My WDW vacation is creeping closer and closer. :cool1: Now, I'm on the hunt for a digital camera that will also take good video. Suggestions welcomed...would be great to keep the costs below $300 ($200 is even better!).

Thanks!

I have the Canon SD 1100 Digital Elph and I love it,,this is my second Canon Elph cameras and they take great pictures, takes good video, and are very small. I think it was somewhere in the $200-300 range. You can't go wrong with a Canon IMO.

I bought a cute little red Canon Digital ELPH SD780 for $200 off Amazon after trying one out in a store to make sure it fit my hand. Right after that several stores in town had it for that price. I think it's took small for my husband LOL but I wanted something small that I could keep in my handbag and use on vacation. I haven't tried the video yet but I liked the blizzard photos I got this winter. I read Consumer Reports for advice in choosing the camera.

My (grown) children own Canons as well.

I'm also in the middle of researching a new digital camera in the same price range. I want a Canon (have a Sony right now that just became unbearable about 3 months ago for no good reason).

I'm looking at the Canon SD780 IS and SD940 IS. I'm leaning towards the 940 because it has a wider lense. I know the 940 takes video, HD I believe. Not 100% sure because video is not something I care about (we have a Flip HD that is just amazing).

I would suggest googling "top point and shoot cameras" or something like that and reading the top lists from PC World, CNet, etc. and checking Amazon for the bestsellers. The new Samsung dual screens get great reviews and take video, but battery life is an issue (so I've read). Good luck!

Good to know that Canons are a safe bet. HSN (which I :lovestruc) has the Canon PowerShot SD960 Digital ELPH 12MP 4X Optical Zoom Camera for $339, that they will split into two payments of roughly $169 (I love FlexPay!).

I went to Disney in February and wanted a new point and shoot for the trip because I didn't want to drag my SLR around Disney. I did alot of research and decided on the Panasonic Lumix TZ7 and I love it! It has HD video, 12x optical zoom (which is great!). I got it for around $380 Canadian. There are 2 other models, the TZ1 and 3 that are less expensive.

go to http://dpreview.com - among tons of information/reviews, you can do an extensive feature search/comparison and find what you need. just be aware they list items by MSRP, not necessarily street price.

Wallmart has the Canon Powershot 1200-IS for $149 with a 4GB memory card. Its a great camera for that price.

Is HSN throwing in anything additional, like a memory card or case? I found the same camera on walmart.com for $227.54.

Ya know...after I typed my post, I did a general search for that camera and saw Amazon had it cheaper, too. Hmmmmmmm......Looks like I'll be going with another retailer. I love the flexibility of FlexPay, but not enough to pay over $100 more for the same item! (no, they're not including anything extra)

Thanks, all. Canon it is! :hippie:

You can also check out this website:

http://www.woot.com

Its a deal a day website so they only offer 1 item for sale a day, once that item is sold out its sold out. They will not post more then the one item a day (unless its a wootoff). The items they sell are usually 30%-50% off of retail (sometimes more sometimes less).

They post cameras often, but you never know what they will post from one day to the next. The good deals can sell out early so I check the the site once in the morning. Woot was selling the camera I posted above (Canon Powershot $150) for I think $80 a few weeks ago. Well worth a look IMO.

Another vote for the Canon PowerShot SD780. Love, love, LOVE it. Actually I feel like I had to start learning photography because my camera is better than I am! I had to up my game.

The video still looks like it's shot on a camera, though, not a video camera. Not sure how good you want it to be.

Ironically enough there is a digital camera on Woot today. It is a Pentax Optio P80 for $90. It records at HD 720 and has automatic face detection. The same camera is on Amazon for $130 and gets decent reviews:

Check out http://www.measy.com/ It's a site that helps you chose electronic gadgets such as digital cameras by asking you a series of questions. Based on your answers, it will suggest 1-5 cameras that best fit your needs. It's a decent place to start. Once it gives you an answer, I'd head over to dpreview.com for a more in depth review and then shop around for the best price.

That is a great site. I just took the cell phone survey and it suggested a Motorola Droid, which is what I currently use (and very happy with).
