Hey guys,

I am new to Nikon (just bought a d3000) and new to the photo board.

I am wanting to get a longer lens. mine came with a 18mm-55mm that just doesn't get out there far enough. Because of money, I have been looking at Nikon 55-200mm VR lens, but have run across a Sigma 55-200 on craigslist for considerably less.

My question is for those of you with experience with both the nikon and sigma lenses. Would the sigma be a good substitute, even if it does not have a VR feature? Price wise, it is much cheaper... I just don't want to get something I won't be happy with. The 18-55 lens that came with the camera takes great pics, I just need some distance.

Help!!!:confused3

I'm not a Nikon shooter (Pentax), but here is a review of the lens from slrgear.com.

I'm assuming this is the older non HSM version. I'll leave any other evaluations to the Nikon shooters. I personally own three Sigma lenses and have had good luck with them.

If it is an older lens then it might not have an internal auto focus motor leaving you to manually focus.
