It's bluebonnet time in Texas!! DD17 (she'll be 18 on Sunday!) and DD14:

This will be the last year that I'll be able to do the bluebonnet pictures of them together. DDnearly18 leaves for college in September. In New York. :sad1:

Anyone else have bluebonnet pictures??

That time of year when we all pull over on teh side of the freeway to take pictures. After all, what's a Texas tradition without a game of chicken on the interstate.

I haven't been able to get out yet this year and DH mowed most of my bluebonnets in the yard before they bloomed.

Nice shots, by the way.

ACK!!! I'm afraid that might be grounds for divorce. Just sayin'.

I found a great spot that is on the opposite side of the access road, away from the highway. I'm not keen on being right on the road, either.

I cut him some slack when mowing bluebonnets or weed eating pecan tree saplings because he's from Georgia.

Bluebonnet time! I've got some, I've got some! These snaps of the family were from a 'Bluebonnet-ized' hillside on the north side of Hwy 290, just a bit outside Houston, on the way to Brenham. Huge sweeping hillside just absolutely covered in wildflowers every spring.

Oh - these were taken 17 years ago, I scanned the negatives with an Epson 350 last year. Probably taken with a compact Canon 35mm (that's all I ever bought in those days - after my FTb died).

AWWW! I guess your precious boys are all grown up now. Kind of bittersweet, isn't it? I have taken bluebonnet pictures nearly every year since my older daughter's 1st birthday. She goes to college in the fall in NY, so I won't be able to do my two girls together anymore. :sad1:

Great pictures!!

Which highway is this patch of bluebonnets near? I haven't seen many good places except in I-30 in downtown FW.

OP--your shots are great. The colors really pop. Here is my attempt from this year. We went out in the middle of the day, and the sun is pretty harsh. I'd like to try again in the evening, but I have to mail my camera back to amazon this week. :sad1:

Close - still got one 'at home' (at college - closer than New York :-).

We still go to Disney together though - from last December - the two of them doing what they do best...

At I-30 between Montgomery and Hulen? I saw people there yesterday taking pictures. Crazy! One of my friends said south of town off 377 there were some good fields but I haven't checked it our myself.

Thanks. Those areas off of Hulen and Montomery are difficult to get to sometimes. I'll try 377.

I think there is a patch on I-30 near Bryant Irvin that is really abundant and pretty too.

AWWW!!! so cute!! Both of your children are beautiful, and the picture of your daughter by herself is absolutely precious.

My little patch of bluebonnets is north of Ft Worth, up near Alliance Airport.

Thanks--I wish I could take credit for those precious children, but they are my niece and nephew. I love them to death though--I'm not sure I could love them more even if they were my own.

I love spring time in Texas--except for the allergies!

We just finished the cherry blossom season here in the Washington, DC metro area but you can't pose little ones or big ones for that matter in the same way among the blossoms. But at least our trees are just about everywhere!

Your photos are so beautiful, even the ones in the bright sun! How long does the season last?

Thank you! I've heard about the Wash DC cherry blossoms all my life, but I haven't gotten to see them in person. Some day I will!

From start to finish the bluebonnets last maybe 6 weeks or so, but they are at their peak in our area right now.

For great bluebonnets in the DFW area head down 287 toward Ennis.

If I remember correctly from my days in DFW, there was a really good spot at 20 and Mountain Creek Pkwy. You could park in the Target lot and get to them with out having to stop on the highway.

Target is actually at Carrier and 20 (I live an exit up the road). There are usually some really good spots where 20 and spur 408 meet (the big hill), but they're really trampled down already. As is the case all along 20 in Grand Prairie.

I get my best shots this time of year. especially between Brenham and Giddings, around 6:30p to 7:00p with very cool sunsets starting at 8:15pm

These are great! We don't have these in abundance in my area, but I am going to Houston in 2 weeks. We will have 4 days in which we are doing the City Pass then going for an afternoon to the beach, then getting on the Carnival Magic.

So my questions are: Any chance I might run into some of these? Anyone know of good areas there? I see a couple of bees in the photos, are they thick in the plants? We have clover here that the bumble bees love so we avoid it (I am allergic).

I love Bluebonnet season as much as I love Christmas and the 4th of July!!! I've had to drive my inlawss to Andrews, TX (West Texas) the last 2 weekends from the DFW area. There were so many places along I20 that had bluebonnets. I love to take my DSs pictures in them, but am so paranoid of rattlesnakes.

:thumbsup2. There are bluebonnets up by where we live in Spring and there also some near Memorial Park in Houston.
FWIW - that was the same bee in both pictures. And he was the only one around.
