My son started a new soccer season yesterday. We were expecting nice weather, but we got rain instead. It wasn't bad enough to cancel the game, but it was annoying.

Here are a few shots. They were all taken with a Canon 5DM2 and a Canon 300mm f/2.8.

The gallery is here (http://photos.barbierifamily.org/Sports/FFPS-Soccer/2010-04-11-Rapids/11797536_ZQgCa#833404528_LMPcz) if you want to see the others. I was really impressed with how the 5D kept up with AF using the 300. It didn't perform nearly as well last year with the 70-200. It was OK, but my keeper rate was significantly lower. I brought along a 7D as well, but when you combined it with the 300, it was just too long for the short field. It would have helped if I had gone to one end and shot from a corner. Instead, I camped in my chair near midfield. My chair has a sun cover which worked well as a rain cover and I wasn't dressed for standing out in the rain on a cold, wet morning.

OK, the photos are nice and all, but I'm most impressed with this "do". How on earth did he manage to keep that in the rain?

Beats me. That one doesn't belong to me.

These are nice- I like that you can see the rain falling in them. I looked at these at work earlier but that didn't show up on my crummy office monitor.

Beautiful photos! Nice and sharp. It must have been a joy to use that lens. :)
