Is this a good camera to learn with? I found one for about $300. The DSLR systems are just so expensive. I know it's older and there are newer Olympus's but, I was thinking for the money this would be the way to go. Especially since I have no idea what I am doing yet :lmao:.

The E-420 is a good entry level DSLR especially if you are on a limited budget. The only drawback is the lack of in body image stabilization on that model, but it shouldn't be a deal buster. $300 is a good price for that model. Just make sure it isn't for the camera body only and includes the kit lens.

Is it worth to try to purchase the E-520 instead? Is there enough difference in the two to justify the price difference?

Yes the $300 includes one lense.

The difference between the e-420 and the E-520 (which I use) wouldn't be worth the $200 or so extra it would cost you.

Actually I am looking at used ones and the price would only be about $50. I am trying to decide now if I should make the leap to one of these two or go with something like the Panasonic Lumix FZ35. Ugh decisions decision.

I don't know anything about the Panasonic but the extra $50 would be worth the jump from the 420 to 520. I'd say the image stabilization alone is worth the $50.

If you have a Sams Wholesale Club in your area check to see if they have them in stock. They are being discontinued at my local store for $399. This is with 2 lenses, 14-42, & 40-150. This is for the 520 model.

Thanks everyone for the help. I decided to go with a Fuji Finepix s1500 for the now. I wasn't sure I was ready for DSLR. There are so many choices. I decided to wait and really do some research before investing in one. Maybe for Christmas or my birthday next year. Then price won't be such a big factor. I could have gotten the camer but, that would have been it.
