View Full Version : ARE YOU GOING TO TAKE THE DAY OFF THIS 9/11? (inspired by PamOKW's NYC post)

I have been thinking about taking a vacation day on 9/11 & staying home to watch the ceremonies on tv & remember the victims.
Pam's post lists some of the ceremonies going on that day & I feel now more than ever that I want to stay home & watch it.
Has anyone else been planning to do this? I mean, don't get me wrong, if you're not I don't think its a bad thing, but I was just wondering if I was the only one. Any thoughts?

I will be at WDW that day. We will be at MK watching the flag retreat. Saw it last year on 9/16, and was very moved. If I was home, I'd probably go to work though.

I'm a full-time SAHM so I will be home. This is the first that I have heard of the ceremonies, so I will look forward to watching them.

Sadly, my ds will be turning 4 that day, but we will most likely celebrate over the weekend.

I'll be teaching but can perhaps incorporate some of the ceremonies into my lessons. I'll have to check with the boss to get her approval.

I am also a SAHM so I will watch on tv. Its also my 32nd birthday, when I am required for some reason to give out my birthdate people always so "ohh , we feel bad for you". But I can still celebrate my birthday because I am alive!! So I tell everyone, save your sympathy for the families that really need it.

Don't plan to take it off from work, but I will probably take a few moments between 8:30 - 9:00 a.m. to remember all the victims of 9/11. I am hoping our office will plan some sort of activity -- even a brief one in the morning -- just to pause and remember.

Under "normal" circumstances we would be in WDW and would certainly take the time to observe and honor those involved in 9/11. But as we have no vacation this year, I will be working. Usually our company has a weekly meeting on Thursdays, but I am going to request that we have a Wednesday meeting and hopefully we can do something special there. One of my co-workers is a volunteer firefighter and though not a Ground Zero his company helped cover for those who were there and he helped those as they returned from working at Ground Zero. I really think it's important to reflect on the day in some way.

No, if I am scheduled to work, that is where I will be. If I am home, I probably won't have the TV on anyway. We will fly the flag and take time to remember, but not dwell on it.

No. I may have the day off as my schedule for Sept isn't out yet, but if I am off I won't be watching TV. I can remember the victims and what happened without all that.

As a member of the local Symphony Orchestra chorus, I will be participating in a tribute on 09/11. We will be performing Mozart's Requiem, beginning at the time the first plane struck the World Trade Center. Orchestras across the nation will be performing the Requiem at the same time. I'm pleased at the opportunity to be in this tribute, but I think it's going to be a difficult performance.
The performance here is open to the public and free. If you live in a city with an orchestra, you might check to see if they're participating in the Requiem tribute.

Ill be at school that day also, but should teachers let the students watch the ceremonies? When it happened last year the principal wouldnt let us watch it because it was to distracting from schoolwork.
