So it is time for another Resort swap!

There are MANY group possibilities listed. I do not expect all of them to fill. So when signing up, keep in mind alternatives you would like to do, in case your group is canceled. If a regular element group has 2 people in it, and both are willing to continue, I will keep it. For letter groups, I may change from 2 letters pp to 3 pp to fill a group. So be prepared.

Groups will be listed in post #2, this post is for the instructions.

Dates:
1st Check-in: May 14st
2nd Check-in: June 7th
Mail Date: July 5th

DUE July 9th This is a FIRM date. I will not be waiting for packages that I have not received a DC number that they are in the mail on July 9th.

Altered Letters:

Because of the lengths of the Resort Names, most groups will be 2 letters per person. Some longer names will be 3 per person, and there are a few groups that will be one letter each. If there is an odd length group, someone will make one letter and one similarly sized embellished shape/Cricut icon, etc.
Letters should be matted and embellished at least once. This can mean that the letter is mounted on an icon, and the icon is shadowed or layered, and the letter is one layer. Or it could mean that the letter is shadowed and either embellished or pl aced on a single layer. We are going for 3 layers of paper (more is fine). Feel free to use cardstock or patterned paper.

Letters: max of 2" (meaning the size you select on the Cricut dial is 2", with a shadow, it will be taller, that's fine. SCAL users, may find they have to set it larger than 2" to have a letter that is in the 2" range. Use your best judgment.)

Height: If you wanted to put your letter on another shape, I think we have room to extend the height some. If you have a 2" letter and want to mount it on a 2.5" shape, that should be fine. Also, if you want to have a 2" shape, and only a 1.5" letter, that should work too. Use your best judgment, thinking about how your letter might look with everyone else’s.

Width: The tough one, because the fewer letters are in a word, the wider we can go. Take the word Contemporary. That is 12 letters, in order to fit across a two-page layout, the letters need to be smaller than 2” (24”/12 letters minus a little so there can be a gap between letters when they are laid out). But with Grand Floridian, you could theoretically put “Grand” at the top of a layout, and Floridian at the bottom, so you can go wider with your letters. Be mindful of how the word will fit on a page. Basically, this means that not everyone can use a wide font like the Mickey font, with a large word.

Colors: Unlike the regular element groups, I will not pre-select colors. You might be inspired by something at a resort that does not “fit” into the color scheme. I think it’s better for the letters to showcase the “character” of the resort, than to match into a specific color palette. Feel free, to use the colors listed for the regular element groups as inspiration or a starting point.

Regular Element Groups:

This is a single element swap. Please, choose an element when you sign up. Group numbers will vary with the number of participants, so wait until the swap is closed before you get too far in the “manufacturing” process. I have started with 6 people per group, but some may grow to 8 people, or shrink. As long as there are 2 people in a group, and they want to do it, we will keep the group. I may combine Epcot resorts or Monorail Resorts into one group.

Colors: Bazzill colors are listed by the names of each resort. You do not have to use Bazzill, but for those of us that do, it would be nice if they all matched. If you are using something other than Bazzill, stick to the same color palette. You may also use matching patterned paper. I did not list a specific color for black, white, metallic silver & gold. Use whatever texture you have on hand.

Element list – Standard list and standard rules apply. I’ve listed the most common, but if there is something else you want to make, just ask.

• Title: Double matted and embellished. Standard 2x8 (other sizes okay too), welded, shadowed letters, paper pieced, letters on shapes, etc. Since we are also doing altered letters to spell out the resort name, if there is a full letter group, and most of the participants are the same, consider choosing another element. Or make a title with something other than the resort name.
• Pair of borders: Double matted and embellished ~2” in width
• Paper Piecing (not a layered die cut): Handmade or Cricut. These are like the licensed characters on Cricut, with many pieces.
• Library Pocket w/ Tag: Tag should be double matted, with eyelet or ribbon/fiber. Embellished.
• Shaker Box: Embellished, be creative
• License Plate: Double matted, embellished
• Layered Die cuts: Three 3” shapes, with shadow. These are like the ZooBalloo or Animal Kingdom animals.
• Lyric/Quote: 3 paper layers, embellished. Minimum 3x4.
• Matchbook: Include paper inside for journaling. Embellished, be creative.

Mix & Match elements (select 2 from this list = 1 element):
• Photo Mat: Double matted, embellished. Sized to fit a 4x6 photo, so 4.25x6.25 for top layer.
• Frame: Sizzix dies okay, otherwise same rules as for photo mat
• Journal Box: 3 paper layers, embellished, 3x3 space for writing
• Tag: 2 x 3 double matted, embellished. Tag or ribbon/fiber in hole
• TWO Embellished Shapes: double matted, embellished can me squares, circles, flowers, diamonds, etc.
• Slide Mount: Embellished, be creative.
• File Folder: Embellished, be creative.

Embellishment Suggestions: Die cuts, stickers, stickles, flock, ink, chalk, brads, charms, flowers, eyelets, ribbon/fiber, sewing, tearing, embossing, stamping, clipart, additional layers of paper beyond double mats (if it would look weird trying to fit in another embellishment, specialty paper (such as embossed, glitter, Bling).

Packaging:
Place your elements or letters in a bag large enough to completely hold them and be closed. If you have a long piece, saran wrap is a great alternative. Label with your name, DISname and Group.

Element groups: Place all your bags, in a GALLON sized bag (or larger if needed). Label with your name, DISname and Group.

Altered Letter Groups: You may put these in a smaller bag. Label with your name, DISname and Group.

Mailing & Postage: You may ship to me by any method, but if you mail July 6th OR LATER , you must send with Delivery Confirmation and send the number to me. I prefer to send back to you with flat rate postage. The rates are: Envelope or Small Box (9”x6”x2”) - $4.95, Medium/Standard box – $10.70, Large - $14.50. Delivery Confirmation is an additional $.70, please include a DC slip if you want DC. Do not send Clik-it-ship it postage. Cash, check, stamps are fine.

If at any time, you realize that you will not be able to complete some or all of your groups by the due date, please let me know so that I can find angels. I will not be able to wait for late packages this time.

Doing letters is a relatively new thing for us, so there aren't too many examples. We just did them for the first time in the MK swap, and I am doing them in the still active DL swap. Basically the letters are 2", matted and then either put on some other shape, or embellished in a normal way (adding a brad, button, sticker, die cut, stickled, etc.)

Hmmmm...sounds like a good one so far! I love the idea of doing the resort name as a letter group. How will you do the groups for regular elemnets? Will you group a few resorts together and let people pick which they want or sort them out by individual resorts? I am thinking that some people will not need all the resorts that may be in a particular group?? I guess I'm sort of thinking out loud, but just wondering! We've stayed at several of the resorts so I have pix of those plus ones that we just visited or ate at!!

In the past, the element groups have been one group for each resort. So you would have a WL group and someone would make a topper, someone else photo mats, someone else tags, etc. The groups would vary in size from 3-10 people.

I did think, that if this turned out to be a small swap, we could group some resorts. For example, a Monorail Resort group and people could choose to make something for the GF, Polynesian or Contemporary. Or Epcot resorts with the Yacht, Beach and Boardwalk. Also, the two sides of Port Orleans or the 3 parts of the All Stars. But I don't think we could do much more combining than that, because as you said, not everybody would have use for every resort. Especially, the resorts that are off by themselves like the Caribbean Beach or Coronado Springs.

Yep, everyone is welcome. A lot of hostesses prefer that newbies stick to 2 groups to start. Since these are single elements and not the double elements of other swaps, I have no problem increasing that to 4-5. Just be mindful, of your ability to get these projects done in a timely matter and don't sign up for more than you can handle. :goodvibes

Thanks for clearing that all up for me!! LOL I figured that was how it would work, but if it wasn't I wasn't sure about the groups...being all jumbled. Combining the monorail resorts wouldn't be horrible...I think most people have been at least to meals at most!!! But, each of them seperate are good too!! Can't wait!

I think the letter groups sound fun but would like other elements as well- would you want to do a title and letter group foir each resort? I would rather have elements than letters if you are only doing 1 group for each resort.

Could each resort have a letter group and then another group for other elements? Or even if the resort name isn't too long and there is enough interest in the particular resort, a larger group with some working on letters for everyone and others doing elements for everyone? It may be a little more work, but each would get that much more in return!!!

Yes, I would have both a letter group and element group for each resort as long as there are people to fill them.

Maybe people should list what resorts they are interested in, so we can have an idea on which groups will have enough interest to fill. Especially, people interested in letter groups.

I can do anything, I've been to them all, and will be to them all again!

LOL I wish I could say that I've been to all of them!!! I have stayed at POP, Port Orleans Riverside, Contemporary, Animal Kingdom Lodge and Bay Lake Tower (coming up next). So, I would be happy doing any of those!! Also, I have lots of Poly, Beach Club and Grand Floridian pix that I could use embellishments for!!

I'm in! Love the idea of altered letters for the resorts. I think if we did the 2 inch letters like we did in the Disneyland swap, they would look nice for the resorts. The resorts I'm interested in are: AllStars (all), Pop, Caribbean Beach, Polynesian, Grand Floridian, and Contemporary.

I would be interested in BLT- both elements and letters (if the elements are combined with Contemporary I would be do that as well).

I would do letters for: OKW, SSR, AKV(L), Dolphin/Swan.

I would do elements for: Old Key West, Dolphin/Swan.

I would think about any of the other DVC/Deluxe resorts. I have enough stuff for the moderate and value resorts.

A few things, I want to point out:

There are like 40 groups listed. I don't expect all of them to fill, especially on the letter size. If an element group has 2 people in it, and both want to continue, I will keep the group. If a lettered group doesn't have enough people to fill, I will see if bumping everyone to making 3 letters will be enough to complete it, otherwise we will have to drop it.

I have selected colors for use in the element groups. I started with last year's list, but modified it to remove retired colors, and to change some textures. I've tried to pick colors that are either Grass Cloth (because they are sold at Michaels) or Criss-Cross (sold at Archivers and I think lots of LSS) because they should be easy for everyone to find or order online. There are a couple colors in other textures because I couldn't find a good replacement. I've also made some color additions and subtractions. I looked over a bunch of resort pics today, so I hope everything I changed still makes sense!

Black, White, Metallic Gold, Metallic Silver I did not choose a specific color. Use whatever texture you have on hand.

See the note, accompanying the "title" on the element list.

Okay- I have a long list of groups I want to be in- I need to look at what is happening and decide if I think I can do them all and which ones are most important of them.

Just to be clear.

Is it ok for me to make my 2 elements photomats or do I need to make 4 (2 mats per element)?

Is the top layer the one that the photo goes onto?

Since this is a single element group, make 2 mats.

The photo will go on top of 2 layers of paper (or more layers, if you make a fancier mat)

Here is an example from the DL swap. One is 3 layers, and the other is only 2. The smallest layer is 4.25 x 6.25, so when you put a 4x6 photo on top, there is a nice border.

FYI, guys...for some reason I am having difficulties connecting to the DIS. I had to use a proxy server, and it's very, very slow. So I'm not going to be able to update the signups until I figure out why Comcast and the DIS don't want to talk to each other. Hopefully that won't take too long, but I wanted you guys to know.

Traci, your monorail idea sounds very cute, but a word of caution from what I learned something when laying out the DL letters... On these long words, it can be hard to get them all to fit. Contemporary has 12 letters, which means if your letters really can't be wider than 2", unless we can get room by "borrowing" space from other letters. So if you think your letters are going to be on the wide side, let everyone know, and then maybe other people can make some "skinny" letters.

Sigh-I promised myself I wouldn't play as I still have my Resort swap stuff from I think 2 years ago still in the mailing envelope but its early and I'm delusional :)

I'll take the following (and if I guessed wrong on the letters let me know and I'll switch)
Contemporary (N/R) (though with that color scheme most of my convention center pics won't match but I'll make due- since I know no-one else will have that problem :) are the colors okay? I haven't spent too much time in there since the renovation, and I was trying to look at the pics on the WDW website. I was trying to decide if it was an olivey green color in the lobby, or more of a charcoal. If the colors need to change, PLMK

Polynesian (Y/N) Mycutiepatooties got the last Polynesian spot. I've opened a second group, and put you in there. But if we can't fill the second group, I could give you one of my letters and then we could make a little extra something (or we could just do the one, if the rest of the group doesn't mind us "slacking")

Wilderness Lodge (D/L/E) (? is it 2 letters or 3) 3, I just got so used to picking 2 letters for people, that's what I was doing, forgot it was 3

Space shouldn't be a problem here... Wilderness might go across the top of a page, and Lodge on the bottom. So we've got 24" to get 10 letters, including a shape so that is 2.4" each. And there is plenty of room for a shape on the bottom. But I realized, I forgot the S...so there are three letters for the last spot. :goodvibes So that's 9 letters/24" = plenty of room.

A note for the Wilderness Lodge letter group, if 3 more people want to join, I can drop everyone down to 2 letters pp, and one person will make a letter + icon.

EDIT: DUH, there are 10 letters in Wilderness, I can't count today. I think it should still be plenty of room. I, E, L's lend themselves to being skinny.

I don't mind making skinny letters. :goodvibes The problem "fonts" tend to be the Mickey Font, Tear Drop. George & Plantin might be a problem too, especially for an "M" Why don't you prototype them out, as you imagine them and we can see how much space we have to save.

If those people with, CDS or SCAL can play "How big would this word be, if everyone used this font," on a 24" mat and not make both their letters out of a wide font, I think we should be okay.

No issues Hope- I'm really not picky since I don't "need" anything and the only resorts I've stayed in I have very few pictures (and ironically not in any of those groups)

As for the Contemp colors it would depend where pictures are taken. The hotels colors have shifted more towards the peach/teal/brown/gray/beige side but its more noticeable in the lobbies. 4th floor is still the darker tones due to the mural/Chef Mickey's/Fantasia shops. Guest rooms/BLT is a mix of the 2. Some brighter tones but some more darker. It's definitely not a hotel that has a stable color pallet. If I had to pick I'd say cream/black/silver/brown but thats not fun to scrap :)

As for skinny letters- I'll play as long as the 'rail color isn't red (kidding) oh and I call 5 legged Goat for one of my letters :)

It's weird, some years there is lots of activity on a particular resort, and then the next year, not so much. Just a different group of people I guess.

We stayed at BC in 2000. LOVED the pool, and loved how easy it was to get to Epcot. I'd stay there again, but with my parents down there now, if we ever actually stay on property again, DH only wants to stay at AKL.

I think for simplicity sake, still 2". It's a good size for the page, without taking up too much picture space. But we have the freedom to do larger embellishing, like say the "E" make with Lumpy on the side for the Jungle Cruise group in the DL swap.

I've switched this over to a Progress thread, but it's not completely closed yet. If anyone wants elements before say 6PM EDT, speak up now. I'm going to work to pull together the players & groups.

French Quarter is a nice resort to visit, if you have the time. We go over there a bunch for beignets. If you have a car, it's easy to visit. If you don't, there is a lesser known boat route from Downtown Disney to the two parts of Port Orelans. You catch the boat by Capt Jacks/Rainforest Cafe area, and it's about a 15 min ride.

Wow you all are way ahead of me. I am going to start gathering supplies and start these this week. I leave for Europe on May 15th and won't return until June 5th so I have to get thing together for that too. I am matching the colors to Bazzil but am using Coredimentions for cutting on the Cricut. Is that Ok? Bazzil is so hard to cut on the Cricut.

One girl at the swap at our LSS last night had the cuteset embossed Coredimentions but wouldn't tell me where she got it?:confused3 If I can find some or if the LSS orders in I plan to use that too for some groups. We have 2 LSS, a Joanns, Micheals, Hobby Lobby and AC Moore so I am sure I can find it but it would have been easier for her to tell me so I don't have to drive all over town.

I am finally off to shop for this swap.

Our scrapbook room at my mom's flooded and they think its going to be a huge deal to fix it. Luckily only a few things were damaged. My mom happened to wake up at 2am when it was raining and walked into the room where she heard the water. If she had not of woken up we would of lost tons more.

And yes, I am lucky. These first two weeks are supposed to be really slow, but then it picks up.

Today, 10 minutes before the whale watch left, a tour-busload of French tourists get off their bus and run over to the ticket office, all paying separately for their tickets - I'm pretty sure they made it though. haha.

I finally got around to taking pictures of my 3 groups. My W group (BLT) I had one heck of time trying to figure out what to do. Propabley, because I have never even seen it finished, but since we will be staying next door for 2 days I figured I would be taking some pictures and could use this item for those. I got the inspiration for this one from the artwork that is picture inside of the room. I really like that picture:

I posted on the AK thread, that that swap came so easily to me, but I am having a hard time being really inspired for this swap. I have a few groups sort of planned, but no cutting. I think my problem is even though I've pulled paper, I'm not excited about it, or have too many choices. I need to just make a decision and start working on these.

I understand where you are coming from. That BLT group really stumped me. I am still not sure about it. Maybe that is why I have not mailed out. The contemp letters the "e" was easy, but it took me a while for the "P" and I kinda of just started going with the idea in my head, but that is not excactly what I had in my head,but has I went along it came to me. My FQ one I knew what I was looking for on that one. The hard part on that group was finding the supplies. I had to order from 2 seperate places for the paper and the embellishments. There was just no Mardi Gras/New Orleans stuff around my area.

BTW your AK letters are awesome:thumbsup2 I need to get started on mine. Ideas in the head, but nothing drawn out yet.

I like your BLT letter. I've never been there either, so I don't know if it fits or not. I just know when I look at it, it looks like and abstract Mickey face and that seems to fit. Eyes, and a black swirl for the mouth.

You did a fantastic job on the BLT group (well all of them are wonderful but that one is really good for the resort). I am looking at using more stripes/circles/ribbons typoe thing- there aren't really objects I can think of that fit for BLT- more it about color/texture.

Thanks everyone the :thumbsup2. For the BLT I found a picture someone took of that pictures and resized it to make the square and then I resized again to cut out the "T". I did just find some cool paper that I might just used instead. I just ordered it so it will be a while before it gets here. It has the geometric shape. Who knows I may keep it or change it or just send both.

ETA: I tried to draw it with dashes, but it didn't work that well. If you can't picture it, I'll post my sketch of it.

Those would look great. Some of my "E"'s have a necklace around them and two have the mask with the feather and one has a lamp post and the other has a saxophone.

I sent my 3 groups out today by priority mail.

PSA - I used the box that was one smaller than the flat rate medium. It only cost me $8.60 to send the package. That was cheaper than the flat rate medium which is $10.70. It might save you some money if you use the smaller priority box.

Colleen, your package arrived today! Thanks for the Ariel towel. My Grandma used to love to buy those, and give them as stocking stuffers. She passed away 11 years ago, and the last ones I have from her are on their last legs, and I went to a craft show last fall looking for replacements with no luck. Now I have a replacement. And I have a Disney kitchen, so it will fit right in.

I'm not sure my original idea I had of hand drawing the serpent water slide and paper piecing it all back together is do-able with us just getting a puppy. Any ideas are welcome. For the alt. letter group "Contemporary" remember how I took the first and last letter so I could do the ends with a monorail? Well I did my mock up last night and today. I know width is the concern here because we have so many letters to fit across the page. Would it be too wide if my monorail under the C and Y letters are 3 inches wide each? We discussed maybe asking others to make skinny letters...not sure how you and other ladies still feel about it.

If i am okay to proceed: Also is anyone oppossed to the monorail stripe being red? I don't think that the red one was retired b/c of fatal crashes but I wanted to be sure.

Red is good for me! It was purple that was retired. Do you have a picture you can post of your mock-up? I am wondering if it would work for the monorail portion of your letters to overlap parts of the neighboring letters or not?

Okay, we have ~23" of space (leaving an 1" for spacing between letters), you need 6" leaving 17" for 10 letters. Or approximately 1.7" per letter. I think that should be enough. I just measured my letters, and both together is 3" which is less than the 3.4" I have to work with.

Here are photos of the Contemporary monorail C and Y letters. I was going to cut the monorail shorter to make it 3 inches. If you'd rather, I can leave it longer like in the photo so someone could layer the letters next to the first and last letters on top of the monorail. What do you think? I have not glued down the letters on top of the monorail yet so placement could be shifted slightly although I have them moved over to make the most room. Just noticed the Y is too low...it would be up higher like the C when I glue it down.

:cool1: I am in that group Traci. Those are too cute for words. I think layering is a good option instead of cutting, because I probably will end up doing a two page spread so I am not to worried about the resort title not fitting. That way it could be used for both a one or two. Also depending on how many photos and such on the page I was thinking I might also do Contemporary at the top and Resort at the bottom. Heck who know... I have not even been there yet. Waiting for Sept. Just some ideas from my brain. Anyway they are awesome. Your stuff is always so nice.

The Fs are "inked" with a gold marker around the edge, and the Ts all have a little Mardi Gras beaded "necklace" (it doesn't go all the way around though, so the letter is flat on the page).

They're wood - it's supposed to look weather-worn, like a house on Cape Cod.

I even made my own "sand" for the beach club elements! I mixed MS Carrara Marble Coarse Glitter with Vintage Photo Distress Powder, and got a great sand-like mixture.. I was proud, :laughing:. The starfish are actually from a shower curtain, I believe - we saved the little ring decorators. The mini-slide mount decoration is a MS punch around the page.

I just measured Shawn's letters...actually the P is smaller than the E, because of the wave. But both of them together are right around the 3.4" mark that I calculated out earlier. So we are still looking good for space wise. I know Shawn mentioned 1pg layouts vs 2... in the calculations, this is definitely for a 2pager. You get more than about 7 letters in a word, and it makes it necessary to lay them out over 2 pages.

So you think I should just keep the letters and monorails seperate and throw them all together in the baggie?

You don't have to stay at a WDW Resort...Just have to visit them. We tend to visit during the hot part of the day. If we are at AK we will take the bus to AKL or Coronado, if we are at the MK we will go to WL or a monorail resort. If we are at Epcot we might go to Caribbean Beach or one of the ones around the lagoon. Of course, I collect pressed pennies so there is usually a purpose to the trip. But we will get lunch sometimes too. Different variety than park food. The quick service place has Boma's Zebra Domes in the refrigerator case, so that is always a must visit hotel.

Everything that you have done looks so great! I am so glad I get several of them!

I have all of my supplies and sketches. This weekend I will be done with the AK swap and be started on this one early next week. I know the check in is Monday, but my little guys birthday is Monday and this weekend we are having a party for all three kids' birthdays (All three are within two weeks of each other.) So, I don't think I will be on here much. Can I count this as my check-in or do you wnat me to get back to you by Monday?

I did finish my groups and will get them packaged up and in the mail today. I was hoping to get these done and mailed before our trip to Montana and I did it!!!:woohoo:

I totally missed your letters posted Hope! Those are awesome:goodvibes. I get some of those. I love your contemporary letters. I wished I would have thought of that mickey behind the "T". That resort and BLT were hard ones.

DIT- Love your little pyramind that goes with the letters. Is that from a cricut cart? The catcus with the "I" to cute. I never have stayed there before, but from the pictures I have seen you really captured the hotel.
