**DINING REPORT NOW COMPLETED**

**Please note - links for each review can be found in post #2**

Hello everyone

So I decided to take the plunge and share with you my dining reviews from our March 2010 trip to the World

Please note - links for each review can be found in post #2

Whilst researching for this trip, I stumbled across the DIS Boards and soon I was completely hooked :surfweb:

The wonderful Dining Reviews really helped me to plan and were so enjoyable to read :worship: I thought it was only fair to try and repay by posting my own reports

Be gentle with me I am a total newbie and have lots of very hard acts to follow :flower3:

So who are we?

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_1634-2-1.jpg

Me: Linda, 42 and a plan-a-holic :wave2:

DH: Philip, 43 and more than happy to let me do all the planning, throw a few socks in a case the day before our vacation, then sit on the plane and say ‘where are we going again?’ :rotfl:

Food wise, DH is a true carnivore and loves nothing more that chowing down on steak, ribs and the like. He thinks that vegetables take up valuable meat space on the plate :rotfl2:

DH doesn’t like the taste of alcohol and would always prefer to have a Coke or a nice cup of tea  (so English !!)
I on the other hand don’t eat meat but love all fish and seafood. I will often order the vegetarian options if they sound interesting. As for the demon drink ………… ooh yes please :rotfl:

So with this in mind you are sure to see a variety of dishes and drinks

When we last went the WDW we had one ADR :scared1: It was at Teppan Edo and we loved it. We generally prefer to eat whatever and whenever we feel like but for this trip there were so many places that I wanted to try ADRs seemed sensible.

I chose each one for a specific reason, here’s the full line up

Tokyo Dining ………. We both love sushi and Japan is our favourite pavilion in Epcot. We timed our ADR for just before Illuminations in the hope that we could bag a table window as we thought it would be an interesting new perspective on a show that we have seen many times before

Boma ………….. We wanted to choose one buffet meal and the menus looked really good to me. I wasn’t entirely sure if DH would enjoy this one as much as me so maybe this ADR was a little bit selfish !! We both really wanted to check out the AK lodge as we thought we might stay here next year

Mama Melrose’s Fantasmic! Dinner Package …………. Out of the three options for this package we preferred the menu here. I was worried about how busy the show would be so we thought this would help us get a spot in the theatre

Donald’s Safari Breakfast – Tusker House ………….. I really wanted to try a character meal and this one looked the most appealing. I was a little worried that two adults without children might not really enjoy this but hey, you never know unless you try :confused3

Kona Café ………… Two reasons for this one, really wanted to check out the Poly and we wanted to catch Wishes from the beach

California Grill …………… The reviews on the DIS are great and the menu looked wonderful. Also thought it would be another interesting perspective of Wishes

As well as the ADRs mentioned above we ate (and drank) at many other WDW locations so I’ll try to be as complete as possible

We stayed off property so we ate at lots of other places, not sure if these would be of any interest :confused3 but I may throw in a couple of the good ones if that is cool with everyone?

Congratulations on reading this far, as a special bonus prize here is a photo of the best looking drink in the world

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0397-1.jpg

Hope you enjoy reading popcorn::

Day One – Off To Epcot

After our flight from England we were pretty tired so we ended up unpacking and eating at a small seafood restaurant near the hotel

The food was OK, nothing special but to be honest we were just trying to stay awake until a reasonable hour. I didn’t take any photos but you aren’t missing anything

We woke early on Saturday morning and were both very excited about our day at Epcot

DH is really not a breakfast person so I would normally just start the day with a coffee from the hotel and a quick snack

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0034-1.jpg

DH stole one of the cookies

The main focus of today was to look around the Flower And Garden Festival Exhibits and then hit world showcase.

We knew that we would be heading back to Epcot again to tour Future World and the main attractions so this was going to be a leisurely start to our vacation

I know this is a food review but I just had to add a couple of pics from the Festival as the park just looked beautiful

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_1391-1.jpg

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_1408-1.jpg

So when did the eating begin I hear you cry !!

Well in my opinion there is only one possible start to a Disney vacation .......

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_1398-1.jpg

What is it about these things !! What do they put in them !!!
We found a nice spot in the sun and enjoyed every single choc-tastic bite :cloud9:

An hour or so later DH started to get hungry just as we were walking past the Electric Umbrella in Future World. It probably wouldn’t have been my first choice but I knew that our ADR at Tokyo Dining would be the main event later that evening

DH ordered a bacon double cheeseburger with fries and a coke

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_1424-1.jpg

He enjoyed it but did comment that it wasn’t very hot and that the bun kept falling apart ………… mmmm where have I heard that comment before :rotfl2:

I went for the Greek Salad and a bottle of water

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_1425-1.jpg

This was very fresh and well prepared but the serving of feta cheese was really small so it did end up feeling a bit like just eating a big bowl of lettuce

So our verdict on the Electric Umbrella

popcorn:: popcorn::popcorn:: out of popcorn::popcorn::popcorn::popcorn::popcorn::……….. It was OK but nothing remarkable. It served to keep us going until our dinner through

Coming up next World Showcase drinks :cool1:

After signing up for a Kim Possible Mission at Innoventions we headed over to World Showcase

We slowly worked our way round the world until we ended up in China for our Mission :cool2: This was really good fun and I would definitely recommend it

It was a very hot day and by the time we made it to Italy it was time for some liquid refreshment

Mmmmm, let me think, Italy ……….. what would be good ??

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_1422-1.jpg

Rosa Regale ‘sweet sparkling red wine’ from the Tutto Italia Kiosk

As we say in England ‘Cheers !!’

This was delicious

popcorn::popcorn::popcorn::popcorn::popcorn:: out of popcorn::popcorn::popcorn::popcorn::popcorn::

DH had a Coke  I wonder about his sanity sometimes

We sat on a bench near the fountain and watched family after family step forward to have their photographs taken. I ended up volunteering to take lots of the photos so that everyone could be in the picture. I think I need to get myself a Photopass uniform !!

So we continued our whistle stop tour of the World, enjoying much of the live entertainment on the way

Oddly we ended up back in Italy with an hour or so to go before our ADR at Tokyo Dining ………………… I wonder why we ended up back here :rolleyes1

The temptation to have another Rosa Regale was strong but I composed myself and decided to try something else ……….. and I’m glad I did :cloud9:

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0043-1.jpg

Bellini ‘peach puree and Prosecco’

DH had a bottle of water

Again we sat and watched the world go by whilst trying to see how many words in Italian we knew (answer …… not many that didn’t involve Pizza)

As the last drips of Bellini were drained from the glass our stomachs started to shout ‘It’s nearly ADR time’ so off we went

Next up …………. Tokyo Dining ……. Sushi with a view :)

During the Winter Olympics, the Today Show (the National tv outlet that carried the Olympics for us here in the U.S.), talked about Wunderbars quite frequently . . . I believe it was a favorite Canadian find for many of them!! :flower3:

So where were we? ……… ahh yes I was sipping a Bellini in Italy and now, without the need for standing in the slowest line in the world at Orlando International Airport Immigration, it was off to Japan !!

This really is one of my favourite spots in World Showcase, I think the gardens look beautiful and the Japanese CMs are so helpful and friendly

There were a couple of reasons for choosing Tokyo Dining for our dinner this evening. Firstly, I love sushi and secondly I was hoping to bag a table near the windows so that we could watch Illuminations from there

When we last visited WDW in 2007 for my 40th Birthday we had lunch at Teppan Edo and really enjoyed it. I proudly wore my birthday pin and everyone made a real fuss of me. I remember the food being really good and whilst it was tempting to head there again we wanted to try somewhere different and the fireworks viewing at TD made it seem even more attractive for a dinner ADR

We checked in about 10 mins before our ADR time and I asked if there was any chance of sitting near the windows. They said that they would see what they could do. There are two dining areas at TD, one of which offers a great view of the sushi bar and is a great way of seeing the sushi chefs at work (a great lunch spot) and the other is at the front of the pavilion and looks out over the lagoon

We wandered around a little outside and right on the time of our ADR our buzzer lit up.

Our server seated us at a really good four top with a superb view of the lagoon so I knew we would get to see the fireworks really clearly. I think if you have never seen Illuminations it’s great to stand outside amongst the crowds and soak up the atmosphere but once you have seem something many times it’s interesting to see it from a different perspective

Anyway, onto the important stuff ……………. ‘what would you like to drink?’

Ooh, how about this …………….

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0058-1.jpg

Now this is where I hang my head in shame, I didn’t note down what was actually in it. I tried to remember to take pictures of everything but I didn’t take a note book out with me  what I can tell you is that it was DELICIOUS. I seem to remember it had white rum and pineapple in it.

I think it has already been established that I enjoy a little drink from time to time but this generally consists of a cold beer on a hot sunny day (that happens about once a year in England !!) and a nice glass of wine or champagne with dinner. One area of adult liquid refreshment I have no knowledge of is cocktails (you tend not to walk into the Queens Head in London and ask for a Mount Fuji !!) But sipping this green glass of loveliness changed all that. From now on I am ordering cocktails at every opportunity!! (My DH looks scared at this point)

Sorry ………… you want to hear about food right?

Here goes:

DH’s appetiser – the mixed Tempura

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0059-1.jpg

He loved this and said that the tempura batter was really light and crisp

I ordered the Edamame

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0060-1.jpg

I eat these a lot at home and really enjoy them, DH thought I was mad ordering ‘a plate of vegetables’ ………… this coming from a man who ordered a glass of coke instead of a Mount Fuji :rotfl2:

Our server bought us hot towels to freshen up with and then our entrees arrived

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0061-1.jpg

We both ended up ordering the same thing. The menu mentioned Conch as part of the platter but the server informed us that they were out and that they were using Eel instead, great news for us as we both love Eel and this actually ended up being our favourite piece. The sushi was fresh and just the right temperature (I hate it when sushi is served too cold) We both really enjoyed our dinner and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it

Just as we were finishing eating the lights dimmed and Illuminations started. The music was piped into the restaurant which was a really nice and unexpected touch

Neither of us felt like desert so we decided to call it a day

popcorn::popcorn::popcorn::popcorn::popcorn:: out of popcorn::popcorn::popcorn::popcorn::popcorn::

What a perfect end to our first full day, we headed back to our hotel with huge smiles on our faces ………..

Coming up next ……. Off to Animal Kingdom

During the Winter Olympics, the Today Show (the National tv outlet that carried the Olympics for us here in the U.S.), talked about Wunderbars quite frequently . . .

It's a famous chocolate bar :yay:

Mmmmm, Wunderbars are a peanutbutter rice crispy centre surrounded by caramel and coated in chocolate. It is my favourite chocolate bar.

Thanks for the info, I didn't actually taste it but DH loved it :thumbsup2

:wave2: Hello everyone, thanks so much for all of the lovely comments. The sun has been shining in England today

Our plan for day two of our vacation was to hit Animal Kingdom for rope drop and get to the major attractions before leaving at lunch time for a round of golf.

We were heading back to AK for breakfast at Tusker House later in our vacation so we though it would create a much more relaxed day if we jumped on all the big attractions on one day and the animal exhibits on our Tusker House day

In what was to become our regular start to the day, I grabbed a coffee and a snack at the hotel which I enjoyed sitting by the pool with DH talking about the day ahead :)

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0206-1.jpg

Soon we were jumping in the car and heading to ...................

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0547-1-1.jpg

We watched the opening show are headed straight to Expedition Everest. As always it was great, so we grabbed fast passes for a second ride and continued on our adventure

After working our way through all the major attractions with no lines (including our second visit to Everest) we began to feel hungry. A quick visit to the coffee and pastries booth in Asia delivered exactly what we needed

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0078-1.jpg

Blueberry Muffins

These Muffins were really good, very light and fresh. I grabbed a Chai Tea Latte to accompany it and as we were right opposite and a show was about to start, we took a seat at the flights of wonder show and began to eat popcorn::

Lucky for us non of our flying friends spotted the blueberry treats and we managed to enjoy them all to ourselves

After the show we spent some time with the Photo Pass CMs perfecting our cheesy smiles  and headed off for our round of golf

Not to worry, we weren't heading out of Africa just yet ........... tonight we had a real treat in store

Coming up ................ Off to Boma

:wave2: So last time we met I was leaving the Animal Kingdom for a round of golf. Well, just as we were leaving the park the rain started and it POURED down.
We headed over to Oak Trail anyway just in case it eased off.
While we were hanging around DH decided he was hungry so he grabbed a hot dog from the small kiosk near the pro-shop. He really enjoyed it and I am pleased to report it was a soft and fluffy white bun!!
I didn’t feel particularly hungry so I just grabbed a coffee.
The rain didn’t look like stopping any time soon so we headed back to our hotel to relax and get changed for our visit to the Animal Kingdom Lodge
We arrived at the resort early as we wanted to have a look around the hotel and check out the animals on the savannah. It’s a beautiful resort so it’s well worth spending some time looking around and as the rain had now stopped it was a lovely way to start the evening
I checked in at Boma 15 minutes before our ADR time and we took a seat on the benches next to the podium
Our buzzer started to flash pretty much exactly on our ADR time and a friendly cast member took us over to a really nice table towards the back of the restaurant next to the window.
It was a busy and bustling restaurant but where we were seated felt quite calm and secluded.
Our server arrived at the table, welcomed us, explained how the buffet worked and recommended a couple of dishes. He then asked us what we would like to drink, DH stuck to water but I had only one thing on my mind ………….. one of these babies

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0087-1.jpg

Magical Star Cocktail - X-Fusion Organic Mango and Passion Fruit Liqueur, Parrot Bay Coconut Rum, Pineapple Juice

This was every bit as good as I had hoped, it was sweet and delicious (without being over sweet) and it really hit the spot

Before long we went to check out the buffet. I really liked the way that there were different ‘pods’ with the various dishes on display. It meant that you didn’t have to stand in one big line at sections that didn’t interest you and was particularly good for me and DH as he could head straight to the meat sections and I could check out the vegetarian and fish options

Although I didn’t take any photos of the buffet area I was really impressed with how fresh everything looked and the staff were really keeping on top of cleaning down and replacing any empty dishes.

One of the things that has put me off buffets in the past is that I don’t like the idea (or taste) of food that has been sitting under a heat lamp for too long or hanging around for fresh supplies . Neither of these issues were a problem at Boma

We both decided that we would like to try some soup to kick off our African adventure

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0093-1.jpg

Creamy Carrot & Ginger Soup

Yummy, yummy, yummy …………………. And once more to make the point yummy !!

This soup tasted wonderful, it was the perfect consistency, taste and temperature (in case you hadn’t worked it out yet I LOVED this :cloud9:) The amount of ginger was just perfect and it was beautifully creamy and smooth

When our server came to clear my empty bowl he asked me what I thought of it (I think he saw me licking the bowl ) I told him how much I had enjoyed it and he asked me to wait a few moments as he was going to get something for me ??

Soon he was back at the table with a bowl of Roasted Butternut Squash soup from ‘next door’ I’m not sure if he meant Mara or Jiko and I forgot to ask.

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0095-1.jpg

Roasted Butternut Squash Soup

He thought I might like to try it as in his opinion it was just as good as the Carrot and Ginger (he was right !!) What a nice gesture and what a great server

We shared the soup and by the time we finished DH was more than ready to release the carnivore within !!

DHs first plate:

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0094-1.jpg

Pork, Prime Rib & Fries

Yeah, I know, he got fries from the kids section :rotfl2: DH isn’t usually that descriptive about his food but he did say that the Pork was delicious and by far the nicest thing on his plate. He also enjoyed the beef. I asked if if any of the meat seemed sweet to him as I have read on the DIS that a lot of people have found this. He said it wasn’t but couldn't really put his finger on the spices used but he certainly enjoyed it

OK, onto my first plate

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0096-1.jpg

This buffet was just perfect for me as there was a huge amount of things I could eat and I loved trying all the different dishes.

It's kind of hard to see exactly what was on my plate as dishes were places on top of each other (sorry I'll do better on my next trip!!)

My favourites were the Couscous Marrakesh, Spinach & Corn Porridge (yes I know it sounds weird but it really worked) the Fu Fu, the grilled salmon was wonderful and the Tamarind sauce was the perfect accompaniment, sweet without being over sweet. Somewhere hiding beneath the salmon was some Avacado and Grapefruit salad (lovely)

We were both getting fairly full but there were still a couple of salads I wanted to try and the pita breads and hummus were calling my name. Sorry didn’t get a picture of my second plate but I had some Mealie bread. Pita with black bean hummus and red pepper hummus

The breads were delicious but I though that both of the hummus dishes were a little too salty for my tastes.

DH went back for some more pork so he must have really loved this, he also got some of the salmon but he really didn’t like the sauce as he felt it overpowered the fish. He also tried some of the chicken but didn’t enjoy the seasoning and spices used and thought it was a little dry

I may have been full but there was no way I was missing the desert section!!

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0097-1.jpg

Clockwise from the bottom of the plate, chocolate & ginger mousse, tropical fruit panna cotta, African cofee tart, caramel cheescake and last but not least the zebra dome

I love that these are small bite size deserts as you can get a nice selection and try different things

I loved the Zebra domes, totally delicious (I went back for more) DH wasn’t keen on them. The caramel cheesecake was fantastic and DH went to get more!!
I wasn’t too taken with the tropical fruit panna cotta but I’m not really a fan of this type of desert anyway.
The chocolate and ginger mousse was ‘nice’ nothing spectacular but I enjoyed the African coffee tart (DH didn’t try this as he doesn’t like the taste of coffee)

Obviously having two small pieces of fruit on the plate instantly makes it really healthy and cancels out any sugar and calories consumed

Overall I would rate Boma really highly. This ADR was probably always more for my enjoyment than DHs as I knew that there would be a huge amount of vegetarian and fish dishes for me to sample but DH said he would definitely eat there again and we had a great evening

popcorn::popcorn::popcorn::popcorn:: out of popcorn::popcorn::popcorn::popcorn::popcorn::

I would probably give it 5 out of 5 but DH would give it 4

We settled our bill and waddled out of the restaurant for the short drive back to the hotel with full bellies and happy hearts

Coming up next …………… Yay, it’s time for the Magic Kingdom!!

It was a Sunday evening and the salmon was fab !

Darn! :lmao: Sunday is supposed to be chef's choice, so there's no guarantee there will be salmon if we go on Sunday (our reservation is currently for Sunday, but if we knew for sure that salmon is always offered on, say, Tuesday, we'd go then). But we'll hope for the best! We don't eat meat other than seafood so the salmon is more appealing to us than the beef or chicken or whatever else it is they usually have at that station.

Thank you for your answer!

I've been a fan of Boma for many years. Breakfast is fantastic, too!
My friend Bruce taught me the "soup trick" during my first visit there back in 2001.

I'm a soup fiend, so I wanted to try as many of the soups as possible. Bruce discovered if you took a dinner plate, you can balance three soup bowls on it and only have to make one trip back to the table! I wouldn't fill the bowls too full, and it worked great. :thumbsup2

I'm surprised the DH didn't think Boma was good for meat eaters. It sure looked like he satisfied his Inner Carnivore with his pork and beef selections!

I love the Salmon here, it's amazing! Really enjoying your review :goodvibes

:goodvibes Thanks very much

They did have a really great seafood salad as well so even if there is no salmon you will find loads of great choices :)

MMM great pictures! I'm getting hungry just looking at them lol. BF and I loveee Boma, and it's his favorite restaurant in Disney. The butternut squash soup is AMAZING, their soups are delicious :)

:cool1: Oooh the soups stole the show

This newbie really enjoyed your review...you and your pictures cemented our decision to try Boma in the fall. Thx!

:cheer2: I am sure you will love it :cheer2:

Caught up! Mmmmmmmmm sushi....I could eat it every day.

Great reviews so far!

:woohoo: Thanks so much for reading (I didn't think anyone would !!)

I'm not a big drinker but definitely have seen a few drinks I wanna try now when we go in December. And I'm definitely going to have to visit Canada for candy. Can't wait to see more of your reviews!!!!

The drinks are so yummy you must try them

:wave2: Hello everyone, hope you are all having a great day

So the next stop on our little adventure was the Magic Kingdom.

As usual I grabbed a coffee and a banana at the hotel and we jumped in the car :drive:

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0041-1-1.jpg

It doesn’t matter how I often I see this I still get excited. Probably one of the (few) benefits of staying off property is that you get to see it every day !!

We arrived at the monorail station at 7.30am and were standing outside the turnstiles to MK at 8am (the park didn’t open until 9am !!). I always get to the parks really early. Lucky for me DH understands and puts up with the early morning wake up calls

Once in the park we headed straight to Space Mountain and began our commando touring plan (it worked like a dream by the way)

DH hadn’t had anything to eat yet so when we were leaving Tomorrowland he decided that breakfast was indeed the most important meal of the day and purchased an extremely healthy and nutritious snack

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0104-1.jpg

Yeah I know, sorry, he nibbled an ear before I got the camera out

Pumped full of sugar he began to walk a little faster :hyper: and we hit all the major attractions with no lines and picked up Fast Passes for second visits until we got to the point in our plan that meant we could take our foot off the gas

When lunch time came around we were in Frontierland so decided to head over to Pecos Bills. It was fairly busy inside and CMs were directing you to a line and weren’t allowing customers to head to a table until every member of their party had their food. I have read about this on the boards before and know that it is something that Disney have started to do during busy periods. I know that there are mixed opinions of this but for me and DH it worked great as we were directed straight to a free table with our trays

DH ordered the Angus Burger with fries and a Coke and I ordered the Vegetarian Burger with Apple Slices and a bottle of water

After we had ordered and paid we headed to the counter to pick up our food and were then told that the Vegetarian burgers are cooked fresh at a separate section at the back of the restaurant by the toppings bar which although it sounds like a great idea means that you don’t pick up your food at the same time as everyone else in your party

Whilst DH was getting ketchup and mayo I stood in the very slow moving line at the vegetarian grill to pick up my order

I apologise in advance for the poor photos here, not sure what I did but they look really dark

Here’s is DHs lunch

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0105-1.jpg

Deluxe 1/3-Pound Angus Cheeseburger - topped with bacon, onion rings, and barbeque sauce served with french fries or apple slices $9.09

He really enjoyed the burger but guess what? The bun fell apart again. His food was a little cold after waiting for me to get mine but he always seems to let his food cool down before eating so he said it really didn’t matter

Here is my veggie burger

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0106-1.jpg

Vegetable Burger - served with fries or apple slices $6.79

Now the great thing about Pecos Bills is the toppings bar which when you are having a vegetarian burger is a great bonus. I filled it up with mushrooms, onions, salad and gherkins

I enjoyed this burger. You could certainly tell that it was grilled to order and it was very fresh and tasty. Now here is the weird thing ……… my burger came in a soft white bun (the kind that DH was dreaming of) strange huh :confused3

Last time we came to WDW in 2007 I ate many veggie burgers and I have to say that the new versions are much, much nicer. They are full of vegetables rather than just a hunk of soya protein.

Following our very nice lunch at Pecos Bill's I needed something sweet and we didn't have far to go in order for me to try my first ever Dole Whip

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0107-1.jpg

Dole Whip Soft Serve Pineapple Swirl - $2.89

You will notice that there are two spoons ............................

'Hey DH what's that over there?' ................. DH spins round
'Oooh I seem to have lost the other spoon'

Boy this was delicious, no way I am sharing :rotfl2:

The crowds weren't too bad today and we re-visited some of our favourites and used our Fast Passes

We were coming back to the Magic Kingdom in a few days for some afternoon and evening touring so we decided to leave the park at around 5pm but not before stopping off at Main Street Confectionery

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0108-1.jpg

I prefer the pineapple/vanilla swirl, because straight on pineapple is a bit much for me. (And I like fresh pineapple, go figure.) I had the biggest giggle at the Mickey apple saying "eat me". :lmao:

As for the burgers, I'm really surprised you haven't gotten the disintegrating burger bun. That's pretty standard everywhere now. I might get a veggie burger just to avoid the bad bun. But knowing my bad luck and timing, they'll have changed the buns to the disintegrating kind before my next trip.

Personally, I like the sound of the CMs handling the traffic control and the "saving" of tables. I haven't ordered it at Pecos Bill's, but you can definitely get the veggie burger with cheese at Restaurantosaurus, Liberty Inn, and the POFQ food court. So I would think you can get it anywhere.

I really love WDW's veggie burgers.

Following a great day in the Magic Kingdom we headed back to our hotel to shower and change and then headed down to the pool for a couple of drinks whilst we decided where to eat that evening. I had a couple of bud lights sitting by the pool and DH hit the Coke

We both just felt like staying local and getting something light so we headed into Celebration as it was just across the road :drive:

We’d never been into Celebration before but we both really liked the feel of the place :) We strolled around checking out the various shops and restaurants (there are lots to choose from) but we really only felt like a sandwich so we headed into the Market Street Café.

First impressions were really good, all the staff were super friendly and there was a great buzz about the place.

We were seated at a nice booth by the window and we ordered our drinks. DH had an orange juice and I had a glass of wine. I can’t remember what I had, I think it was a Californian Chardonnay and I remember it as being just ‘OK’

So here is what DH went for

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0128-1.jpg

Turkey Club Sandwich With Homemade Coleslaw

And here is my choice

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0129-1.jpg

Pita bread stuffed with our famous tuna salad and homemade coleslaw

Both looked great when they arrived but I’m sorry to report that neither dish was very tasty :sad2: Firstly both sandwiches were ICE cold. Now we obviously didn’t expect either sandwich to be warm but they both tasted as if they had been taken straight out of a fridge. The pita bread in particular was extremely cold as was the tuna inside. DH’s sandwich was lighly toasted so it seemed strange that it was soooo cold :confused3 I’m saving the worst till last though ……. ‘homemade coleslaw’ I don’t know who’s home it was made in but it just tasted ‘chemically’ yuk

Not to worry though, we still had a nice time talking about our day and our plans for tomorrow but we wouldn’t be heading back to the Market Street Café any time soon

We jumped in the car and headed back to the hotel as we had a little treat waiting for us ……………………….

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0133-1.jpg

Vanilla Cupcake for DH

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0132-1.jpg

Red Velvet Cupcake for me

We picked up these little lovelies at Main Street Confectionery as we left the Magic Kingdom and they were just heavenly :cloud9: The red velvet cupcake was amazing :worship: the frosting was cream cheese and the cake was wonderfully light and fresh. DH’s vanilla cupcake disappeared in record time and he proclaimed it to be ‘delicious’ What a great way to end our day :yay:

:wave2: Hello lovely DIS people. Hope you are all having a great day

So today we are heading over to Hollywood Studios

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0602-1-1.jpg

As always we were standing at the turnstiles well before the official opening time and as soon as the park opened joined the inevitable rush to Toy Story Mania.

These guys were there to meet us

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0138copy-1.jpg

‘Good Morning’

They had a very important mission – stop people killing each other at the Fast Pass machines

I grabbed two Fast Passes and headed into the ride with DH, we walked straight on and absolutely loved it :thumbsup2 . It hadn’t yet opened when we last visited in 2007 so this was our first experience and it totally lived up to the hype !! I was really pleased that we had Fast Passes for a second ride. When we returned later in the day, not surprisingly all the Fast Passes had gone and the wait time was posted at 140 mins :scared1:

We then hit all the usual suspects and grabbed Fast Passes for second rides on Tower Of Terror (my all time favourite) and Rock n Roller Coaster

Soon we were beginning to feel hungry so we headed here for a quick snack

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0144-1.jpg

I love this place and we visited quite a few times on our last trip. Although the cupcakes looked fantastic we both decided to go for something a little simpler (but just as fantastic)

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0142-1.jpg

Blueberry Muffins and a Latte for me

The Muffins were wonderful, very light and fresh and the caffine hit was just what we needed after ‘manic’ balloon shooting , plummeting to our doom in an out of order elevator and breaking the official speed limit in a stretch limo !!

It was a beautiful sunny day and we really enjoyed our time in the park and managed to see everything with little or no wait (really enjoyed American Idol by the way)

Just before lunch a very nice couple took a picture of us

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0201-1.jpg

DH was getting hungry but I didn’t really feel like anything so we headed over to the ABC Commissary where DH picked up one of these

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0147-1.jpg

Cheeseburger With Fries

Again, he seemed to enjoy it. He didn’t pass much comment but it was soon all gone.

I didn’t feel like eating so I just grabbed a cold beer

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0148-1.jpg

Mmm – hit the spot nicely on a hot day

We continued our tour of the park and soon my stomach began to say ‘feed me’ the good news was that we had a ‘Fanstasmic’ ADR coming up

Next Up …………….. Mama Mia – Mama Melrose’s here we come

We were really enjoying our day at Hollywood Studios. The sun was shining and we were having a great time

When I was planning this trip I really wanted to make life as easy as possible when it came to seeing all that WDW had to offer and for this reason decided to get an ADR for a Fantasmic Dinner Package

I knew only too well how early people start to line up for this show (especially now it isn’t on every night) so anything that could cut that time, if only slightly would be a real bonus, plus ‘you gotta eat’

I checked out the menus on All Ears and decided that Mama Melrose’s was the one for us.

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0145-1-1.jpg

The Brown Derby looks great but for some reason it just didn’t seem like the type of menu that would work for a late afternoon ADR, especially as we would probably be hitting a few more attractions after eating

Many people have complained that the Fantasmic Packages always come with an ADR time that was too early for dinner and too late for lunch. Obviously Disney want to have the restaurants running at full capacity all day and this is a great way of them ensuring that. The thing to do is either have a late breakfast or early lunch (which works best for touring the parks anyway) also you could always get your desert ‘to go’ and munch it whilst waiting for Fantasmic to start

We arrived about 15 mins ahead of our ADR which was scheduled for 4.45pm. The CM at the podium informed us that they were running behind and we would probably have a bit of a wait. No problem, we took a seat on the benches in the foyer fully expecting to be there for a while when suddenly we saw our buzzer light up. We couldn’t have been waiting for more than one minute !!

A really friendly CM took us to a nice quite table at the edge of the restaurant. I loved the look and feel of this place. There are twinkling fairy lights everywhere and it was a cool, calm, relaxing environment

Soon our server arrived and explained the Fantasmic package to us, basically you choose an appetizer, entrée and dessert from the regular menu and that he would give us a voucher that granted us access to a reserved area of seating in the theatre. He recommended that we arrived at the theatre an hour before the show started (we actually went to the theatre about 50 mins prior and got great seats)

He talked us through the menus and took our drinks orders. DH stuck with water but I had something a bit more exciting on my mind

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0187-1.jpg

Blue Glow-Tini, Skyy Citrus Vodka, Bols Blue Curacao, Bols Peach Schnapps,Sweet & Sour,
Pineapple Juice

Oh yes – delicious !!

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0188-1.jpg

Ooh look she is positively glowing

Our server then bought us some fresh warm bread rolls with dipping oil

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0186-1.jpg

I really enjoy oil with bread so had to resist not filling up too much with these beauties

We had no problem finding lots of options on this menu that we would enjoy and both decided on a salad for our starter

DH went for a Caesar

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0189-1.jpg

Caesar Salad - with crisp romaine lettuce, Caesar dressing and crostini

I decided on this

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0190-1.jpg

Mixed Greens Salad with Dried Cherry Vinaigrette, Candied Walnuts,
fresh Pear, and imported Gorgonzola Cheese

They were both excellent choices. DH loves Caesar salad and thought that this one was particularly good. The dressing was excellent and there was plenty of Parmesan

The dressing on my salad was also excellent and the sweetness of the cherry vinaigrette and candied walnuts worked really well against the sharp gorgonzola.

We both cleared our plates

Our server was very attentive and checked that everything was good and offered us more drinks …………. Ooh how could I refuse?

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0193-1.jpg

Rosa Regale

I had spotted this on the menu when I had ordered my cocktail and remembered how much I had enjoyed it at Epcot

Soon our entrees arrived. First up DHs choice

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0191-1.jpg

Four Cheese Flatbread - with Asiago, Mozzarella, Provolone, and Gorgonzola Cheese

He really enjoyed this. The flatbread base was perfectly crisp and the comination of cheeses worked really well. They have a wood fired oven at MM and you can really tell in the quality of the flatbreads

And for me

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0192-1.jpg

Roasted Wild Mushroom and Goat Cheese Ravioli poached in Herb, Tomato and Mushroom Broth topped with Porcini Whipped Cream and Imported Parmigiano Shavings

Woohoo another winner :woohoo:. The ravioli were very generously filled with goats cheese and the mushroom and tomato broth was insanely good …………. Do you think this is where Disney gets their tomatoes from?

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_1710-1.jpg

We were now getting really full but we just had to squeeze those desserts in

DH went for this

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0194-1.jpg

Crema Limone - No Sugar Added Lemon Custard topped with fresh Whipped Cream and Berries

I ordered the Gelato

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0195-1.jpg

OK, this is where Mama Melrose’s is going to get marked down. The description of my dessert was simply ‘Gelato’ no other information. When I ordered it I was offered the option of vanilla or chocolate and chose vanilla. Now my Italian isn’t great but my understanding of the word ‘Gelato’ is ice cream? What I actually got was what can only be described as a very runny milk shake  Our server must have noticed me pulling a face and asked if everything was OK? I explained that I was expecting ice cream and had my dessert just melted? He explained that it is ‘supposed ' to be an ice cream float made with hot coffee ………….. well it can ‘float’ away from my table thanks

DHs desert was not as bad but really lacked something ……….. ahh yes, that’s right, SUGAR !!! Not really sure why he ordered this, I guess nothing else appealed

So deserts were a bit of a let down, but hey, you win some you loose some and the rest of the meal was great

We paid our bill and chatted some more with our wonderful server who was great throughout and said ciao to Mama Melrose’s

popcorn::popcorn::popcorn::popcorn:: out of popcorn::popcorn::popcorn::popcorn::popcorn:: (would have been 5 if the desserts were good)

Me ‘DH, do you think it’s a good idea to go on Tower Of Terror after alcohol and Pasta?’
DH ‘Sure ……….. race you there !!’

Next up ………….. Retail Therapy

Did you eat both of those muffins ;)

:rolleyes1 as if I would do somthing like that ;)

Hello Just joined into reading your Dining Review. I really enjoy it! I enjoyed Mama Melrose update!

Thanks for taking the time to read :thumbsup2

Great Mama Melrose review, looks like you guys had a nice meal there (minus the desserts!).

Thanks, we really enjoyed it there :)

You are too cute!! I am enjoying reading your reviews and seeing all the great pictures. Thank you!

Aww thanks :flower3:

Gotta say, the ABC Commissary burgers are not good burgers. I normally avoid this place entirely, but I had gone there in December for the purpose of being social with other Disney fans from these internet sites! I know what good burgers should be...and these are the opposite. Rant over. ;)

As for Mama Melrose...
The goat cheese ravioli looked fantastic! I would definitely want to give that a try. Bummer about the desserts, though.

Coming up real soon - by the way I was brought up in Hinckley so know Coalville well :thumbsup2

Ive been to Hinckley a few times, my son went to a nursery there.
Coalvilles ok, prefer Essex-where im originally from. coalvilles location is great though.

great Mama Melrose review. :goodvibes

I thought gelato was an ice cream too, im sure ive seen pics of it from there before. They look totally different to what you got, mind you i would of liked it.

Mmm I am definitely going to Starring Rolls next time I go to DHS! On the DIS I have seen people's pictures of the cupcakes they get there and the pastries look so yummy!

Mama Melrose is one of our favorites, we love it there :goodvibes
I am almost positive they gave you an affogato dessert, which is vanilla gelato topped with espresso. Why they simply described it as gelato is beyond me.

This gelato thing is really strange... We have an ice cream float made with COLD coffee here in Germany (called ice coffee as oposed to iced coffee): vanilla icecream floating in cold coffee topped with whipped cream: delicious!! :cloud9:

How can they expect the ice cream to stay ice cream when it is in hot coffee... :confused3

Actually someone once explained in a dining review that gelato is different from American ice cream, I think it has less fat and is softer than American ice cream...

I think we just ordered the wrong things. Looking back at the menu we should have gone for the cheesecake

That is kind of how our server explained it but it certainly wasn't descibed as 'affogato' on the menu :confused3

Love your reviews, we were lucky enough to have visited just after you. We also did MM Fantasmic package, and based on the picture I think they gave you the Tiramisu dessert, not gelato. I did a quick dining review (nothing as great as yours!) and described it as a weird melty thing, but that's what it looked like. It was described as having gelato in it, but if you say your server told you they pour coffee on it that explain why it was so melted. My son ordered chocolate gelato and it looked just like you would expect, like ice cream in a bowl. Like you, the weird dessert didn't ruin the night for us, we really enjoyed the food.

Looking forward to reading more!

This is the second time I've read that Mama Melrose is not correctly advertising this dessert, although I believe in another post they were advertising "Tirimisu" that was actually Tirimisu flavoured gelato served with espresso.

The actual name for what you were served is Gelato Affogato, that is, gelato drowning in espresso. I used to work at a Gelato place; if you like espresso they are really tasty!

Good Morning on a beautiful, sunny day in England :wave2:

I am spending the day doing some volunteering so just a quick post and not many pics I'm afraid

Today we decided to have a day away from the parks and hit the Mall instead

Our day started with coffee, fruit and a quick read of the newspaper by the pool before jumping in the car and heading to the Florida Mall :drive:

An hour or so after arriving and as my credit card started to melt ;) we decided it was time for a quick snack so we headed to the food court. I don't seem to have any pictures but your aren't missing much. We grabbed a blueberry muffin for DH and a banana nut muffin for me. I also had a very nice carrot, apple and ginger juice in a vain attempt to consume at least one healthy item on this trip :rolleyes1

We carried on with our shopping trip (DH loves shopping by the way so I don't have to drag him round :thumbsup2) until we actually couldn't carry any more bags and decided it was time for lunch

We headed back to the car to drop off our bags and spotted that there was a Panera Bread located just across the way. We really wanted a nice sandwich so this is where we headed

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0207-1.jpg

Mozzarella, Tomato With Sun Dried Pesto & Chips

We both ordered the same sandwich and it was delicious, the sun dried tomato pesto gave it a really nice lift and the bread was superb

On all of our previous trips to WDW we have embarked on a 'Mini Golf Challenge' and today was to be round one. Nicely full from our lunch we headed off here

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0213-1.jpg

You may have noticed that we didn't order any dessert at Panera Bread so that gave us a good excuse to induldge in one of these as soon as we arrived

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0215-1.jpg

Yep, yet another Mickey Bar

So with sugar in the tank we tackled the Winter course and although it was close I am sad to report DH won :sad2:

There is a nice little seating area in the shade at Winter Summerland so when we had returned our clubs we decided to grab a cold drink and snack before heading back to the hotel

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0225-1.jpg

The salted cashew nuts were great and we shared them whilst DH bragged about his win

We headed back to our hotel for a quick shower and change and headed down to the pool bar for a drink (Coke for DH and beer for me)

Neither of us felt like driving very far to get dinner so we decided to just stop at the first place we saw that looked OK :car:

We ended up at Logan's Roadhouse on US192. We hadn't eaten in this chain before but didn't feel like anything fancy so this fitted the bill.

Sorry I didn't take any pics in here

We got seated in one of the booths and our server came to take our drinks order. I had a glass of Chardonnay (sorry can't remember the detail) and DH had an OJ. A quick look at the menu and we both decided we just wanted an entreee and nothing too big.

Our server brought us some nice, warm sourdough bread and butter and we placed our orders, a half rack of baby back ribs with mashed potato and coleslaw for DH and grilled salmon with sweet potato and brocolli for me.

Both meals were simple and small but were well cooked and tasty. I really liked the addition of cinnamon on my sweet potato as I hadn't tried this combo before. DH said the ribs were good but thought he should have gone for a full rack as it was a really small portion. We didn't feel like dessert so we asked for the bill and paid our server. It was an inexpensive dinner and we were in and out real quick. Not sure that it is somewhere we would go again but it suited what we needed that evening

Next up ......... as if I haven't spent enough money, we're off to the Mall At The Millenia

Morning everyone :wave2:

We are now on day 6 of our wonderful vacation and today was a good day, lots of shopping, good food, good drinks all rounded off with an evening at Downtown Disney

As usual we headed down to the pool for morning coffee and a look through the newspapers before deciding on our plans for the day

First stop was the Mall At The Millenia where we had a great time spending all of our hard earned cash :thumbsup2

A quick rest at Starbucks (Tea for DH and a Cinnamon Dolce Latte for me) and we all set for another assault on the stores

Soon it was food time and we both agreed that lunch at the Cheesecake Factory was in order. I really love this place and we have always had a really good meal whenever we’ve been there

It was a beautiful day so we asked if there was a table available outside and by the time we had freshened up our table was ready

Our server was great, he really took the time to chat to us and make recommendations. As I am sure you all know the menu here is huge so it’s good to get a few ideas from your server. He took our drinks order and left us to decide.

I think DH stuck with water but I had another lovely treat

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0226-1.jpg

Frozen Strawberry Daiquiri

Oh boy – this was wonderful

We also got some warm fresh bread and butter and I particularly enjoyed the whole wheat variety

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0228-1.jpg

After much debate we finally decided on what to order. We didn’t want appetizers as we knew the entrées would be huge

Here is DH’s lunch

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0231-1.jpg

B.B.Q. Pulled Pork Sandwich
Slow Roasted Pork Covered with Our B.B.Q. Sauce on a Brioche Bun served with Fries and Coleslaw

He just loved this, the pork was really tender and the B.B.Q sauce was excellent. He also really enjoyed the coleslaw and cleared his plate

I really wanted a salad as they are always great here so this is what I ordered

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0230-1.jpg

Seared Tuna Tataki Salad
Pacific Albacore Tuna Lightly Seared and Served Rare with Avocado, Tomato & Mixed Greens Tossed With Wasabi Vinaigrette

The tuna was seared perfectly and the wasabi vinaigrette was the perfect dressing for this salad.

As always the Cheesecake Factory was wonderful and I wish I could tell you that we saved room for one of their amazing cheesecakes but we didn’t
The slices of Cheesecake here are huge and what we normally do is pop in just to have Cheesecake and coffee or get some to take out but we were far too stuffed to do a slice justice so we settled our bill and headed back to the car with our very full tummies and very full shopping bags

Lunch was definitely

Following our lunch at Cheesecake Factory we headed back to our hotel to drop off our shopping and then took the short drive to Fantasia Gardens for round two of the Mini Golf Challenge

You may remember that DH had won round one of the challenge so this time I was determined to focus on the task ahead with professionalism and the kind of attitude that has created winners and sporting excellence throughout the ages

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0241-1.jpg

This is what drinking too many Lapu Lapus can do to you :rotfl:

Anyway, a few other people had just started their games so the CM asked if you would mind waiting for 10 minutes….. no problem at all, it will give me chance to try one of these ………..

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0232-1.jpg

Mickey’s Cookie & Cream Ice Cream Sandwich

I hadn’t tried one of these before as my heart belongs to the Mickey Bar but this was good and a nice treat ahead of our game

Soon it was our time to get started and we set off around the ‘Fairways’ side of the course

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0239-1.jpg

Following our game the plan for the evening was to head over to Downtown Disney for a visit to Disney Quest and something to eat ……………………….. Oh yeah, I suppose you want to the outcome of our game ……….. DH won. I obviously let him in the interest of marital harmony :rolleyes1

We enjoyed our time at Disney Quest especially as it was pretty quite in there. Just before we left we joined in one of the Animation Academy Sessions and attempted to draw Minnie Mouse. DH was in hysterics at my final picture and pointed our that Minnie looked like she hadn’t been feeling too well lately

Upon realising that a career in art was never going to happen we headed over to House Of Blues for a quick drink. There was a really great singer performing outside so DH grabbed a Coke and I got a Bud Light and we sat and listened for a while

We were both beginning to feel hungry so we took a stroll through Westside and ended up in DTD Marketplace. Neither of us felt like a table service meal and having read so many great reviews on the boards I suggested the Earl Of Sandwich

I was really impressed with the set up in here. The queue looked big when we arrived but they were very efficient at taking orders and getting people moved through quickly. They seem to have a lot of staff working in this location and it certainly shows in the speed of service

Here is DHs choice

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0251-1.jpg

Tuna Melt - albacore tuna salad and Swiss cheese

And for me ……………..

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0253-1.jpg

Veggie - Feta cheese, lettuce, roma tomatoes, cucumber, red onion, roasted red peppers and Mediterranean Dressing

Now the Earl Of Sandwich is one of those places that I had read so much about on the DIS Boards that I just had to try it for myself and boy, you were all so right about this place. The bread was warm fresh and tasty and the fillings were generous and full of flavour. I particularly enjoyed the Mediterranean Dressing on my sandwich and I am a big fan of Feta so this was an all round winner for me. DH loved his Tuna Melt as well and said that ‘we must come back here’ :thumbsup2

We weren’t on the dining plan but many of the people ordering here were and I have to say that this is a great value way of using a CS credit

For dessert we picked up one of these and two spoons

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0250-1.jpg

Yogurt Parfait With Peach

Again this was delicious and only one complaint ……………. We should have got one spoon :rotfl2:

Without doubt I award the EOS popcorn::popcorn::popcorn::popcorn::popcorn:: out of popcorn::popcorn::popcorn::popcorn::popcorn::

We left EOS and continued our tour of Downtown Disney. It was a busy evening but lots of fun looking around at everything and watching the world go by

Hi Linda! I just found your review and I couldn't stop reading! You are a fabulous writer and doing extremely well for your first dining review!!

In Epcot, your dinner at Teppan Edo looked so good, as well as your very pretty drink! :drinking1 And I must try one of those wunderbars! Oh, how did you like the UK pavillion??

Don't you just love going to the parks early? There is nothing better than walking down a nearly empty Main Street. I love how your husband started his day off with a mickey bar! :mickeybar That is something I would do!! :upsidedow Oh, and I'm also pretty sure it is near to impossible to order a hot cheeseburger from any counter services restaurant in WDW. And yet, I still get one on every trip . I love the "Eat Me" caption from the Confectionery. I mean how can you go in there and not order something? ;)

Too bad about your meal at Celebration. I haven't stayed there in quite a while, but I do love just walking around there. It is such a pleasant place.

As for DHS, I love the green army man and his "mission" to stop all those crazy people. Even though it is a wonderful attraction, it still amazes me how the line will get soooooo long in the afternoon. Your dinner at Mama Melrose's looks delicious! Shame about the desserts though - when you order gelato, you should be given gelato, not ice cream and coffee.

I'm glad you enjoyed mini golf. It was very nice of you to let your husband win ;). I really want to try and play mini golf on our next trip. Did you enjoy one course more than the other?

Ahh, Earl of Sandwich... We discovered this place a couple of years ago and now we have to make sure we come here every trip. The sandwichs are so delicious and they are just big enough to hold us over until we have ice cream from Ghirardelli's :woohoo:. I have never been to Goofy’s Candy Company in DTD, but after seeing your creation we are definitely going here!! Your rice krispie treat looks amazing!!

Well, sorry I ended up writing you a small book . Thanks for sharing your reviews and I'm looking forward to the next one!! :goodvibes

:goodvibes

:flower3: thanks for your lovely comments. To answer your questions, we really like the UK pavillion and always stop in to chat to our fellow Brits. We never eat there though as there is just too much else to try :) We actually saw British Invasion play on this trip and I thought they were great, really good fun :rockband:

Mini Golf - Winter Summerland has the best theme and there is a nice seating area to have a snack and drink. The Fairways side of Fantasia Gardens is the most difficult as it's just like a mini golf course with sand traps and bunkers.

Quick tip - when you play a round of golf at either course you can get a second game for half price up until midnight the following day at Winter Summerland or Fantasia Gardens :thumbsup2

Earl of Sandwich & Goofy's Candy Co. are two of our favorite places in DTD. Ever since I took my sister to Earl last year, she can't stop talking about it.

Which mini-golf place did you like better? I love me some mini-golf, and have been wanting to play on a Disney course for the longest!

:cheer2: If I had to choose it would probably be Winter Summerland, the music is fun there as well :thumbsup2

Hello everyone :wave2:

Today we are making a short trip up the I4 to Universal

We enjoyed our usual morning routine of caffeine and news and jumped in the car bright and early :car:

It was another beautiful sunny day and soon we were here ......

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0326-1.jpg

There were very few people waiting at the turnstiles for the park to open so we knew we would be able to hit the big rides before the queues built up

So where did we head first?

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0324-1.jpg

Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit

What a great ride, I love that you get to choose your own soundtrack :music:. We walked straight back round rode it again

The park was empty so everything was walk on, soon we both felt like a rest so we headed into Starbucks for a quick ‘pick me up’

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0270-1.jpg

Tea and Chocolate Chip Cookie for DH (sorry he couldn’t wait ;)) Latte and Banana Bread for me. The Banana Bread was very good and DH was very happy to get a ‘decent cup of tea’

We continued around the park, getting shot at by Aliens, attacked by a Great White Shark, and chased by a Mummy before DH decided he was hungry

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0300-1.jpg

Nathan's ‘Slaw Dog With Cheese & Fries

This was the messiest thing to eat ever. I nearly borrowed a bib from the family on the next table .

You can’t really see in the picture but the fries were big, crinkle cut ones. He really enjoyed this lunch and there is a nice spot to sit nearby that overlooks the water at the Jaws ride so it was a welcome break. DH also picked up a Coke and I had a Beer.

After an afternoon of returning to our favourite rides and checking out the shows we stopped off at the ‘Beverly Hills Boulangerie’ for a snack

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0314-1.jpg

Blueberry Cheesecake

We shared the Cheesecake and it was lovely. I also picked up a Cappuccino. The coffee at both of the Universal parks is really good and you get a decent sized cup (Disney please take note)

Having visited Universal a few times over the years one of the most noticeable changes on this trip was the friendly, helpful and happy staff :) I always used to think that this was one of the areas in which Universal was lacking but it seems that they have put much more emphasis on customer service and this was certainly reflected in the attitudes of everyone we met who worked in the parks.

Big thumbs up to Universal for this :thumbsup2

Coming Up Next ……………… Dinner at Charlie’s Steakhouse

Does DF like the waterparks ?, Winter Summerland is very close to Blizzard Beach so perhaps you could bribe him with that

The problem is we only use Disney transportation so to get from a resort to mini-golf is arduous so he would rather not do it at all!

Glad to see pics of some US/IOA food as we will be going there for the first time in a long time during our September trip!

Winter Summer Land is right next to Blizzard Beach. There are busses to BB from all the resorts. It should be easy!

Great Universal update, Linda!

Rip Ride RockIt is quite a ride, isn't it? We only got to ride it once in August as the lines (still pre-official opening) were HUUUUUUGE!!! But I am really looking forward to go again in 2011!
Don't you just love that there is a Starbuck's on Universal property! At least some decent stuff - the one Disney offers is "undrinkable"! :lmao: (We come from a country where there are LOADS of coffee houses and we have a WIDE variety of coffees and the US stuff you get in restaurants is just not for us! ;)

Good to know that the crowds were low and the staff friendly - not so during the summer months. Crowds HUGE - staff overworked and couldn't care less. It's nice to hear that might have been the summer heat! ;)

Can't wait for more! :flower3: popcorn::

We saw British Invasion for the first time last June and thought they were fantastic! Thanks very much for the Mini Golf tip! I'm definitely going to try and fit it in during our next trip.

Hey all :goodvibes

Following our busy day at Universal DH decided that he really wanted a good steak.

There was a Charlie’s Steakhouse right next to our hotel and it seemed to be packed every night so we took that as a good sign

We stopped in on the way back to our room to see if we could reserve a table for later and it’s a good job we did as when we arrived customers were being told it was a 45 – 60 minute wait

As soon as we had checked in we were taken to a nice little booth and handed our menus

Whilst we were checking out the menus our server arrived to introduce herself and take our drink orders.

I had noticed when we were checking in that they had a ‘Cocktail Of The Day’ so it was an easy decision for me

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0327-1.jpg

Hawaiian Margarita

Sorry guys, I cannot for the life of me remember what was in it (note to self, take notebook with you on next trip) our server mixed it at our table and it was totally delicious :cloud9:

Now quite obviously if you enjoy steak this is the place to come. Our server brought a trolley round to our table that was covered (and I mean covered) in the various cuts of meat that were available to order. I actually think that if you took the time you could have built yourself an entire cow from the contents of the trolley :rotfl2:

DH was in heaven and was drooling whilst deciding.

Having seen the size of the cuts of meat we both knew that an Appetizer wasn’t necessary and instead took our servers recommendation of bread and salad to start things off

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0329-1.jpg

Warm Sour Dough & Whipped Butter

This was soooooooooo good. It was warm and fresh and I could have easily finished it all

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0328-1.jpg

Charlie’s House Salad With Italian Vinaigrette

Again this was 5 out of 5 delicious. The dressing was superb and there was a nice sprinkling of Parmesan to add even more flavour

Now onto our Entrees

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0331-1.jpg

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0332-1.jpg

T Bone Steak – Medium Rare with Hollandaise Sauce and Gratin Potatoes

DH doesn’t eat T Bone very often so he really enjoyed it and through it was perfectly cooked. The Potatoes were also a great accompaniment

I of course don’t eat meat but there was a great selection of fresh fish to choose from which they will prepare to your request

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0333-1.jpg

Halibut With Mango Salsa

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0334-1.jpg

Oak Roasted Vegetables

The fish was perfectly cooked but I think I should have chosen something other that the Mango Salsa to go with it. Don’t get me wrong this was a good dish but it was not packed full of flavour and just need a little ‘something’ adding

The Vegetables were just roasted peppers which were OK but I thought you would get more variety

I ordered a glass of Conundrum to go with my Entrée and really enjoyed it

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0330-1.jpg

Overall we both enjoyed Charlie’s but it was a bigger hit for DH than me. I guess that’s to be expected really as you really only come here to order a steak

popcorn::popcorn::popcorn::popcorn:: out of popcorn::popcorn::popcorn::popcorn::popcorn:: for me (DH would give it five)

Coming up ……………… A Day In The Wilderness

Wow, the sun is shining in London today and it looks like it’s going to stay for the weekend :cheer2:

Today was a really early start for us as we were booked onto the Fort Wilderness Segway Tour at 8.30am

I grabbed my coffee from the lobby and we jumped straight in the car:drive:

It turns out we were the only two guests today so we ended up with a private tour :thumbsup2 Now I know this report is all about the food but this tour was one of the highlights of our vacation and I would highly recommend doing it. The area around Fort Wilderness and Wilderness Lodge is beautiful and so peaceful. We saw Deer, Butterflies, Birds, Lizards and even an Armadillo :yay:

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0340-1.jpg

'This is going to ruin my hair'

Anyway let’s get on with what you are all here for ……….

Once our tour was over we decided to head over to the Wilderness Lodge to get something to eat.

We had our first ever look at this beautiful resort on our Segway tour and really wanted to take a look at the rest of it

Just another quick diversion …………… we just fell in love with this resort and have decided that this is where we are going to stay when we are back in the World next year

After looking around the grounds we stumbled across Roaring Forks and headed straight in. I particularly liked the look of the menu in here and the salads that they were preparing for other guests looked really good.

Here is what we eventually decided on

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0345-1.jpg

Cheese Flatbread and Coke for DH

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0347-1.jpg

Grilled Vegetable Sandwich With Red Pepper Hummus, Lemon Vinaigrette and Pasta Salad and Milk to drink for me

We sat outside overlooking the pool and really enjoyed this lunch.

Everything was made to order so was very fresh and tasty. DH loved his Flatbread and the sandwich was wonderful, it was so full of flavour and during every step of the preparation the CM would ask me what I wanted to add and how much of it I wanted to add so it was exactly what I wanted. If we hadn’t already decided that this was the resort for us then this sealed the deal :cloud9:

We didn’t have too many plans for the afternoon as we had a wonderful evening to look forward to. We decided to do some shopping and head back to the hotel but not before stopping off at Friendly’s for some ice cream

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0352-1.jpg

Butterfinger Sundae for DH

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0353-1.jpg

Mint Choc Chip & Vanilla Scoop for me

This was just what we both needed. So with my sweet tooth satisfied we headed back to the hotel to get ready for an evening at DTD

Coming Up …………… Wolfgang Puck’s Express & La Nouba

We really loved the Segway tour at Fort Wilderness, it really is much better than the Epcot one.

Glad you liked Wilderness Lodge, we stayed there in 2008 and fell in love with the place. Was hoping to stay there in August but we decided to go back to Boardwalk Villas. We will definitely go back though :thumbsup2

Roaring Fork is a grest counter service place, although slightly limited in options we found, after 10 days. Having said that, I could eat Disney's chicken nuggets/fingers every day and not get fed up with them

Morning everyone :wave2:

We were both excited about our night at Downtown Disney as we had tickets for La Nouba. Neither of us had ever seen a Cirque Du Soleil show and we were curious to see what it would be like

First stop after parking the car was at Bongos Cuban Cafe for a pre-dinner drink. We grabbed a table outside so we could people watch (don't you just love doing that?) DH had a Coke and I ordered one of these

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0354-1.jpg

A Classic Mojito

Mmmm, very strong but very nice :thumbsup2

After leaving Bongos we took a slow walk over to Marketplace, checking out some of the stores on the way

We were both getting hungry by now and after reading so many great reviews on the Boards we decided to head into Wolfgang Puck Express

Considering how busy it was in DTD that evening it was fairly easy to get a table here. I guess it's because it is tucked out of the way and most people don't even know it's there

We placed our order at the counter and headed outside to find a table. It wasn't long at all before our food arrived

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0358-1.jpg

Turkey Melt With Sweet Potato Fries

DH thought this was wonderful. I wasn't sure if he would enjoy the fries as he is not usually a fan of sweet potato (I love them) but he ate every last one. The sandwich was packed full of Turkey and overall this meal was a big hit with DH

I thought the menu here was great and had a tough time deciding but finally ended up with this

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0359-1.jpg

Four Cheese Pesto Pizza- creamy goat cheese, mozzarella, fontina and Parmesan with Roma tomatoes, fresh basil, garlic-basil pesto sauce and sun dried tomatoes

Oh boy this was good :woohoo:

I love goat cheese and there was lots of it on this Pizza. The base was just how I like it (really thin and crisp)

If you are looking for somewhere to get a quick but freshly cooked informal dinner then I would 100% recommend this place :thumbsup2

WPE gets popcorn::popcorn::popcorn::popcorn::popcorn:: out of popcorn::popcorn::popcorn::popcorn::popcorn::

Following our great meal we took a slow walk back to the Westside ready for the 9pm showing of La Nouba. What a great show by the way. As soon as it was over DH jumped to his feet to applaud the performers. It is just amazing what these guys can do :worship:

We were both buzzing after we left the theatre so we decided to get a night-cap at the House Of Blues before heading home

DH got a Coke - sorry I never did take pictures of his drinks but here he is with his beverage of choice to make up for it

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0172-1-1.jpg'

Do I get free refills?

I ended up choosing this

Hello lovely DIS peeps :wave2:

I'm not going to get time to post tomorrow so I thought I would give you a quick taste of Universal's Island Of Adventure

When we were planning our vacation we thought we would give this a miss (we've been several times before) but there was a fantastic offer on a two park ticket so we though we might as well visit

Out of all of the days we spent in the parks this was by far the most empty park we came across. I guess everyone is waiting for Harry Potter to open before visiting.

This was great for us as we could walk on to any ride at any time :yay:

After multiple rides on the hulk, duelling dragons and spiderman we needed a quick pick me up so we got a sugar fix from Seuss Landing

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0381-1.jpg

Oatmeal & Raisin Cookie for DH and a Choc Chip Cookie and a Latte for me

Yum, Yum, Yum ............ and great coffee yet again.

We continued our journey around the almost empty park, re-visiting our fave rides until DH spotted a treat that we had never tried

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0394-1.jpg

Churros

That's right, we had never had one of these delights before and we were always seeing other people with them so we thought it was time to try for ourselves. The verdict ................ yeah, OK but didn't blow us away :confused3

Now, I am going to justify our next snack by saying that we did have an ADR for a 'proper' meal in the evening because I have just realised that all we did all day was eat sugary snacks :scared1:

Next up on the sugar train was this

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0396-1.jpg

Original Cinnabon Cinnamon Roll

Words fail me .................. :cloud9::cloud9::cloud9:

Where have you been all my life? Yes people, this was my first every Cinnamon Roll (please don't let it be my last)

I also grabbed (yet another) latte from the Croissant Moon Cafe

Yeah, we spent a day eating nothing but sugar but ....

(1) we are on vacation and
(2) how the hell else can you get through 4 rides on the Hulk

Can't wait to hear about Kona Cafe!

And I totally agree with why you should be allowed to eat as much sugar as you like on holiday!

Everybody knows that when you go to another country - the calories don't count!:rotfl:

Mmm the pizza from Wolfgang's looks great! I think WPE is underrated, but it's a good thing- for all that food and such good quality it's only a counter service option on the Disney Dining Plan!

The cinnamon roll looks heavenly. Next time you go to WDW get one from Main Street Bakery in MK- it's even larger than a Cinnabon and is the best cinnamon roll I've ever had- only costs $2 & change!

Looking forward to hearing about Kona!

Hi Karin
I'm not sure if Cinnabon is a huge chain in the US (perhaps someone can help me out here :confused3) but I thought that they were delicious :cool1:
I hear that the Main Street Bakery sells a fantastic Cinnamon Roll so I will certainly be heading there on out next trip. Oooh I could do with one right now

Cinnabon is definitely a huge chain. In about every mall here in Ohio!! Certainly very good though, probably a million calories on a plate, too! I have not had one in years, and now I'm really craving one!

Happy Monday everyone :wave2:

Tonight we had a great evening planned with dinner at the Kona Café

Neither of us had ever been to the Polynesian Resort before so we decided that we would head over there early and check it out

After walking around the resort we thought it would be nice to grab a drink and head out to the pool area

So you may have noticed a picture of the wonderful Lapu Lapu in my opening post but here is a picture of me holding this alcoholic wonder to give you a sense of scale

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0398-1-1.jpg

Yep, this drink is HUGE ………….. Two hands are required at all times :woohoo:

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0399-1.jpg

‘Lapu Lapu - Myer's original dark rum and tropical fruit juices served in a fresh pineapple topped with Bacardi 151 rum’

The carved out Pineapple was full to the brim with liquid and it was quite a challenge walking out to the pool without spilling any

Note: If I had attempted to go and purchase a second one I doubt I would have managed this challenge

This was a delicious drink and although there was probably enough alcohol in this one beverage to stun a small Elephant at the Animal Kingdom, I decided that as it was served in a whole fruit it’s gotta be good for you right? :rolleyes1

DH had a Coke and we sat outside chatting to a lovely American lady who had won her stay at the Poly (concierge level) in a competition – how cool is that ?

As the time approached for our ADR at Kona, we headed back inside and checked in for dinner. We were handed a buzzer which started flashing about 5 minutes later and we were led to a great little booth table at the edge of the restaurant

Our server was soon with us and offered to take our drink order. DH just wanted some water and I decided on one of these

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0401-1.jpg

‘Kona Cool Sundown - a refreshing blend of vodka, Chambord, and cranberry juice’

Mmm, this was another great cocktail. It didn’t seem to be too heavy on the alcohol (just as well after my Lapu Lapu :rotfl2:) so it was a really light and refreshing drink

Before our appetizers were delivered our server brought us our Pineapple Bread

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0402-1.jpg

‘Pineapple Bread & Macadamia Nut Butter’

I know that everyone always says this but this bread and butter is just wonderful :cloud9: We really wanted to finish it all but knew that we had a lot of food to get through so resisted the temptation

Soon our appetizers arrived and we must have been really hungry as we had already began to tuck in before I realised I hadn’t taken a picture

DHs – appetiser ……………..

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0403-1.jpg

‘Pot Stickers - wok-seared duck dumplings with creamy ginger soy sauce’

I think that there was originally four or five of them?

And for me ………….

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0404-1.jpg

‘Lump Crab Cakes - with Asian tartar sauce and pineapple relish’

DH loved, loved, loved the Pot Stickers. He said that they were very light and that the duck had a wonderful flavour :thumbsup2

The lump crab cakes were very generously filled but I have to say I found the breading a little heavy. DH tried one and disagreed so it was purely a personal taste issue. Overall we were both very impressed with the quality and freshness of both dishes and the sauces we were given were the perfect accompaniments

Time for our Entrees – here is DHs dish

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0406-1.jpg

‘Pomegranate Barbecued Pork Chop served with pan-roasted fingerling potatoes and braised Swiss chard’

Now DH doesn’t usually get over excited by food but he couldn’t stop talking about how tasty this dish was and claimed that it was the best meal he had eaten all trip. It’s funny that the two dishes he seemed to enjoy most were both Pork (one at Boma and now this) He very rarely orders pork at home as he tend to find it quite dry (not a problem with either of these restaurants) Needless to say he cleared his plate

I decided on the Miso Glazed Mahi Mahi

http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227/Linda67_photo/IMG_0405-1.jpg

Miso Glazed Mahi-mahi - served with Asian noodles and baby bok choy

Everything was perfectly cooked and the fish was moist and delicately flavoured.

I love the taste of Miso but this flavour didn’t seem to come through at all which meant that the dish was perhaps a little under seasoned for my taste. The Bok Choy was well prepared and still had a nice crunch to it and the noodles were delightful

As always we were just too full to order a dessert which was a shame as everything that was being delivered to other tables looked wonderful

Would we go back to Kona? …………….. Definitely, the atmosphere was great, our server attentive and the food was fresh and beautifully presented. I don’t think I would order the Mahi Mahi again but there were so many other great options I would be sure to find something I liked. DH would certainly find it difficult not to order the Pork again and next time we will make sure we save room for dessert

popcorn::popcorn::popcorn::popcorn:: out of popcorn::popcorn::popcorn::popcorn::popcorn:: from me but 5 out of 5 for DH

We left Kona very full and very happy and did a quick loop of the monorail (I love doing this in the evening when it is quite) before heading back to our car for the short trip back to our hotel

Coming Up Next …………….. A taste of Morocco at Epcot

Just loving your reviews. I LOVE Kona too, that pork chop looked fab. The thing I find about pork chops is there is no eating on them as they are mainly fat. Did your DH find this pork chop to be different! It certainly sounds like a meal I would like to order.
