We have 3 cats.....

1. bangs on (hangs off when he's REALLY frusterated) the doorknob to go outside

2. drinks from the kitchen faucet and boars holes through toilet paper rolls (doesn't shread it, DIGS to the middle with his teeth!)

3. Has claimed one of our daughter's doll blankets and walks around the house dragging it between her legs HOWLING from 11pm to 1 or 2 in the morning!!!! We call it her blankie of course.

I have a cat that will beg. He sits on his haunches and waves his paws up and down until he gets what he wants. We didn't teach him this and I've had him since he was 4 months old! He looks like he is doing the hula half the time. He will also do this to point out when something new is brought into the house and he is curious about it.

well i guess it's not weird just really gross!! last night one of my terriers had a good size rat in her mouth when I went to let her in. She was so happy and wanted to bring it in the house!! All I could do is stand there and say nooooooooooooooo drop it. Luckily the kid next door was over and went outside and somehow talked my dog into droppong it. YUK!! That kid is my hero!!

Oh yuck!!!!

Of couse I can't really talk...my mom's siamese cat once brought a dead squirrl in the house. My mom thought my dd had brought over a stuffed animal

We have one dog that is scared of her shadow. She hates any sound effects or kissy noises you can make with your mouth. She shakes her head and hides under the bed. She even hides if you blow a kiss. Blowing is making a noise with your mouth. She's kind of nutty. If you want to give her a kiss, you can't smack your lips.

Remember when Pumba would run and knock animals over in The Lion King? I think our cat Cricket has watched that movie too much. He hides and then rushes our dogs. If he hits Holly (the shy one) he usually is successful. Sasha is sturdy as a rock and he usually has to just walk away. Lately, I have been shooting him with a water gun if he bothers Holly. Now, I only have to warn him "Do I need to get the gun?" and he quits with his ears back.

Sasha smiles by showing all of her teeth and shaking her head. It's her greeting when you come in the door. Some people find it threatening, but it's just her "smile". :teeth:

My baby sleeps with her "woobie," a furry stuffed mouse on a stretchy string. She carries it around before coming to bed, and before she jumps into bed with it, she makes her "fierce" hunting noises to show me that she's caught the mouse (again). She then carries it onto the bed, sleeps with it, and takes it out to the living room in the morning. She likes to keep it near her food bowl during the day, and sometimes puts it IN her food bowl.
She also makes "sweet love" to our stinky shoes, despite the fact that she's spayed.

Our cat carries drinking straws around in his mouth. He also fetches them if you throw them. For a while he was obsessed with my DD's Barbie's he would carry them around the house too, but I guess he grew out of it:rolleyes:

One of our cats (still don't know who the guilty party was) chewed the fingers off a couple barbies.

My girls used masking tape and gave them both "casts".:)

Even signed them!!

I have a zoo!

Mr. Red (cat I've been posting about) loves to eat ear wax. He also howls at the water dish. He used to chase the second hand on the clock. Tell me he's not a real goof ball.

I have two cats that hunt for socks at night. They will open my sons sock drawer, look in the laundry basket or on dresser tops and carry the socks through the house while howling (look what I caught).

I have on cat who is mentally challenged. She has hypersensitive skin so when she has an itch she will scratch it and then hiss and growl at herself for hurting herself. She has gone into seizures from scratching herself. We have to make sure she has no fleas.

My terrapin named Francis will beg for food. She practically stands up in the water for the food as soon as she sees me with the can.

We adopted our orphan kitty when he was only two and a half weeks old. I bottle fed him for two weeks around the clock. He's one year old now but is still bottle and nipple obsessed! If there is a baby bottle in the room he will go nuts trying to get a hold of it. If my husband has no shirt on he'll do anything he can to try and suckle his nipple!! He'll actually nurse as if my husband is his mother..

He also eats everything and anything. His favorite foods are cheetos, popcorn, green beans, and koolaid. He's a strange one alright....

When I was growing up, our family dog figured out that if he sneezed on people's food they'd give it to him and let him eat it. :D

Lucky4me, I'm glad that someone else has a pet that wants to nurse. Our dog is from the Humane Society, and I'm not sure how early he was separated from his mamma. Ever since I got to about 12 weeks in my pregnancy, he's started smelling my chest intently (he's part hound and loves smells), then he'll lay his head down on my chest. I guess I smell good to him. When I lay down, he sits right next to my stomach like he's guarding it. You never know when someone may break into the house and start hitting my tummy. :p

Sam, one of my 14 week old kittens, is VERY attached to his water bowl. He sits in front of it and looks at himself in the water and sometimes he falls asleep in falls head first into it. :p Then he looks around like "Hey, who pushed me?":teeth:

If my Lab wants to play or wants a treat shoved into his "Kong" toy, he'll pick up his toy and throw it at you. That's okay, as long as you know he's about to do it. I can't tell you how many times I haven't been paying attention and have been wacked in the head by something he's thrown at me. :teeth:

He likes to stand on the sofa with his front paws on the back of the it and admire himself in the huge mirror hanging on the wall above the sofa. He turns his head from side to side as if checking to make sure every hair is in the right place. LOL!!
Sometimes he wags his tail while he does it, other times he is dead serious. ROTFLOL!!! If he catches you catching him, he jumps down and burries his head somewhere on you as if he's embarrassed. :teeth: I just love him!!!! :D :D

My cat, Misty, likes to lick plastic bags. Mostly the ones from grocery stores, but she likes the plastic that things come wrapped in, too – such as toilet paper. But, she usually doesn’t do it alone, she needs someone to follow her around from place to place. She knows where all the plastic is in the house. I have to know, too, so I can cut the handles on any bags she might discover. We once had an incident where she got her head caught in the handles. Luckily, she wasn’t hurt, but she was traumatized for a few days.

She also likes to nurse on (or nuzzle) a stuffed duck. My nephew got it for Easter many years ago, and she latched onto it. It’s in a laying down position, with it’s head on the floor, and has long yellow “fur.” Of course, she won’t do that alone either – I have to sit next to her, and brush her.

Her brother, Otis – from the same litter – doesn’t really do anything particularly weird, but he will eat almost anything: peas, yogurt, cheese, apple turnover. He just wants a taste of whatever I’m eating.

Our Isaiah sleeps with his eyes open sometimes. His favorite spot to sleep is in hubby's lap. He will be on his back, legs straight up in the air and eyes wide open and he is sound asleep. Savanna's favorite game is to butt slap the other dogs. She will run at them full tilt, twist her body around and hit them with her butt. Of course, the poor target will then slide across the floor.

We have 3 cats.

Moly will fetch fuzzy balls you throw at her, as if she was a dog.

Olivia loves her water bowl and lays by it much of the time, even lays her head on the rim and then sticks her tongue out sideways to drink.

Leigha is just a kitten but has found the joys of shreding tissue. Kleenex, TP, napkins, etc. are not safe around her! She also sits up like a prairie dog.

My friend had a cat that would lay on its back with all four paws straight up in the air. They would then balance cards on all four paws, and the cat would just lay there and not move. I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it.

My cat won't drink from his water bowl. He only drinks from my cup (which is usually on my night stand) even though it's the same water that I use to fill his bowl.

He has also chewed out certain slats in our blinds so that he can see out. There's even one that he outgrew so he chewed the next one up out of the way too. We usually keep the blinds closed because there's just an alleyway & another set of buildings out the window.

Mina, my tiny Siamese kitten, likes to lick the windowsills. It's very weird.

She has claimed my Oogie Boogie beanie doll - she sleeps on him and plays with him. He used to be bigger than her!

Lao-Tzu, my black kitten, is obsessed with my hair. He likes to hang on my shoulder, totally relax, and purr while kneading my hair. He goes nuts when I brush it!

I have 3 dogs, all of whom do weird things I could go on forever about, but here are a few:

...they all know how to "knock" on the door with their paws to "ask" to be let in or out of the house. If we don't hear them, then sometimes they bark. On our back door, they scratch.

...my little dog has a really bizarre habit which we have affectionately named "The Sock Parade." Every night, just about when everyone's going to bed, she goes to the laundry basket and will pick out a sock or two and totally stuff it in her mouth. She then will parade around the house several times, very proud of herself. If no one is watching her, she starts to wimper. If there are no socks, she will settle for underwear or a bra.

...my middle "psycho" dog, suffers from separation anxiety. Before we modified our fence (don't even ask about that!), she was able to jump out and run to BFs mom's workplace, which is about 4 miles away!

...my oldest, and smartest, dog is kind of a grumpy old lady, while my other two tend to be more playful. If the playful ones are annoying her, she will excitedly jump off her couch and run to the door, attracting the other two to run to the door. We open the door, she steps out onto the porch, the other two will fly past her to run around the yard, and she will then make a u-turn and come back into the house to sleep peacefully on her couch.

My lab Jake's favorite toys are the plastic pots that shrubs and flowers come in. He runs around the back yard with a pot on his head and has occasionally bumped into stuff - I think he knows the layout of the yard well enough that he usually avoids the trees.

I have a yellow lab that is obsessed with blueberry muffins. She ate 8 of them once, got onto a platter up on a high counter. She also will bandit whole wheat biscuits that are in ziploc bags. She eats them bag and all, except for the actual zipping lock part.

I thought of a few more.

Our dog Holly puts her whole face into her water bowl to drink. She looks like she is bobbing for apples, and she drips all over the place when she is finished.

Sasha (another dog) likes to sleep with her whole paw in her mouth. If she catches you looking she pulls it out and looks really sheepish. She's always "sucked her thumb" since she was a pup and we think it's cute. Anyone else have a paw sucking dog?

OK, I have never had pets of any sort with the exception of goldfish, and the strangest thing they did was to try to leap to freedom. But this thread has me totally lol (and a little wigged out, y'all DO have some weird pet habits, do I hear David Letterman calling???:D :D )

Thanks for the smiles everyone

Our aging golden retreiver, Boomer, likes to "rearrange" shoes at night. He goes into each bedroom bringing in one shoe then takes another and puts it somewhere else. Needless to say, in the morning we are running around..."have you seen my shoe?"

Oh, the ziplock story made me think of one. It is weird but even more ANNOYING!!!! If I leave any sort of bread, rolls, pasteries on the counter the cats will jump up on the countered and chew through the bag so the can take a sniff or a taste of it  Of course they never actually eat the whole thing, but leave a big enough hole to make it go stale.

They also roll fruit off the counter. (They do both these at night so there is very little I can do to make then stop)

Patches, the blanket carrier also steals socks from the laundry. When she can't find one little girls panties will do. Once when MIL stopped by, there were some tinkerbell panties lying on the steps in the foyer

My cat is a food nibbler too, except he is very particular about what he nibbles. He opens the cubbard doors and if there are Stella D'oro biscuits in there he will pull the package out, pull a biscuit out of the package and nibble on it.

Wow, I loved reading all of your pet stories. :)

My cat Jack, who is the sweetest little thing ever, also tries to nurse.. except he does it on his own tail. We all think it's so cute but when we have people over to visit they always think it's really weird, LOL. He also loves hair elastics.. he thinks they have life of their own. ;)

My dogs have a fascination with socks. They seek them out from wherever we've hidden them and tear them up. Also feminine hygiene products.

My cat Paws "talks". It's the most bizarre thing.. when he's eaten grass or something and doesn't feel well, he'll open his mouth and out will come these weird little phrases like "erby derby derb". It's scary and fascinating, LOL. The other day I walked up to him and said "Hey Paws, what's shakin'?" and he said "hi" - it was so funny.

These are so cute!

I have three cats, also and I think the WEIRDEST thing they do is LOVE EACH OTHER!!

Every other time I had cats there was some issue! Not with these three.

Xena is the leader of the pack, she's the Momma and no one disputes her. Max is my sweetie boy, he is so affectionate and kind and kisses the girls all the time. He also gets up on his hind leg, puts one of his front paws on your leg and reaches up to your face for a kiss. He does this all the time! Aaliyah is my baby, and the others' baby, too. They're both possessive and protective of her, she's so shy and childlike, they just adore her!

I think if I went up in a puff of smoke they'd still do well as long as they have each other. My favorite thing is to see them take turns hugging up with me. No fights, no competition, they just take turns. God gave me three GREAT ones this time! :teeth:
