Depends where you exchange your $$. ING is a straight 2%, if you have TD's Borderless plan, it's 1.0152%

I asked at CIBC today what the rate was to purchase US $ ... I was told it was $1.03+ :confused3 but that happened the last time when I paid $1.07 and everyone on here was posting $1.04 or something. Maybe my US account is at the WRONG bank!

I am keeping a close eye on the dollar ... we're not going 'til November, so I'm not in a rush to exchange (but will if things start to slip). I've heard reports that it is expected to go beyond par and yesterday CBC quoted an economist as saying the Canadian dollar "has the wind in it's sails." Optomistic that this is an upward trend that will continue a little longer (so that the actual exchange rate is at least at par).

I am HORRIBLE with checking the dollar, but I need to exchange some money. I am not going until NEXT may (may 2011), but I am changing money over in small doses (like 200-400 each time) when the dollar is good - this avoids me spending this money and having enough saved up for my trip ;)
PLEASE keep me posted, or if someone is SUPER nice, maybe they will PM me so that it comes to my phone and I know....THANKS EVERYONE!!!

I just transferred $100 USD to my US acct at CIBC, it cost me $103 CAD.
The banks always charge for exchanging. But $3 is pretty good. I remember when it cost $120 or more CAD for $100 USD.

I am watching too. I am waiting to pay off our sept trip. We booked bounce back last sept. I am hoping the Halloween dates come out soon.

That would suit me just fine! We have to pay off the balance (HUGE!) for our cruise by Sept 1st. We have to wait for our tax refund before we can do it though, so it could be a little while yet. Keeping my fingers crossed for a nice breeze for those sails for a while longer...

From Yahoo! Finance:
"The loonie is expected to hover around the parity mark for some time but eventually rise above one U.S. dollar for an extended period. "

If you get the borderless package in conjunction with their US Dollar VISA then you pay $5 a month for a service charge but they waive the fee on the US VISA and give you the staff rate for exchanging money. I think there are some other benefits but I don't recall what they are. Good luck!

Dang it, lol. It just had to hit parity just as I was going to go exchange some money for my trip home next week!
I think I need to go ask Mickey to start paying me in loonies, lol.
