So I got a sony a230 camera and a standard zoom lens. I like to take zoo photos ,nature (landscapes) and lots of family photos. What else do I need?

Aren't the Sony cameras the ones that take old MInolta lenses? I think you can find some deals on those. My sister sold hers in a garage sale for next to nothing. I didn't realize it at the time, or I would have told her to ask more! Many folks just don't know this!

I didnt know this either. :woohoo: Im going to a local swap meet/ car show in july so Ill have to hunt. I guess I dont know what I need lens wise. I want to get lenses Ill use. I think I need one of those lens's for distance (telephoto? isnt it?)

My advice is usually to use the camera for a little while and see what shots you are unable to get. That will give you a better indication of what you need because what I might get for me may not be the particular type of lens you need.

well I just tried it for the first time and I must say, I need to read the manual! LOL. hey I found out a family member of mine bought some filters (non returnable) and there for a 58mm lens, and mines a 55mm. Is there an adaptor for this?

Yes, the Sony mount is compatible with the Minolta AF (auto focus) or maxxum lenses. It is not compatible with the older MF - manual focus.

A common kit is the 18-55mm that you bought along with a telephoto zoom like a 55-200mm or a 75-300mm. Or some people will go for an all in one like the Sony or Tamron 18-250mm. As was suggested you may want to just use the camera for a bit and then decide what you'd like to add. And being able to use the Minolta AF lenses can be a real plus in getting nice lenses inexpensively.

There are step up and step down rings that allow different sized filters to be used on a lens. One things to be careful of is when you're shooting at a wider angle (the 18mm end) you could end up with vignetting b/c of the adaptors.

try your local camera shop or look online. They're pretty common.
