I think I will be signing up for the 5 Star St. John excursion and it says you board the Leylon Sneed and head over to St. John.

My question - what is the Leylon Sneed and do you pull up and dock to get our or anchor and get off the boat? I'm a little paranoid about getting out in the middle and not entering the water from the beach area.

Any information would be much appreciated.

We did this excursion last year and it was great! So much so that when we go eastern again I will do it again. The leylon sneed is a boat that is an enlarged version of some type of shipping boat. They have a shower and bathrooms (and the cutest little dog) a downstairs with all the snorkel gear etc. The crew is great and gives a little tour type talk getting out to St. John (this takes quite a while)
Once there you have several options, the ship can not dock at the beach because of the coral reefs, you can either hop from the boat and snorkle there (or choose to swim to shore, maybe 75 feet) or do as we do and load into inflatable dingys and be shuttled to shore and snorkle from there. The water is VERY salty there and you will be quite boyant even without a vest on. It was a GREAT excursion!! Ann

Would an overweight woman look silly "hopping" off the boat. How do you get back on? Can you tell I'm paranoid?

We just returned from 7/27 Eastern and the excursion is the same as it was a year ago for AnnMorin. You get back on the boat the same way you get off, either ride the dinghy and climb aboard or swim out to it, which really isn't that far and with your life vest on (it's required), you have nothing to worry about. The guides are terrific and one even floats around on a surfboard assisting the snorkelers. You use a ladder to get back on the boat when approaching it from beach or water. Great excursion! You did spend more time riding the boat to & from than you do swimming, however.

I would not worry about looking silly- everyone does with flippers on!
