View Full Version : If you could pick the theme for the next resort...

The last podcast got me thinking "blue sky" about what would be cool for a new theme park. But as I was thinking, I realized that it would be more fun to design a new resort.
So my question for everyone... If you had the power to pick the theme and design a new resort, what would you choose?
Myself, being the Star Wars fan that I am, would love to see a Star Wars themed resort. Or even just theme as a generic spaceship.
How about you?

Haunted Mansion/Tower or Terror type "haunted" hotel! Without a doubt!

The one I would do would be a space themed resort. It could have a building themed like a Moon base, another a Mars base, maybe a ship or transport building.

I'd like to see a classic Disney themed resort. Something that combines the Magic Kingdom with stuff Walt did before the parks. :)

I would do a Deluxe animation resort - each floor would be themed as a popular animated movie. A Peter Pan floor, a Little Mermaid Floor, Nemo Floor etc.

I would like to see an all tech/future themed resort. That would require them to keep it up-to-date!!
or
A resort that was based underwater. Instead of a lake view, you could have an underwater view. When you walk down the halls you are walking in an underwater hallway. Very futuristic. You would go to the parks to "de-compress" :rotfl2:

:thumbsup2 Super awesome idea! :thumbsup2
I'd especially love to book a "haunted room" where various ghosts visit you in the night. Voices, cool air, paintings looking at you. I've got goosebumps thinking about it.

I'd love to see them make a pet friendly resort. Imagine walking by the rooms and seeing doggies and kitties in the windows!

The original plan for Tower of Terror was for Disney to team up with Mel Brooks with the thought of creating an attraction based on Young Frankenstein. This "Castle Young Frankenstein" would have featured a Bavarian village with winding streets to the castle with a drawbridge. I think this would make an awesome resort! You could have a Transylvanian vampire section, a German Frankenstein section, a ghost section, etc. All done in a not-very-scary Haunted Mansion kind of way :).

Muppets!
When I saw this thread that is immediately what I thought. How cool would it be to have a Muppet themed Resort. The lobby could be the back stage from the Muppet show. A pigs in space building would be cool. You can have a building themed after the Swedish Chef, one themed after Muppet Labs. I could go on and on. :rotfl:

That's exactly what I was going to say. Classic Mickey/Minnie/Goofy/etc.
Steamboat Willie, old time cartoons, Disney before it was overrun with princess and High School Musical. I have a feeling a lot of the older Dis fans would appreciate a resort like that.

I always thought the SAME thing...some kind of hotel based on tower of terror since that is a hotel! They could have the lobby be all creepy looking and have the elevators on it be themed to look old with the gates, and having to turn it to change the floor level, etc. I think that would be so amazing and just think of how well it would do on halloween? A good moderate..
On the other hand....
I think it would be cool if they designed a hotel to look like a castle and have princess rooms in it with canopies over the beds, candies on the pillows, make it themed to be the way you would imagine a castle to be...very royal. This would be a deluxe
And before CBR changed and added pirate themed rooms I used to think it would be cool to have like a pirate hotel with like boats everywhere and just very themed, but the updated rooms at CBR are good enough lol.
Cool thread...I like seeing what everyone comes up with! :thumbsup2

I'm selfish. I want an Adventurer's Club themed resort. With shows every so often in the lobby and/or lounge areas.

This would almost work in the Haunted theme! You could also have murder mystery-type parties. Well, maybe family friendly murder mysteries - if that's possible? :confused3

Nope. I don't want a haunted theme. I specifically want the Adventurer's Club back, with a place for all the displaced Equity actors to return to in the evenings. ;)

These are all great ideas! I would like a pet themed one as well. Maybe certain rooms for dogs, some for cats. Decor could come from the various animal characters in the movies. Like a 101 Dalmations room, the Siamese cat room like the cats from Lady and the Tramp, etc. The cat ones could have those climby things all over for the cats to explore. I would LOVE to bring my cats on vacation with me. Of course I would have to drug them for the trip and it would probably take them days to get over the shock, but it would still be fun LOL! :wizard:

This is exactly what I was thinking!!!
A resort that's totally princess themed. The rooms, the pool, the restaraunts, everything. And another that's completely pirate themed. With a pool with secret caves and a 'ship' to play in.

I like all these ideas. They all sound fun! But I have to say the space/futuristic theme appeals to me most. I've never stayed at the Contemporary, but when I read about it, I just feel a little disapointed that it isn't more "cutting edge" or futuristic.

Totally! I'm picturing the old spoof movie "Murder By Death" With Peter Falk, David Niven, and Maggie Smith. That would be awesome!

Grimm's Fairy Tales.
Most DIS parents would probably never read them to their children, not to mention stay in rooms with those themes...but I like them and think it would be fun.
There are so many. You could have a bunch of different rooms with different themes. They could leave a copy of your fairy tale in the room. The pictures could be of that Fairy Tale.
The parents might find the fairy tales offensive, but the kids would like them. So would I.

I would love to see deluxe Asian inspired Disney hotel - either Japan or China inspired - I think they could do a whole lot with that
I would also love to see a castle themed hotel with a royalty theme - as long as it wouldn't be too over the top

Let WDW finish Pop Century first. Here are some ideas for the missing decades:
1940's - "P.O.W. Camp" - complete barracks, barbed wire and guard towers
1930's - "Hoovervilles" - Each guest is issued his/her own cardboard box for shelter
1920's - "Gangsterland" - Al Capone's Chicago
1910's - "The Great War" - Each guest has their own trench to sleep in.
1900's - "The Gilded Age" - Replicas of the Newport, RI mansions

Something haunted/villains would be very cool, but I'm not sure the interest would be enough for that to actually happen...

How about a hotel themed after the old Horizon's ride? You would have a choice of "destinations" when you checked in; outer space, under the sea or mesa verde. The rooms would be built on different floors so that when you got off the elevator you would be immersed in the appropriate theme, which would be carried through to your room. Add some "virtual porthole" technology from the Disney Dream and even the outside world wouldn't intrude.

Maybe they don't do something like that because it's too much work to try and keep up with how fast eveythings changing. I mean didn't the contemp used to seem really modern and advanced?

I'd be there! Something like a spinoff of the haunted mansion? A big dark gloomy scary hotel where if you turn off all the lights off in your room ghost holograms come out and get you! You'd never be able to sleep! :rotfl:
