Ever since the lucky day I first discovered this site, I have been amazed at the number of people who use the word "loose" when they mean to use the word "lose".
LOOSE rhymes with GOOSE. http://www.wdwinfo.com/sites/family/boldblue.gif
LOSE rhymes with BOOZE! http://www.wdwinfo.com/sites/family/lol.gif
I mean no offense to anyone, I just felt I had to say something. Must be the teacher in me! http://www.wdwinfo.com/sites/family/read.gif
Happy Disney Days, everyone! http://www.wdwinfo.com/sites/family/jump1.gif

hehehe! This is too funny. I think that sometimes people get a little too excited when they're typing and all spelling goes out the window.... oh well... no one is being graded on this!
Happy spell checking!

Bet this thread finds it's way over to the community board instead of here....
Personally, the only word I ever spell check is FROM. I ALWAYS type FORM!! an entirely different word!!!!

Oh....and there is no "o" in Dalmatian.
While we're at it, the restaurant in the Polynesian is 'Ohana, not O'Hana's. I think they ought to put an Irish pub in the World Showcase and call it O'Hana's.

When I don't LOSE my Booze, I get LOOSE as a goose!
Do I get an A, montessori?
I respect your profession, but seriously, I think most folks are like me when it comes to these boards.....I type quick, don't proofread or spellcheck. I know, when I see an error in someones post, like the one you pointed out, that they're in a rush too...I don't think they're illiterate or anything....just clicking away....I hope people look over my ****oo's too.
I mean, geesh, this is a casual forum where we have abbreviations for EVERYTHING! If I have to worry about spelling & grammer to post here, I'll log off and actually get some work done where I get paid to listen to nitpickers!LOL

LOL Jennifer! Speaking of misspelling, notice how my name is spelled with one "n." Well, when I got old enough to go to school, I noticed that other Jennifer's in my school had 2 n's. I asked my mother one day, how come I only have 1 n. You know what she told me?! She said, "I don't know, that's how the doctor spelled in on your birth certificate!"
Can you believe it? I've gone my whole life with my name misspelled!LOL
Oh, and have you noticed that there are lots of Jennifer's on these boards?! Great minds think alike I guess!
And yes, deer, I will look over your mesteakes!

Hey I know it's normal to type quickly on here and make lots of mistakes. I know no one is being graded and it's no big deal. I do think that typing "loose" instead of "lose" doesn't quite fit into the "I'm typing so fast I can't spell" category and that the people that misuse the word like that on here, most likely misuse it in everyday life.
If I was always misusing a certain word, I would appreciate knowing it so I wouldn't do it anymore. It just looks and sounds really dumb!
I think it's too bad that Americans are less and less interested in speaking English correctly. Letter writing is a lost art, and misspelling and misspeaking are becoming more and more acceptable partly because of the computer. I am not an expert typist by any means, but I try to type MOST words correctly. I think it makes reading easier and more enjoyable.
Well, I'll be sure not to loose any sleep over it. ;)

I agree with everything you said...I really do. I don't know what's wrong with me, but I don't always type what I think. I find all kinds of little mistakes in stuff I type. For example, I'll be thinking "is" but type "it." Fortunately, since I'm in accounting, I don't do that with numbers. :teeth:
So, montessori, what do you think my problem is? I think I've got a loose wire somewhere between my brain and my fingers. A hitch in my getalong, so to speak.LOL

I simply meant the spelling error. Naturally I don't notice my own errors, who does?

cannot is ONE word
Hmm..my Webster dictionary says you can use it as one word or two.
(I spell checked this three times, I was so afraid I was going to send it through with a typo)

I will have to check out Webster. My American Heritage only shows it as one word.

My problem is typing too fast and not going back to check...
I always mix up the letters in "teh"
I have a ba dhabit of pressin gthe space ba rtoo soon :D
And i dont take the time to add an apostrophe to contractions or to capitalize "i" in the middle of a sentence.
i confess!!

what about too, to and quiet, quite, quit?
There, their, they're drives me absolutely crazy TOO!!!... but you know what.. I'm typing so fast and the font size on my laptop is SO small, I can't see the typo's until I push that little submit reply... Then the typo's JUMP out at me... thank goodness for that edit button... at least I can edit my own..
One of my professors corrected me the other day when I told my boss, "Yes, I brought the purchase order to the Business office" Prof said the correct english is "I took the purchase order to the Business Office" Only in New England do we use "Brought" instead of "took"... I never realized it
Hopefully, I won't hit that space too many times!!
Thanks for making me realize the little things and putting a SMILE on my face..:p

Am I the only one who didn't learn proper English in school? We never diagramed sentences & I can't spell to save my life! I think it was a 70s-80s thing.
Up until this afternoon, there was an it's/its mistake on the DIS home page (wdwinfo.com). Did anyone see it? Or the one in the DIS newsletter? That's my personal pet peeve!

I'm a fairly good speller but sometimes I'll see an old post of my own and realize that I typed your when I meant to type you're  I hate when that happens, but I don't type as well as I spell. I do know the difference in the two words. :) :)
