Off to a late start this morning, ran 3 miles, then put the first coat of paint on the bathroom walls. While waiting for it to dry, we have to go out to find a new shower curtain and some other bathroom things.
So its a new month, spring is finally making its way to some of us in the north-we are looking at a high of 80 on Saturday! YAY!!!

And another though provoking question for my Incredible friends:
What are some of your non-running/racing/walking goals? Do you want to further your education, get a better job, buy a DVC (hehe)?
For me, I think it would be to get my house the way I really want it. My yard is a work in progress, and I try to do a bit each year. I really want it to be a showcase, but time and money seem to be lacking to make that a reality in a timely manner.

I just wanted to say I'm absolutely in love with this quote. It was this quote that finalized my decision to run a Disney Half. There's no turning back now!
What are some of your non-running/racing/walking goals? Do you want to further your education, get a better job, buy a DVC (hehe)?
Well, DVC is definitely in the future but not overnight. We went thru a financial mess and went thru bankruptcy a while back so we're trying to get things on track financially, especially building up a savings with a minimum of $1500 saved in a year. We've also been remodeling our house for 4 years now and are almost done. That's a huge goal. Finally, I want to hit my long-term goal weight which will equal 113lbs lost. I lost 100lbs but some laziness and baby #2 and I'm at the 85lbs lost mark.
Veronica - Could you possibly put the team roster on this thread? I'm still learning names. Yay on the 3 miles! What kind of work are you doing to your house? We have a 2400 sq ft home on three acres we completely gutted and redid. We're working on the kitchen now (and landscaping outside soon) and after over four years of work, we'll finally be done!
Amy - Sorry to hear about your heel pain. I've had the same thing a long time ago but I'm of no help with what to do about it. Feel better soon... and kudos to your boyfriend for massaging it for you! I'd think my husband got some kind of brain damage if he ever did something like that for me.
Just got done with my run a while ago and I am feeling so great! I'll run again tomorrow and take advantage of DH being home to watch the kids for an hour!

Good Morning Team Incredibles! It looks like that Disney "magic" is working because we had NO rain yesterday :yay: and it looks like the rain has left today's forecast too!:yay: And crowds weren't bad at all yesterday....we'll see what today holds.
This weeks inspirational quote:

Love the quote Veronica!
I think for me my non-running/walking goal for now is to continue to encourage my 2 boys(18-tomorrow & 15) to make the right choices (college/career goals) and not to sell themselves short. I want them to believe that no dream is too big....shoot for the stars! Walt Disney had a "dream" one day and look where it took him....
Have an Incredible Day!

Veronica- You can just keep painting all the way to my house! I so need to get on that project this summer. We bought our house new 15 years ago, and we while we have kept it up, we are reaching the point that we need to start really updating things. YAY! for spring reaching you. We finally got spring this week.
ADPi- Wowza!! on the weight loss! I have a lot of weight to lose and you inspire me!! I am sure that you and your husband can meet your other goals too.
Mickey's #1 Fan- So glad that your are having a rain free/ tolerable crowd trip to Disneyland! Happy Birthday to your son!!
I have not done my walking for the day yet. I am having a hard time getting motivated to move at all!! I think I am going to walk on a treadmill today instead of outside.
For non-running goals: I want to lose my extra weight for sure, and I think that I would like to get a job. I have been a stay at home mom for 11 years now, and I was a stay at home wife for a couple of years before that. I am finding that lately I am more interested in working. I got married and had children instead of finishing college- a decision that I have regretted for many years (the not finishing college part, I love my husband and children!:) LOL) so I am not sure which direction I should go. Maybe it will come to me about mile 10 or so of the half!
Have a great day all!

Mickeys#1Fan4ever, I'm loving the NO RAIN, too. Of course, today is even more beautiful than yesterday, but it's a non-run day. Off I go to the gym for weights.
ADPi, awesome on the weight loss. And yeah, my boyfriend is THE best. Of course, he gets foot massages from his girlfriend EVERY night, so he'd better reciprocate sometimes!

I just LOVE both of the quotes that you used today... the WISH motto motivated me to do either the WDW half or the Princess half I have not made up my mind on which one I want to do
As for my goals I would have to say help my DH find a job because after 20 years of military service he retires in 22 days... also to buy into DVC... I just LOVE being there in DW and if we buy into it I know I will be going back more often then what we are right now

One goal would be to finish my economics undergraduate degree, and then get accepted into a PhD program.
I finished strength training for the day earlier this afternoon. It went OK. I was there for about an hour, but when I left my body didn't really feel like it had done anything. I guess, I should look into more difficult exercises.

Veronica, I love the quote and the motto. Thanks for sharing both!
My goals: I would like to lose 10 pounds. I also want to really enjoy this spring and summer with my kids and soak up every moment. My youngest starts kindergarten this fall. I hate that children grow up so fast!

Hi Everyone!
The quotes are great!
My short term goal would be to lose another 10 lbs before June 9th when DD and I go to WDW.Long term goals would be to get both DDs through college safe and sound- scary world out there.Once DD 16 leaves for school my DH and I would like to plan a trip.We have not done that since our honeymoon 20 yrs ago.
Finally the rain has stopped around here- time to get remotivated.
Could we make a list here of who is doing any of the Disney races in 2011 from our team? Is there one and I missed it in the posts?
Hey there Veronica could you add me to the list please?
Thanks Linda

Good morning everyone. The sun is shining here in jersey. I spent yesterday working on a quilting project. The morning was spent on the sewing machine and the afternoon was spent basting the quilt. Then over an hour spent on yoga. Needless to say I am very achy this morning. I am planning to take a walk this morning. I then have to do taxes and hope to put the first few stitches in the quilt.
What are some of your non-running/racing/walking goals? Do you want to further your education, get a better job, buy a DVC (hehe)?
I would love to buy a DVC but I haven't been able to talk dh into it and we haven't had the money since we are finishing up putting ds's through college. Only 2 more years and we are done:banana::banana:
We are also talking about retirement. Dh wants to go to DW for 2 full weeks. I plan to use some of my retirement money for 2 nights in BLT MK view.
Immediate plans is to get the basement cleaned and some projects done that have been sitting there too long.

Good morning, Incredibles! :goodvibes
Veronica, loved the quote and I always find the WISH motto to be inspiring. Just like I love my new mantra "I'm ready to be INCREDIBLE!" :cool1: They are all helpful for those days when I don't feel as incredible as I would like. ;)
And another though provoking question for my Incredible friends:

I'm just starting a nutrition class at our university to explore if I would like to become a registered dietician. This would be my so-called encore career. Let me tell you that my BA and JD degrees aren't too helpful in getting a BS degree -- I get to take college math again and chemistry 101! It is fun to try something new although they have changed alot at college since I graduated from law school 18 years ago.
I'm always ready for more DVC points but my bank account is not right now!
Did W2D2 yesterday and and survived so I think I am making good progress on my running goal!
Have a great day everyone!

Hello everyone! Happy Good Friday!
Goals outside of Disney races? Good question. I have so many little goals. My immediate goal is to get through this semester. I teach at a local college and this semester has been rough...very stressful. Outside of that, I really, really need to lose some weight. I wonder if it's too late to join one of those WISH biggest loser teams? I also need to work on my house, yard, and I need to go through my clothes and other stuff and give a lot away. I need to simplify my life! :teeth:
As for Disney races - the only one I have planned besides the Goofy this past January is the Disneyland race in Sept. I'll probably skip the WDW marathon weekend next January (for shame!) I've been there four years in a row. I LOVE this weekend. However, I don't have any trees that grow money yet and I really need cut back a little in my spending. I want to go back in 2012 for the Donald 15th anniversary and then in 2013 for the 20th full anniversary and then probably in 2015 for the 10th anniversary of the Goofy. Whew! Somewhere in there I'd like to do the Princess and the Wine and Dine. Too many races, not enough $$$$.

Morning everyone! This Friday is off to a great start! I got on the scale and I’m down 3.2lbs this week. All it took was to seriously log all my food into my BodyBugg and running three times this week has helped I’m sure. I kinda lost my mojo for two weeks but I’m back on track!
My mom is taking my son for the night and is coming to get him in 3-4 hours. It’ll just be me and DH ad the baby so I’ll have him watch the little one later today so I can run again and then I think we’re going to Red Lobster for dinner (no meat for us on Good Friday).
Susie – Wow, you just keep going back for those races, huh? I don’t see how I’d be able to come back to run every year. We live in Indiana and money’s just tight. I guess I’ll be running the local races… at least my first will be at WDW. What do you teach? I’ve also been thinking about doing the Biggest Loser thing but I do a weight loss challenge on my Moms Losing Weight board and I’m captain so I think it’d be too much.
Lisa – Becoming a nutritionist sounds awesome! Kinda a stretch from law though! I think it’s great! Congrats on your run. Oh yeah, how to do you DVC? Is it really worth it? We’re thinking of getting in on it within the next five years.
Dona – Quilting sounds fantastic! I never could but I’d love to. I used to knit but with a 2.5 year old and six month old, there’s no more time for it. I have some half started blankets and suck laying around somewhere!
Linda – I think a list of who is doing what Disney race is a great idea. I’m doing the princess next year. I’d be nice to know who is doing what so we can all meet up. It’s so far away and I’m nervous about it already!
Amy – If you’ve never stayed at the Polynesian, you’re in for a real treat. Me and DH stayed there for our honeymoon and, maybe we’re missing out, but we won’t ever stay any place else again. It’s like a Hawaiian vacation at the same time you’re taking a Disney vacation!
Kelley – You can definitely lose the weight. It’s just a decision you have to make. There’s times where I slip up but I just think of the alternative. I can get up and start over again and work to a slimmer, healthier me, or I can go back to 268lbs. It’s not happening. Just a suggestion, I would get a BodyBugg (what they wear on Biggest Loser) if you can afford it. It makes everything soooo easy!
I know it was done a last month, or sorta done, but is there any way we can do like a question and answer thing to get to know each other better? It amazes me how many of you are talking about putting your kids through college and here I am with one just out of diapers and a six month old!
Sorry to everyone I missed! I’ll try to check back later.

It's never too late to join a BL challenge! :goodvibes Please come and join us on the BL 9 thread. Information about how the challenge works is in the first post and you can PM me if you have any questions. Today is weigh in day so it would be a great day to join! This challenge runs through 5/14 and may be extended another week and there will be a summer challenge, too.

I figure that people will be healthier and happier after I've counseled them as a nutritionist -- people often don't feel so great after being a participant in the legal system. :scared:
We love our DVC. They say if you go to WDW every two years and always stay in a deluxe it will pay for itself. But since you love the Poly so much DVC might not be for you because there isn't a DVC there. When you are at WDW on your trip you should try and check out the Bay Lake Towers DVC -- you have little kids and might be hooked. :goodvibes PM me if you want to know more about it.

I'm glad for the information about DVC. That is an interesting way to look at it. We have only stayed in deluxe at the Poly for our 10th anniv. We have stayed a night at AKL as a gift from my sister and her husband for our 30th anniv. we love the camp ground, Pop and POFQ so maybe DVC isn't for us.
Good luck with the college math and chem. It is nice to go back to school. I have a master's degree but on top of that I have 45 credits over the master's so you can say I have been a professional student for most of my life.
Just got home from a 55 minute walk with dh. The air is cool but it got pretty warm while we were walking
THis morning we went out to get cauliflower for Easter. I was able to get it in white, orange and purple. I wonder what they are going to look like when we roast them. Tomorrow I have to make an orange chiffon cake and bake some chocolate chip cookies.
Have to go ds2 just got home from colllege and we have to talk summer plans.

Hi Everyone!
Spent the week in Orlando at a conference. The weather was sunny and no rain to be found. Orlando was busy with the Easter Week visitors. I did not have the opportunity to visit Mickey or Minnie this time...so close, but yet so far.
I have set a goal of cruising on the Disney Dream in 2011 for our 25th Wedding Anniversary. We cruised on the Big Red Boat for our honeymoon...:scared1: so we would like to cruise with the best this time around.
A personal goal is to volunteer more hours during the year at the Castillo de San Marcos National Monument in St. Augustine. I have volunteered for six years, but my number of total hours are low.

Wow, it's been quiet on this thread this afternoon. Well, I didn't want to run tonight. I really really didn't. But I did. Me and DH and baby Krys went to Red Lobster for dinner and I overdid it. I had like 1013 calories (that is way too easy to do!) so I knew I had to run. I did, and I'm glad I did. I'm down with Week 3 of C210K! And I'm over on my calorie burn for the day so I'm a very happy camper!
Dona - Roasted cauliflower? Really? I've never heard of such a thing. I'm very interested. And orange chiffon and cookies... I'd about kill for that right now (I'll be sticking with my frozen blueberries!).
Lisa - We definitely love Poly but we'd survive without it. I'm really excited about the new Towers as part of DVC. We can't afford it until all the remodeling on the house is done, probably another two years before we buy, but it's a for sure thing. DH wants to take advantage of more than just the trips to Disney... I'd be happy with Disney every year for the rest of my life!
Not sure if I'll be on much this weekend. Probably once or twice so I hope everyone has a great weekend and happy Easter if you're celebrating!

It's been a busy couple of days here with not much computer time, so when I went to the march thread, I thought, oh, good, it's been quiet, I'll be able to catch up easily. Whoops, new thread each month.
"In running, it doesn't matter whether you come in first, in the middle of the pack, or last. You can say, 'I have finished.' There is a lot of satisfaction in that."

Always remember the WISH motto: Dead last finish beats did not finish which always trumps did not start. WISH gave me the courage to start.I love these quotes, especially the Dead last finish beats did not finish which trumps did not start. I have a fear of being swept next year when I do the princess. Notice I said when I do it, not if I do it. The power of positive thinking. I was also thinking I need to get my speed up enough so that I will be able to have some time during the race to take pics with any characters.
I finished wk 5 of C25K today which was a 20 minute run!!! I am so excited to have done that. I ran 1.5 miles in 22 minutes, which gives me a 15 minute mile!!! I've been modifying the running sessions this week, and doing a little extra time, to get a little more distance, kind of meeting the time and distance in the middle of the program if you will. I think I'll continue that, and after next week it seem like it's all longer runs with increasing time and distance, so I think I might even be up to the 3 miles by the end, but it will take me longer.
My future goals- My short term goal is to get through the next 3 months at or below the weight I am now, and then really focus more on diet and try to lose some more. I am really focused on the running right now, and that is helping me immensely. I lost my mom last june, and the memories of last spring are beginning to come back to me, and I do not want to eat through those emotions again, and pack on another 15 pounds. I also have the goal to run my first 5K, and am going to look into one for early in the summer. A cousin of mine organizes a 5K in october, so I'm going to run that too. I'm planning a surprise disney trip for my son at the end of august too. I always find disney planning such a boost. I am planning to take a disney cruise for my 50th birthday in feb 2014. This summer, I will have that yard sale I've been talking about the past 4 summers and clean out that basement.
Lisa and Dona- you both amaze me with school and taking classes. I don't think I could do it. Lisa, who knows, maybe you'll find a way to merge the two careers. You are very creative. Maybe mediation for couples who don't share the same nutritional values. I like your description of DVC too. I always stay value, and go at least once a year lately. I had heard that if you are used to staying deluxe, that dvc would work for you. I always price out the deluxe packages when I'm planning, but end up staying value. One day, but I'm afraid I won't go back to value once I've stayed deluxe.
jess- Good for you for getting out and running after your dinner. That's hard to do on a friday night especially where you have little ones.
Susie- We'd love to see you on the biggest loser thread. It's been a great challenge with lots of support and inspiration over there. Never too late to join.
Dona- it's nice to hear you're bringing some things to dinner, but you aren't making the entire meal and packing it up to go to the inlaws this holiday.
This morning we drove to the park so I could do my run, and my son sat in the car and played and read. It's a 1/3 mile track, so I ran past him 4 times, and every time he saw me coming, H'd open the door and jump out and cheer me on, "you can do it, Yaay" It was so cute, and helped keep me going.
Hope everyone has a nice weekend.

Roasted cauliflower is the easiest dish you can cook. Cut up the cauliflower into equal size pieces. Put on a pan (like a cookie pan with sides), drizzle on olive oil or any oil you like, season with salt and pepper. Put into a 400 degree oven and cook for 20 minutes. After 10 minutes turn the pieces over. My dh and ds1 love it. DH told me that is the only way to cook cauliflower. The nice thing is that you can put it in the oven when you are cooking something else you may have to just adjust the time.
Kathy It is very nice not have to transport the entire meal. It is a little strange not being in chargge of the entire thing.
For those people who don't know what I am talking about let me take a moment to explain. Dh and I are fortunate to have both sets of parents still alive. Dh's mother is not strong because of health issues. One of which involves using oxygen at night. When mil's oven broke a few years ago they never replaced it since my sil didn't want to mix the oxygen with the gas stove (DON"T ASK) So for Thanksgiving a few years ago so that my mil could stay in her home I cooked the turkey at my house and brought it and other cooked things to the house 45 minutes away. Then we had always done Christmas at our house and she was too weak to travel we brought all the food to her house. Last year I did this for St Pat's day, Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Be aware that dh has 4 sisters but none of them cook. ONe has a great house and never turns on her stove.
I don't do it for accolades. I do it because my mil deserves a nice meal every now and then. My sisil's are not on my favorite person list these days but I keep that to myself and do what I can to help my husband. We start mowing sisil's lawn and fil's lawn in a week or so. Besides our lawn.
Off to clean the kitchen and get some things done. Have a happy Easter everyone.

Just did W4D1 of C210K which equaled 566 calories burned and 4.25 miles. I'm pretty happy with that. We're leaving in 45 minutes to have an Easter Brunch at my parents' so I think I earned some cushion with my eating today. I'm just proud of myself for getting the job done cuz I really didn't feel like it.

Hi friends!!
4.5 miles for me this morning in 52:14, 11:36 avg pace. It is so nice to be able to go out in shorts and a tshirt for a change. Its around 80 degrees here today, totally loving it.
Bathroom project is almost finished, just clean up mostly to be done. New medicine cabinets are up, new rugs, shower curtain and shower head are in. Towels are ready to go in the wash. It will look very nice when its finished.
I have been running around all day, we are trying to replicate a sauce we had in Jamaica. It was at the Jerk Center, where they have the jerk chicken, pork, fish etc. Turns out it is and escovitch sauce, vinegar based with allspice, nutmeg and hot peppers. Not sure if I got it right, but hey that is the fun of cooking sometimes. Making it up as you go. I'll let you know how it turns out.
Dona-I hear you about cooking for the inlaws. DH is an only child, and his grandfather is 91 (god love him!) and the only place he will eat is my house. So I cook all the holidays, but with restrictions. He doesn't eat ham, pork or anything with red sauce. So we get to have chicken, turkey or roast beef for every holiday. Tomorrow we are having the jerk chicken (we'll make some plain for him) and BBQ ribs. The weather is going to be too nice to cook inside.
Good work on those doing the C25k (or 10k)! I too remember doing my program (all on the TM) thinking, how am I ever going to run miles and miles? Well I did and I rather enjoy it. I just read an article in Runners World about meditative running (no ipod, just connect with your breathing and footstrikes). It is what I do now, and it was really interesting. I am also reading a book called Personal Record, about a girl who had zero interest in running and is now an ultramarathoner. Not a long book, but interesting.
Hope everyone has an enjoyable weekend and a fun Easter if you celebrate.

I kept going back to the old thread wondering why no one was posting - oops, new thread!
The quote you posted is great. I also love the WISH motto; when I'm having a crappy run, I just think to myself 'hey, at least I'm out here'.
Oh my, how to narrow down all the goals I have. Right now it would be to 1) keep on planning our wedding (and try not to be too stressed out by it) 2) hope to find a job for my fiance somewhere in the Mid-Atlantic so we can finally leave our New England apartment and buy a home. I love our apartment and the town we live in, but I'm so ready to own a home! I need a backyard! and 3) getting all the photography experience I can get so I can eventually turn it into a job. I am doing my friends wedding this summer and I'm really nervous about it, but they insist they think I'll be fine. We'll see... :confused3:
Glad to see everyone keeping with their fitness plans! I love to hear about people losing weight or making personal records. My fiance and I did a 4 mile run in the rain earlier this week, and I went out yesterday for a 3.1 loop and did it in 31:37. My 5K goal for this summer is to break 30 minutes. I'd say I'm really getting closer to my goal!

Good morning and Happy Easter if you are celebrating.
My son and I are going to walk to the park this morning, which is about a mile each way, and then I'll to w6d1 of c25k there while he plays. We are having beautiful weather here in new england.
Veronica- I'm going to google meditative running. It sounds very interesting, and I think I might already sort of do it. I don't use music, and when I'm feeling too short of breath, I really concentrate on my breathing, and slowing down my pace a little, and it does keep me going.
Have a great day.:)

Good morning everyone and Happy Easter!
Yesterday I did 6 miles in 55:15, a 9:12 pace, just felt like going because it has been beautiful here. After that did like 6 hrs of yard work only to finish the back yard.
This am went for a 45 min spinning class now I have room for pie!
Running yesterday I passed a women here in the neighborhood with a Donald 1/2 shirt on.I was like OMG! I went and found her after and talked, I can't believe someone in the neighborhood was there too.
Dona- I am going to give that roasted cauliflower a try!
Veronica- Good luck with your jerk chicken ,a BBQ sounds great
Mikamah- What a beautiful day for a walk in the park
Leeshiebean- You will reach your 5k goal for sure, keep up the great work!
Have a good day all- don't eat too much- that's why I exercise-HA!HA!

Good Morning and Happy Easter to Everyone:flower1: I finished W3D3 yesterday and feel ready to move on to week four. It certainly is encouraging to read posts from members that are on Week 4 and 5. That means there is hope for a non-runner.
Enjoyed a day of boating on Saturday. Atlantic Ocean is still too cold to swim in. Would have liked to swim to burn a few extra Easter calories. Heading to the beach this afternoon to soak up some sunshine:cool1:
Have a wonderful day!

mikamah: Wasn't it beautiful out today? Fellow new englander here! I'm loving this weather!
momof2minnies: What a workout this weekend! Awesome job!
I went for a run this morning and it was so peaceful out! Not too many cars on the road and I could hear birds - and a woodpecker! I ran through town and past maybe half a dozen churches. It was so nice to see everyone dressed up, and to hear the church bells was a treat for me! I ran a (very) indirect route to the church my fiance was at - 3.3 miles. I met him there then just drove home with him so we could do our Easter baskets! Anyway I am so excited over my pace. 10:08 miles - my 5K split time was around 30:26!

Happy Easter All!
Well the quick Spring Break trip to DL is past us now. Weather was awesome and crowds weren't bad until Friday. Fortunately on Wednesday & Thursday we were able to get on all the rides that the boys were interested in riding so on Friday we just chilled....we did go into the park so I could embarrass my DS that was having a birthday. My teenagers just don't like attention brought to them so I asked for a Birthday Button and made DS wear it....all day! It was a great time and at the end of the day he admitted that it was a great 18th birthday! Glad we weren't there today to experience the earthquake...that would have been scary :scared1:
I am feeling a "little" guilt though.....I'm reading and being inspired by all of you by your running & exercising schedules and how you are so disciplined and sticking to it because I'm now on my 5th day of NO exercise! And I don't know about anyone else but when I go to Disney I like to eat....all the junk food! But tomorrow is a new week and hopefully I'll get back on the wagon...exercising and eating correctly.
On another subject....my 15yr old DS is thinking about running the DL Half Marathon with me in September! That would be so cool for me. I've always done these runs by myself with DH waiting at the finish. DS loves pin collecting and has decided that maybe he'll run it with me so he can get the pin! The finisher's medal interests him...but he wants that special pin!
Enough rambling....I hope everyone has wonderful Monday!

Happy Easter everyone!
We had a beautiful day here in the south. Unfortunately, I didn't take advantage of it as I worked most of the day. I rode the bike yesterday for 20 miles. It felt like I rode 50 miles. Ugh! I'm so out of shape. Even though I did the Goofy in January, I really haven't trained much since and I could tell it yesterday. Tomorrow is another day and I'm going over to the Biggest Loser thread and signing up to lose weight. I'm ready for a change.
Amy Lynn - how's your foot and calf pain? Plantar faciitis and achilles tendonitis come to mind. You may just need to do some stretching exercises.
Alicia - you're getting speedy! Way to go! You guys ran in the rain? I get blisters so easily and unless it's race day, I don't do rain. I admire you for getting out there and getting it done!
Linda (Scuba Mickey) - I'm jealous! I don't live anywhere near a beach but we do have a nice lake in the area. Hope you had a good day!
Linda (mom) - great pace! No one in my area seems to do the Disney races. :confused3 How exciting that you found someone in your area who did the Donald. Always nice to meet fellow Disney participants. That's one reason, of course, why I come here. :)
Dona - your cauliflower recipe looks good. I'll definitely have to try that. Kudos for you helping and cooking for your ILs. You do it out of love and respect. Too bad your sisil's can't learn from your example. I have some like that in my family as well. :sad2:
Veronica - we need pics of your bathroom. Sounds nice! How'd your sauce turnout? As for meditative running, I'll have to read up on that. I only listen to the sounds of nature when I run. Running with an earplug bugs me so I really don't have much of a choice.
Jess - good for you for getting out there even though you didn't feel like it. I did the same thing on the bike yesterday. I got out there and it wasn't pretty but I'm glad I did it! Hope you and your family had a great Easter!
Kathy - 20 min run! Wow! I can remember the first time I did that. I was amazed. I mainly walk now but after I lose a little weight, I'll try to get back into the running mode. I know that I can't do 20 min now. Good for you! Keep up the good work!
Amy - GF, huh? I'd like to stay there someday. I love visiting there during Christmas time. It's always so beautiful.
Patsy - Sounds like ya'll had a good time at DL. Happy Birthday to your son! Good for you for making him wear the pin. :teeth: I heard about the earthquake today! Wow! I hope there was no damage done. Nice that you can have your son run with you at the DL half. I'll bet that once he gets that first medal, he'll want more! ;)
Melinda, Lisa, Stephanie, Lauren, Kelley & Tassma - hope you all are doing well!
Hope everyone has a great week!

Good morning everyone. Just a brief hello before I get ready to go to school. Ds2 just left to go back to school. The njturnpike is a mess on Easter Sunday so we wanted hiim to leave this morning. Since I had to go to school it was easy. He just left. He had packed everything last night. He must have been anxious to leave since he said he was up at 4 and came down and fell asleep on the couch.
Glad people are going to try the cauliflower. It is very easy to make and tastes great.
Had a nice day with my parents yesterday and we were home by 6:30.
Well off to work. I was supposed to have this day off but because of snow days we are going in. I don't know how many kids are going to be there or how many teachers we will have out because of premade travel plans.
Have a great day everyone. Off to dress and pack lunch before I leave.

Morning!
We had a good day yesterday, ate too much though. My sauce, well, it wasn't quite what we had in Jamaica. We are going to continue to work on it, hoping to get it perfected before our big 4th of July bash.
Ran yesterday, did incline walk today on the TM. I am back on the wagon, as I feel yucko, being as dehydrated and overeaten as I am.
I will try to get some photos of the bathroom up tonight if possible.
Back to work for me today, office was closed all last week, so today will be nightmarish. Oh the joy:rolleyes:
Have a great day everyone. Here is another quote for ya:

Good morning, gang! I really should have posted yesterday. I feel like I’m a million years behind on this thread. I didn’t run yesterday. I figured after three days in a row, I could use a break. I got my strength training workout in this morning at 6am. Not sure when I’ll get to run this week since I’m baby-sitting a friend’s daughter all week and three kids do not equal alone time on the treadmill!
Veronica – Hope work isn’t too bad for you today! I’m worried about work tomorrow too. Everyone was off Friday and Saturday, a slow poke worked on Sunday and no one is in today… and I’m alone Tuesday. Gulp! Post pictures of the bathroom! I’m excited (since I know how great it is to complete a project)!
Dona – That so stinks that you have to work on a “snow day.” We only had one really big snow fall in the Midwest this winter and it was over New Year’s so I don’t think we had any days to make up. My kids aren’t in school yet so it doesn’t matter to me but still…
Susie – Somehow I missed that you did the Goofy… that’s incredible! And a 20 mile bike ride isn’t too shabby by any means. I’m sure you’ll find your workout groove soon enough… can you sign up for the Biggest Loser challenges any time?
Patsy – I’m so glad to hear your trip went well and your son had a great birthday! And don’t feel guilty about five days of no exercising and enjoying that Disney food… that wagon comes around every 5 seconds and you can always hop back on it!
Alicia – You and your fiancé do Easter baskets for each other? That’s awesome! I never got one as a kid. Ever… I’m for a boring Polish Catholic family (and when I say Polish, I mean I was born there so I’m as Polski as they come!) so no baskets. My son’s first Easter, I thought baskets were stupid… now I’m into them, especially since my daughter’s been born.
Amy – Swimming in the ocean… wow! That’s something that only happens on really expensive vacations for me! We have Lake Michigan here but I rather stay away from there! Did you manage your run yesterday??
Linda (ScubaMickey)– I hope the beach was great yesterday. I wish… there’s no beach here! Phooey! Are you doing the 5K or 10K program? I’m on W4D2 of the 10K and it’s not bad at all… you’ll do great!
Linda (momof2minnies) – You did great on your run! 55:15 sounds great to me! I’ve never even run 6 miles straight (YET) so that’s just fantastic! I think it’s cool that someone in your neighborhood ran the Donald too! I looked at the results and found many people from my town but no one I know…
Kathy – How did W6D1 go for you yesterday? I think it’s great you can do it while your DS plays at the park. I have to watch my two like a hawk!
OK, I’m off to feed the baby, make the beds, maybe get some work done on the computer. Have an awesome day, everyone!

Ok friends, I am in a bit of a quandry. I love my running. It is my passion, it is MY thing. I feel so good when I run. And I want to do better every time I go out and run (even though I know it doesn't always happen that way).
I usually run 3-4 3 mile runs each week and 1 long run on Sundays. The Sunday runs have been with my inlaws. Here is where the problem comes in. My MIL (DH's stepmother), who trains but won't race, makes all the decisions about where and when we run (when we are actually training, she does follow the schedule for distances at least). So what usually happens is that on Saturday night, my FIL will call and tell me this is where and what time we are running tomorrow. And I think I have finally had it. It would be nice if we could come to some compromise on time/place. I have talked to DH about it and his take is this:
It is your running. Do what is best for you. Tell them (FIL and MIL) where and when you will be out and if you see them, you see them.
I agree with him, but at the same time, I don't want to cause problems and quite frankly I need those training partners. As an aside, MIL and FIL are still married but separated (haven't lived together in 13 years). They do a lot together and are involved with our daughter.
So do I follow DH's advice (which I am leaning towards) and run on my own, or do I suck it up and just run with them? I have tried talking to them about this before, but FIL just laughs and says its easier to do what she wants instead of arguing. MIL just gets defensive and b!tchy, and makes the runs miserable.
Sorry for the rant, but it is really bugging me. They couldn't understand why I didn't run with them yesterday (oh I'm sorry I have to cook you people dinner, no time to go out with you at 8:30 to run then come home, shower and cook dinner for 2pm).

Veronica, I'm a little confused. Are you wanting to run some by yourself and run with them occassionally or are you just wanting to choose the time and place every now and then instead of them always choosing it? In either case, I'd try talking to them again about this. Just tell them you'd like to take turns deciding on the place and time. If they balk, then tell them not to be offended if you decide to go out on your own at times (basically what your DH told you to say). Of course, you can try softening the situation by first telling them how much you appreciate them running with you, blah, blah, blah.
Another approach, and a little sneaky, call them on Thursday and Friday night and tell them about the run you would like to do on Sunday. If they balk, then say you'll meet up with them the next week. ;)
Good luck!

I don't really want to run alone on the long runs, as that is when I really need them. The short weekday runs I have to do alone as I do them before work. (5:30 am)
It would be nice to be asked not just be told (like I'm a little kid). Its just frustrating. They have a tendency to treat me like I'm not serious about running, though you would think 2 Disney races in one year might clue them in.
I like the idea of calling and telling them what I want to do, see if they want to do that. I don't want to decide every time, that is not fair, but I think everyone having a say would be more fair.

Good morning, everyone! Well, today is go to work day... been here since 5:30 and it's going to be a busy one. Just wanted to stop in for a few minutes before things go nuts.
So I didn't get a run in yesterday but I knew I wouldn't. I got my strength training in though. Today is usually my day off from working out but I really want to get a run in. Not sure how that'll work out with the kids. I don't have a jogging stroller yet, just a regular double stroller. Does anyone know how feasible running is with a regular stroller (besides the fact that I'll probably look stupid)?
Veronica - I would definitely make suggestions to your ILs and see what comes of it. It'd only be fair for everyone to pick a route and alternate. It's nice to have someone to run with but that's annoying. If they can't compromise every now and then, hoof it solo... you gotta do what's best for you!

Good morning incredibles!! I wish I've had more time on the computer to keep up here too. I'm planning an august trip, and have been wasting way too much time reading all the posts on the code board of people waiting for free dining. It is addicting. I'm going either way, and stay value, so I know I'll get a hotel, but sometimes I can't pull myself away from the debating threads.
I did my easter morning c25k run/walk, and tomorrow will be w6d2, which is the last interval walk/run session, and then it's at least 25 mintues 3 days a week, which sounds daunting, but I can to it. We went to the park last night and played some tennis, which we're not very good at, so there's lots of running involved to get the ball. There's three courts, and luckily we were the only ones there, so we played on all 3.
Alicia- The weather has been amazing the past few days, and 80s tomorrow!! I think we might pack a picnic supper tomorrow night and head to the beach.
Susie- 20 miles on the bike is pretty awesome. I am over 200 pounds, and never thought I could run, but here I am running. It amazes me, and I think when I lose some weight, I can imagine my time will speed up. I am amazed after I finish each day that I actually did it. You'll get back out there. You'll love the BL challenge, so many inspiring and supportive people over there too. I feel so blessed to have found WISH, and know I'm not alone in this journey.
Veronica- I agree with the others to try and talk to them again. It sounds like your fil would be agreeable to anything, maybe if you talked to him first, and tried to get some support from him when you approached your mil it would be easier. It's hard, I can see you don't want to cause any rifts, but you deserve to have a say too.
Jess- I am lucky, it is easy for me to let my son play at the park because he's 8. Yours are still so young. Those toddler years are so draining, because you can't leave them alone for a minute. They are adorable years though.
Patsy- Glad you had a nice trip to DL. I love to eat at disney too, and pretty much have whatever I want, and have found if i get right back to healthy eating when I get back, the damage of a pound or two is gone quickly, but if I stay eating in vacation mode, I get in trouble. That would be so awesome if you son runs the half marathon with you.
Hope everyone has a nice day. I'm off to work now.

Hello, everyone! I am trying to catch up with all of your weekend events. My husband and I went to Philadelphia on Friday for a weekend getaway. He had three free nights at a hotel downtown, and we hadn't been anywhere by ourselves (that didn't involve him working and me tagging along) since our eight-year-old was two! The kids stayed here in Tennessee with my parents (they live an hour away from us).
We went to a Phillies exhibition game, visited Amish country, and saw the historic sights in Philadelphia. I had never been to Philadelphia before. My husband goes there a lot for work, but he had never done any of the tourist stuff. It was a nice weekend, but I haven't run since Thursday (and before that I hadn't run in over a week b/c of shin splints). So...I am going to try to do W9D2 today. I really want to do a 5K on the 17th, so I need this week and next to go well. My kids are out for spring break, so I am dragging them with me to his elementary school track. They have a 1/2 mile loop, so I am going to let the kids play on the playground while I run. The playground is in the middle, so I can see them easily.
Veronica, I think suggesting a route before hand is a great idea. If they don't go for it, you can decide what you want to do. It sounds like you are very willing to go along with what MIL wants. She should be able to go along with what you want sometimes as well.
Patsy, I nodded my head when you mentioned missing the earthquake. We planned to go to San Diego for Spring break, but we cancelled the trip because my daughter always wakes up early (and even earlier when her sleeping routine is different on a vacation), and we didn't want to be getting up at 3:30PT the entire trip. I am glad we didn't go. I would have been a basket case if we had been up on a higher floor of a hotel in San Diego! I am thankful that there were so few lives lost.
It's going to be in the 80s here today, so I'd better go run before it warms up too much! I hope everyone has a great Tuesday!
ETA: I got over to the school and wasn't able to run because the after-care kids were playing out there. Running on the track is only allowed when after care is not there. I didn't even think about them being out there during spring break. I understand the reason for this rule, but I am frustrated. Now I'll have to wait until after 6PM. I find it so much more difficult to run at the end of the day when I am already worn out, and it will be about 15 degrees warmer. Oh, well. I could go to the park, but it's much bigger and I am afraid I won't be able to keep my 5yo in sight. I guess I'll be toughing it out tonight!

Veronica I'm not a member of your team, but have been following alone since you guys got going.
This is what I would do....MIL calls and says we will run here at this time-if it works for you, run with them, if not say it doesn't work and run on your own. I would do the same thing week after week-sometimes you may feel that it is a good run for you and you go with them, and other times just say it isn't going to work for you. I love long runs and it gives me time to think about stuff and let my mind clear out. Hope it all works out for you.

Thanks to everyone for the advice. I think I will suggest something for this Sunday and see what happens. Since we aren't actually training yet (start on 5/17) its not as critical now, so perhaps this would be a good time to sort this out.
I'll let everyone know how it works out.
Tomorrow is going to be so warm here, unfortunately, I will be working so I won't be able to get out and enjoy it!
Great job to all the c25k folks-I can't keep up with all of you!
Another question to ponder:
Where would you like to travel most other than Disney?
I would love to cruise the Mediterranean. Especially Greece, Turkey, and Italy. It is on my list but we want to wait until DD is older before we go. I would also love to go to Hawaii.

Where would you like to travel most other than Disney?
You mean there are other places to travel besides Disney?!? :scared1: :rotfl:
Okay, seriously, we would like to travel to Hawaii and Europe some day -- London, Paris, Rome. Especially now that DS is older. We started dragging him around when he was six weeks old so he is a good traveler. :goodvibes
We also vacation every year at Lake Okoboji in Iowa at our family cottage that has been in DH's family for 117 years.
Veronica,, there is no easy answer on the in-law issue. I think you should get to pick sometimes but that doesn't mean it will happen . . . :rolleyes1
I'm going to be stuck at W2 of the C25K for another week. I went to the podiatrist today as I have some plantar warts that are being treated. They are stubborn so I got the Cantharidin treatment -- bug spit to make a blister. :scared2: I have some pain in the ball of my other foot from running so got an adjustment to my orthotics and my toe taped. The doctor assures me that I will be able to start my training again in a week and can do my 5 mile walk/run we are doing on 4/25 so I'm okay with things. I was amazed to hear myself quizzing the doctor on when I could run again and not wanting to put a big dent in my training -- I was thinking who is this person who is so worried about being able to run? Did the aliens kidnap me and I didn't notice? ;)
It is so inspiring to hear all of your stories and talk about training!

Other than Disney? I would love to go to Ireland. A few of my friends who are retired are going as a group in May. I wish I was going with them.
Dh never wanted to travel much but he has been talking about it a lot lately. He is pushing for me to decide when I want to retire. I will be old enough in May and he will be old enough in October. He wants to see Rome and Ireland and Alaska. He also wants to see spring training in Fl. But the best trip he wants to take is a 2 WEEK trip to DW.
This summer he is headed to Va to work the Boy Scout 100 Anniv Jamboree. I may go down for a couple of days and see the closing ceremony. I have seen the last 2. Got to see President Bush on tape for the first time and in person the last time. I am wondering if President Obama is going to be at this one.
Other than that we are staying home and doing some things around NJ. I would like to do some hiking. I have picked south jersey where it is FLAT. He has picked north jersey and the Appalacian Trail where it is definitely not flat. I am hoping to get the kayaks in the water a few times. I want to take dh to The Wetlands Institute in NJ on a kayaking tour.
Have a great evening everyone.

I've really been lucky in that I've been to some really neat places. I would love to go on a Med cruise someday. I'd also like to go to Japan, Austrailia and New Zealand. Also, a Russian river cruise. I'd also like to travel to all 50 states. Can you tell....I love to travel!

Hooray! I ran 3 miles tonight without stopping. I finished in 34:55. I know that's slow, but since I have never run three miles straight, I am very excited!
As far as travel is concerned, I would love to visit Hawaii and Europe. However, I would probably have to be medicated. I am VERY claustrophobic, and just the thought of being in a plane over the ocean for a long period of time almost makes me have a panic attack! The flight to Disney is only an hour, so I am brave for Mickey. :)

2nd, I'm right there with you on the needing to be medicated to fly to Hawaii. Actually I HATE flying so I have to be medicated to fly from Sacramento to LAX!! I really do have to take a small dose of zanax(sp??) to fly anywhere! I am a control freak and walking on to an airplane just brings on major panic attacks. I've come a LONG way though...I've become a "big girl" and can actually drive myself to an airport and fly all by myself:woohoo:
My DH was worried about me when I flew to WDW in March to participate in the Princess Half Marathon...he was afraid I wouldn't make my connecting flight!!
So, with all of that being said...my dream is to go to Hawaii. I'd have to travel at night so I couldn't see that I'm over water and I'd probably have to double up on the medication!:rotfl:

Good morning, everyone! Today's day two of baby-sitting for me. She'll be here soon. I got two miles in yesterday. I was bummed because I was supposed to get four in but DD woke up. I guess I can't be too mad because Tuesdays are usually my days off. I usually work out Wednesday morning and instead I slept in until 6:45. I needed it. Today will probably be my day off, we'll see.
I decided to add a 5K to my running schedule... May 23rd and then two weeks after that will be my first 10K. There's a race in July in Chicago that's right on the Lake Michigan shore that I'd love to do but I'm trying to find someone to do it with me. No luck on that yet...
As for my dream vacation, Venice, Italy. DH wants to go to Australia so I'll do that with him. I've been to Hawaii ten years ago but I would go again in a heartbeat. It's stunning and so different from boring old Indiana.
It's been quiet around here during the day lately. Guess everyone's at work, huh? I'll be around a little later and check in.

Morning ladies!!:flower3:
Lauren, great job on the run!! Hey don't think you are slow-I ran a 3 miler this weekend in 34:18, and I have been running for a while! Speed is not everything, just doing it is what matters.
No exercise for me this morning, I have class at the Y tonight. Hope everyone enjoys the beautiful day today!!

Lauren- Congrats on the run!
Patsy- I hear you about the panic and flying.I am also a control freak and need xanax. We were just talking about this at work yesterday, that is funny.
Jess-I have never ben to Venice but be very careful I heard that Venice believe it or not is very, very dirty. They have no sewer system and all that "junk" is floating along the canals you are in the gondolas in- EWWWW! Heard it from someone who just got back.
Veronica- Everyone has given good advice so I won't add to it.But "Hello"
Vacation other than Disney- That would have to be Florence Italy- Tuscany and Greece.I am taking DD18 to Disney for graduation and my DD16 said when it is her turn she wants to go to Italy- me too but how do I get there???? Long flight???? Oh Boy BIG xanax for that trip!!!
Will be 87 here today- lots to do then run.Have a good day all!

Wow! I'm impressed with you ladies! Way to go for getting out there. Slow or not, you're getting out there!
Linda - interesting about Venice. I've always wanted to go on a Med. cruise that starts and/or ends there so I could visit that area. I have been to the Tuscanny area several times and really liked it but never made it up to Venice. With it being part of a cruise, I guess it wouldn't be so bad as just going to that area alone.
As for a long flight, it really isn't so bad...especially on those big aircrafts. I don't feel as claustrophobic. I really am not a fan of flying. However, it gets me to where I want to go. The International flights seem to be better than regular U.S. flights...at least for me. They have more movies and other entertainment to keep you occupied. You can get up and stretch, plan your vacation along the way, and you get food. ;)

Lisa- I'm not too sure there's other places than disney either, i just keep going back.:rotfl: Sorry about your foot, but hopefully the bug spit:scared1: will take care of it once and for all. At least you'll be able to run again in a week. You'll do fine picking up where you left off. It is amazing to see that change in attitude toward exercising. The princess is such a great motivator.
I'd love to take my son to Ireland one day, I think when he's 11 or 12. I've been twice, and I know he'll love the castles, and seeing the farm where his great grandfather was born will be awesome. We have second cousins there still. We're planning to go to niagara falls in the fall, and I want to see the grand canyon one day. Southern california, is on the list too, but that includes a DL visit.
Fun question. I've enjoyed reading everyone's answers.

Another question to ponder:
Where would you like to travel most other than Disney?
This is a question with a never ending answer for me! I'm obsessed with wanting to see the world...
road trip across the US, or at least through the west/up the Pacific Coast Highway
backpack through Europe - it's on our 'before we have kids' list (Paris; Interlaken, Switzerland; and Munich, Germany are must-sees)
Morocco
Macchu Picchu
Antarctica
Adventures by Disney Africa trip
to name a few. Oh, and I'll need to go back to Ireland. It's a beautiful country!

I am the same way! I'm afraid to fly and get major panic attacks. I take Xanax or Tylenol PM before I fly - anything to knock me out. It was tough flying to San Francisco and to Ireland, but I did it! I even fly home to NJ/Philly by myself, but I don't really like do to it, haha.

Happy National Start Walking Day!!!
The National Walking Campaign has been all over the news here today.
I have also been very fortunate and been able to travel to many dfferent places around the US and world...Alaska, Hawaii, Tahiti (personal favorite), Europe, Canada ,Mexico, Morocco (not a personal favorite).
My husband and I decided when we turned 40 instead of a party the person got to select any place in the world to go. My husband turned 40 first and picked fishing in remote Alaska. We went in by float plane to a cabin that was mouse infested for five sleepless nights. Crazy experience!!!
Two years later when it was my turn, off to two weeks in Tahiti with ten of our scuba friends to dive Bora Bora and see the islands. A mouse FREE vacation!
As we approach 50 in a few years, the same rules apply.

I forgot to post what my 5yo daughter said to me last night after I ran 3mi for the first time. I often tell her stories that begin with "Once upon a time, there was a sweet little girl with blonde hair and blue eyes..."
Last night she said, "Mom. I'm going to tell you a story: Once upon a time, there was mom with pretty blue eyes. She ran and ran. She got better and better, and she didn't give up. She's awesome. The end."
That 30 second conversation was worth every minute of the 9 week program!

Lauren- that is so sweet I have tears in my eyes remembering the innocent sweetness the kids used to have.
Ran 6 miles today not as fast as the other day but I did it.I think I was dehydrated and it was really warm out- yeah!! Then did 6.28 miles on my bike.
Hope everyone enjoyed the day- time to make dinner.

Lauren, that made me cry! How absolutely sweet!
My DH ran her first 5k this past December and I ran with her and her friends (well actually we walked more than we ran). The last quarter mile was just her and I and I made her run it out. She kept complaining I can't do it, I can't do it, but she didn't stop running. When we crossed the finish, she looks at me and says "Mommy, how did you run a half marathon, This is sooo hard". I told her, just one foot in front of the other, and eventually you get there.

Good morning everyone! Well, I wrapped up week 4 of C210K last night. The run wasn’t hard but getting it done was. I thought I’d be alright if I put the baby in the exersaucer and put Thomas the train on TV for my son. Worked for all of 20 minutes. Then the crying began and then I had to nurse and that was only the beginning. My son wanted the Chipmunks instead of Thomas. He went into my bathroom (treadmill in my room, I locked us all in there) and emptied two bottles of shampoo, threw Uno cards everywhere and peed on my bed (he’s been diaper free two months so I have no idea what his deal was last night). Just awful… but I got the running done. And I’m taking tonight off. DH will be home tomorrow night so I can start week five right.
Linda – You are a total rockstar! A six mile run and then over six miles on the bike, that’s fantastic! WTG!
Lauren – Your little girl is AWESOME for sharing that story. I hope that one day my kiddos could see how far I’ve come. I’ve gone from 268lbs to running a 10K (well, in a few weeks) and they’re the ones who motivate me.
Linda (ScubaMickey) – I think you guys had a great idea for picking your trips and I’m going to tell DH about it. Granted, we have time… I’ll be 28 next Friday and he’ll be 32 this year but still. And I would KILL to go to Tahiti and Bora Bora. I didn’t think about that when the question was asked.
Vern – Hope your class at the Y last night went great… what’d you take? I’m going to try to sign the family up for the Y this month. I want to get my kids in swim lessons. DS can almost swim on his own and DD is 6 months on Saturday. She loves the water so it’d be great for her.
Just curious here: For those of you that do any running on the treadmill, what do you run and walk at? I’m at a 2% incline and walk at 3.8 and jog at 5.5. I was up to over 6.0 before I got pregnant. I’m going to do a 5K on May 23rd and have no idea what kind of time to expect but I hope it’s not much over 31:00. It’s been a while.

I run in Central Park, so not sure what the incline is. There are some pretty big hills. I'm averaging about 4.5 mph.

Jess,
My husband's Grandparents lived on a farm in Logansport, IN. I only had the opportunity to visit them twice there before they passed away last year. Neat part of the country!!!
We enjoy the birthday trips and like the idea of spending the birthday fund on unique travel instead of a party.
I just finished W4D2 of the C25K program last night. I think it is great you are running 5K and 10K races:worship:
I am not much of a basketball fan, but Butler did awesome. My husbands family all went to Ball State.

I take a Body Sculpting class that a friend of mine teaches. It really kicked my butt last night, I am tired and sore today, so much so that I went out to get a latte at lunch!
As for the dreadmill, I walk at 3.5 with incline at 6, run 5mph with no incline. I will tell you however that my TM is not properly calibrated, and that same level of exertion outside results in my running 10:30-10:45 min miles as opposed to 12 min/mile.
With race day adrenaline, you will probably be close to that 31 minutes.

Just posting really quick before bed...
I didn't run tonight and I really missed it. I got a half hour of strength training in and I'm gonna go for two workouts tomorrow... a half hour of YourShape on the Wii in the AM and then a run after DH gets home in the evening. I'll be starting week 5 of C210K. I have a weigh-in in the AM too so I hope it goes well. Wish me luck...

I just finished week 5 of C210k, so it sounds like we're only a few days apart... today I did W3D3... upped my mph by .1mph :) Sadly, I've found that listening to a club beat makes me run about .2 mph faster than the dis podcast.

Hi all! Sorry to have gone MIA, between Easter and 2 sick kiddos I have been in a bit of a flap these days! I walked 3 days last week and then didn't get anything done over the weekend. I have gotten back on the wagon and walked for the past 3 days though, so I am feeling better.
There are so many places that I would love to go- I would love to take my dh to France and Switzerland, he has not been to either of those places. We will celebrate our 20th anniversary in 2012, and I would love to go to Bora Bora. I am not sure I could actually get there though, I hate to fly on regular size planes, never mind the small one that I would have to take to get to Bora Bora!
Lauren- what a sweet peanut you have! She must bring you joy every day!
Do any of you use Nike+ iPod? I have been thinking about getting one of those to keep better track of my distances, etc. I don't wear Nike shoes, so I would have to buy a pouch to put on my shoes, but it seems doable from what I have read online. If you guys would give my some input I would really appreciate it!
Thanks and have a great evening! For whatever reason I hit a wall on the 3rd consecutive day, so I am taking my sore self to bed! We have been having beautiful walking weather here in KC though.

Where to travel other than Disney... EVERYWHERE of course. Places I'd still like to see... Ireland, Japan, China, Hawaii... Me and DH have been truly blessed by the military and have traveled a lot already in Europe (he currently lives 40 minutes by train from Venice, been to Rome, Berlin, was stationed in Germany, traveled to London, Paris, Disneyland Paris, Greece, and the list goes on). We're big travellers though so I'm sure it won't end even when he moves.
Any suggestions on a double jogging stroller. I want something that would work in the park, but also is affordable, we're on a budget.
I walked 45 minutes today at 4.0 on the treadmill, better than nothing.

Good morning everyone. Busy week. Yesterday I had 2 meetings after school, made dinner and then had yoga class. Nothing like a yoga class Thursday evening. It makes it easier to take Friday.
Don't have a lot of time. Just stopped by to say hello. Iwanted to tell you guys of my latest accomplishment. I have been wearing a pedometer since the beginning of the year and keeping track of my steps and mile since the beginning of the year. This weekend I should pass 500 miles since the 1st of the year. My step average for this month is well over 12000 a day.
Have a great day everyone.

For all of you new runners and walkers who are training for long-distance events (5k - marathons), there is a book I would encourage you to read - "Marathoning for Mortals" by John Bingham. You may already know about it. John Bingham is a former couch potato like many of us. In the book he takes us through his journeys of becoming a marathoner. The book is filled with humor, stories from other beginners and not-so-beginners, training plans, expert advice and LOTS of encouragement. There are quite a few of us WISHers who started with this book and still look to it for advice and training plans. I highly recommend it. One of my favorite quotes from John Bingham is:
'The miracle isn't that I finished. The miracle is that I had the courage to start.'
Good luck with your training! :cheer2:

Happy weekend everyone. Welcome to the incredibles Lyncecelia!:welcome:
I've had a busy couple days, and not enough computer time. I did finish week 6 c25k, and happy about that. I jogged for 25 minutes straight!! That is huge for me, and they had called me in to work early yesterday, but I didn't go in until 9, making sure I had enough time to do my run. I'm remembering back 6 weeks ago and I hardly ran a minute that first day, and now I so look forward to getting out and doing it. I guess I should say I look forward to being done, some days it's very hard, and I don't really enjoy it, but am happy that I completed it after. This week will be 25 min runs all 3 days, but I think I'll try to add a little distance each day, since I'm pretty slow. I can't believe I'm 2/3 of the way done. I was looking for a local 5k to do in june, and I found one in Beverly called the Louise Rosetti who is 88 years old and started running when she was 50, and she still runs. She organized this to benefit her daughters scholarship fund. Her daughter was kidnapped and murdered as a teen, and from what I've read this woman is amazing. I was thinking I wanted something to work towards when I finish the c25k, and I think I'm going to sign up for this.
Susie and Linda, thanks for the advice on that book. I looked for it at the library the other day, and they didn't have it, so I think I'll order it from amazon. I definitely need a plan for when I'm done with the c25k.
Dona- congrats on reaching 500 steps!! and a huge congratulations to your son on getting a job. What a relief that must be for all of you. He will do great.
Kelley- hope your kiddos are feeling better. I'm sure the walking for you is much needed and good for your head.
Lauren-what a cute story you dd told. Kids say the sweetest things. 5 is such a cute and innocent age.
Have a nice weekend.:)

Wow, not stopping by yesterday has really thrown me off! I’m going to try to get caught up. So I ended up doing W5D1 of C210K last night and it ended up being 5 miles. I’ve never gone that far so I was way proud of myself. I’ll do day 2 sometime today.
Dona – How exciting for your DS! I wish him the best of luck and I’m sure he’ll do great!
Susie – I ordered a copy of the “Marathoning for Mortals” book earlier this week and I should have it today or Monday. I cannot wait to dive into it. I’m glad you give it a good review!
Lyncecelia – Welcome to the team! You’ll love it here. And from here on out, step back from the Easter candy! Hehe!
Stephanie – I’m looking for a double jogging stroller myself. Getting on the treadmill at home is hard but packing the kids in the stroller and taking off with them would be a whole lot easier!
Kelley – I don’t have a Nike + but it’s on my birthday list for sure. Two of my friends have them and love them. I don’t have a newer iPod so I’m looking at refurbished nanos on eBay. I would only use it for running. The Nike+ seems to be a great value.
Amy – Wow, I didn’t realize we were both so close on C210K… keep me posted as you progress. I’m feelin’ it after yesterday, for sure!
So my birthday is next Friday. DH told me instead of him buying my something I might not like, he’ll let me buy some racing gear. Now, aside from my shoes. I have NADA. What should I get?

Dona-Congrats to your DS on the job! Wishing him lots of success.
lyncecelia-WELCOME to the Incredibles! Tell us about yourself! Inquiring minds want to know....
I will second the Marathoning for Mortals book suggestion. And the Runners World magazine. I am reading running books now, my current on is A Race Like No Other by Liz Robbins about the NYC marathon. I finished Personal Record A Love Affair with Running by Rachel Toor. A really neat book. I have a bunch more on reserve at the library.
I did not run today, as I had planned. I pulled a muscle in my right shoulder, and am trying to get that feeling better before I go out. Tomorrow I have a long (8 miler) run planned. WITHOUT THE OUTLAWS! I may see them out on the trail, but I really want to go long and I know they only want to do 3 or 4 miles.
I feel like I have discovered that I really do want to do more with my running. The NYC lottery was the other day and I thought, hey, wouldn't that be an awesome thing to do? And Boston is coming up, could I ever qualify to run it? I believe that I could do both, losing the weight first and training well, it could be done. The question is, can I commit to doing it? I want my first full to be Disney, but if I ran well enough, I would be comfortable throwing my hat in the ring for the NYC lottery. There is a local marathon that many use to BQ since it is flat and fast. Time will tell, but I have put those things out there, I will see where life takes me and if it takes me to The Big Apple and Beantown;)

Boy, this seemed like a long week!!! DH, DDog, and I walked two miles on the beach yesterday after dinner. You can drive your car on our beaches, so the sand is very packed. Love the ocean:beach:
Just finished W4D3 and did OK. Not covering much in the way of distance. Does anyone else find that day two of each week the hardest? Day one I am excited to start a new program, day three - I am glad I made it, but day two always seems like it is extra hard to complete.
Keep up the pace,

Just wanted to tell you guys that I'm so proud of myself! I put the baby down to bed this evening and DH stayed with Brendyn and I was going to do W5D2 of C210K outside... my first time running outside since before I got pregnant with Krys. Well, I mapped out 4.5 miles and was gonna do the 2.5 minutes walk/2.5 minutes run that the program stated but I ran the WHOLE thing. No walking at all! 4.5 miles running! I did it in like 48 minutes. I'd like to get that down but I'm so thrilled because now I KNOW I can do a 10K. I just felt like I could have run forever! :cool1::banana::woohoo:

WOW, that is super awesome. I'm very jealous!!! I did W6D1 today... covered 5.99 miles in the 73 minute time period. Not bad. I even liked the 3 minute sprints! Except the ones uphill!

Good Morning, Everyone! I was just added to the Incredibles Team, and I'm really looking forward to getting to know everyone here!
My name is TaraLee. I'm 31, married to my best friend and have a beautiful 3 (almost 4... :sad1: ) year old daughter.
My husband and I have just started changing out lifestyles to become more healthy... we are eating better, exercising regularly, and trying to be better role models for our DD. DH has lost almost 50 pounds since just before Christmas, and I'm down about 20 since January. I still have about 50 - 60 pounds to get to my big goal...
I've also started running... before this year I had never run a mile in my life, but 3 weeks ago I ran/walked my 1st 5k! My goal was 40 minutes, and I finished in 39:23! Granted, I'm really slow, but I finished!
Well, enough about me for now... Like I said, I'm looking forward to getting to know all of you!

:welcome: TaraLee! Glad to have you with us. Good job on the 5k, not to worry about time, you finished which is what matters. And the more you run, the faster you will get.
As for myself, I ran 7.5 miles this morning in 1:27, 11:41 avg pace. Not too bad considering this was my first *long* run since the half in January! I went out solo, felt good, pushed the pace now and again. Couple short walk breaks to fuel. I felt it was a really good run. When I got back FIL was waiting for me.:) They had run 4 miles and I had told them I might meet up with them. He walked with me for a bit and we talked about family stuff (he is doing his estate planning finally, working on long term care ins, investments, etc). I will probably run with them next week, since they are still doing short runs.

I have updated our team list, if I have forgotten anyone please let me know.
Stampinggoddess and lyncecelia-please let me know your first names so I can put those on there.
Also, if everyone can let me know what Disney events you are running, I will make a list on the first post as well. I know that many of you are running Princess '11 and some of us are doing DL '10. This way we can know who will be going to these events are we can arrange meets etc if we want to. You can also include any other races if you want to.
Wow we are getting to be a good sized group-lots of WISHers who want to be INCREDIBLE!!

Good Morning Incredibles!
Just stopping by to say HI :wave2: on this rainy Monday morning(or at least that's what we have here in No. Cali). It was a really busy, but productive weekend. Didn't get my normal long run in on Saturday, but I got a 4 miler in on Friday so I guess that'll have to do for my long Saturday run.
Welcome :welcome: to all the new Incredibles! Great to have ya!
It is going to be a busy week around this house but determined to make some exercise time....hoping to try a new bootcamp class today but I guess that will all depend on how crazy my Monday is at work.
Here's hoping everyone has an AWESOME week!

Hi everyone! I have to do a fly-by post as well. This is a really busy week for me. I work tomorrow and Friday is my birthday and then Saturday is my DD baptism. We have a bunch of family coming in for it and then a massive reception to follow. So I've been cleaning house like a mad woman since yesterday (and I haven't even put a dent in it) and I have a bunch of errands to do today. My mom and grandma come out on Mondays to stay the night and watch the kids for me when I work on Tuesdays so they're coming out early to help today. They agreed to watch the kids in the evening so I can go for a run.
So question... I'm on W5D3 of C210K but I just ran 4.5 miles straight on Saturday and was barely winded. Should i continue the walk/run program or should I start focusing on straight running and just up the distance a bit every week? Any suggestions?
Welcome to all the new incredibles! We're thrilled to have ya!

And a BIG INCREDIBLES :welcome: to our new members!
I just made my DVC room reservations for the Princess in 2011! :woohoo: Snagged a savannah view room at Jambo House. I will try to switch to the Beach Club at the 7 month mark if they have transportation from there, otherwise, it will be whatever DVC resort has transportation.
I'll be glad to be able to start running again on Wednesday. I also have a 5 mile walk/run I will be doing on 4/25 -- called the Spring Dash for our local United Way. The whole family is doing that one. I'll just alternate between jogging and walking, not worry about the time and just take in the ambiance of my first "race"! :cool2:

Happy Monday everyone! I have two goals for this week: clean my house and prepare for my first 5K on Saturday. Unfortunately, I am sick, so I am not making much progress. I started antibiotics for a sinus infection/bronchitis Sunday afternoon, so I hope to see a noticeable difference tomorrow. I need to get up off the couch and get busy (my daughter has enjoyed my illness--I've let her watch TV practically all day). I don't guess it's ever a good time to be sick, but this is very frustrating!

Well, I made it to the boot camp class this afternoon and I have to say....it was the HARDEST boot camp class I've EVER done! I'm just hoping I can get up out of bed in the morning and make it to work :lmao: I actually had to convince myself to continue on at one point. Mickey's#1 Fan- When exercise gets tough I do the same thing , I envision Bob or Jillian in my face and it sure works.
Lisah0711- My DD and I are at AKL in June for the first time- not my first choice but I let her choose for graduation. I really don't care as long as we are at Disney.
Time to leave, have a good day all,

Morning Incredibles!!!
Sounds like everyone is doing well with exercise.
Boot camp-oh yes I remember it well. DH and I did it together once, that was even more fun. DH is the most un-flexible, agile person around, so he looked so funny sometimes trying to do the exercises. Watching him kept me smiling, even when I felt like dying.
I got in a run on the mill this morning, weight is finally moving in the right direction:thumbsup2.
Keep up the good work everyone! And for our new Incredibles, please don't hesitate to jump right into the fray, we are a nice bunch of folks. Really.;)

Just a quick morning Hello to my fellow incredibles!!
I am on week 7 c25k, and today I ran 2 miles straight!!! It took about 33 min, and I was pretty happy with that. It definintely got easier after the halfway mark, and when I was at a mile and a half, which was the furthest I did last week, I just pushed, and really wanted to make that milestone. I am still amazed how much I'm enjoying this.
Alicia- I read your blog, and it was so helpful and inspiring for me to read. I loved your suggestions for people like me, planning for their first half marathon. Thank you for sharing that. You must be so proud to have accomplished that, and it was also good to knw that you got emotional, because I am a very emotional person, and know I will be crying at the end of any race.
MIckeymomto2, I hope you are feeling better soon, and up for your race saturday.
Gotta run to work. have a great day all.

Happy Tuesday Everyone:cool1:
Completed W5D1 yesterday and did not have a problem with the time, but my distance was slow. First time DH joined in and of course he breezed right through it. Just isn't fair. Weight is staying the same, but I have noticed a change in the way my clothes are fitting. DH is also helping me expand my weight lifting routine.
Keep up the pace:flower1:

Hi everyone. Well, I decided to kick the C210K program to the curb. I went for 4.5 miles again last night (in 52 minutes... is that bad?). I just feel like I can run a decent amount without walking, so now I want to increase the distance and cut back on the time slowly. I'm hoping to get another run in by Friday but I know I'll havta hit the treadmill... and I'm really loving running outside again.
ScubaMickey - I hear you on the weight staying the same! I've been the same weight for two weeks even though I upped the intensity or my running and everything. I thought I was about flawless but apparently not. Hopefully, we'll both do better this week.
Mikamah - Congrats on hitting two miles! That really is an accomplishment!!! C25K did wonders for me when I first started out running. I'm glad it's working so well for you! Keep it up!
Vern - Hurray for the scale budging for you (can your scale have a talk with mine, please?)! Your comment about watch DH being so uncoordinated made me laugh... my DH is the same way!
Mickeys#1Fan4ever - That is absolutely genius! Why didn't I think of that? I need to start imagining Bob and Jillian screaming at me too!! Got to remember that! I love that show. Me and my DS (2.5 years old!) watch it every Tuesday and when DH gets home on weekends, it's the first show he watches on the DVR.
donac - What a shame your DH isn't interested in DVC. It sounds like it'd be great for you guys. Mine is very interested.. .we're just very broke right now!
MickeyMomto2 - How are you feeling today? I'm sure you'll be feeling a lot better by your 5K and that adrenaline will help you on your run! Fingers crossed for you!
Lisa - How exciting that you booked for the Princess already! We're still trying to decide if we're going to vacation before or after the race. I'm thinking more AFTER now. We're hoping for Poly.

Good Morning, Everyone! Hope your day is prettier than the dreary day we're having here!
VernRDH - Congrats on the scale moving in the right direction!
Mikamah - Congrats on your 2 miles! That is an AWESOME accomplishment!
MickeyMomto@ - Hope you're feeling better!
ADPiSpaz16 - 4. 5 miles is 52 minutes sounds great to me!
As for me, I actually ran a whole 5k in 35 minutes last night! I do most of my running on a treadmill because that way I can leave my daughter in the playroom, and I'm pretty sure that the treadmill I used needs to be recalibrated or something because I always seem to be faster/run longer on it... but it's an AWESOME confidence booster... and the way I see it, I was certainly running (albeit slowly) for 35 minutes... not too shabby! And in other exciting news.... I've run/walked over 100 miles so far this year! Again, not too shabby!
I've signed up for another race in Philadelphia next Friday night... My friends talked me into it because it's supposed to be a fun party run... I should have done a bit more research on it, though, because I found out that it's not a 5k, but a 4 miler!!!:eek::eek: What's an extra mile, though, right?!?! I'm hoping to finish in 55 minutes, but as long as I cross that finish line, I'll be happy!
Hope everyone has a great day!

So DH is letting me buy some running gear for my birthday which is on Friday. I've been "shopping" online at work all day and picked out: a visor, Body Glide, a hydration pack, socks, shorts, a shirt and a sports bra. Now I just need to give him the grand total and hope he doesn't pass out! He should have given me a limit to begin with!! ;)
Tara - Hurray on your 5K time! That's awesome. So is the fact that you've done 100 miles so far this year. I'll hit 50 this week and I'm pretty excited about that! No sweat on the 4 miler. You can do a 5K, you can do four miles!
Amy - I dropped the C210K because I was able to do 4.5 without any walking. The walking part was getting annoying for me so I figured I'd take it out and then start adding some distance. I'm going to map out a five mile run and run it when DH gets home on Friday. That'll give me a better idea if I should go back to it or not.

Jess, you lucky girl getting to buy all that cool stuff!!
As far as your c210k, if you feel you can run with out the walk breaks and they are really more annoying for you than anything, then I say go for it!! Doesn't mean you can't walk if/when you feel the need. I do even during races. You will learn what your body will tolerate and if it says "whoa I need a little breather" then take it! Nothing wrong with that at all.
Keep up the good work ladies. I was thinking of my Incredible team on my way home today, when I heard (and cranked up really, really loud) my running song. Van Halen's Right Now.
I am glad to be the captain of such a great team!

Hi there Incredibles!
So....for whatever reason I decided that I wanted to do another boot camp class today....my thinking "different teacher means a totally different class"....well, it was a different teacher and he was even HARDER than the one yesterday. I've been so sore today I could hardly move! I used muscles in that class last night I forgot I even had and then tonight's class found even more :rotfl: My prediction is that I will not be able to get out of the bed tomorrow. I honestly can barely move right now. Just sat for 30 minutes in the hottub...didn't help! I know it is good to have a well rounded exercise routine, but gee whiz I think I'm gonna stick with just running!
Then the worst part was that I was so starved after the class I came home and ate a couple pieces of pizza.....a veggie/chicken pizza, but still it was pizza :confused3
So now I'm gonna curl up and watch the Biggest Loser!
Good night all~

Everyone is doing so great with their running!! We do have an incredible team. Thanks for the Marathoning for Mortals suggestion. It came on monday, and I can't put it down. It has so many great suggestions, and I like how he described what your muscles are doing when you over work them multiple days in a row. I also liked that his half marathon plans are 14 weeks, which makes me think that doing the princess in march is doable. He suggested running for a year before you train for a long race, but if I keep it up, I will have been running for a year at the time of the princess. I really need to work on my eating again.
Vern- thanks for being our captain. I loved van halen in high school. We went to a couple of their concerts, and I'm sure I have their albums somewhere in my basement too. :rotfl:
Mickeys#1Fan4ever- way to go on the second boot camp class. Now will you take a day off to recover?
roomthreeseventeen-Congatulations on your speed and your pin code!! Did you book? I think you should!! I'm very excited for you. Did I see you over on the free dining wait thread? I'm waiting for the end of august codes to come out. I booked our flights, so just waiting for deal.
ADPiSpaz16- Congrats on 4.5 miles!! That's an awesome accomplishment. The couch programs are good, but it sounds like the 10k doesn't increase the running enough for you. didn't you say a few weeks ago that was why you liked it, and look at you now. Nice work.
MommyTaraLee- Congrats on running a full 5k!!! That is awesome!!! 35 minutes is not shabby at all in my book.
ScubaMickey- Congrats on c25k progress!! Don't let the husband sailing through it get to you. We're all different and all need to work at a pace that 's good for us. You're doing great.
Lisa- So excited for you to have your hotel booked for the princess. I am so excited to do the princess. We will have to increase our speeds to allow for photo ops along the way with the characters. I'm a bit of a camera fanatic. If you have time, I loved reading alicia-leeshiebeans blog about the princess.
Off to work now. Have a great day everyone. Keep up the running!!!

Yesterday was an no-running day (I try to skip 1 day in between to protect my knees!) I did a core workout video for the first time... but I'm not impressed..... I still need to figure out what I want to do on the off running days. I know I want to do some weight training... the machines just look so intimidating! :confused3: Tonight, after pizza and gymanstics with DD and her friends, I'm back to running! I hope I can keep up the 5k pace from Monday... I may even get adventurous and move away from the wonky treadmill onto one of the others! :lmao:
Hope you're all having a great day!

I am still coughing some from being sick this weekend, but I managed to run 3 miles today (we have an air quality alert here right now as well, so that's not helping any with my asthma). I think I am going to go ahead and sign up to do the 5K on Saturday. If I was able to finish today, surely I'll feel even better by Saturday. I am excited because my husband has decided to run too. He has run for years, but never in a race. I think he is going to do the 10K. My goal is to be sure I finish my 5K before he finishes 10!!!

It is also less than 3 weeks until my students take the Advanced Placement Test. So much to get into their brain in 3 weeks that it is scary. This is not a strong group but I have known this since they walked into my classroom.
Some days I have been walking a lot. I am at 522 miles since Jan. SO far in APril I am averaging about 11500 steps a day. I am aiming for 12000 a day this month so I need to step it up a little as we go to the end of the month.
Yoga tonight and I can't wait.
Have a great day everyone and keep up the hard work.

I didn't oversleep today like I did yesterday  so I got to do my sprints on the treadmill. I was inspired by Vicky on BL having to run them for Jillian with everyone. So I decided I could do 1 min sprints alternating with 1 minute walks. Sprint speed was 7mph (8:34 min/mile:eek:) walk speed was 3 mph. I did 17 sprints, so it was close to 2 miles at that pace. I usually really hate the dreadmill, but this was fun and doing something for 1 minute is easy enough. Next time I may increase the speed on the running.
Weight was down today too, so it has been a good day so far. Hope everyone is having a good day and getting their exercise in.:cheer2:

HI everyone! Sorry I haven't been on in the last couple days. With DD's baptism tomorrow, I'm going nuts with getting last minute stuff together. I ran a 5Kon Wednesday and haven't run since. I was going to run today (was hoping to hit 5 miles on my birthday) but my legs and butt are so sore from yesterday's strength training, I don't know if it's a good idea! Anyway, I'll be going nuts until Sunday but I'll be around after that. Have a good weekend, everyone!

Jess, enjoy your special week-end with your daughter. :goodvibes
Lauren, hope that you are feeling better soon. :flower3:
Veronica, I am impressed with your sprinting and your weight loss! :thumbsup2
I was able to start running again today. :cool1: I picked up with W2D1 and did just fine but I hope I don't have to take a week off again for awhile. I have to figure out the water thing, too, as I got a little dehydrated and have a little headache. I have to carry my iPhone and there is no place to add water -- not to mention I don't want any extra weight! ;)
It is getting warmer here. I think I will have to take a page from your book, Kathy and make sure I run in the morning.
Does anyone know when they will be putting together an order for WISH shirts and visors? I'm thinking I could use some WISH clothing to help me run better! :yay:
Have a great week-end all!

Happy Birthday Jess!! Have a nice weekend with your DD's baptism.:wizard:
Lisa-carrying water can be tricky. I use little bottles, only 6 oz each. I wear shorts by Race Ready that have pockets sewn across the back at the waist to carry phone, fuel, water etc. I also have a spi-belt like belt that I bought at the expo in WDW. It has 2 stretchy zip pouches to hold stuff and one of my bottles will fit in the bigger pouch. I know some folks leave a water in/by the mailbox to swig from on the way by.We have also left water out along trails to pick up later; many runners do this and no one has ever bothered with our bottles.
MickeyMomto2-GOOD LUCK on your 5k tomorrow!!! Let us know how you do.:cheer2:
I can add b-days on the list, also those who are running Princess 1/2 or WDW half, let me know so that I can put that with the list too!!

Lauren ~ GOOD LUCK on your 5k tomorrow....you are going to do great
Veronica ~ I can't remember if I've answered this question already...but I am doing the Disneyland 1/2 and keeping my fingers crossed I get chosen in the lottery for the Nike 1/2 in San Francisco! The lottery closes at midnight tonite and I guess I'll know soon. I would also LOVE to do the Princess 1/2 again, but I'll have to make that decision when time is closer.

Thanks Lisa for the thoughts about grading. I have a bag full of papers to grade when I get home from a scout obligation I need to be at today. Monmouth Council is holding 100th anniversary celebration for boy scouts this weekend at a camporee. I promised to work one of the booths (popcorn). I told them I would help set up (I figure lots of walking and lots of lifting) and would stay until 11. Then dh wants me to stay and visit with him and the event for a while.

Thanks for the suggestions, Veronica. I'm on a clothes buying hiatus right now until I can get down into a regular size which should be in the not too distant future. I think as my runs get longer I can just swing by my office and have water there -- I don't make a circuit yet!

I ran my first 5K! It went very well. I ran the whole way (my only goal), and I finished in 33:29. My best training time for 3 miles had been about 34:55, so I was very pleased with my pace. The last stretch was tough, and there were a few more hills than I was used to, but I was very happy at the end.
My husband runs, but he has never entered a race. He decided to go with me to show support, but I talked him into doing the 10K instead of the 5K with me. He finished 3rd! I had to give him a hard time about going to support me and then upstaging me. :)

Good morning Incredibles!! Haven't been on much the past few days, so wanted to catch up. I missed my second day of running this week because I was sick, and yesterday though I'm completely better, I almost didn't go out and run because it was cold and drizzly, but I thought to myself, that this is how it starts, the decline, I skip one workout, then another, and before I know it, I'm not exercising at all. I've been that route before, and I will not do it again. So I went out in the rain and ran my 2 miles, in 32 minutes this time!! I felt so good after, and today I got up and did 45 min of wii fit. I want to run the princess half, I got to stay focused.
Veronica- Congrats on your time. It is very impressive to me. You should be so proud.

Love this quote.
Lauren- Congratulations on your first race!! I would say that's an awesome time!! Congrats to your hubby too. You deserve the Garmin. I've heard mention of them here, and one day may look into them. I use my very unofficial mickey watch to time myself.
Jess- Happy belated birthday, and a very special and blessed baptism to your little princess. Enjoy her special day today.:cloud9:
Dona and susie- Good luck with all the grading. Teachers are amazing and patient people, and we parents are so lucky to have you.:worship:
Lisa- Congrats on completing w2d1!!!! I definitely find it easier to run in the mornings. I have a little routine now. I have a chobani pineapple yogurt and a banana before I go. It's nice to just get out of bed and into the running clothes too. Then once I'm showered, I'm done for the day, rather than going later in the afternoon and taking another shower and changing again after the run. Good point about the heat too. With the warmer weather coming, that will make a big difference, and I'll need to think about water too.
We might go into Boston tomorrow and watch some of the marathon. Actually I think we'll go to the outskirts and see an earlier part of the race. I was supposed to work tomrrow but took the day off since it is quiet and it's school vacation here.
Enjoy the weekend.

Garmin is a GPS watch, they come in a number of models. There is a rather basic model (205), then the intermediate (305) and then the super spiffy deluxe (405). Using GPS technology, it will track your mileage, pace and time, heart rate too if you use the 305 or 405. For me, the best thing about it is that I never have to guess how far I have run. We do a lot of trail running here, and I cannot plot the distances by driving the car on it and they typically are not well defined on maps like on mapmyrun.com.
I have had my 305 since last June, and I am not blowing smoke when I say I couldn't live without it. You can set it up any way you like for the display; mine has my time on top in big numbers, pace and distance on the bottom in smaller ones. With a quick glance, I know what I need to know. The heartrate is on the top corner in itty bitty numbers, I really don't worry about that so much. But the most fun part is when you get home and sync it up to your computer. It will tell you do much about your run. I use the website Garmin Connect to log all mine, and it even has a player where you will see the graph with your elevation, pace etc changing as you move along the map. It is just so cool.
Amazon has had the 305 for around $150 for a while, the 405 is close to $300:scared1: It is bulky to wear, especially if you are smaller framed. But I am used to it now. Funny thing, when I ran at WDW, I could hear everyones watches beeping and kept thinking it was me! Must be a lot of us set up our alerts for the same thing.
So that is the Garmin, there are a number of other threads about it here on WISH, check out what others have to say too.
In other news, I ran 5 miles this morning in 54:54, 10:59 avg pace. Another good run for me. I was jazzed. The weight loss is really helping improve my running time, and that in turn motivates me to keep on losing so I can run faster.
Now it is off to do laundry, clean bathrooms and change the bed linens. Oh the joy!
PS. Kathy-good for you being INCREDIBLE out there in the drizzle!! That is the spirit, I say I am going to be soaking wet anyway, whats a little extra from the sky gonna hurt?;)

Hi Everyone!
I've briefly read over everyone's posts and I must say - you guys are AWESOME and some of you are really getting speedy!! Keep up the good work.
Lauren - congrats on your first 5K. INCREDIBLE time! Are you DH hooked on races now? ;) :cool1:
Veronica - 5 miles in under 1 hour. WAY TO GO! Keep up the good work! :cheer2:
Kathy - I would love to see the Boston Marathon up close. I seriously doubt I'll ever be able to participate but just being a spectator would be a thrill for me. I'll probably tune in on TV if there is a station carrying it nationwide.
Lisa - I second the Garmin. I have a 305. It keeps track of all your runs, your pace, your splits & average pace per mile, your heart rate (305 & 405), calories burned, etc. I LOVE IT. $150 is a great price; I paid close to $300 for mine three years ago.
Jess - Hope you had a WONDERFUL birthday weekend. Can't wait to hear all about it! party:
Dona - hope your son had a good experience at his half yesterday. Is this the son that just got a new job? :goodvibes
Patsy - I have my name in the Nike lottery as well. This is the third year I've put in for it. I didn't get chosen the previous two. Here's hoping the third time is a charm. Good luck to you! :thumbsup2
I have a half-marathon this next weekend in OK City. It's the 10th anniversary of the run - in honor of the OK City memorial. There will be a few other WISHers there. I'm really looking forward to it but I'm not prepared. I really haven't done much training. As long as I can walk it all, I'll be OK, though. This really is a good race, I did it two years ago. The people in OK city are so appreciative of the participants. They really go all out to make us feel welcomed. At the race I did previously, we got to meet and talk to the former building manager of the Murrah building - the building that was bombed by Timothy McVeigh. Survivors put on private tours of the memorial for the race participants and our survivor (for our group of 20 people) was the building manager. He said his office remained somewhat intact but the offices across the hall were all gone. He also said that the money raised in the races goes to the memorial and he thanked us for participating. He is truly a remarkable and inspiring gentleman. He lives in Texas now and said he plans to return every year for the race, as long as he can. Wow!
Hope everyone has a great week!

Hi everyone! Thanks for all the birthday and baptism wishes! Birthday was uneventful... went into the running store and not even three minutes after walking in, my son threw up in front of the gels and chews. I was so embarrassed! I cleaned it up for them and told them I would be back without the kids!!! The baptism was absolutely wonderful. I was in heels from 11:30am until 11 at night so by the end of the night I felt like I had run three marathons. But it was great.
This morning I ran 5.5 miles in 1:03 in 37 degree weather. I don't know if 1:03 is a good time but I had never done 5.5 miles in my life and I'm over the moon about it. I'm feeling very confident I can do a 10K come June 5th with a kick booty time at that!
Today's still kinda hectic but I'll be back on the thread in full swing probably tomorrow!
Oh yea, my birthday is 4/16 and I'll be doing the Princess Half in March!

Question for everyone: I have been only running (of course, I haven't gone farther than 3 miles yet), but I was talking to a friend about Jeff Galloway-style training. She loves it because she feels she recovers faster, can finish more strongly (which results in faster times), and is less prone to injury. I think she uses 3:1 intervals (3min run/1 min walk), but others do 1:1, 2:1, 4:1, 5:1, whatever works for them.
Just curious to see what everyone here is doing. I would love to know!

Ds finished his first half in 2 hrs and 51 minutes. Not great but her did finish. He twisted his ankle at mile 6 and kept running till mile 9 and then wallked the rest. Then he ended up with a cold. So with only 5 left at his job he took a sick day:confused3
Some great times from everyone this weekend. I never got to really walk at the scout event but I spent almost 4 hours on my feet walking from side to side in the tent. I did do some walking yesterday and won't today because it is cloudy and cold. Maybe do some bike riding while watching a dvd.
Have a great evening everyone.

I attended a Jeff Galloway workshop a couple of years ago. He stressed the importance of taking walking breaks throughout your long run - makes your runs more efficient. If I recall correctly, the intervals are based on your pace. I mainly walk with a little running mixed in every now and then. At my peak, I would walk 3 minutes, run 2 minutes. I backed off to walk 4 minutes, run 1 minute to just walking. Jeff told me that it would be more efficient to walk 2 minutes, run 30 seconds vs. W4/R1. I really think it helped. My goal is to lose more weight so I can do more running again. I know other people who have used his methods and swear by them. Through your training, you'll find what works for you.
VernRDH
04-19-2010, 06:03 PM
I think Galloway is a great plan. I do some walk breaks when I do long runs, but not on any schedule, just when I feel I need the break for a minute or if I am taking water/fuel. Does it work? I gotta say yes. I ran my first half marathon in 2:36, walked about 1.5 miles of it (mostly due to the fact that my chub-rub was so bad I was bleeding at the finish)
I think that there is no plan that is perfect for everyone. Each of us has to find what works best for US. My inlaws will not walk, not a step, because to them you didn't really "run" it if you walk at all. They also take no water, gatorade or any fuel during long runs or the half. (Can we say crazy??)
Do what feels right for you. And you will never go wrong.

On another note, you all may remember my questioning whether running with my inlaws was a good thing since there were some issues there. I have made my stand, and I will be training alone primarily from now on.
I agreed to meet them yesterday morning, at 7:30. I went out early to do a mile before meeting up with them. So I timed it that I would be at the meeting spot at that time to run with them. I get there-they are already gone, no sign of them. Oh well, I keep going, no big. When I pass them on their way back, MIL won't even acknowledge me. Still no worries. I keep running, run my best time for that distance yet. Meet up with them at the end while they are walking, MIL still won't acknowledge me. FIL asks how I did, tell him, he is happy for me. Says, hey we should go run some 800's over at the track some time. MIL walks away, gets in her car and leaves. That was really it for me.
I have run the last two weeks alone and have had really great runs. I am less stressed during and after and I am running better. There is something to be said about running with a partner or a group, but until I find the right person or people, I am going to go solo. And while I am alone physically, I know I have good WISHer friends who tag along, if only in my mind!!
Thanks for listening to me vent. You guys rock!!:thumbsup2

That sounds like an interesting plan. :) I'm doing Couch-to-10k, and am currently doing 5:1 intervals. Really slow going today, but I did it.
Today's lesson: do not stop at Chipotle less than an hour before you run.

Well I ran 2.5 miles straight today!!! It took me about 37 min, which is a 15 min mile, which makes me very happy to see my time improving. I know I have 11 months to prepare for the princess, but I've had this fear of being swept. My goal is to run 3 miles next week, and then sign up for my first 5k in june. The race I'm going to do is for women and a few other women I know might be doing it also.
Veronica- wow, it sounds like you mil is a piece of work, and she can't tolerate things if they are not on her terms. I'm so glad you made a stand for yourself, and by the successful runs you've been having, you did the right thing. You are incredible, and we are definitely all supporting you!!
Thanks for the description of the garmin. It sounds awesome, and maybe after my first race, I will invest.
Mickeymomto2-I was thinking about doing more of a walk/run intervals lately. I ran 2 1/2 miles straight today, and want to finish the c25k and be able to run the full 3 miles, but I think my body would be better served if I do some walking too. I'm in week 8, which is supposed to be 3 runs for 28 min or 2.75 miles, so I did the first day, but I think I'm going to run a mile, the walk a bit, and try to do the full 2.75 running with walking in between 2 days, and the long straight run one day/week. My hips do ache a bit tonight, but the rest of me feels pretty good.
Susie- Good luck with the half marathon. It must be so emotional for all involved. This is the 15th anniversary, I believe. My parents anniversary is april 19th, and I remember going over to pick them up and take them out to lunch and they were riveted to the tv. My dad died later that year, but it's how I remember their last anniversary together. It is amazing to see the strength of the survivors. My heart goes out to them.
Jess- Hope your son was better for the baptism. Sounds like a wondeful day. I bet you burn some extra calories wearing them heels.
Lisa- maybe we'll get our garmins before the princess!!
Dona- so glad your son did well in his first half. Gives me inspiration that I will get there too.
Keep up the incredible running and walking!!

Veronica ~ I totally understand what you are saying here! I used to run with my neighbor and really enjoyed the company, but I always found myself stressing and really not enjoying the actual runs...I'm sure I was putting more pressure on myself than maybe she was really putting on me but she is a much faster paced runner and I would always "kill" myself trying to keep up with her pace and I didn't want to ever say that I needed to take a break because I didn't want to mess up her training run....so now although it is really hard sometimes to face 12 miles alone on a trail I find that I am doing much better because I'm not pushing myself to the brink of exhaustion. I'm taking my walking breaks, etc... A running partner definitely has to be a right fit...
My two cents on the Jeff Galloway plan...I too think it is great. I don't necessarily stick to a 3:1, 4:1 or whatever, but last year at the Disneyland Half Marathon I was by myself so I decided that I would run with one of the Pacers...I choose the 2:30 pacer. It was the BEST experience in a run I've ever had. This girl had done near a hundred Marathons and I don't know how many half marathons and she was great at keeping us on pace. Every mile we walked. EVERY mile.... she had something on her wrist that told her at what time we should be at each mile. If we were there early...we took longer walk breaks or if she saw that we were going too fast she'd slow our pace down. Our finish time...2:29. It really was the best experience I've ever had. Although it wasn't really the Jeff Galloway plan it was similar in that she made us take walk breaks. She said that she's finished every one of her Marathons in the same fashion.
Another piece of advice I've gotten on the walk breaks is to walk when you get to a fluid station. Take the water/Gatorade and sip it while briskly walking to the other end and then start back running. I've been told that very little time is actually lost doing this. I did this method at the Princess Half Marathon and would have finished at the 2:30 mark if I hadn't stopped to have pictures made! :lmao: But Heck...I couldn't pass Mickey & Minnie up!
I agree that everyone has to find their own method though...Trying to keep up with the friend that is faster paced will only bring on injuries...
Now, with all that said I'm headed to the treadmill...had to work late and didn't get to go for my run right after work....ugh, I hate it when that happens!
Have a GREAT Tuesday everyone!

Patsy, what's a pacer?
I may not be using the correct term, but the pacer runs the half marathon or marathon and will finish the run in a certain designated time. I guess they are appointed to that position by the race organizers. Like, last year at the DL Half....they had runners holding balloons on sticks or signs on sticks with a time written on it...like 2:00; 2:15, 2:30, etc...so I chose the 2:30 time holder and just kept her balloons in my sight the whole time. You just choose your time you'd like to finish in and find that person in the coral and run with that person. I didn't sign up ahead of time or anything. The Princess Half didn't have them. DL has had them each year that I've done it. The first year I didn't run with the pacer but I did the second year and it was great.
Hopefully this makes sense....

Awesome, thanks. I figured it was something like that, but wasn't sure. That would be GREAT if they had that for Wine & Dine, but since it'll be dark, who knows.

I would venture to guess that they will have pacers at Wine and Dine, most all bigger races do. I actually ended up behind the 3:00 pacer at WDW in January and guess where I finished? 2:59. (I wasn't trying to finish there, but it is where I ended up) Either Runners World or ClifBar will have a pacing team I bet.

She is 88 years old and still running and she started at age 50. It benefits her daughters scholarship fund, who was kidnapped and murdered in the 70s. A little over 300 ran it last year. I'm in the next town over, and it ends at a beach/park, so I'll have my sister or a friend bring my son down to see the finish.

Good morning, everyone! I'm going to try to get back into the swing of things here. So my knee is killing me today. I felt it during the last half mile of my 5.5 mile run yesterday. Maybe I overdid it. I went from never running more than 4.5 miles to running 5.5. I'm going to definitely take today off from the exercise, hopefully it's better tomorrow or Thursday. I hope... I don't want to take any time off!!
My DS (almost 3) had his first swim lessons last night. He was the class "bad kid." I was so embarrassed! To his defense, he's the oldest in a class full of 12 and 15 month olds. He's a great swimmer, Great!, and he just wanted to do things ahead of the others. The instructor had to sit down and chat with him. I felt like such a bad mom...
Anyway...
Vern - what pace do you typically run at? I'm just curious because I haven't had an official race yet and just trying to see where I might be at. Sorry to hear your MIL is being kinda rotten. She'll just have to build herself a bridge. There's nothing wrong with doing what's best for you.
Mickeys#1fan4ever - I think the whole Galloway concept is interesting. I'm wondering if I should try it. I'm very difficult though, an over achiever, and I feel like if I don't run 100% of it, then I'm not doing it right. How do I get over that mentality!?!
mikamah - I have that same fear, of being swept in the half, but the further I start to run in my training, the more confident I am that I'll be alright. I'm sure you'll become more comfortable as time goes on... WTG on the 2.5 miles!
donac - Hurray for your DS on his first half! I bet you were one proud momma! I hope he gets over that cold... that really stinks after such a huge accomplishment!
OK, I gotta get back to work here but really quick i was thinking... I really wanted to get the Nike + but heard mixed things about it. Now I was reading on here all the stuff about the Garmins and I just don't know... which one should I get? I would love a Garmin but $$$ is tight, especially with all these races I need to start registering for.

I can so relate to this. When I first saw the Galloway plan, I thought, "I can't do that. I have to run the whole way!" And for my first 5K, I am glad that I did run the whole thing because that was my initial goal.
HOWEVER, this morning I took a few 1 min. walking breaks, and I ran 3.1 in 32 minutes, which is a minute and 30 seconds faster than my 5K race time on Saturday. Also, I stopped at the end of my run to stretch, and a friend came by. I ran another mile with her (she was doing 4R:1W intervals), and I felt great the whole way. I could even carry on a conversation with her.
So, I have decided that for the long haul, I am going to start doing some intervals (I still need to figure out what ratio is best for me). My long-term goal is to do the Princess Half, and I think a few walking intervals will make me feel stronger on long runs and make me enjoy it more. And if today is any indication, my time with some walking intervals may be faster as well.
I think the best thing about running is that it's so personal. I am going to devise a plan that works for me, and if that includes a few walk breaks, I'm okay with that, especially after today. I was really surprised how a few one minute breaks made such a difference in the overall quality of my run!
P.S. I also thought about this: If Jeff Galloway, an Olympic athlete, can take a few walk breaks, I can, too!
P.S.S. I wrote about my 5K experience on my blog if anyone wants to see pics. http://www.baseballsandbows.com/2010/04/5k.html

Jess, I usually run in the 11:00-12:00 min/mile range. Shorter runs were usually always right around 11 and long ones 12. But as of late I have been running low 10's for short runs and high 10's/low 11's for the long runs. I firmly believe this is because I allow myself the walk break and have no stressful energy with me while I am running.
I don't know anything about the Nike+, but I do know about the Garmin. It is a chunk of change, but to me it is an essential tool in my training, just like good shoes.
Whoever said running was a cheap sport was sorely mistaken:rotfl:

Just saying hi really quick. Tough lesson learned today... do not take your baby to the Y so you can run 2 hours after she got her 6 month shots! I barely squeezed in two miles when the staff came to get me because she was screaming in the baby-sitting room. Poor thing has been crying, fussing or sleeping for the last six hours now. :guilty: At least that brought my weekly total to 7.5 miles for the week. I'm spending the rest of my night with a baby on the **** (sorry if TMI) and Caillou on the TV for my DS and Marathoning for Mortals in hand!

Lauren- I enjoyed reading your blog about your first race, and you looked great after!! Your daughter is a cutie.
Veronica- enjoy BL tonight. It was a good one.
I had been thinking of walk/running 2 days and running 1 day and when I went out this morning, my hip was a little sore when i started running, so I ran a couple minutes, and walked a minute or so, and just varied it up, and my hip really felt ok throughout it, and I did 2 miles in 29 minutes which is about what I did last time running, but I really felt better after. My muscles did not feel as achey and my hips which tend to get a little sore after running, felt pretty good. I do want to run a full 5k, but I think at my age and weight that the walk/run will be better overall. It's nice to hear everyone elses thoughts about it too. I'll check out Jeff Galloway's method too.
Hope you're all having a nice week. My son is on vacation from school, so I took a few vacation days and we've walked the mile to and from the park where I do my running, so we've gotten some good exercise. I work tomorrow and then have a 3 day weekend off.

I'm not sure I've completely gotten past that mental thought of "if I don't run/jog the entire time then I'm not really running a half marathon" I'm really hard on myself about it but I try to remind myself that I'll feel a whole lot better if I allow myself the walk breaks. Some times though the pain I get in the balls of my feet leave me no choice but to take a walk break!

I had an awful running day. It was super rainy, so I went to the gym instead of the park. I can usually do 70 minutes, this week at a 5:1 ratio, but today I only lasted 20 minutes on the treadmill before I thought I was going to die. Shoot!

Ran sprints this morning, tried 8mph, can't go that fast yet. Went back down to 7mph, did fine. Did 17 one minute sprints. Felt good.
My friend in CA is working on a new training plan for me for the DL half. This gives me the break from the inlaws because my long run day will be Sat instead of Sun. FIL told DH that I just need to be patient with her, I say no I don't, my patience has run out. (DH agrees).

Hi Veronica ~ How long do you walk in between the sprints? We did something like this at bootcamp class the other night...we jogged 3 minutes and sprinted 2 minutes for 20 minutes. I liked it though....it seemed to make the treadmill a little more bearable.

I do one minute sprint then one minute walk. At some point I may try 90 sec sprint/30 second walk. It does make the treadmill more bearable.

Hey everyone! Just stopping in for a minute. I got four miles in today, just under 43 minutes. My time is slowly getting down there so I'm happy about that. On Wednesday, I tried to incorporate walking into my run and I didn't like it at all. I felt very slowed down by it and sluggish after I started running after the walk again. I mean, it was only for a 10th of a mile... is there something wrong with me that I feel more comfortable just keeping my pace??

Well....I'm bummed! For the 3rd year in a row I didn't get into the Nike Half Marathon in San Francisco :sad2: but at least I still have the Disneyland and the Coast to Coast Medal to look forward to :thumbsup2 and I am really excited about that!
So moving on today....I did get in 4 miles on the treadmill this morning and I tried the sprint/walk sequence and really liked it. I get so bored just running on the treadmill that I like the breaking it up. I did 2 minute sprints and 2 minute jogs...the miles went by pretty quickly.
Jess...there were a few women in my Moms In Motion group that did not like the run/walk sequence. They felt the sameway you feel....like it slowed them down. Patsy - So sorry you didn't get into the Nike Half! Since I am a new runner, I don't have much race experience, but that sounded like a fun one. I hope you will get to participate one year.
Jess - Although I feel the opposite with the walk breaks, I can see how some runners would feel the same as you do. Just go with what feels best for you. I think the individualized aspect of running is great, and there's no one right answer.
My 8yo son is participating in the Music City Kids' Marathon tonight. The kids run 25 miles before race night, and then they run the last mile together (it's the same last mile that the grown-up marathoners will run tomorrow). Three thousand kids participate, and it's so much fun for everyone. Jeff Fisher, the Titans' head coach, is always at the finish line giving high-fives, and my son loves that! They also get a really nice medal.
The weather tomorrow is not looking good for the regular Music City Marathon and Half-Marathon. I feel so badly for all the people who have trained so hard. They will probably be running in the rain. We are expected to have tornado warnings after noon, so I guess they have great motivation to finish quickly!

Hi everyone! Again, sorry for not being around much. 3.5 more weeks of school and I'll get a break! Whew!
Some of you are really getting speedy. During my summer break, I'm going to work more on speed, weight loss, training, cleaning the house, world peace and getting pedicures. In the meantime, I'll live through you guys.
For those of you of you who think you have to run the full race, wait until you experience a half or full in the blazing heat and humidity that Florida can sometimes offer. Trust me, you'll be welcoming those walking and crawling breaks! :rotfl: Jeff Galloway and others have come up with a generic formula of when to take walking breaks - for every 10 minutes of running, you should walk one minute. That's six minutes for every hour. Your body needs that time to re-energize. You're also less prone to injury if you take these breaks.
Jess - Really, for shorter distances, you probably won't notice the benefit of the walking breaks as much as you will with longer distances. I think the sluggishness you are experiencing is common. You just have to find what works for you. For 4-6 miles, you could probably run the whole way and not have any problems. It's when you start adding miles, your body starts wearing down, you get tired and maybe achy. You're more prone to injuries. By incorporating some walking breaks, you give your body (feet and legs, mainly) a break. You'll be able to maintain your pace better. You'll feel better when you finish. Again, find what works for you....especially when you add more miles. Now, I'm speaking only from my experience as a walker with a little running mixed in. Perhaps those of you who run more can better answer this question.
Vernonica - sorry about the MIL snub. I've never understood why people behave this way at times. It only makes them look bad. Good for you for standing your ground, though. Sounds like FIL knows what's going on and is supportive of your efforts.
And now for my pity party....I'm a little mad. I did not get selected for the Nike Women's half-marathon...third year in a row! Darn! The lottery has only been offered three years and I've been declined all three years! At least NYC lets you in on the third year if you were declined two years in a row. I'll get over it, but geez! Three years in a row? I might have to break down and do Disney's Wine & Dine. That would be more fun anyway, right? ;)
I'm leaving tomorrow to participate in OK City's half-marathon. I'm really looking forward to the break even though I'll have to take some work with me. I'll be seeing some other WISHers while there. I'll take some pics and share them with you all when I get back.
Hope you all have a great weekend and happy training! Amy - hang in there. We all have those "less than stellar" days. :upsidedow

Patsy - three years in a row, too? I'm putting 2 + 2 together - I think there's a conspiracy against us. I did go last year but it wasn't through the lottery ..it's only because Nike opened the race back up a month before the event.
Lauren - good luck to your son. I think it's great that he can participate in something like this. You'll have to post a pic of him with his medal. :goodvibes My DH, Steve, did the Country Music Marathon last year - his first marathon (I did the half). It was very warm that day - 85 degrees at noon. He sure picked a hard one to do - hilly and hot. That's why I am hoping to run my first half in Orlando! It may still be hot, but it won't be hilly! I have to really look for flat places to run around here. As a new runner, I am just not ready to tackle big hills, and we sure do have a lot of them! Raising money is an awesome idea, but I just don't have the extra time to commit to that & I don't want to pay big money to join TNT and then still have to pay to participate in the run. Oh well....there is always next year I guess! What part of Arkansas are you from? We are from Memphis and my husband actually lived in Pine Bluff....I have relatives in Little Rock and my husband still has relatives in Pine Bluff. My oldest son really, really wanted to go to University of Arkansas but they didn't have what he wants to major in as an undergraduate program. We are HOG fans too!

Good morning incredibles!!
I haven't been on in a few days. It's been spring break for my son so I took some days off from work, and we've been busy. Next weekend is his first communion so I've been doing big time spring cleaning. I don't get it all done every year, but this year I'm determined. I'll do my third day of running today after his basketball clinic, unless he wakes up soon, and then we'll go before.
I've enjoyed reading everyone's thoughts on the walking/running vs just running. It's helpful for me.
patsy and susie- sorry about the Nike marathon. How frustrating for both of you. You'd think they would have a more fair way to do it.
Amy-Whoo hoo on your 10.49 min mile!!!!! It is very impressive to me, especially since this week I just got under a 15 min mile. I can't believe you've picked up that much speed in 6 weeks, but if I think about it, 8 weeks ago, I couldn't run a full minute without feeling like I was dying, and this week I did 2 and a half miles. It really is amazing the progress we can make if we set our minds to it.
Love that quote veronica.
Have a nice weekend.

Must be INCREDIBLE time, since I too did well with my running today.
3 miles in 29:44:woohoo: That is the first time EVER I have run 3 miles under 30 minutes. It was tough, I took a couple short walk breaks to catch my breath. But I did it!!! :yay:
Kathy-you too will get there. As you said, look at where you were 6 weeks ago. Now you are running 2.5 miles. Speed will come with time, no worries. Just keep on keeping on.

Amy, Kathy, and Veronica - AWESOME improvement! It really is amazing to look back and see how far you've come.
Today I had to run on the treadmill for the first time in weeks (we are having severe thunderstorms/tornado watches). In the beginning, I liked the treadmill because I liked setting everything and having all the numbers right in front of me, but I definitely like running outside better now. However, I was excited that the last time I ran on a treadmill I was running 5.2 mph, and today I was able to do 5.8 and 5.9. It's so fun to see progress.
And, since we're having bad weather, my kids are enjoying a movie right now. They couldn't have picked a better one: The Incredibles!

Ooops forgot to mention: I but birthdays and Disney races folks will be participating in on the roster on post #1. So if you haven't given me that info and want to be included, either PM me or post it up here. If I left anything out, let me know.
I will carry the roster over each month so that we have a complete current list all the time.

My son ran in Country Music Kids' Marathon last night and had a ball. It was his third year to participate. They had great weather. Unfortunately, the runners today didn't. The elite group finished fine, but anyone with a time greater than 10min/mile was diverted to the half marathon so they would finish before the strong thunderstorms arrived. I felt so badly for those who had trained for the marathon, especially anyone who was doing it for the first time. I know how disappointed I will be if I work toward my goal all year and something beyond my control keeps me from finishing!
Here is a pic of my son with his medal after the race. If you want to read more details and see more pics, you can visit my blog post about it. Hope everyone has a great evening!

Morning everyone!!
I am off and running today-literally. I did 5 miles this morning in 53:03, 10:36 pace:thumbsup2 That is nearly 2 minutes faster than last week. Weight was down again:cool1:.
I am off to volunteer with our running club at a health and fitness expo for a couple hours. Then home to relax. Yesterday was super busy. I ran, came home and walked the dog, showered, ate breakfast, went to the bank, took DD to TKD, went to Walmart, picked up DD, went to market, home to make lunch and put away groceries. Then out to mow the backyard. DH came back from his walk and suggested we go to the driving range to hit a bucket of balls (DD got golf clubs for Christmas, so she is anxious to use them). Then home to cook dinner and take the dog for a long walk since DD and I did not do a long walk in the afternoon. In between all that was the usual house stuff, picking up, laundry etc. No wonder I am tired come Monday morning!!
Hope everyone has a great day-keep on being INCREDIBLE!!!

Congrats on your son and his medal. I still have not seen a picture of my son finishing his half last week.
Rainy here on the east coast but not the severe weather the rest of the country had yesterday. It was beautiful here yesterday and I spent it inside. I was at a charity seing event. We were making pillowcases for kids with cancer. A quilting magazine has challenged quilter to make 1 million pillowcases for this cause. My quilt shop has pledged 1000. As of yesterday we are at 658. we made 100 yesterday and 53 were brought in last week by people who couldn't be there. THere were only about 6 people sewing and one person cutting all the time so I think we did okay with the sewing.
Ds's 25th birthday today. When did that happen:scared1: He won't be home for dinner(got to see the girlfriend). We went out with him and his brother on Friday. Should be a pretty quiet day. Ds2 will be leaving soon to go back to college. I have to do some grocery shopping but after that it will be very layed back.
I am thinking of doing something with seafood for dinner since ds1 will not be here. I am trying to plan out the week. I know one day we need to go mow s-inlaw's lawn so that will be an eat out day. We love Roy Rogers and there is none except by her house. So we go mow her lawn and then have dinner there. DH loves their roast beef sandwiches.
Have a great day everyone.

Good morning INCREDIBLES! :goodvibes
This morning I was INCREDIBLE and did my first walk/race. It was 5 miles and I finished in 1:36:18 -- which is a little less than a 20 min mile. I ran a few intervals but since I am only in C25K W3 I didn't push it and walked most of the race. I want to be able to keep training later this week. :thumbsup2 DH and DS were good sports and did it with me. I don't know if this is the start of a family thing or not.
My hips are really hurting but I will be fine. I finished and that was my goal. I can only improve from here! :hippie:
Have a great day and be INCREDIBLE!

Veronica- congrats on your improved pace!! 2 minute improvement is a lot in a week. And congrats on your weight loss too!!
Lisa- you are INCREDIBLE!!!!
Congratulations!! Princess half, here we come!!!!!
Dona- happy -b-day to your son. How do they grow up so fast?
Did my 2 miles saturday walk/running in just under 30 min. Happy with that. I'll do it again today before the dentist and work.

Hi Everyone, I just joined the team:banana: My name is Lindsay I am 31. Married for 6yrs and a proud mom of two boys ages 5 and 3. I have been trying to loose the baby weight for years.....and in the process have managed to gain more:confused3 oops. Now I am determined to loose it once and for all. My motivation is doing my first 1/2 marathon.....the disney princess 1/2 in 2011. I am so excited to do this! I will be traveling with my mom and we will make it a girls weekend. I am also looking forward to meeting some of you. I was excited to join a team that I knew would have some others doing the princess 1/2.
My running backround is this.....I hate to run , but afterwards I feel amazing and love to push myself and feel accomplished. I was a star athlete in high school and was extremely active. I played basketball, field hockey, and softball. All of which required lots of running and even while in shape I hated it. Now it gives me chuckles to think I have made my goal a 1/2 marathon. I am hoping that with training I will learn to love to run. I have done a number of 5K's in the past 1 1/2 years. My most recent was yesterday. I completed it in 41:57. Not bad considering I just started running again last week. It also was 49 degrees and raining.
I have started a journal and plan to post daily updates. Feel free to follow along and provide encouragement along the way. I know I will need it.
Thanks for letting me join the team. I think these boards are amazing....no Im sorry there incredible!:thumbsup2

Reading over everyone's posts it seems that there are a LOT of congrats in order! So I'll just say one big CONGRATS to all of you on your awesome times! :goodvibes
Veronica.....can you push some of that weight loss out California way! :wizard: That is one area I seem to be struggling in....just can't seem to get it to budge. I guess good news is that I'm not gaining, but I'm not losing either....
Well for me it is going to be a busy week....but going to fit in my running & bootcamp classes no matter what! I seemed to have fallen into a slump this winter and any small excuse got me out of exercising....but no more!
Hope everyone has an Incredible start to this new week!

Hey guys... I'll do a much better check-in tomorrow but just wanted to let you all know I'm alive. I'm not doing any kind of running until Friday. It hurt last Monday after my 5.5 mile so I waited until Wednesday and did two miles. Felt fine. Friday, did 4 miles again and it started to hurt. It felt fine last night and stupd me, I got as far as 2.25 miles (at a 10:34 pace, darn it!) and I called it quits. So I'm cross training all week, with tomorrow off.
I'm totally into my Marathoning for Mortals book. OMG, the stuff I'm learning. I'll check back tomorrow... we have DS's swim lessons here shortly!

Happy Monday, Everyone! I'm sorry I didn't check in at all last week (what a good way to start on the team... :guilty:) I have been reading all of your posts, though, and a big CONGRATS to everyone!
For me... I ran in the Out & Back 4 mile Party Run on Friday night. It was my 2nd race ever, and the first over a 5K. I'm not all that happy with my time - 51:10... I was hoping to be under 50... But, all in all, I'm happy that I finished! I ran the first full 2 miles, and then ran/walked the 2nd half, including running up the hill to the finish line!
I'm not sure what my plans are going forward... I'm thinking about signing up for the Rock & Roll Half in Philly in September, and the Livestrong 10K in August... but first I have to convince my DH that it's ok to spend the $$!
I'm also struggling with whether or not I should start throwing in some intervals to my training. Up until now, I've only worried about endurance, but I'd really like to cut back on the time.. :confused3:
Oh, and my Birthday is May 19!
I hope everyone is having a great day!

I am home today due to my little guy being sick so as he is napping I have been catching up on the posts. Being new to the boards I thought it would be good to try to get an idea of who you all are. Just one question...do I have to find a new thread for each month?
Lauren- I live somewhere in the middle of philly and the amish country. Isnt it an amazing experience to see the amish life. Somedays I wish my life could be that simple.:) I would have to agree philly is a great place but definitely a pretty dirty city compared to others Ive been too. Its not as bad as NYC though I think they are the winner. We are visiting TN this summer. Gatlinburg...is it anywhere near you? We are going for 10days and I am a little nervous about running since I am assuming its quite hilly. Not sure yet what I am going to do.
My kids ran in the kids race the day prior to the 5K I did yesterday. They had gorgeous weather (which I was glad for) then for my race it was 50 and raining. I too felt bad for those who trained for the 1/2 marathon. Luckily they all were allowed to finish. I cant imagine those poor marathon runners from the race in your area that must have been so disappointing for them.

Ok ladies, just a quick fly by. I am off to bed here in a few minutes. I know, I know you are all looking at your clock going :confused3 but I am absolutely EXHAUSTED!! Stayed up too late last night chatting with my friend in Cali about my new training plan (which he emailed to me). Poor lunch choice today did not help, so I am off to sleepy-ville for a full 8 hrs of shut eye. Running intervals tomorrow on the mill.
Great job everyone on the racing over the weekend!!! As long as you finish, that is all that matters. Tomorrow at lunch I will try to update the b-day/race post.
Welcome to Lindsay, my newest peep. At the end of April (only a few short days away!!) I will post on this thread the link to the new May thread. I will do that each month so its easy for folks to find their way.
Patsy-the weight loss, well I am working hard at it, I can tell you that (well except for todays lunch, comfort food extraordinaire was much needed). But I used flex points and didn't eat dinner since I am still not hungry. Water is key tonight, I feel dehydrated. Keep on with it, it will happen eventually.

Welcome to the Incredibles! I felt the same way about running as you until the last few months. Now I am actually starting to enjoy it. I was the person who said I would NEVER be in a half or a marathon. At some point, I will learn to never say never!
Gatlinburg is a great place to visit. I actually live in Middle Tennessee, so I am about 4 hours from there. Pigeon Forge is very commercialized, but there are lots of tourist-y things to do there: my kids loved Dollywood, and there is a nice water park at Dollywood as well. There are also go-cart/putt-putt places (we enjoyed Old McDonald's putt-putt course near the outlets), outlet shopping, shows (like Dixie Stampede), etc... Gatlinburg is a little more scenic with a little bit of a Swiss alps kind of feel, and the Smoky Moutain National Park is beautiful. Hiking in the park is great. There are lots of nice trails. The Pancake Pantry in Gatlinburg serves a yummy breakfast. As far as running is concerned, the strip in Pigeon Forge is flat, but once you head toward Gatlinburg and get more into the mountains, any runs will be quite hilly.
Again, welcome to the Incredibles! So glad to have you on our team!

Good morning, gang. I'll try to be back later for personals... I'm at work today and the only one here and it's a busy day. I just had to vent for a minute and hope that's OK.
So I'm banging my head against a wall. Not only can I not run until Friday because of my knee, but all my future races are in jeopardy. I just found out last night that due to a screw-up, not on our part, my mortgage is going up $420 a month for the next 12 months. We're tight on money as it is and this gonna make things so much harder. So I have no idea where I'm gonna find extra money for race registrations, in particular the Princess Half and our first family vacation in March. I just want to cry. I did my first run with my Garmin today. I love it! I haven't really set it up for anything yet, just hit start. I did 3 miles in 31:49 (played around with a 3:1min run/walk ratio--I am still amazed that I go faster with walk breaks).
Question for those experienced with races--I was looking at info about a 10K race nearby that I want to do Labor Day weekend. The info said it is for runners only. Does that mean you can't walk at all?
Jess--So sorry for the challenges you are facing. I hope your knee improves quickly. The 1/2 is a long time from now, so keep hoping. Maybe the financing will work itself out by then.
One more thing--like the true dork that I am, I ordered an iron-on Incredible logo. I am going to find a red tech shirt for it. Wearing it will motivate me and help me to feel INCREDIBLE! I'll post a picture when I get it done.
Have a INCREDIBLE day!

If anyone can help me that would be great.

Lindsay, I use the following equations to figure out my activity points:
Light Activity is your current weight x # of mins x .000232
Mod Activity is your current weight x # of mins x .000327
Heavy Activity your current weight x # of mins x .0008077
Pretty accurate, and since weight changes every day around here, its easy to do.

Good evening everyone. Busy day walked over 17000 steps today
Just sat down to watch the BL. We went to mow sis inlaw's lawn. First time for the season. It is going to be a long season. Her backyard was under water but it really didn't look like it so I stepped and it covered my sneakers with water. My toes are frozen. The only thing that has kept us going with the lawn mowing is that we eat at Roy ROgers. I love their roast beef. I did have the fries but the rest of my day was great. I also did not have any soda and I got the small fries so it all fit into my day. I think dh is going to do his dad's lawn on Sunday. Yes add in our lawn and dh does three all season long. I help him when I can. For Christmas I bought him a set of ramps to make it easier to get the lawn mower into the truck he drives. The joke last year was I was going to mow with my crutch after my foot surgery. Luckily ds2 helped him last summer.
Saturday is going to be a challenge. We have a first communion/confirmation party. My neice makes her first communion on Sat and her brother made his confirmation in March. Their parents are both out of work so my sister in law's sister (different sis in law) is having the party for them. Unfortunately the party will not be at my brother's house which is only 20 minutes away. We have to travel an hour and a half just to get there. I hate these types of parties. They always wait until most of the people get there until they start to serve the real food and by then you have been sitting around for 2 hours. They also serve a lot of drinks and I don't drink so then I over dose on water and end up going to the bathroom 3 times in an hour. If I don't get served food by 5 (party starts at 3) I think I might leave.
Off to get some advil in me and then curl up in a warm blanket to get warm.
Have a great evening everyone.

Hope everyone is doing INCREDIBLE today! I finished a whole 10k! 6.2 miles in 1:10:37 (5.23 mph, 11:23 pace). It's a slower pace than I've been going at, but speed comes later, right?

I hate those parties too. I mean you should have the food ready within 30-40 minutes of arrival time. That drives me crazy :headache:. Great job on all those steps you took today. Thats amazing. I also dread the lawn mowing season. Love the weather, hate taking care of the grass. I wish I made enough money to pay someone else but no luck. My dh does it most times but occasionally I get suckered into it. Hope you have a good night!

Great job on completing the full 10K and I think your time is awesome. Dont worry you will get faster in time. I see your from NYC. I am heading there for the day with my parents next friday. It's their bday gift from me. We take the bus up and I think we are going to do one of the double decker tours. Any good places to eat in the upper east side thats not more than 20$per person?
Well I just completed W5D1. I did 2miles in 27min. I am just working on getting my endurance up and then will work on my speed. I did notice that when I walk it kills the outer sides of my shins but once I start running again it feels better. Not sure what to do about that. Otherwise I felt great and probably could have gone another mile. taking it one step at a time. I also stepped on the scale today and lost 1.4lbs since yesterday. I know your not suppose to weigh in everyday but since I work in a doctors office I get tempted everytime I walk by the scale. At least it gives me a boost of self confidence. Have a good night!

Depends what kind of place you want to eat at. For lunch, we really like Sarabeth's on Madison and I think E. 95th. Dinner is great there, also, but a little more than $20. Lots of good places on 3rd in the 80s, too.

It's American/French.
Oh, but if you're looking for a burger, the best in the city is at Soup Burg 1095 Lexington Ave., at around E. 76th.

thank you so much for that information. Is there a max amount of points that you add?
I was told if you earn them, then you can use them. I know that some people "bank" their activity points for other times during the week. I do not, if I earn them on Tuesday, I use em on Tuesday. It works for me.

Good Morning, Incredibles! How is everyone doing today?
roomthreeseventeen - Awesome Job on the 10K!
mommyof2Pirates - Congrats on completing W5D1 and on the Weight Loss!
Patsy - Way to go!!! 3 miles under 30 minutes is AMAZING! I will definitely be celebrating when I get there!
As for me... I decided to do the intervals on Monday night. I think I'm going to alternate my running between just running on the treadmill and doing intervals. I used W1D1 from the C25K program to guide me... but I kept the pace up - a level 5 for the walking, warm up and cool down and a level 6.5 for the running, with a 60/90 second interval. I ended up completing a 5K in 35 minutes, which I was really happy with. And the intervals definitely helped the time go faster!
This is a big week for me, too, as far as weightloss... I joined a biggest loser competition at work this month, and the last weigh in is on Monday. As of this past Monday, I was in 2nd place with a 2.12% weight loss. The 1st place person has 2.89%. I just weighed myself and I'm down another 1.8 pounds, which takes me to 2.9%!!! I hope I can keep it up!
I hope everyone is having a INCREDIBLE day!

Could everyone send some PD to my son who just started his new job. He came home very upset. He is bored and he has no one to talk to like he did at his old job. At his old job he knew everyone and could talk to them all. They were like his family. He is now in new territory. THere is alot to learn before the person he is working with goes on vacation on the 9th of May and I know he is scared. It doesn't help that the person who is training him is from India and his only interest is cricket. TIA

Dona - sending :wizard:to your son. Here's hoping his job improves quickly. Tell him to hang in there. I've gone through something like this before. It's tough at first but usually gets better. Hopefully, someday, he'll laugh about this with his new friends at his job.
TaraLee - I'm a little late - WELCOME! to our team. Congrats on the weight loss! :goodvibes
Patsy - :thumbsup2 Lookin' good!
I did a S-L-O-W half-marathon in OKC this past weekend and had a blast! It felt like a walk in the park with a couple of friends. I got the same medal as the first place finisher so I was happy. I could have gone faster but one of the girls in our little group hurt her foot earlier in the week so we took it slow.
One of the WISHers that finished way before I did got on to me (jokingly) after the race because I had told her that there weren't many hills on the course. Well, she counted every one of them and informed me there were 20 HILLS. I told her that if she would have been with my group, she wouldn't have noticed the hills because we were having a party in the back of the pack and we didn't notice any - well, maybe three or four. When it comes to course description, I don't think she's going to listen to me any more. :teeth:
Next up: Minneapolis Half, June 6.

Sometimes you need some of those fun races....just taking your good ole time. It is true you still get the same medal...what a sport! I did the same thing to a friend last year...convinced her to run a 5K with me and then in the first mile there was a HUGE hill :scared1: I swear it went on for 1/2 mile. Then there were about 4-5 other medium sized ones too. She was ready to kill me. Luckily she told me to go ahead and she finished 5 minutes behind me so I didnt have to listen to her complaining along the way. :rotfl2:

Hope everyone had a good day. I did good, ran faster on the TM than I have been, reached my 15 lbs lost milestone. Ate pretty well, only used 2 flex points for a treat.
No running tomorrow, but am going to mow the lawn when I get home from work. Supposed to be in the 80's on Saturday and high 70's on Sunday, looking forward to going out to run in shorts and t shirt instead of multiple layers of tech gear!!
Keep being INCREDIBLE ladies!!

Hi everyone hope your all having a great day. I am thrilled because I have off tomorrow and its going to be 85 and sunny :cool1: I plan on spending the day with my two boys. We have kindergarten registration for my 5 year old and a check up at the pediatrician for my 3yr old but otherwise we will be outside.
I am so proud of how well I am eating this week. I have amazed myself....I knew having something disney as my motivation would work....so far so good. I actually have 7 points left that I need to find something good to eat. Not the greatest hour to be eating but I just got done running so I dont want to not eat the right amount of calories.
My running was good tonight. C25K w5d2. I did 2miles in 25:40. a little more than a minute faster than my last run. Its a start. One question I have for anyone.....does your treadmill smell like rubber burning after awhile. Im not sure if something is wrong or if its normal for it to do this. We have been using it for a year or two and I dont remember noticing it before. It made me a little nervous. Any thoughts?

:thumbsup2 Way to Go Veronica!!!! You are doing awesome and giving me lots of inspiration on the weight loss!
Dona Glad your son had a better day at work. It's no fun feeling overwhelmed with a new job.
Susie I like the half marathons where there's not pressure on the finish time.....I seem to finish those in a lot less pain and feeling a lot better!
Hubby and I are up at Squaw Valley (Lake Tahoe) for a couple of days so no running for me.....still a lot of snow and COLD! We don't ski but maybe I can convince him to do some hiking in the snow.
Happy Friday to All!

Hello Incredibles!
I've been absent from the boards recently - at least this side of them! - because I've been preoccupied with wedding planning. That's under control now, but we've decided on doing a Disneymoon (can you say YAY?!) so that's been my most recent obsession.
Now that things have calmed down, I can focus on running again! I've run sporadically this month, not as often as I'd wanted. Maybe once or twice a week. I did a nice 4.15 mile run today so I feel like I'm back in the game! Hope everyone is doing well, see you in the May thread!
