Good morning, Hakuna Matata!

Hope this new month finds you all well and in great spirits! You are all the best of the best. We should never underestimate the joys of a great team.

I am working and working out. The farm is requiring lots of time and my DD's problems are still center stage. But hopefully, I will be back regularly soon!

To new people, welcome, welcome, welcome!

Happy Spring, everyone.

Multi Vitamins

Connie-not taking a multi vitamin

Dave- who else takes a multi vitamin every day besides me?

Denise- started a vitamin program about a month ago

Jennifer- GNC vitapaks everyday

Kim- 1 multi, 1 vitamin C, 1 omega 3-6-9 each night, and I put 1 tbsp of ground flax in my oatmeal each morning

Kristy- flax oil, evening primrose oil, floravital, extra B's, and protein powder

Margie- Multi Vitamins for Women 50 plus Advantage

Mary- Shaklee Vita-Lea Gold. (for those that are 50+) I see on their website that they also make a version without vitamin K for those of you that can't have it.

Mike- I used to take multi vitamin before I was put on blood thinners.
I can't take anything with vitamin K in it as it messes with my INR (thinning).
No spinach, broccoli, or garlic either. Muscle Milk after every hard workout; lots of protein; easy on the carbs.

Scott & Lynn- both take multi vitamins plus vitamin C, B complex, B12, gingko, omega 3,6,9, and several other things daily

Sue- multi, vitamin C, calcium with vitamin D, omega 3/6/9 (3x)

Vicky-multi vitamin, a calcium/magnesium, and Omega 3

Hi all!
I wanted to post here and ask a question, but I don't see my name on the team list...

I thought I was added to Hakuna Mutata

Anyway, if I am posting in the right spot, I'm hoping someone can help me out with eating info pre-half marathon...

What is usually the suggested meal plan/eating plan? Do you have a fairly good size meal the night before but not too late and what about the morning of? I have type 1 diabetes, so the morning thing might be slightly different for me but I wanted to ask here as I'm trying to figure out our ADR's for that trip.

I have not been keeping up with my walking and working out but will start again soon. And am still motivated to try and do my best in the half. That being said, I have not registered yet either. When does registration for the half usually close? The $ for us is kind of tight right now and we would be registering both me and DH.

Anyway, just wanted to check in, say hi to the team and ask those couple of questions.

Thanks!:goodvibes

Lorelai, you are in the right place.

I am the captain, but have been having some serious problems lately. So, I haven't kept up as I should have.

Welcome to the team!

Lorelai welcome.

I'm a walker and I do my best walking if I have a breakfast before I start. If I'm going full out hard I'll have a bagel with jelly and a banana, coffee and a glass of water. If I'm going long and slow I'll have eggs and sasuage and hash browns.

I did 5 miles this morning at 12:30 pace and then a pool workout.

Hi everyone! Just a quick fly-by for me today. Heading off to the gym after work for a 1/2 hour training session. On Saturday, I'm going to see my chiro to see if he can work his magic and fix my ankle. I tried walking 3 miles yesterday and had ankle pain the whole walk so I think running is definitely out for now.

Margie - Put me down for the Toronto Pearson Runway Run (5K) on June 19! I'll jot down the rest of my race dates down for you tonight!

Connie - Good to hear from you again! for you and DD!

Lorelei - I usually have oatmeal with brown sugar or maple syrup, a whole wheat bagel with natural peanut butter and jam and a yogurt or cottage cheese. I find the protein and oatmeal help to keep me from feeling hungry during a race. If you're going to be running, you'll want to bring a gel or some chews with you. I found that once I started speeding up, I needed a little bit more sugar while out on course. Don't forget your water too!

Sue/Kim - Great weather in the forecast this weekend! Any plans for the long weekend? I can't wait to finish work today!

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Good Afternoon Team!

Lorelai, Welcome!
The 1/2 fills much earlier than the full. Late April last year if I remember correctly. If you go to the official disney marathon website it usually gives a % of where each race stands in terms of registration.
During training you will need to tryout different eating plans & what will work for you.
For me I stay away from high fat foods. Mostly carbs & protein. I have a good meal the night before (chicken / fish). Race morning is oatmeal. I'm a tea drinker not coffee & couldn't do this prerace. I would need to stop at every port-o-pottie.
Because race day transportation starts early & you are waiting for a couple of hours pre race I have a small energy bar or fig cookie.
I would google running/ walking with diabetes. There is a wealth of info out there on sports drinks/ gels/gus etc. & maintaining blood sugar levels during exercise.

Margie, I'm only doing 1 race Mississauga & it's May 9th. Thanks
Do you have family plans for Easter?

Connie, :flower3:Glad you popped in today! Great to hear from you.

Vicky, Are you working Monday? I'm the only one in my department.
How's the ankle doing?

We are going to Niagara Falls for the weekend.
Get out & enjoy the great spring weather.
Happy Easter!...........Sue

Avoid Blisters:

Regina- Shared: I just returned from the gym and doing my 9/1 run/walks and I'm feeling pretty good. The only problem is that I am starting to get blisters, with the worst one on my first toe next to my big toe but it seems like maybe I'm only getting it when I run on the TM??? I'm still trying to figure it out and pin point the issue. I'm thinking maybe I need new running shoes?

Dave- I wear shoes that have no tight places, snug enough not to slip but not snug enough to be putting pressure anywhere. Then well fitting socks with seams that you can't feel. A sock with a seam you can feel is a good for a blister on a long run or walk. Buy good socks from a shoe company made for running or walking.

The way you put on your shoes matters also. I loosen my laces a lot, slip my foot in and then with the shoe flat against the floor pull my heel snugly against the back of the shoe. Then tighten the laces back up from the toe end smoothing them as I go up and not pulling them to tight over the top of my foot just snug, to tight here will cause damage to the nerve on top of your foot and can hurt it for a long time. Then when the laces are snug double knot them. All the time I'm tightening the laces the heel is pressed firmly against the back of the shoe. This way there is not slippage on the heel as your run or walk.

Another good way to avoid blisters is to make sure you care for your feet. Regular lotion keeps you from having rough places. Blisters are a result of friction and rough dry skin on your feet cause more friction than smooth soft skin. Yes, guys keeping your nails cut and your feet lotioned isn't just a girl thing. It can save you problems when you do a lot of miles.

If you feel any tight places when you have your shoe laced and ready to go that's where you might get a blister. Your laced shoe should actually feel like you have nothing on your feet at all.

Kim- I use to get horrible blisters but now I just use those socks with the double layers at least for long walks and my problems seem to have gone away.

Margie- Blisters- My feet swell- I am Blister Prone
So my shoes are a size larger and go from B width to D;
Wright Socks; Body Glide; over 10-miles and I still need
to tape area under big toes. I have used Duck Tape successfully.

Mary- As far as the blister question goes, that in one thing that has never been a problem for me. I have lost four toenails to date though, in spite of trying different shoes and different ways of lacing my shoes.

Mike- Regina, if you are getting blisters, then yes it's time to find some different shoes, also technical socks might help too. Find a running store near you, or make the investment of a long drive if you have to. They should be able to fit you with a shoe that not only fits, but also is catered to your running movement. They should watch you as your run to see how your feet and legs move.

Different shoes can make a huge difference, and I have my personal favorites.
I tend to pronate (roll) my right foot a lot. I think I may have one leg longer then the other. Also, one foot is a half size larger. No, I'm not a mutant!

Regina- I plan on getting some body glide and new shoes

Sue- not only is it blister care but general foot care.
They take such a beating crammed into shoes for so many miles each week.

I've been fortunate to stay away from blisters, but I've had a purple nail from time to time. The keys as Dave has already mentioned. Good fitting shoes & socks. I love my "Wright" socks (double layer & foot hugging). Body Glide every potential rub or pressure point on the foot.

My #1 absolute must do indulgence is a pedicure about every 6 weeks.
Keep the nails short & skin smooth.

Hi everyone! Happy April! Does anyone have any fun plans for Easter?

Did anyone get "April fooled"?

It's been crazy weather over here- rain one minute, snow in the next and then sunshine. Luckily when it has rained/snowed it has cleared up to nice weather by the time I run in the evening.

I ran Tuesday and today. Today my Nike + told me I ran 3.45 miles and averaged a 9:30 pace. I'm pretty pleased with that since I'm just starting out. I'm feeling pretty good with things so far. My friend ran with me today and it went well. We finished just as it was starting a light sprinkle!

Vicky- Thanks for the heads up on the running warehouse! I'll be sure to check it out once I make it to the running store and get fitted for my shoes and whatnot.

Mike- Thanks for your feedback. I'm feeling pretty good. I don't think I'm overtraining- right now I'm only running 3 days a wk and am about to up it to 4 days. I don't plan to run oveer 4 days a week and will be lifting weights the other 2 days. Sometimes a knee or ankle may hurt but it's very minor and not a consistent thing and doesn't always hurt. I think part of it is that I haven't been working to build some of these muscles I never really thought about. I haven't had any other issues, but will watch to see how it goes.

Lorelei- Welcome! I'm new to the team and can tell you this team is great at answering your questions, encouraging you, and making you feel welcome!

Hope you all have a wonderful evening!!

Finally a great evening in NH and we did 4 miles. Some sore parts today but a good sore not bad for a really good powerwalk.

Usually we talk and stroll but last night we talked for the first mile then our music on and off we went. It keeps us focused.

Friday and this week went by like a vacation week. Weeeeeeeee....very busy at work so it does make the time go rather quickly.

Today I have a 2hr lunch and we're off to bring the princess to meet the Easter Bunny. Now that should be interesting.

Have a good one.

Lots to do today. First off - coffee, then 4 or 5 miles and shopping for dinner tonight and other important items like cat food. It's a beauty here in NH, cool this morning and it will warm up throughout the day.

Bought a new charcoal grill last night, we have a gas grill but Nick wanted the "real" thing so off to Lowe's we went and found a nice grill with a lot of good features including a built in bottle opener - now that seems like a necessity?! I'm sure he'll be over at some point to put the thing together so we can fire it up for steaks tonight.

Well, it's time to go, see ya.

Hi everyone! Got my ankle looked at today my chiro. He said it's a grade 1 sprain :( I can still run on it if I tape it up but I'm thinking I'm better off giving my body a chance to heal. Really harder than it sounds - I was out early this morning and saw a ton of people out and running *sigh* Meanwhile, I was off to the bakery and the mall

Sue - Nope, I'm in on Monday too :( I thought Monday was only a holiday for the federal government. A four day weekend with this weather would have been nice!

Regina - I couldn't think of any good April Fool's jokes this year but people at work are generally serious so I'm not sure if anything funny would have gone over well. WTG on your run! You sound like a speedy runner!

Lynn - pixiedust: for your cold! Hope you feel better soon!

Dave - Based on the weather we had this year, I think winter skipped Canada this season. It must have seen the "Go Away!" sign we left up ;)

Got up really early to hide the easter eggs out in the backyard and then everyone slept in! Silly squirrels got to some of them before Robert did! :rotfl2: I haven't seen them most of the day. I think they all have tummy aches from the chocolate and jelly beans. Little theives! :sad2:

Dave~ You too, buddy!

Kirstie~ How did your egg hunt go?

Jack~ Hope all is well on the East coast!

Lynn~ Hope you feel better soon. I am still feeling congested from 4 week ago. It just won't go away all the way!

Jennifer~ We have HUGE gluten free section at the store where I work. If there are any certain products that you are looking for, let me know and we can always work something out. Our store does not have a website, but I can always buy the items and ship them to you ups.

Thunderstorm moving in right now! First one of the year that I can recall- Mike :cool2:

Margie I have 3 races in Nov, as long as I get in to NYC.

The egg hunt was fun, the only problem was that the kids did not like some of the candy I got.

I'm gluten free and vegan, with lots of other food allergies, so if anyone wants to know about GF / allergy food let me know.

Good morning team.

Yesterday was restful, just an easy 3 mile walk to stay loose and then a nice dinner of Elk. Sally's Sister's Hubby is a hunter so they always have wild game in the freezer.

Today will be extra busy with two workouts, speed intervals this morning and then I'm meeting a DisneyRunning Buddy, that I walked some of the Goofy with last January, for a good 6 mile training walk. Not sure how my body will react to double training session but I'm hoping that adding it once a week I'll get stronger.

Have a magical day y'all.

Good Morning:

It was a busy Easter weekend but so nice here in the Northeast. Well into the 70’s which is unheard of in April. We grilled, ate outside and enjoyed the days. Got in a 4 mile walk on Saturday and another on Sunday night. Each day I feel stronger. It doesn’t take too much time to get back into the rhythm. I usually take Monday off from walking, especially since I just did 2 days. Depends on how things are tonight once I get home.

Hope all of you have a good week of training.

Speed intervals went great, 2 mile brisk walk to warm up, 5 X 200m sprints between 59 and 60 sec each, 2 mile brisk walk to cool down.

Focus today was good technique at speed.

Margie I didn't kill it, it was just what we were served. I haven't killed anything since the 70s.

Good Morning Team!

Thanks for the well-wishes. Cold is still with me - I took today off from work again. I plan to try a slow dog walk later in the day to see if I can build back some stamina. I have lost 3 pounds in 4 days. I have been drinking lots of water, so it cannot be water weight. I have not been eating as much as usual, but also not doing any activity. I just hope I can keep those pounds off when I get going again! I am just afraid it is really muscle loss, and will go right back on when I start working out again.

Dave and Kim - good luck with both your goals!

Dve - we used to eat elk all the time when we first lived here in Wyoming - Scott would get an elk every year and it kept us in meat thru the year. Then it got to be more expensive to take the time off to hunt than to buy meat, and I guess Scott did not enjoy it as much, so he quit hunting, so no elk here lately.

Hope the east coast gets a chance to dry out before the next bout of rain. It is nice here today, but we are expecting rain and snow tomorrow.

Have a great week all!

I had a nice surprise, I got my car insurance bill and it was $283.00 for 6 months. After having a daughter on my policy, that thought her calling in life was to wreak cars, that seemed so cheap. I hurried up and mailed it in before they changed their mind. That was on the Mustang to. We have had bills as high as $2300 for six months. Maybe this being single does have it's benefits. Margie, No extended weekend just really busy to post.

Mike, Hope you feel better soon.

Had a great long run on Sat. I ran from Niagara Falls along the Niagara River to my inlaws. Fantastic weather & view.

Gym was closed & classes cancelled last night. So I missed out on yoga but went for a run instead. The wind was strong. It felt like I was running in slow motion.

The rain has stopped but we might be getting more this afternoon. I will have to wait & see if I run tonight.

Hi team! Rainy weather and grey skies here... What happened to the sunshine? I want to wear my sandals. Went to the gym for training last night. More deadlifting and metabolic exercises. I've now incorporated the 135 lb weight into a regular set of deadlifts so I can't wait to move onto the heavier weights. I'm still not confident enough to go running so I think I might start waking up early and going for walks.

Gerry - Good luck with your 5K this weekend!

Sue - Here's hoping the weather clears up! Must be some nice running routes out in Niagara... do your inlaws live on the Canadian or American side?

Margie - Thanks! If I can't be the fastest runner out there, at least I can try to be cute! How's little Hagen doing? Hope he's feeling better!

Kim - Doesn't gardening count as exercise? I've helped my mom weed before and it's not easy. Not to mention carrying around the hose, soil bags and tools... Are you going to join the BL challenge on the weight loss thread? Keep us posted on your progress!

Mike - pixiedust: for your cold! Hope you're feeling better soon!

Jennifer - Those are fantastic goals! I think I asked before but which grade are you teaching this year?

Good Morning:

I spend all afternoon looking out the window at work yesterday, hoping the rain would stop and sure enough it did so we were able to go out for our miles. 4 miles with a total of 16 for the month so far! My goal of 20 per week is coming along nicely. Can already feel it in my slacks.

Today it will be above 80 and tomorrow it will be 40. New England - gotta love it. I hope their is a breeze tonight, 80 is a bit hot for me.

Nick and Hope were at the house yesterday making ribs. They were fab! I had mine with green beans. Not your normal side dish but better for me than french fries.

I saw the pictures of the ribs on facebbook Denise, green beans are a great side dish. I get the veggies you can just throw in the microwave and steam in their bag and ten eat them with a lean meat or fish. My diet isn't surpreme but living alone in an apartment I tend to eat a lot of frozen dinners, quick and easy with no clean up.

Today's group training was totally awesome. There is one really intense hill coming from the river to the main road, about a 400m steep climb. This morning I decided it was time to make this hill mine. I attacked it hard and left my walking group behind. That was only part of it, I wasn't slowing at the top to catch my breath and go easy for a little bit. Hell no I got to the top and kicked into over drive and flew effortlessly down the road. I ended up about a quarter mile ahead of my group that's chugging along at a 12 mpm pace, so I finally slowed to allow them to catch up. Then the last couple of hundred yards we all sprinted and I still had enough fire to win easily. It was a very satisfying walk and every week I amaze myself at how much I've improved.

Anyway, today was awesome for me thanks for listening.

Hope- You have not told your Mom you wrecked her car? :rolleyes1

Oh no. She hit her midlife crisis when I was driving age and got a sporty car to go with it. That's the car I put against the tree. I was sure my dad was going to drown me (if it wasn't for the tree, we probably would have been in the creek), and that would be merciful compared to what Mom would have done to me. So, she passed away never figuring out where she got those scrapes and I was glad to never admit what I did. Dad never told her either.

I've told this story numerous times, and she still hasn't struck me with lightning. But maybe she was the reason that Nick slid my car (yes, I own a car and I never got my license) into a trailer full of explosives. Nick is fine, and the car had damage on the driver's side rear.

Margie, Thanks for your positive comments! I'm Teach for America so I started all this with no teaching experience (unless you count Sunday School). I'm still not sure whether I'll stay after the two year committment.

Today was a half-day teacher work day. So I actually enjoyed a nice 5 mile run along the river until I was chased by dogs and cat-called by three different pickup trucks (including one that was a little two stalkerish for comfort). Time 46 minutes (the aforementioned situations caused some slow downs)

Best,

I battle constantly with a bad achillies. I have to always be careful even how I step off curbs and climb stairs. I stretch and ice it frequently and do exercises that strengthen my ankle area. I only walk train hard every other day so I have rest and recovery time, my other days are pool days so i can keep loose and work the rest of my body.

Today was pool day and since it's raining that's great. I have to work a 12 hr shift also so let it rain.

Hi everyone! The weekend is almost here! Lots of rain and grey skies here this week. I'm okay with the rain on the weekdays as long as we get lots of sunshine for the weekend! I'm off to the gym tonight for a quick 1/2 hour training session. I might get a new workout buddy for a couple of weeks. We have an actor that we need to get in shape in about 3 months so he might be working out with me on Mondays. Should be interesting!

The no refined sugar is going well so far but then again it's only day 4  No cravings yet for sweets, breads or fried foods. If anyone is looking to lose some weight, we're doing a Biggest Loser challenge over on the weight loss thread :) It's 6 weeks long and you get to set your own weight loss target.

Kirstie - pixiedust: for your arm! Here's hoping that Ben will be able to make the repairs in time. I forget that Boston is right around the corner. For some reason, it doesn't feel like April.

Scott - Great job on the two miles! Safe travels home!

Regina - I don't know much about Nike+. I have read that you have to make sure it's carefully calibrated. I'm guessing you would do that on a treadmill or if you know the exact distance of a route. Do you know anyone with a GPS watch? Maybe you can borrow one and see how the time/distance on the watch compares to the Nike+.

Jennifer - Those drivers who honk and yell things are so annoying!!

Hope - Yikes! That sounds like it could have been dangerous!

Mike - Hope you're able to do the 5K this weekend!

Sue - Sorry to hear about the cancelled class. That's crummy. The ankle is on the mend but I still notice it being achy when I'm in certain positions. If I'm sitting in the car (passenger side) and I let my legs tilt to one side, it still puts "pressure" on my ankle which isn't comfortable at all. I'm just afraid that I'm going to lose all of my running endurance by the time I'm able to run :(

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

2 years ago when I was training for the 2009 ½ in Disney, and getting in shape for my dd’s wedding, I was averaging 20 miles per week and was in great shape. I told myself that I really need to get back to that, even if I don’t have a 1/2 to train for but I do have a Cancun vacation to get in shape for. My niece is getting married there in July. So I have a few months.

March 31, I started with less than stellar results. It was raining so I used my treadmill. My snuffle was dead, not charged, so I used my iphone, which I kept dropping, not good for an iphone so I just decided it was not in the cards for me that night.

April 1st it was nice enough so I went out for 4 miles and have tried to stick to my schedule of 2 days on 1 day off and use my shuffle after mile 1 with Mark. We talk for the first mile and then the music goes for the remainder till cool down. It keeps me focused and faster. I can already see a difference in my clothes, today after months of slacks, I put on a skirt and heels. Good thing Mark leaves way earlier than me for work…

I have been blessed with a week of no evening appts – which is rare so that has helped a lot. Soon the temps will be too high for me and I’ll be good enough to walk in the morning before work. Once I’m in shape, I won’t feel the need to nap at 2PM.

Well, boss has arrived so I’m outta here.

See ya!

denise

P.S. A great hint for dogs. We do encounter them on our walks in the evenings and they run barking to us too. My way to “get rid of them” I yell, Go Get Your Toy” and they either look at me strangely or run to get their toy. By the time their back, I’m long gone.

Good Morning:

A day of rest last night really helped me. I was pooped! Today I feel pretty darn good.

As far as my quilts go I have one at the machine quilter waiting for it to be returned. My BIG quilt has returned from the machine quilter and I have to finish that one. It is so big that a picture won't be taken until we put it on the quilt rack - hang it in good light and take pictures but that will have to wait till I'm done with my current one - it too for a quilt show in May. I am running out of time but if it doesn't get done, Oh Well! Its more important for the big one to be done and that requires a lot of hand sewing to finish it is 104x105 so many hours of stitching.

Not sure what today holds for me in training. Depends on my attitude. I wanted to go to Maine for the day tomorrow but if that doesn't happen, I may opt for 5 miles and not go tonight. We'll see...........

Have a good Friday and a FAB weekend.

I'm up before 5 this morning doing laundry, I've been working so much this week that I'm getting pressed for time. I'm meeting another walker for speed intervals at 7am then after a nap off to work again.

Should people who ride a bike without a helment be locked up for their own safety? This is our opinion question of the week.

Good Morning Team! :wave2:

:cold: Snow on the roofs this morning! Cloudy, windy to 25 mph, but sunshine for the afternoon with a high of 51°.

Carrie (WISHer wtpclc) had a wonderful lunch with Carrie yesterday- told her you said hi Vicky.

Question on bike helmets – define bikes. :moped:
If we locked eveyone up for their own safety- who would feed us?
Road, mountain, triathlon bikes – way different category motorcycles.

I wear one with my Trek road bike – and it has was damaged once when I
was knocked off my bike when a little girl ran into me from the side.

Michigan does, but some state do not require you wear a helmet on motorcycles

Here's my two cents on the helmet question:

I used to think that helmets for bicycle riders were unnecessary. After all, I never wore one as a child and lived to tell about it (including one nasty fall on a hill near my house.) However, a friend once showed me his helmet after a wreck, and there is no question that the helmet saved him from serious injury, so now I am all for them.

As far as motercycles go, definitely! Unfortunately, Indiana is one of the states that does not require helmets. :confused3 I always liked what my sister's first husband would say to riders that weren't wearing helmets. He was in med school studying to be a neurosurgeon, and when he'd pull up alongside someone not wearing a helmet at a traffic light, he would roll down his window and shout "I'll see you in surgery, buddy!"

Beautiful day here! I've all ready been to the gym, so I'm going to get the laundry started, then go for a walk/jog. Happy Friday everyone!

I just returned from my speed intervals session. We did 5 X 400m at: 2:29 2:26 2:32 2:32 2:25 The 2:25 was I think the fastest this year. All told we walked 5 miles with warm up and cool down.

Happy Friday everyone! Did a 1/2 hour of training at the gym last night - no deadlifting just metabolic exercises with not too much rest in between. It was a really good butt kick! No big plans for the weekend. I have to go the Apple store and hopefully have my iPhone replaced. The volume keeps dropping out on calls so in the middle of a call, the person I'm talking to can hardly hear me.

Margie - I always like to think that if I can lose extra weight, I can run faster. There are certain parts of me that I'd like to tone up. I've never really been able to lose inches from my thighs or my stomach. So if I don't lose pounds, I'm hoping for inches. My short term goal is 5 pounds in the BL challenge. That would put me down at 134 lbs.

MaryJ - I have a doctor friend who thinks that way about motorcycles as well. Actually he calls them donor cycles... as in anyone who gets into an accident is going to be an organ donor. I think that's a bit harsh but most people I know with a motorcycle have been in some kind of an accident.

Bike question - I think everyone should wear a helmet if they're on a bike and especially on a motorcycle. Actually, I think anyone on a motorcycle, should also wear a full motorcycle suit. A friend of mine had an accident where he fell off his bike and went sliding down the road. Lucky for him he was in the proper gear and not jeans.

Sue - How's training going with all the rainy weather? And now today it's just chilly and windy :( I found out one of the girls who sits near me is planning to run the Mississauga 1/2!

Have a great weekend everyone! :wave2:

Kirstie~ I'm sorry you are having so many troubles! :sad2: I wish there was a way I could help!

Regina~ Great job with the 30 minute runs. Knew you could do it!

Dave~ Great workouts!

Vicky~ I preach about wearing a motorcycle helmet! I was a motorcycle safety instructor for a few years. But self safety is a personal issue. I don't think it needs to be mandated by the government. If it was up to them nobody would sky dive, bungee jump, scuba dive, or surf. If I'm not endangering anyone else, let me make my own choices. Just my two cents... I could go on for hours! Love to talk bikes and riding!

Denise~ Good job with your workouts also, don't know if I can manage 20 miles a week.

Thanks everyone for the well wishes to feeling better! -Mike:cool2:

Good morning everyone! The weather the last couple days has been in the 50's with no rain, snow, hail. I must say I am enjoying it!! :woohoo:

Yesterday I had another 30 minute run. I really really need to start weight training at the very least, but I can't seem to find the time w/my crazy work schedule. Next week my schedule is so bad that I'm working until 7:30p-8p on 3 out of the 5nights and I'm just not good enough at mornings to do an AM workout. Will have to figure something out though???:confused3 I need to make it a priority.

Denise- Thanks for the "hint" on dogs! I'll give that a try if I come across any in the future.

Mike- Thanks! :cheer2:Good luck at your race tomorrow!!:cheer2:

Kirstie- I am so sorry to hear about your part not working when it came in and that you are unable to race today (and about Boston). I can imagine how frustrated and upset you are. I hope things get a little better for you soon!

Vicky- Yes, I may have to get another tool to measure my distance and time. Guess I'll be doing some research on that.

Gerry- :cheer2:Good luck at your race today!:cheer2:

Bike question: I agree with Mike. I think everyone SHOULD wear helmets and if I were riding would wear one, but I also believe it is a personal decision and not something that should be government mandated. I think each person as an individual should be able to make that decision on their own.

What types of distance/time measurement tools does everyone else use and how expensive are they?

Good Morning:

Had a very nice weekend. Went to Cabela's in Maine with Mark. We had never been and it was a beautiful day for a ride to Maine and then see the coast on the way back home.

It's nice to get away - just the 2 of us and have some couple time. Then on Sunday, the Queen and Princess came over. Our son Nick also came by. It was a fun day. Miranda and I did get in 5 miles. No records were set for speed because the stroller came along too, but it was a pleasant way for the princess to get in a nap.

Have been neglecting my paperwork duties for Mark's business so I did that last night. A busy time but also, very rewarding.

My best to all for the week. I have two evening appts this week so I may do my walks before work to get them in.

Hey team....sorry for the MIA. Setting up fitness programs, actually doing them and making meals in advance is very time consuming :rolleyes1

I am on day 2 of P90X. I haven't officially started the program, as I will not have access to a DVD player for a few days so decided to do some of the tapes and get in full force at the end of May after my 1/2.

Got out for a 4.5K walk yesterday in 45 mins, it was on the slow side but I just did the P90X plyo so legs where a bit tight. Both feel started to hurt, more around the middle...arch kinda area but wasn't the heels for a change, maybe that problem has worked it self out....I hope.

50 min training walk on tap for tonight.

Hope you are all doing awesome and have a great Monday!!!!

Hi everyone :wave2:

My Dh took my chair in to the shop that works on them locally and they spent 2.5 hours working on it and could not get it to work, just the same as Dh.

We have called the company we got it from and they have told us that it works and to take it to a shop!!!!!!:scared1:

We are trying to get them to tell use where they are based as on line they have an address in RI and when they ship you things it comes from Main. :confused3

We need to know as we are going to leave tomorrow night, once my Mom's flight gets in and drive to them and demand they fix it.

I have got the numbers of the local news in case I need to contact them about it, perhaps if I can shame them they might fix me!!!!!

With us driving up my Dd is going to miss her B'day party, this will be the first B'dsy she has not spent in a disney park. :sad1:

I'm busy trying to pack and clean, as my Mom will freak at the state of our house, as well as keep my Dd on her usual monday routine, we where not ment to be leaving until thursday, so I thought I had mor time!

My arm is still not right, but I can move it now. If I get to race I will be taking my morphine before I start and hope its enough to get me through.:rolleyes1

It really hurts that these people know that I might not be around for next years Boston marathon, yet they still will not help, but where happy to take my $$$$$.:sad2: :sad1:

Hi Everyone,
Ran my 5K yesterday and had a good time. It was fun to run on the streets that I learned how to ride my bike on, past my old bus stop, and places where I used to fish. My Mom came to the end of our block to watch the runners go by and I got to stop and give her a hug in the middle of the street. My family has been in the same house since 1948! So, it was pretty cool to be a local yokel for once!
I finished in the middle of the pack again 177/347 in 30:18 by my watch. I was disappointed that they didn't use chip timing, only gun time, which means it took me and extra 30 seconds or so just to start. I passed alot of people on the steep hills as I had prior knowledge of when to conserve my strength. The pancake breakfast provided afterwards was quite tasty!

-----------------------

Regina~ I use a Polar 300X watch with a heart rate transmitter and a foot pod to measure distance. Yesterday the pod was right on at 3.1 miles exactly. My wife got it for me on my birthday, but I think you can get them for about $185. You can also get a GPS unit instead of the footpod but I've read mixed reviews about them and they are over $100 extra. Also a gizmo can be bought for your computer to load all the info from your workouts to a program on your computer by setting the watch on it. It reads the signal from the watch and automaticly enters it. I think it's about $50.

My computer is acting weird since we upgraded our Internet Explorer to version 8.0. My cursor keeps disappearing while I type and the words don't appear right away! Real pain in the butt! Anyone know any fixes? Virus scans turn up negative.

Good morning team! Happy Monday! Hope everyone had a great weekend! We had some really nice weather here - not hot but nice and sunny! I got out for a couple of 3 mile walks. Ankle seems to be feeling better but I'll give it to the end of the month to rest. Got my iPhone swapped on Saturday for a new one at the Apple store. Didn't have much time to look around the store so I missed the iPad. Btw, the Apple store is much nicer to deal with than the cell phone company. I also started working on my taxes and realized that the birthday "present" my dad gave me last year is being claimed by him as a business expense ... so I'm paying taxes on it. Gee thanks! Going in for my training session tonight and will be working out with my PT and of the actors for our next project. Should be fun to have some extra competition :)

Question for the bakers in on our team: Can I substitute peanut butter for natural peanut butter in a recipe 1:1? I wasn't sure if I needed to make adjustments since regular PB has added salt, sugars and oil. I was a little more worried the natural PB would be a little more runny as well. Anyone know?

Mike - Great job on the 5K! That's so sweet that you stopped and gave your mom a hug in the middle of the race! I had some other weird problem with IE 8 so I just ended up uninstalling it. I downloaded Chrome and Firefox instead and both of those work great!

Regina - I use a Garmin 405. It's a little more than some of the other Garmin models but I got it as a gift. I don't have experience with the other models so I can't comment. If you have an iPhone, there are similar programs that track your pace, distance etc. Not sure of the accuracy compared to the GPS watches though.

Kirstie - That sounds incredibly frustrating! Would the local teams be able to recommend a different repair shop? Sending some early birthday wishes to Briar Rose! Sorry her birthday won't be at WDW :(

Kim - I read an article a while ago about a Canadian elite runner who made all of her meals on the weekend and then stored them in the fridge. She said it was easier that way because her family could eat whenever they wanted without her being there and she'd know they were eating good meals. It sounds like a good idea but a lot of work too! I love plyo exercises too! How's training going for the May 1/2?

Sue - How's training for Mississauga going?

Gerry - Congrats on your 5K!

Have a great day everyone!

Today is a day of errands for me. Started with a pool workout then breakfast from the hospital cafe. Now I'm doing laundry and icing my achillies. When the wash is done I'm off to get a hair cut and then a car wash for the mustang. Finally a nap, then drive to Nashville to walk with a couple of other race walkers, 6 miles on the hills. After walking sally and I are going for supper and a movie.

Syko, you just can't catch a break can you. You should call the local news and let them know, if you have those problems I would assume all chair athletes do.

Todays question: Getting a haircut, pleasure or a pain in the butt for you?

Good Morning to all!!!

Lovely day with great breeze here in Sunny central FLA

Anyone else run on a 'packed' sand course prior? The course was uneven at best with some pretty thick loose sand. I thought i did pretty good but time wasnt as good as I thought I was pushing myself??

Also after the race my pedometer read some 5000 steps while my wife's said 8000??

I walked two miles last night around the pond behind my house.

I may squeeze another 5k in next week or so? Still a little sore from weekend

Thanks and good luck to all!

Good Monday Morning Team!

Hope everyone had a great weekend.

Mike, Nice race result!

Kristie, Hope you get the results you need to get your chair fixed.

Kim, Heres con'td pd for your feet. I can't remember if you went to the dr & what the diagnoses was?

Regina, I'm a garmin 305 user. Love it. Prices in Canada are always way more but it was money well spent.

Vicky, What great weather we had on the weekend. Not feeling 100% so only did 10 instead of 20 on Sun. Only 2 more long runs before tapering for Miss. The time is going by too quickly.
With the pb. I think you just have to make sure that the oil on top gets stirred completely. It also changes the texture of the cookie but I don't think it makes them more runny.

Dave, Hair cut is always a pleasure. Any girlie pampering is always nice.

I'm late on answering the helmet question. Helmets are a must. I'm a head injury survivor because I was wearing one. Can't imagine how screwed up I'd be if I wasn't wearing one.

AFM is the usual Mon. night yoga class.
Have a great day everyone.........Sue

Good morning, Team!

Bet you all thought that I had abandoned you. I did, sort of.

All the problems still exist. Hopefully, they are sorting themselves out as time goes by. You never know, though. If I have learned anything in the past 53 years; it's that the only thing I really have any control over is me and some days, I have no control there either!

My foot is improving, but workouts are still really hard for me. Although, I have been doing more bike riding. Hopefully, this tendonitis stuff will be in my past someday! I have the OKC Memorial Marathon on April 25 and haven't trained for it. Fortunately, it is VERY walker friendly and there's 7 hours to do it! :rotfl: No stress, no pressure! I purchased Kinesio tape and that does a really good job of supporting the muscles and the tendons. I will be using it the day of the race.

My weight loss is going great. I am now down 14 pounds!!! The thyroid meds and the sugar busting, has turned it around for me! Soon I will be sporting a great new ME!

I have read your posts and tried to keep up with you!

See ya, Connie

Hi Connie, good to see your still there, I was getting worried about you. Yep life can generally suck at times but there is light at the end of the tunnel. Sometimes you just have to keep swimming through the poo to get to that light though. I'm actually beginning to believe that myself.

Congratulations on the 14 lbs, Go Connie!!!!

Well I survived the haircut and the car wash, but forgot to stop for dryer sheets and bike helmet, darn it!

Vicky....nope not ready for May,feet are really bugging me again. I am going to use my new shoes tomorrow, I think I have just used these ones a little to long. Glad your ankle is coming around!!!!

Sue: It is a bone spur apparently hasnt bothered me much but now that I have amped up the workouts it is starting to hurt again. Need to work on the stretching.

Hey Connie how you doin':hug: miss ya around here!!!

Dave: Hate getting my hair cut....just a waste of time to me so I don't go very often. My hair is so thin It gets to a point where it is always in a pony tail then it ticks me off and I go get it all cut off and then it starts again:hippie:

Slacking off today

Connie, Congrats, until the last month or two I'd never understood how hard it is!

I'm trying to get back down to my ideal racing weight (between 110-115). I am 5' 7" and 125 currently and I know that that is thin, but I also race my at the lowest end of normal (or even slightly underweight).

Dave, I agree with Sue . Haircuts are always a treat.

Not much going on here. I ran a little over two miles and did 20 minutes of pilates.

Best,
Jennifer

Todays question: Getting a haircut, pleasure or a pain in the butt for you?

Dave:hippie:

I love head rubbies, so it's such a pleasure. I also put my eyebrows on. I'm a natural icky blond, so my eyebrows disappear, and I dye them to match my red hair. Which leads to photos like this appearing on Facebook:
http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc3/hs049.snc3/13632_185447613753_513883753_2847105_197829_n.jpg

I could actually see my eyebrows...

Good morning team.

My body is telling me this morning that it's not totally happy with me. I met a couple of other race walkers in Nashville and we did 5.5 miles on continous hills. That which doesn't kill you......

Not sure what todays training will be, I think a nap first and then maybe a training walk.

Have a magical day y'all.

Woooohoooo! :woohoo: I am here two days in a row!!! Yea!

It has been super windy here! I really don't like the wind, but I can never really decide....does it blow? or suck? I guess it depends on which direction you're standing when your hat flies away!

We now have mules. My workout yesterday consisted of loading hay and unloading and stacking hay. I think that qualifies for a workout. :confused3

Kim, I have read that the best shoe for bone spurs is a cowboy boot. You up for that??? :rotfl: I just bought a pair of George Straight, Justine lace up ropers. They are wonderful!

Syko, how's that stinkin' chair coming? Do you hate it, yet? I know I would be!

Jennifer, thanks for the kind words of encouragement. Seems the older we get, the harder the weight clings. :scared1:

Margie, good talking with you! Thanks for stepping up and taking care of things in my absence!

Dave, nope, I am here. Can't get rid of me that easily. It's been a rough road the last year, many changes and many heart breaks. But I am still putting one foot in front of the other!

Hope, that's a great pic!

Haircuts and bike helmets - Haircuts....waste of time. I get once every year or two. My hair grows so fast that I can't keep it short, thus, it is long! Bike helmets....good. Not comfortable or fun, but good.

I haven't had my hair cut in 2 years, I want too, but when it comes to getting it done I say the $$ are better spent else where, so I have my hair up in a bun all the time.

We are leaving for Maine :scared1: tonight, we have to be there for 8am as the guy is going away on holiday that night.......so he had better get me working!!!!!

we have 3 drives, but I still think it is going to be tight on time.:scared:
If it was only us I think we could make it, but I can't expect my Dd to sit in the car for such a long time, so we will have to stop to run around.

I feel so guilty, my Dd is going to miss her B'day party, she always spends the day in the MK, this year she will be stuck in a car. We are going to celebrate it when we get back.

After my nap I was all over a 5 mile training walk on my hills here. It was 80 degrees so I got to get in some heat acclimation as well as a good walk on legs still tired form the Nashville hills. Walking pace was a relaxed 12:38 per mile.

My girlfriend Sally is finally divorced today after 2 years of seperation. Good chance we will set up housekeeping together as soon a Aug when her lease is up. Depends on how soon I find the perfect house. She is the one I've been dating since the middle of December.

She is an office manager in Nashville but if she moves here with me she will have to find a new job. Something flexible so we can have time to vist the mouse and our WISH buds.

Congrats to all that keep plugging along with their injuries. Jennifer 5 miles on the TM,:rolleyes1 I've done that and it pretty much sucks. Good Job.

Margie my weight is staying about 179, can't seem to get below that right now, but I'm going to get serious about that part of my training soon.

I asked a question in my Blog about what it takes to be one of the best in your sport at your age. Here is an answer I got from a woman who just won gold at the Masters World Cup in New Zealand.

Nyle Sunderland, "its attitude Dave!!! its training when its raining and loving it....its racing and coming second....then racing again and winning. Its passion and determination!!!! and being a little crazy helps I am told".

Good morning, Team!

KIm, the green boots are pretty cute! I can't wear that style, I have too high arch and can't get my foot in them. That's why I go for the lace ups! :lmao: I am finding them to be really good for my foot! -- I agree about yoga! How can you do it and figure out how to do it, if you can't see what you are supposed to be doing? Besides, I was never good with knots!

Margie, glad you have your tax thing worked out. I think taking a check to the post office to pay taxes should count as weight lifting. I paid last year's taxes off last month, I am now working on this year's. :guilty:

Dave, peace and good fortune. Hope things work the way they are supposed too. Looking for a good ferrier, does he do mules? :rotfl:

Kristy, Best of luck in your travels. Hope DD is tolerant of her birthday travels!

Sue, THanks for noticing I am still here! Lace ups are the greatest, especially when you can't get your darn foot in the other kind.

Jennifer, easy on those knees. This day and age you can get some more, but they aren't as good as the original!

Denise, good to hear your getting your workouts in. Soon I will be getting back into it. I am going to buy some new shoes today.

Scott, Lock of Love is a great organization. I have done that a couple of times.

Hello! Jack, Mike, Gerry, Lorelai, Pam, Robert, Vicky, Lynn, Scott, Eva, Hope, Regina and Eva!!!

AFM, I started my tomato and pepper plants yesterday for our garden. I don't like to buy the ones in the greenhouses. I just plant seeds in little peat pots and keep them in my garden wagon. That way I can pull them out of the shop for warmth and sunshine and put them back in at night to protect them. They seem to be much more hardy than the greenhouse ones, that way. I also went down and fed the mules, unfortunately, that's a 50 mile round trip. But I did make it to the bank and get license plates and a salad for lunch! Lucy, our brown mule, goes dotty over apples! Betty, the white mules, is kind of a shy creature but yesterday she finally got aggravated with Lucy and they had a kick off. Betty finally won.

I don't seem to have time for regular workouts. Some days, I am happy just to get a shower! But it will come. I just have to MAKE it happen. That's the hard part!

See ya - Connie

Hi everyone!

The beautiful weather just keeps getting better and better. Redbud trees are in full bloom and are lovely to see. All is going well with me, but not so much for DH. He was unhitching a trailer from his dad's truck, and dropped the hitch on his foot. Now he has a lovely bruise on the top of his foot, and he is registered for the Indy half on May 8th. That combined with hamstrings problems may knock him out.:sad1:

Kim...when you go looking for those green cowboy boots, remember to make sure they're pointy. As someone I once heard said, "If you can't kill a cockroach in the corner with them, they're not really cowboy boots!"

Jennifer...I feel your pain with the runner's knee. I have had issues with that since I began running 2 years ago. (of course I was a bit older...:rolleyes1)
Quad strengthening exercises help and I've found that if I wear a patella strap when I run, I don't have as much pain afterwards. Good luck!

Connie,

Any pictures of your Mules that you can share with us?
I know some mules are like large horses up to 16 hands...
(I think a hand is 4-inches.)

My horse an American Bred was taller than I am
at 5' 2" from shoulder to ground. Did not have time to look for
the papers on Dan, the Tennessee Walker Stallion, but he was huge!

Do they require a different type of saddle than a horse?

Good Afternoon Team!

Beautiful weather today. Had a great 10k last night & will be out again tonight for another.

Went to the running store at lunch to buy my friend a birthday gift (gels & race number belt w/ pouch). She is doing her 1st 10k in the couple of weeks.

Yoga, Before I started I had no idea it would make you sweat so much. For me it's all about the instructor. I think it helps going to the same instructor to get to know their style etc. I like her because she will show the pose & then move through the studio correcting or praising poses. Her classes are very methodical.
I know some instructors & have been to a few classes that are very quick & don't hold the pose/ position for very long moving onto the next one. Very hard to follow. I think it only takes a couple of classes to become familiar with the poses & their names. I wish I could go more than once a week. It is such a good stretch. I lack the motivation to do it at home on my own.;)

Get out & enjoy the great spring weather.........Sue

Afternoon Team!

Wow! You guys have been busy! Lots of posts to read!

Dave~ Congrats on the expanding relationship!

Vicky~ You are a workout machine!

Connie~ Glad to hear from you!

Kirstie~ Good luck with the chair! Maybe by delaying your daughter's birthday, a little extra Disney magic will be waiting for her! You never know...

Hope~ Love the pic! I once had my hair dyed black and it was down to my rear when braided. Back in my heavy metal days...

Jennifer~ sorry about the knee, mine has been nagging me a little also, never had a problem before!

Margie~ How's Hagen doing? Is he feeling 100% yet?

I'm sure there is more to say to everyone, but I've honestly lost track! So how about a :grouphug: to cover it all!

-----------------

AFM~ For the first time ever I covered EIGHT MILES! :woohoo: Yesterday I ran the first two and then did my 6/1 routine for the rest. It took me 1:33:09 with a few stops for auto traffic, but I MADE IT! This is the longest that I have ever done! This was after working all night, and I admit I was wiped out. I made it back to work last night and to the gym for X training today. I'm thinking about doing the Soldier Field 10 Miler at the end of May in Chicago. It starts in the stadium parking lot and travels along the lakefront (Lake Michigan) and ends on the 50 yard line of Soldier Field where the Chicago Bears play. It would be a personal triumph and give me a little more confidence about doing the Donald next year.

I *know*! Things are falling apart, not where they used to be, and all that. I might as well get used to a walker and pudding, the way he makes it sound.

Though, I admit it, I am looking forward to turning thirty. It ends my 20s, and hopefully all the issues I dealt with during that time. I did look into seeing a therapist to help put those issues to rest, so we'll see how that goes. Nick might like the aging process compared to that. But, he signed on and this is part of the deal.

Remember age is just a number! I was 40 and diagnosed with cancer, now I'm still alive,41, and cancer free! Our bodies do change as we age, It's up to us to fight the progress of time by doing our best to stay healthy and challenge ourselves. If anyone calls me old, I agree with them, and then ask them if they want to sign up for a race with me! Only a couple of people have answered the challenge by saying yes to the race. I shake my aged noggin' at the rest as they fumble for what to say!

Also, to be old and wise you must first be young and stupid. I am still working on both and refuse to join either camp exclusively!

Hi team! I never seem to get updates anymore when this thread is updated... go figure!

Mike - Congrats on your 8 miler! That's fantastic time too! You're going to do really well at the half in January!

Dave - I love haircuts! I actually have an appointment next weekend to get a trim and a colour!

Jennifer - pixiedust: for your knee! I was going to suggest hip and core exercises but you already have a yoga and pilates routine right?

Hope - I always say I'm 23 because that's when I stopped counting  Have to agree with Mike that age is just a number. I know a lot of "old" 25-year-old people :)

Connie - Glad to see you again! Congrats on the 14 pound loss! That's awesome! Wish I had a garden to grow my own veggies but I just wouldn't have the time to tend to it properly.

Margie - I usually get rest breaks in between exercises, especially after doing a set of burpees. I don't get many breaks in on my Thursday workouts because my training session is only 30 minutes.

Kirstie - Safe travels! I hope everything works out this weekend for you!

AFM - This thread moves fast! I brought my friend Darryl along with me to my training session on Monday. It was his first time working with my PT so needless to say he got a good butt kick! We did the same exercise routine but I did most of them with extra weight and a set of burpees in between. All the clients in the gym at that time were women, except for Darryl and we were all in so much better shape than he was! Princesses rock! I just love it when the girls can beat guys :) But working out with someone else has also made me appreciate the progress I've made so far and that I'm actually in pretty good shape! Yay!

Back for another short training session tonight and will probably stick to deadlifting. I'm looking forward to the weekend and having some down time. No plans but I'm hoping to catch a movie and maybe go shopping.

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Good Afternoon:

After a full day yesterday that started at 5am, I came home from work and we went out for 4 miles. I really wanted 5 but the bathroom called so I had to cut it short. Good thing or else it would have been an issue for me.:rolleyes1

Tonight, Mark is busy so I will trek out alone. I have a residential route that we follow so it should be fine. It’s suppose to rain tomorrow and I have a meeting after work so it’s the best way to get in my miles. Saturday, I will be over my 20 mile goal if I go out and hopefully I can spare an hour for miles. Yes, we call can!

It’s good to see all of you working hard and getting strong, we are a great team even if we only work out across the world instead of together!

Well I am at work so I’ll sign off.

Have a great rest of the day.

Vicky, Yep, the yoga and pilates is helping.

Knee is better (or getting there). I'm pretty sure it's just "over use".

Today was a day I'm glad I was a runner. They changed all of our classes to get ready for testing. Then we had a local high school student die. Then my IPhone died.

4 miles today in 35 minutes. (would have been longer, but I didn't get out there until late)

Heading to Ladies' Night tomorrow at the local running store. I so deserve some retail therapy.

As his mother, I don't think he's talking about something he wants to continue, if he would like his 2 sandwiches from me in the future........

I dunno about that. How much paper can you put into said sandwiches?

Tonight at work, I decided to push it, trying to keep my heart rate up. It was kinda fun actually. Nothing too crazy, just scrubbing, general cleaning and running around my department. I also managed to get everything done early, which can be a good thing.

Good morning team!!!!! Yaaaa it is Friday!!!

Vicky You are in great shape, not just pretty good shape. WTG GIRLS!!!!!!

DAVE Age is only a number thrust upon you by your birth certificate. WOuld you rather be a little over 50;) and feeling great or a 30 year old couch potatoes who stuggles just to walk up a flight of stairs:hippie:

Robert WTG on the workouts, eatting right and losing almost 25 pds. That is great. Keep up the good work. Say hi to Linda and stop by more often:hug:

I finally got my own copy of P90X. I refused to buy it in the stores, just way too much money but a friend of a friend.....works at a store that sells them so I got the employee discount. I had borrowed a co-workers tapes and have been doing them for the last 6 days and I love them but excited to get on the 90 day program. I am not going to officially start that until after my 1/2 at the end of May but will continue to do some of the tapes.

Make it a good one everyone it is the only April 16, 2010 we will have!!!!

Good morning, Team!

A sandwich with paper? I wouldn't mind someone making me sandwiches!

Age is relative, don't you know? Yup, if your relatives live to a ripe old age, you probably will too!! :rotfl2:

Vicky - You are the champion! Kim will be buff, you already are. Good to hear from you.

Robert - Wow, you are one busy dude! Good thing you are still young, relatively speaking. Enjoy the big weight loss now, it gets harder!

Dave - Long hours are no fun. But big paychecks ...those are! Think of it as Mouse Reward!

Mike - Very few people have accepted the race challenge with me. Although, I don't run! And btw, I was never young and stupid. I was young and beautiful. I am trying to maintain the beauty part! Talk about a tough job!!!!

Margie - No pics of the mules, yet. Jon finally turned them out into the pasture yesterday. Pics will come out better, now. Lucy is only 12 hands (a hand is indeed 4 inches) and Betty is 13. We just bought another one, He is 16 and just 3 years old. No telling how big he will be by the time he's 7! I want to name him either, Reeky or Barney! :rotfl:

Kim - You are doing a great job! Got those cowboy boots, yet?

Jennifer - That was a bad day. Those kinds of events can be so traumatizing in a HS! More PD for the knee.

Hope - Love the "push it" idea. I guess the pay off was the fun and finishing up early! Go girl.

MaryJ - Gag gift? I guess that Depends! :lmao: I hope the friend pulled the Depends out and used the shorts!

Denise - You are strong. I want to be just like you when I finally heal up!

Helloooo to Eva, Gerry, Jack, Kristie, Lorelei528, Pam, Regina, Scott & Lynn, and Sue! :grouphug:

AFM - I did a video yesterday. One of those Walk Away the Pounds videos. Worked for about an hour. My foot hurt, but I iced and it stopped after a little while. That makes me much more optimistic about the OKC Memorial half marathon. I decided to try the Asics shoes again and placed my order, on Wednesday. Can't wait to see them and try them on. Too bad there's no discount on Asics!

See ya - Connie

I had some fun today.

I wanted to get photos of my wedding dress for my father, so I tried it on. It fit (yay! I was a bit nervous driving over). It's still so perfect. Nick, the fashion guru, gave me a few pointers for the big day. He wants to see the lace up in the back come to a point.

04-16-2010, 10:22 PM
On more than one occasion, I made a large hollowed out bread loaded with cold cuts, cheese, veggies layered and loaded with salad dressing and hot peppers. One or two:rolleyes1 times, Nick got the slice with cheese that still had some paper on it. It always seems to be HIM!

Last week I was making burgers on the grill and adding a slice of cheese, I did ask Nick if he would like his burger with or without paper. He gave me a look. It's just a ongoing joke, bit I do make a fab sandwich = and he now asks for 2, while 1 would be enough. He just rubs his belly and puffs it out.

I do try to be careful about the paper but now, its more fun for the rest of us for him to have the paper.

Hi Guys.

Sally came up to visit from Nashville that was a nice surprise after a long 12 hr shift. So we tried out a new restraunt here that was wonderful.

Started the day with a good pool workout so after a 12 hr day I'm tired. But after that big supper we had better do some miles in the morning.

If anyone whishes contribute, please look me up on facebook. Any and all donations are much appreciated! I will be going solo as my wife has to work that day...:sad1:

Liz will be running her first non-Disney race tomorrow, and her first since ACL replacement last fall! A local 5K! She is a little nervous, but I think she willl do fine!

Hi Everyone! Wow, I miss logging on for a few days and I have pages to read!

Thanks for all your feedback on the timing/distance equipment! I'll start researching those soon to see what else may work for me. Sounds like most of you are using a Garmin and liking it.

Kirstie- I just can’t believe all the trouble you’re having getting your chair working! I’m keeping my fingers crossed for you...

Vicky- I’m not much of a baker so I can’t really help much on the peanut butter question… What kind of birthday “present” did you get that can be deducted by your father as a “business expense”? I’m glad your workout w/PT and Darrell went so well. Keep up the great work!

Gerry- I’ve never run on packed sand before, but it definitely seems like it would be a challenge. It also seems if you were running on loose sand your body/feet would be working harder to maintain than if you were running on solid ground? If that’s the case I could see how it would slow you down. Congrats on your 5K this weekend. How did it go? Hopefully better than last week?

Connie- Congrats on losing 14 pounds!!!! Tomatos and peppers sound yummy. We’ve had such odd weather here lately I keep forgetting what time of year we’re in.

Dave- I’m glad to hear things are going so well with you and Sally. What are you looking for in your perfect house?

Mike- Congrats on the 8 miles!!! That’s so awesome!! Tell Liz good luck on her race tomorrow! I’m sure she will do great! :rotfl: No, it is still on my to do list to buy shoes. I still have intentions to buy new shoes but have not yet been able to make it into the running store to have my feet/gait tested. I did however buy new socks and I think that has definitely helped some.

Jennifer- Sounds like a rough day! Retail therapy definitely sounds like it’s in order! Did you catch any good deals?

ASF I had a great run Fri night. I ran a 5K in 26:33. :cloud9: I was really pleased with my workout. It was starting to rain/sprinkle as we ran but I still thought the temperature was great and I loved it. The only issue was that there was a dirt area I ran through and I tried to really focus on not slipping into a hole or losing my footing and what did I do....I rolled my ankle! I don't know how I did it since I was trying my darndest not to, but I was able to finish my run. Ankle felt ok when I got home but has been a little sore today. I'm going to keep an eye on it and take tomorrow off if it's still hurting. :confused3 In spite of the ankle issue it was still a great run. I felt good when I finished and was pleased with my faster pace. It's definitely the fastest I've run yet.

Keep up the great work everyone!

I will be heading down to nashville tonight right from work for a training walk with Dan, a DisneyRunning buddy. They have some interesting hills down there, as those of you who have done the Nashville half well know.

Then I'm taking Sally to supper. I'll be taking her to the hospital there in the morning for her surgery, she is having a tumor removed from her overy and a D&C for fibroids in her uterous. They don't think it's cancer but you never know. I will be staying with her all day tomorrow so I'll be off line for a couple of days.

I had a nice pool workout this morning to stay loose for this afternoons hill training.

I think Syco posted that they didn't fix her chair. I think the poor dear is getting major frustrated.

Dave, yup makes sense. I also love the freedom to just be me. Combine the two and home becomes the safest, happiest place on earth.

Margie, busy woman. I will call later.

Jennifer, cute dress. Definitely not designed for us experienced ones, but very cute. Wear in good health and injury free!

Regina, Thanks for the kind words on the weight loss. It has been so long coming... Congrats on the great run. Oh, to be fast.....:cloud9: I can dream!

Mike, the only reason guys are young and stupid is because girls are young and beautiful! :rotfl: Congrats on 8 miles. That's length enough for a good half marathon! I mean, if you can do 8, you can do a half!

Gerry, great job on the race!! That's wonderful.

Good morning team! Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Jennifer - Really cute! I've seen the running dresses at Lululemon before but always wondered what they were like to run in. Let me know how you like it.

Connie - Glad to see you posting again! :)

Dave - Safe travels! Thinking good thoughts for Sally! Keep us posted!

Margie - It didn't seem like from Kirstie's last post that she was able to fix her chair. I'm hoping she did though. Here's a link on the Boston Marathon site where you can track the top runners/chair racers. http://www.bostonmarathon.org/ You have to register to track individual racers.

Gerry - Congrats on improving your 5K time! Two minutes is pretty huge!

Regina - Great time on your 5K! I wish I could run that fast! From what my PT has told me, it doesn't take much to strain different muscles and ligaments. It could be just as simple as stepping on a small pebble and losing your footing that way. Take care of your ankle!

Mike - How did Liz do on her 5K?

Kim - How's the PX90 going?

Sue - Someone at work is running the Mississauga half and asked me about the course. Do you know anything about it? I'd imagine it would be pretty flat but I have no idea.

AFM - I weighed in on Friday and lost 2 pounds! Yay! Gives me a good idea of how much snacking I was doing  I also made my energy/protein bars. I ended up finding a no sugar, no salt peanut butter instead of the natural peanut butter. The bars turned out pretty good - DF and I halved the recipe. He made his batch with unsweetened chocolate mixed in. I thought it was a little heavy. Mine had chopped nuts and a tablespoon of semi-sweet chocolate chips. Nutritionally, they're close to a Clif bar but much lower in sugar. If I make them again, I'm going to drop the nuts and add more protein powder so that I can drop the calories a little bit.

Going to the gym tonight for a training session. Other than than that not much else.

Have a great day everyone!

Hi everyone, happy Monday!!

It was a busy weekend for us, I worked eleven days in a row, had Friday night off, and had to go back Saturday night. I bought a new washer and dryer Saturday on sale. I didn't get the government rebates as they ran out in eleven hours on Friday. Illinois was one of the last states to particpate in the program. Now, all I have to do is run new gas piping from the basement.
Liz did really great in her race on Sunday. She finished in 29:22 in what was supposed to be a 5K. Someone moved a pylon to the wrong spot and messed up the turnaround point, so it became 2.7 miles. She still had a great time and fininshed 390/529. Her pace was 9:27 a mile. I had better start training harder! This was her first official race since having her right ACL replaced on August 31st last year! :woohoo: We went out for a victory dinner to celebrate, and ate too much!
I signed up to do the Young Life run/walk in Wheaton, IL on this coming Saturday (5K).

------------------

Connie~ Thanks for the encouragement! I need it for my longer races!

Dave~ Good luck with finding a new domicile! Also, my thoughts are with you and Sally, hoping for a safe surgery and no cancer!

Gerry~ Great race! Way to do Team Hakuna Tamata proud! :woohoo:

Regina~ Also, great job! Getting quicker and quicker!:cheer2:

Jennifer~ Great times on your runs also! I'd love to do a 45 minute 10K someday!

Margie~ Yep, got most of my chores done. No more laundromat for us after this week. The machines that I bought are HUGE, and can take all of our bedding. Mower is at the shop and being tuned! Now, wheres my pillow...

I can't find the Boston Marathon on tv anywhere! As big as this race is, isn't it televised?

Hi Everyone!

Miranda, the princess and I did 4 miles yesterday. We headed out into the sunny day with slight breeze. Chilly but not bad at all. Dark clouds looming and they always hit when we are the furthest away from the house. Sure enough it did start to rain and it also hailed. Tiny specs but – gee it is april and we’d like to be over that now.

I’m 99% done my big quilt, pictures will be posted eventually. It’s a good feeling to get a project done that I started 1/1/09.

Dave, my best to Sally, I had that same surgery in 1997 and it was the best thing ever for me. She will feel so much better to be pain free.

This morning I went for blood work, my annual physical today and have appts for all the required tests that us “old folks” need yearly. It sure is nice to see the doctor and tell her you feel GREAT. I’m sure they don’t hear that often.

Well, work is waiting so I’ll sign off.

:cheer2::cheer2:Yay Kristie on finishing Boston! My son-in-law did that race 3 years ago, in the worst weather conditions ever. Hope you didn't have bad weather to contend with like he did. We all look forward to hearing about your experience.

Those of you remembering OKC....I can still remember how I found out about this. I went into JC Penney's on the way home from work, and saw a large group of people clustered around the televisions. The Federal Building was on every set. I just stood there in awe like everyone else for about 10 minutes.

Dave...hope all goes well for you in Nashville and that Sally has a quick recovery.

AFM...didn't make it to the gym today, but went outside and took a 3.6 mile walk. Wish I would have had my camera to take some pictures of all the trees that are in bloom. Lovely! My knees are a little sore but I know I'll feel better overall for doing it.

Hi everyone :wave2:

Margie you now know my shanefull secreat. :guilty:

Boston is a great marathon, and I hope that I can get in next year, reg. opens on 7th spet. and I will be on line as soon as it does.

We had to be on our bus at 5am to get to the offical Boston buses, once we transferred we had to wait for our police escort!!!!:cool1:

We had 3 buses for the team, 2 for our chairs and then 2 more buses for the other disabled athletes. For this we had 20 motobike escorst and a couple of cars. All the traffic was stoped as we went, includidng the Mass turnpike.
Some of the police went ahead to stop the traffic from enter the road until we had all passed.
As we enterd hopkinton we started to see the buses for the runners, the police made them pull over so that we could start, They must have thought that we where the elites comming through!!:lmao:

When we finished the race we had a police escort back to our hotel too.

Set up for us was in a school,so real restrooms. I looked aroud and sat on the floor getting ready was Van ****, I so wanted to go and ask him for a photo, but I didn't want to bother him.
We had free food and massages if we want them, passed on both and it was soon time to go.

We where told that for the first 0.5 miles we had to stay behind the pace car at 12mph, no one told the car this as it took us out at 19mph.:rotfl2:
Once the car left us we where off, my crusing speed on the stirghts was between 20 - 25mph. you are told that the hills are between miles 16 - 21.....not true, hills start at mile 4, stright into 4 % ones, going up hills I am very slow, I went between 2.5 and 6 mph, but going down I was between 30 - 32.70 mph.:woohoo:

I was on time for a 1:45 finish, until I started having problem with my chair, First my chair kept falling off, I would ask if someone would come and hold my chair as I put it back on, and I woul dgo off again.
This happeded several times, but the worst thing was that my right handle fell off, I could not put it back on, I put it under my chin ang tried to crank on, 2 guys saw what I was doing and came running over to help, they tried to screw it back in but couldn't so one of them started running to the houses and asking if any one had a certain type of rench.
I stoped for what seamed like forever and in the end said that I had to go. I went off very slowley and I then hear the guy shouting that they had one and was running after me, I stpoed but the rench was too big, but this time he managed to screw it back in with his hands, it was not in all the way but it was better than nothing and it lasted until I finished.

With the handle falling off I have scrached all my paint on the arms and I lost my disk brake, my left arm had snapped so I could not strighten it out to reach my other 2 v brakes so I just had to sit tight and hope I could handle the speed.......it was fun.

The encourgment for the crowds was fantastic, not a many pepole as NYC, but they seemend to know what to say to get you up the hills.

When I crossed the finish line our team captin was waitning for us, I love comming across the line and seeing a friendly face. I was then sent to the VIP tent and met my Dh and Tinkerbell, the exce from invercare (chair maker comp owner) and I went nuts at him. He had been staying with the team so he had been told what has been going on and has promised taht it is going to get fixed.

Last night we drove back up tp Maine as my chair was ment to be getting fixed at 8am this morning, well we get all the way there and they refuse to fix it. My Dh will be calling this morning to tell the team and the exec what they have said.

There is a free medical clinic today for the marathon, where you can go to the local hospital and everything is free!!!! I am going to go and get my arm looked at.
We think I have a stress fracture, I have fractured my arm 3 times before, so I know what it feels like, and this feels the same, now that I've said this they will say its a strain, but at least I can find out for free.

Good Morning Team!

Doing a quick cheat post from work. It is Jump Off the Couch Week at DD's school. ie. no tv/ computers etc. It's get out there & get moving.

Syko, Congrats on your great Boston Race!!

Gerry/ Regina, Congrats on your great times also.

Margie, No yoga last night. The instructor didn't show so I had the night off.

Vicky, No advice on the Miss. route. It's a new one this year. Only thing I remember from the time I ran was the last few k along the waterfront trail was VERY WINDY. The lines were also long waiting for the buses back to the start to get the cars.

AFM, The weekend weather was better than expected. I had an ok 20 miler.
The wind from the north was very strong but I got it done. 1 more long run this weekend and then taper.

Have a great week everyone. Get out there & get those miles in........Sue

Good morning team!

Kirstie - Fantastic race report and congrats on finishing Boston in spite of all the chair problems. I can't believe that they wouldn't make the repairs to your chairs after all of that. If you talk to the media, are you going to mention all the repair troubles you've been having? Fingers crossed that you just have a muscle strain and not a fracture.

Sue - Thanks for the bus advice and the windy waterfront! I'll pass that along...

Margie - I've started seeing a lot of older runners and walkers at races recently. Last year, there was a 98-year-old man who ran in a 5K in Toronto - I think he holds the marathon and half marathon records for in the 90+ age category.

Connie - Good luck on your race this weekend! I'll post the recipe tonight. I don't have it with me.

AFM - Did another training session last night - lots of metabolic and core exercises. I miss running :( but I'm glad everyone here is able to get out and get those miles in. Not much planned for tonight - probably will watch Lost and try get in some pushups and a walk.

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Dave & Sally~ I hope all went well with surgery and recovery goes smoothly.

Connie~ Thank you for the great contribution to my race pledge!! It is very much appreciated!!

Margie~ I'll bet Hagen is going to miss his playmates! Enjoy the time with him!!

AFM~ I ran my second ever eight miler! 1:28:38 time! Only one minute of walking to clean the sweat from my sunglasses. I ran the whole way!!! Pace was 11:04.
The 5K that I registered for on Saturday should be interesting, heavy thunderstorms and rain predicted! :scared1:

Congrats, Kirstie!

Man did I miss Boston yesterday. Next year, hopefully, I'll be there with you.

5.25 miles in 48 minutes. I was exhausted after a long day of school. Test are coming up to quick!

Margie, A couple of changes/additions to my race calendar. I'll no longer be doing the Labor Day Tupelo 1/2 Marathon, but instead will be doing the Women's Running Half Marathon- Nashville on September 25. I'll also be doing the Magnolia Meltdown 5k on May 22.

Hi all! So I went out today for my 3mile run....and it so did not happen they way I hoped. :rotfl: There was a chance of rain and it was beautiful all day...until 4pm when the clouds suddenly rolled in. I knew the rain would come but I really hoped I could make it to the end of my run before it really hit. My friend and I went out to do our run and 10 min in the rain came...not small drops of rain but big drops everywhere! And then the hail came! And the wind! We had to stop and get back to the car and by the time we made it back to the car all 3 of us (my friend, my dog, myself) were completely drenched! My shoes were sopping wet and my cell phone was drenched too! :lmao: I'm a little bummed, but I guess it was a good experience. I just hope wine and dine doesn't pour the rain and hail like that or I'm in big trouble!!!

Sally- I hope everything went ok with your surgery!! We’re wishing you a quick recovery! pixiedust:

Kirstie- CONGRATS!! Great job at the Boston Marathon! Thanks for the race report. Sounded like a pretty wild ride!! :woohoo:

Vicky- Congrats on the 2lbs! Woohoo! Hang in there with the training- you’re almost at the end of April! Didn’t you mention you were going to try to get back to running next month when you’ve let your ankle heal a little more?

Mike- Tell Liz great job on her race over the weekend! Awesome job on your 2nd 8 miler! That’s fantastic!:cheer2:

Connie- Did you get to ride your bike? How’d the pilates go?

Denise- Isn’t that the way it always works? Darn weather…. Looking forward to seeing pics of the quilt.

Sue- Good luck with the “getting moving” this week!

Hope everyone had better luck with their running/training than I did today!

Not sure how Sally is doing, it's 5am and I'm not calling to wake anyone there to see. But I'm sure today will be mostly sleeping and staying as cozy as possible. She has good pain meds so life should be good.

I'm headed out to do my regular weds 8 miler with the crazed animals I race walk with here. It's another crisp morning here, 43 degrees so I'll be wearing a light jacket, pants and gloves. Sure has been a cool spring for us. The days are nice and warm but the mornings are cool.

Piglet, that sounds like quite an adventure. Did you see the pictures on the yahoo home page, of the high school runners who got caught in the hail?

Hope everyone is feeling fine today.

It’s a good day here in NH. I took last night off. I was so tired, I was a mess. All I could do was sit in my chair watch Dancing with the Stars and finally Mark and I went upstairs I laid on the bed and he folded laundry. I tried so hard to stay awake.

I have felt great for a month. Last night I was deeply disappointed in how tired I was, then I remembered I had not taken my vitamins in about a week. I think that was the problem. We had started a vitamin program about a month ago, after watching the Dr. on PBS about how we need certain vitamins to help us out with our brain. So, I took them last night and today either I’m recovered or their already kicking in.

I had wanted to do 80 Miles this month but it’s not going to happen. I would have to do too many miles to make that at this point and I just don’t want to risk injury.

It was wonderful hearing about the Boston Marathon but not how all your troubles were not taken care of. Thankfully someone at least tried to help along the way.

Will go out tonight for sure, as tomorrow will be crappy here in NH. We rarely have a “spring” but this year we do and it’s quite pleasant!

Good Day, Hakuna Matata!

Mike, you are soooooooooooo welcome. I think you are doing an admirable thing! My 46 year old BIL lost his life to colon cancer almost a year ago. I appreciate YOU! You have come so far in such a short time. AND I am one of your biggest cheerleaders, even if you didn't know it! :cheer2:

Dave, tell Sally we are all sending lots of PD! -- Have fun with the animals! :rotfl:

Margie, you are our official statistician! Notice I said "official"! It's your job, now! And you are really good at it! Enjoy your Margie time. Make it a good time!

Sue, sorry about your yoga class. Great job on the run, though. What's harder, taper or get off the couch week??? Great idea, that!

Jennifer, how's the knee? Are you wanting to move back to the Boson area? Good job on the run.

Regina, you know that you are a true runner when you risk the weather for a run!! Do You know what happens when it rains in a race??? You get wet! I always carry a survival blanket with me. You can use for rain protection and staying warm. I wonder why I didn't have one at Disney this year???? -- Pilates is good. I HATE Pilates, but dang it, it helps! I haven't gotten on the bike. I am confined to the stationary with all the rain and cold, mud and well....there's a good excuse in there somewhere.......:upsidedow

Vicky, thanks for the good wishes! There isn't really much of time limit on this race. The roads stay open for 6 hours and then it moves to the sidewalk for 2 more hours or until all the participants cross the finish line or are otherwise accounted for. It is a very walker friendly race. But that also means....I can walk at a 20 min a mile pace, rest for 20 min, and walk another 20 minute mile pace and STILL finish BEFORE I have to hit the sidewalks! Don't really anticipate that, though! -- Can't wait to get a look at your recipe!

Kim, glad to you again. I wish we could all post like Deekaypee. The woman is amazing, but you will just have to settle for what we can do! :rotfl: Or you can just skip it and not worry about recapping!

Kristie, CONGRATULATIONS! You overcame some amazing obstacles! We are all proud of you even if you are a Brit! Make that ...we are proud of you because you are United States improved Bit!! Good job. I sure hope you get some action on that chair, though! What does DH do besides work on your chair and race?

Denise, you are a little dynamo. Glad to hear you are feelng great and good luck on all those Seasoned Citizens tests! :lmao:

Mary, take care of those knees! hmmmm, I wish you had a camera too! Would love to see all the trees in bloom! I put peach blossoms on the altar at church on Easter morning to go with the Lilies and then I had lilacs (cut from my own bushes) last Sunday. Don't know how I am going to top that!

Hi team! Not much of import to report today - it's a pretty quiet day here at work. Although... now that I've said it's quiet ... Went for a walk last night with DF and did some push ups. Nothing too exciting... I'm planning on doing a little spring cleaning tonight and begin to pack away my sweaters and other winter clothes.

Regina - Hope you didn't get hit too hard by the hail. That's scary! I once got caught in a heavy rainstorm too. It started pouring like mad about 1.5 miles into my run. The rain drops were hitting hard enough to trigger the bezel on my Garmin. In the end it turned out to be a refreshing run and dare I say fun? I did cut the run short at 2 miles after the lightning started. I'm thinking the W&D race will be rain free because it's at night but then again you never know. FL was really humid that time last year.

Dave - Glad to hear Sally is doing well! Tell her the team is thinking of her!

Connie - That is a very walker friendly race! I wish there were more like it. It reminds me a little bit about an article I read about the Honolulu marathon. People would stop on course to have breaks and lunch because finish doesn't close until the last person comes through.

Vicky said your DH, Ben also ran the Boston Marathon- how did he do?
Tell him Team Hakuna Matata said "Congratulations!" :cheer2:

Oops, I meant that he was a runner too. I'm not sure if he actually ran in Boston.

WTG on your workout this morning! I know it's not easy to get to the gym when you're tired!

Kirstie - How's your arm doing?

Mike - Here's hoping it doesn't rain this weekend at your race! And congrats on your 8 miler! Very cool that you only took one walking break :thumbsup2

Today's training walk was amazing, we went a bit slower since we have the half marathon on saturday. There was a sprinting Panda at the end, I'm feeling strong and ready for racing this season.

I scored today on the sales today: Someone left a flyer, in the mail room, for one of our stores and there was a $10 off a purchase coupon inside. So I needed some more Nike dry fit socks anyway so I stopped and they had the socks I wanted at 35% off on sale. With the sale price and the coupon I got $24 worth of socks for $5.13. Then I bought a nice DVD player at Sears on a clearance for $40 and finally when I was in Penny's a clerk told me if I bought anything I would get a 15% off coupon for my next purchase so I have that coupon in my hot little paw for a future purchase.

Hello Team,

Connie~ Thanks again! I will think of you and your BIL during my race.

Dave~ Great workouts and I'm happy Sally is doing well! Way to shop! (I'm the shopper in our family, Liz hates it. I have to drag her out to get her new clothes)

Regina~ I've been caught in the rain seveal times while running, racing, and while on my motorcycle! I grin and bear it! It's all part of the adventure to me!

Margie~ I know it's hard when the little ones are away. At least it gives you time to re-charge a little! :goodvibes Plus the next time you see him the hugs are even better!

Denise~ Enjoy the Spring! Glad your vitamins are working!

Kirstie~ Please let us know how you are doing! You are our star!

----------------

AFM~ I got my American Cancer Society racing singlet today in the mail! Pretty cool to have and official team shirt! ( Are there WISH shirts available? I see some of you wearing them in pictures ) No workout for me today, doing a little recovery from yesterdays run and work last night. I replaced the ancient electrical outlet for our new washer/dryer set coming tomorrow. I'm picking up the gas piping tomorrow morning after work and installing it. I love old houses they have alot of "character". Ours is a grumpy old man who hates change of any sort.

Hi Connie!

This is the original recipe:

1 cup rolled oats
1/2 cup wheat germ
1/2 cup oat bran
1/2 cup vanilla protein powder
1 cup crunchy peanut butter
1 cup raisins or dried fruit and chopped
1 cup chocolate chips
1 cup light Karo syrup

I forgot to buy oat bran so I just added in more rolled oats and wheat germ. I also didn't know what Karo syrup was so I just used the same low sugar syrup that I usually put into my oatmeal.

1 1/4 cup rolled oats
3/4 cup wheat germ
1 cup PB, no sugar or salt added
1 cup low sugar syrup
1/2 cup nuts
1/2 cup raisins
1 tablespoon semi-sweet chocolate chips

I basically mixed all of the dry ingredients in a bowl and then mixed in the PB. I microwaved it for a bit to soften it. I put everything into a container and put it into the freezer for about an hour and then cut them into bars.

DF and I halved the recipe and he made his with unsweetened chocolate and a little more syrup. I'll have to ask him how many chocolate blocks he used. The chocolate does make it heavier. The next time I make it, I'm going to add in a little more protein powder and cut out the nuts so I can reduce the calories a little more. That's it!

Margie I love to shop but I'm a bargain hunter. I rarely buy unless something is on sale. At Disney I bought an extra long sleeve tech shirt and a pair of running pants and spent way more than I normally would have, because I didn't bring the stuff I needed for that kind of hellish cold.

Sally is doing fine, she and I talked on the computer for a long time last evening. She slept most of the day and had eggs and toast for supper. She has battled weight all her life and eats way less than I do. But I hope I can help her buff up with coaching her and walking with her. But I'm the kind of person that thinks inner beauty and potential in a person are more important than some extra fluff. She likes being called a princess. Can't wait to take her to the castle and introduce her to my royal Hakuna Matata family.

Here is a quote I did for facebook today:

Most of us go into a race knowing we are not going to come in first, or even close to the front. So are we really racing? Or are we doing an event? Never think for one minute we are not racing, we are there taking on the demons that haunt our lives. We are racing against self doubt, obesity, poor health and shortened lives. We are becoming truly free of the mental and physical chains that bind us.

I do my best writing at 5am before my brain wakes up and confuses me. Ok off to the pool to chase away my pudge.

Morning Hakuna Matada! Happy Earth Day! It's a quiet day at the office since everyone's on the road today except for me. It will be a fantastic opportunity to get a lot of stuff done but first I thought I'd sneak in a post ;)

Dave - Fantastic post! About the clothing at Disney... I was reading the Runner's Handbook and it said to pack most things if you think you might even need it. The author was saying that things like hat won't take up that much room. Of course in my case, I'd just end up with a second suitcase because I tend to pack two of everything

Margie - You're too sweet!! No apology required! I have a RR shirt too and while it fits, it's too short. I think it comes down to the top of my shorts or skirts but when I'm running it tends to ride up. I don't really care except when I'm carrying something around my waist and then I worry about chafing. We should have done a team HK pic at the WISH meet this year :(

Jennifer - Glad to hear your knee is feeling better! And what a fabulous comparison! That is a real compliment!

Mike - The WISH shirt orders usually take place at the end of August/beginning of September. Mel and Carrie look after them. There's also an order for WISH hats and visors with is done by Tracy. You'll see the threads going up when it's time.

AFM - Not much planned for tonight. I've run out of groceries and haven't had enough time to go to the store yet. Probably will pick up dinner after training.

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

It’s been so pleasant here in NH I am getting spoiled with the great weather. Our walks are usually in a residential area around our house. We loop around a certain area 2x to give us either 4 or 5 miles depending on our mood.

Mark has a friend in that area that goes deep sea fishing. He has way too much fish and now and then will give us some. Last night on our walk – the first time around, his wife stopped us to tell us she had some fish for us. Caught the day before. She said when we come around again, to stop by and pick it up. Now that was a very pleasant surprise. I had already planned for Rice Crispy Chicken so we will have the fish tonight. I have had that fish before and when you open the ziplock – there is a sweet smell of the ocean coming out of the bag – not fishy at all. Generally when I make fish, I top it with sliced potatoes(canned), onions and tomatoes, wrap in foil and bake for about 15-20 min. Then I open the foil, add some 2% Kraft cheese slices to the top, melt and that’s it! Serve with additional veggies.

Last time we got fish I made him some pillowcases with a fly fishing motif, not sure what I’ll do this time.

I have 52 miles for the month and am now starting to weigh myself every day. I need to lose weight and if I have to police myself daily I will to prevent me from losing track of my goals.

Back to work for me.

My favorite quote- There is no such thing as last. In every race, there is an invisible crowd of thousands behind you who didn't have the guts to start.

We finally made it home 5:45 this morning, we left strigght for the hospital at 7:30pm and drove stirgt through, only stopping for gas.

I got to the hospital late, but there was a photographer there, he just asked my name and what I had won.
As for my arm, I was right it's fractured. It was too much trying to pull one handed up hill when my right handle fell off.

I have a apperance race on in may for the team in tampa, they want a large showing from the team so I'll be doing it one handed and slow, but its only 5 miles so no worries.

Trying to un pack, not easy one handed, and tired, of course my Dd slept most of the way so she is full of life.

Will try to catch up with everyones post........sometime.

Syko, you do have a hectic life. I have training issues because of my age and need to be ever vigilant of not getting injured. A 58 year old takes longer to heal than a 20 year old. So I don't use a plan but train each day by how I feel.

I have a half marathon on Saturday so I have to be rested for the start and that means no race walking for a couple of days prior. Regular walking is fine and good for keeping loose. I stay in half marathon racing shape and marathon finishing shape all the time, but I'm ever cautious not to go over the edge.

Knowing there are others like you battling even bigger issues inspires me.

Hi team! Yes I am still alive! I tried to catch up, but was not successful, so I cannot say I know what is going on. Here it has been raining and snowing for 3 days, and we will have at least one more day of moisture. The grass has gotten really green - some of the trees are starting to bud out. I have been getting a dog walk in daily, and when it is nice at work, I take my half hour lunch break to walk about the block there.

Hope everyone is doing well! From what little I did manage to read it sounds like Dave is doing well, and Kim also.

Have a great week, and I will try really hard to get on the computer more often.

Hi everyone,

Dave- No, I must have missed the article on the high school runners who got caught in the hail. That’s awesome you hit such good sales shopping earlier this week. Those were great sales! I’m glad Sally is doing well. Great quote from your facebook. Thanks for sharing. Good luck in your half marathon race this weekend!!! :cheer2:

Denise- I’m sorry to hear you were feeling so tired, but am glad to hear you have either found the cause or are recovered. Good luck with your weight loss goals and getting in those miles!

Connie- LOL, I’m ok with getting wet… I could have handled just the rain, but the hail and the wind and the downpour did me in. :confused3 A survival blanket is a good idea. I’ll have to remember that for the future. Good luck to you and DD in your half marathon race this weekend!!! :cheer2:

Mike- That’s awesome your race shirt arrived. Sounds like you’re still getting a good workout with all those house repairs you’ve got going on. Haha, how’s the grumpy old man today? Good luck in your 5k race this weekend!! :cheer2:

Margie- My birthday is 7/24. That’s got to be a little disappointing to her you have a couple more weeks of long days. I hope it comes to an end for you soon. Hang in there!

Vicky- That is scary! We had lightning and thunder here too. I would have tried to keep going but with that, the downpour being so heavy that I couldn’t keep my head up to see where I was going, the sting to my neck, arms, and back as I got hit, and the wind, I didn’t last very long! It was still a fun adventure though. Maybe next time I can last a little longer. :rotfl:

Jennifer- Great run!

Jack- Good luck in your 5K this weekend. :cheer2:

Kirstie- That’s a bummer your arm is fractured. Take care of it!

Lynn- Nice to hear from you. Snow in April huh? I hope you’ve at least had a little bit of nice weather.

Looking forward to reading all your race reports from the weekend!!

AFM, I was supposed to run on Thurs, but I ended up having to work late so I didn’t make it out. I was definitely bummed, but managed to go today. It was a nice day here, sunny and in the 70’s. DH and I ran 5k in 30:07. We went to run around a greenbelt in our area. It was a nice change of scenery for us. We’re tentatively planning on running a 10 K the weekend of 5/23 so hopefully training will continue to go ok.
Hope everyone is doing well.

I'm back:)

he Ky Derby was my most difficult half ever. We went right straight up a series of long steep hills right from the beginning. My bad achillies didn't have time to warm up to racing before the hills started and the first 3 miles were quite painful. My mistake I should have warmed up better before hand but it was raining and we were about a quarter mile from the start so I thought that would be plenty of warmup, didn't realize the hills would be so soon. So the first 3 or 4 miles were walked in the 14's and 13's. About mile 4 my achillies stopped hurting and I could get comfortably in the 12's again.

My time was 2:50 because of the rough start. I did have a cool moment when another race walker caught up to me while I was struggling at the beginning and asked where I learned to race walk, I said I was self taught and he bragged to me for a few minutes about how he was trained by Dave McGovern. A couple of min later after my achillies finally warmed up and stopped hurting I passed him like he was standing still. I told him the next time he and Dave McGovern chatted to tell him the Panda said hi, he will know who I am. I never did see him again and he was far behind when we finished.

The weather wasn't bad, light rain at the start and by mile 5 when we came out of the hills it stopped and the sun came out. Nashville got hammered with storms today though, The Country Music Marathon was today also.

We are having sever storms here in Bowling Green Ky now and my TV cable is out. At least I still have the internet.

John Bingham was at the Nashville race this weekend and I was hoping he would post a report.

Lynn, thanks for checking in we miss you princess.

Piglet, thanks for the kind words.

Margie I didn't even know my time yet thanks. I was estimating about 2:50.

Hi guys.

I sure hope Connie's foot is ok now I felt for her at Disney, I know that was devastating for her to work so hard and then pull up lame at the race.

Denise, yes it feels good to blow away other race walkers, my walker partner, my student the horse ferrier, was laughing because I would increase the pace and sure enough there would be another race walker ahead of us that I was off in pursuit of.

Margie you are awesome keeping track of everyone.

Syko, it amazes me that you can do what you do also darlin. I would be sore for life after doing an arm crank or pushing a wheel for 26.2

Hi Everyone,

No run today, but DH and I did go out yesterday morning and ran 3 miles. DH and I are officially registered for the 10K Rum Run in Oregon on 5/23. From what I’ve read it goes to benefit the Children’s Cancer Association. I’m excited as it will be my first race! After I signed up for the Wine & Dine, I read somewhere that I should do some other smaller races to get a feel for the race enviroment and to practice what I will do for the Wine & Dine, so we’ll see how it goes. It’s coming up pretty fast!

Jennifer- :bday: party:

Good morning team! Hope everyone had a relaxing and fun weekend :)

Margie - Hopefully the rain clouds have cleared and sunny weather is on its way to you :) My birthday is on October 6 and can you put me down for another 1.5 lbs! How are your workouts going? Were you able to incorporate any of the exercises we talked about into your routine?

Regina - Doing a 10K with your DH sounds fun! Is he a runner too or just starting out? I can't think of a better way to stay in shape and keep motivated with your routine than to workout with your SO :)

Kirstie - Mmmm... all you can eat pie! I'd be there all day :) How long is your mom visiting with you for? Are you still able to exercise with your arm cast? I hope it doesn't stay on for very long pixiedust:

Dave - Great race report! It sounds like a tough course with the hills so early on but you made it through! I loved the part when you passed other race walker! WTG!

Jennifer - Happy belated birthday! How did your track meet go?

Sue - How's training for Mississauga going?

Kim/Scott/Lynn - :wave2:

AFM - I bought a new jacket on the weekend. I probably shouldn't have since the weather is warming up but I couldn't resist :) I had a hard time finding the right size. The small size fit around the chest and waist but the shoulders looked off. I tried one size up and the shoulders looked right but everything else was too loose. Anyone else have that problem? I ended up going with the bigger size and spending a little extra to tailor the sides. Reminded me of What Not to Wear

DF was invited to a wedding in June by one of his exgirlfriend. She's out in Boston and I was all excited about going on a road trip but then he said wasn't sure if I was invited. And Boston is north of NYC - I thought it was south and I could take a quick trip to visit a friend in DC. I did a search on Google Maps and the drive from DC to Boston is about 7-8 hours. Guess I need to brush up on my geography a little  Oh well, maybe I can visit that Cake Boss bakery in NJ instead! Assuming I'm still going... haha!!

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Good morning Guys!

Oklahoma City was great. I haven't trained since Disney because of the tendonitis in my foot, but racing conditions were great and I finished.

OKC is always such an inspirational race. Melissa and I had a great time walking together. We had a bridge overpass to walk in the first mile, at least it was the NEW bridge. The old one was falling apart, literally!! :rotfl: The wind blew and the sun shone, and it was a pretty nice day.

We stopped at mile 6 and to get some Tylenol at the first aid tent. My foot was really starting to bother me. And off we went again. We we kind of by ourselves in Mile 5, so we stopped and let the professional photographer take our picture!

IN Mile 8, the half goes through this really great neighborhood. The people come out and provide an unofficial "water stop" (there are actually lots of those in OKC). They were offering snickers bars, bacon, and lots of other stuff but one family had Krispy Kreme doughnuts (boxes and boxes of them) so I stopped long enough to get one.

Melissa was running out of gas, about mile 10 and just in time, they had sliced oranges. She was able to pick back up and carry on again.

We finished 4:10, with an average pace of 19:08. We enjoyed the race and had a great time. Melissa learned what she could fuel her body with and we made it. The Carl's Junior burgers at the end of the race are almost my favorite part! Yum!:thumbsup2

Hiya Team!

I'm still here! Sorry that I haven't checked in during the past few days, things have been really busy! I'm in the middle of working 23 out of 25 overnights and haven't slept much. I got the gas line piped for the new washer/dryer just before they were delivered last Thursday. Only one extra trip to the hardware store! :) They are HUGE and work great! :laundy:
I worked all night Friday to Saturday and ran my Young Life 5K to benefit handicapped kids going to summer camp. The race started on a horse racing turf track which was neat. I pushed it and set a new PR of 28.47 for post cancer surgery. My pace was 9:16. (Thanks for the great comments from my facebook freinds! ) Then I had to pick up Liz from work and we went out to lunch to celebrate at a new restaurant called the Tilted Kilt. Robert and Dave, you would love this place! The girls wear short kilts and, um, you get the idea. Kind of a Scottish Hooters. Then I went home and collapsed in bed. Two beers did me in!
Worked all night again and went straight to another 5K benefiting the March of Dimes and premie babys. Our Robert was one, weighing 3 lbs 11 ounces when born. I took it easy for this one and completed in 30.47. Then I went home and slept. So, as you see, I've been busy....:upsidedow
This weekend is our Actec Assault 5K adventure race! We got a few people signed up from work and wagers are being made for beer after the finish! It should be a blast! I can't wait! I get to act like a kid again! :woohoo: Mud pit here I come!!

Jeniffer~ HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! I HOPE THAT YOU HAD FUN!!

Dave~ Great job on those hills and I'm happy that you feel good after the race. Training does pay off! I agree, it's fun to pick out someone ahead of you and push it so you can pass them! I had three ladies running at my pace on Sunday that wouldn't stop talking about grocery stores ( the last thing I wanted to think about was work!) so I made sure to pass them in the last quater mile! Hah, take that! pirate:

Regina~ Congrats on signing up for your first race! That's always exciting! Take lots of pictures if you can. Here's hoping that you both do well! :cheer2:

Connie~ Great job finishing your race! :woohoo: It sounds like you had a nice course and a fun time!

Vicky~ I hope that you get to go along for the trip to the East coast. We go at least once a year to see the MIL. She lives about an hour West of Boston. This year we want to take the time to see the sights!

Margie~ I'm still here! Thanks for checking on me! Dave is right, you do a great job keeping track of everyones races! Thank you!

Scott and Lynn~ Has the weather cleared up for you? I read your reports and know we are next to get it!

Yo Robert! How's the world of racing out your way???

Howdy Mary, good to hear from you!

Hello Pam? you still out there, somewhere???

Well, just resting. I did get unpacked and made lunch. I don't know if I will get much farther than that, today. I'm not sore...much. Just my shins from working hard to using my ankles more and the balls and toes of my feet, less to protect the foot.

See ya! Connie

Mike- No actually I do not have lots of extra time. I do not watch television-I am a reader.
You can do lots in a few minutes if it is important to you!
I usually do it very early mornings, in the middle of th night when I cannot sleep, and catch a few minutes when the little ones are napping. :grouphug:

Good morning, Hakuna Matata!

I hope everyone is doing wonderfully this morning!

Mike - We posted at the same time. You are becoming a race dynamo! I am certain that I couldn't even keep up with your schedule (even on a calender) much less accomplish all that you have!

Dave - Thanks for the kind words. My foot is still sore and painful, but it is improving. I just keep on my diet and stretching and everything. I know that one day I will realize that it doesn't hurt anymore! Soon, I just want it to happen soon!!!

Hope - Thanks for the update! Come back and visit longer!

Margie - Good morning, friend! Yes, a new month coming soon!

AFM - DH put my seedlings outside in the wind. He let the sides of the wagon down and WHOOOOOOOSH the wind blew my seedlings off the wagon and killed 'em. I have to start over.... My garden is getting further and further behind! Oh well, it froze last night. It was a good thing I hadn't anything planted yet. I have discovered that even if I plant very early, I don't have veggies any faster, I just have more work!

Melissa's DD in 2nd grade, took her Mom's medal to school for Show and Tell, yesterday. DGD was so proud of her Mommy!

See ya! - Connie

Good morning team! Pretty chilly day today - the winds seemed to pick up last night and everything cooled down. I got a ride to the train station this morning so it wasn't too bad. Did some training last night and I talked to my PT about maybe running this weekend. He said I should be good to go but did suggest an accupuncture session before. Eeeek! I hate needles! I did talk to another girl in the gym who said she had it done on her knees (by the same practitioner) and she was telling me exactly what was done (and that she hates needles too) and that it wasn't too bad. It made me feel a little better :)

Dave - Sounds like a fun trip! You let me know where and when :) How's Sally doing post-op?

Margie - Thanks for keeping track of the race calendars and all the birthdays! Do you have a small gang of kiddos to look after today?

Connie - Congrats on your 1/2! Fantastic race report! It sounds like a race I might have to check out one day - lots of yummy treats to be had along the way. I love it when the locals come out and support a race, especially when they make their own little aid stations! Hope your feet feel better today. About the wedding - if the invite says DF + guest, I'll go anyway :D I have a feeling it will just DF's name on it :confused3

Mike - Wow! Look at all those races!! And you're getting super speedy too! I want what you're eating! :cutie:

Hope - Sounds like a yummy BBQ! Love ribs :) Yum!!

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

I've been drifting and dreaming about our WDW wedding, and along the way, I found these: Pirate shirts (http://www.cafepress.com/stargazerdesign/s_pirate,?page=1). Love 'em! We could use them at the rehearsal/dessert party.
