It is not like we did not see this coming....
from http://www.theonlinefashionagency.com (I really do not frequent this website, really!)
Teen pop sensation Miley Cyrus has quit her £500million role as Disney’s Hannah Montana, as she feels tied down by the franchise.
According to OK magazine, 17-year-old Miley is no longer happy in her role as Hannah Montana, wh0se character leads a secret life as a pop star, as she wants to choose when to do her music and movies. She explains: “I won’t have this mould they want me to fit into. I can just be who I want to be.”
Nevertheless, the trend-setting teen star has nailed the boho chic look here. We love her slouch tee combined with ripped, vintage-looking denim shorts. Boohoo have a similar printed slouch tee, available in black and grey. Try teaming over a body-con dress for an easy-luxe look.
What does everyone think? Is Miley forever-branded by Disney, or has she got out in time?

As a parent of twin 6 year old girls, I'm familiar with most of her stuff. I'd say she's a pretty good singer and young actress, and should be able to have a great career, providing she doesn't go the Corey haim route.

I think the question will be is she the Brittany?

I'm very curious to see what happens to Miley. Seems like she is going through a bit of a rebellious stage right now, pretty normal for a 17 year old, but the attitude I've seen from her in some recent interviews makes me wonder how her transition will go.

All I can say about her interviews are that if a young, British star acted like that, they wouldn't last long!
I am not a big fan of Miley, I think she just encourages children to get old too fast. Bring on a new Disney channel girl to replace her!

I think she has given that role as much as she could and it gone as far as it can.. everyone is allowed to follow their dream and I hope she finds hers. I also hope she can overcome the dreaded child star syndrome that we all know has destroyed so many ..
I think she needs to lower her ticket prices..... Just sayin' :rolleyes1

I think Miley can't act at all she may have a good voice but her songs stink.

I have never liked Miley Cyrus. I think she is very full of herself and too "rough around the edges" for me. She's making a big mistake losing that pricey of a contract. One or two of her songs might be catchy, but her voice is just awful.

I will miss her show and have enjoyed her music. I wish her well with her acting. I will be going to see her latest movie.

Nikki, you are harsh. I like her individual musical talent. I could without her show, but i think she should stick with Disney in a different fashion.

Is it me or does she not sound like she's smoked 8 pack of cigarettes a day since she was 5?
Im really not sad to see the show go. Its time. The show has "jumped the shark" and its time for something new.

I wish her well on this new stage of life but she better not forget who made her famous! She's complaining about being in the Disney mould and hopefully she won't say anything negative about the company that gave her a chance! I'll side with Disney over Miley every time!

ITA. I hate when celebrities "dis" what made them famous in the first place. Disney or otherwise. I'm sorry, if it wasn't for Hannah Montana, I don't think anyone would know who Miley was.

I think it's time for her to move on..but moving away from Disney could be disaster for her....time will tell.

Has there been a Disney teen star who's had a great career post-Disney without having a mega-meltdown? Leaving Lizzie Maguire behind wasn't such a great move for Hillary Duff, and Lindsay Lohan (who never had a Disney show, but nearly all of her early work was for the Mouse) ought to serve as a cautionary tale for Disney execs, young stars and their parents about the perils of huge success at a young age. Obviously they can't stay with Disney forever, but the move doesn't often seem to send them toward bigger and better things.
I suspect Miley will have a few successful years post-Disney but will fade into relative obscurity by her early to mid 20s.

Um... Annette Funicello or Hayley Mills, maybe? I think the boys from HSM might be ok, too. Zac Efron has done some decent work, and Corbin Bleu is performing in In the Heights on Broadway.
I can also appreciate that you sort of age out of the Disney system. There comes a point at which you just don't fit what they're looking for. Ok, so she could conceivably do Hannah for another year or so, but I can't see the "double life" working for a college student, kwim? At any rate, I hope Miley has a better support system than the others you mentioned, and can keep her head on straight.

Whilst I was never a fan I know my troops have in their early days enjoyed both her show and her music.
Disney as they have with many other young starlets have used every opportunity to capitalise on the franchise.
I am sure it comes as no surprise that it is time to move on. For some time Selena Gomez has been give lots of opportunity to be the next big thing :)
Coming from a musical family may help Miley make the transition better than most :goodvibes

I was just about to say! 10 years is a long time when you are 17!
Even then Amy Winehouse is not considered a role model- everyone knows she is a 'how not to', who just has talent to keep her going. As soon as she started acting inappropriately she got a lot of bad press!
I just don't like the fact Miley makes it ok for young girls to dress a certain way. Children don't have enough time where they are allowed to be children IMHO.

I don't think it's Miley that makes it okay for young girls to dress that way. I think it's the parents who purchase the clothes who make it okay. :)

No talent and lately has copped a real attitude. She should be appreciative of what Disney has given her - a career with tons of $.

I agree parents should take a large part of the responsibility, but I also think role models are important, especially for younger girls.

I have never seen an episode of Hannah Montana. However I really do love some of Miley's songs and enjoy her voice. She was on the view last week she talked about the end of hannah montana. I didn't take it that she was quitting but that the show had run it's course.

I agree and alot of young girls did look to her as a role model. My niece LOVED Hannah/Miley, I was all caught up in that "get a concert ticket" mess. My niece is now 14 and can't stand Miley Cyrus, she says she gross. I just thought she grew out of Hannah, but she says she really doesn't like her now because of her new attitude. I read an interview with Miley and they asked her about something, I can't remember what exactly, maybe the pole dancing thing and she said "Dude, I can't parent your children, if you don't like it change the channel."
