We are aussies arriving in the US in May for the first time. My son is pretty keen on seeing a stealth bomber or a B2 flying above us. We will be visiting DLC, Carlsbad, driving LA to LV, then to Yosemite and SF, and back to LA. Where might we see one in the sky?
thanks

The B2's were built in a desert town of Palmdale, which is near the Edwards AFB. 21Yankees lives in that area and might be able to give an idea.
I don't think that they would be seen flying, though, except in air shows, or flying in to the plant at Palmdale (which is a few times a year). You might want to see if there are any air shows during the time you'll be out here.
Having said that, I work for the company that built those B2's and have been to the plant that made & maintains them. I've been next to one a few times, we usually have to have special permission to be near them when we visit, and I only got to see them because I am an employee. One flew over us in Hawthorne as a special treat, and it was very close to the ground. I still get tingles just at the thought of it flying over us. (It was soooo cool.)

There is some kind of air museum in Chino, CA that has hangars full of aircraft that your son might enjoy seeing.
Here is a link. http://www.planesoffame.org/

I had a look through the collection of planes in Chino, but there was no sign of the Stealth or B2 - those triangular looking planes.
Is Chino a stop along the way from Anaheim to Las Vegas? If it's not too much out of the way we could still stop there perhaps.

Chino is just north of Anaheim, so yes, it is on the way to Las Vegas.

Another cool place to visit for airplanes is the USS Midway aircraft carrier in San Diego. DH and I both really liked it and we're not even that into military or airplane things. No stealth bombers there either but it was a great tour. Good luck with your quest!

We were driving to Knott's Berry Farm one New Year's Day and were lucky enough to see the Stealth bomber fly right over us. It was flying over the Rose Parade that year. Even though we were on the freeway and couldn't stop, it was really something to see.

I believe the Stealth bombers that do the Rose Parade flyovers are based in Missouri.
I know there are people here in Las Vegas that watch the airplanes take off & land at Nellis AFB. Try these websites:

Good luck!
