Welp, I finally caved! I ordered a Canon 10-22 to fulfill my lust to join the UWA cult! I also got a B&W CPL for it! I cannot wait to play with it and take it to WDW in May and California this summer! Thanks to this board for making me spend too much money and have way too much fun with photography! :yay:

I have this lens and love it. You have to be careful that you don't get your feet in your shot, its that wide.

I also have a CPL that fits it, but I rarely use it when I go super wide. The way polarizers work, you get different strengths depending on what angle you are relative to the sun (I think 90 degrees to the sun is strongest effect). But the lens is so wide that you get what's known as banding where part of the shot has strong polarizing effect and parts have less so. As long as you are aware of it you can deal with it ok. Here is a shot I took on a hike with my son's scout troop at 10mm wide (and learned the hard way about banding). You can see that the right side of the sky has a deeper blue than the left.

All the cool crop-sensor kids have the Tokina.

...that is until (if it performs well) the Sigma 8-16 comes out...

Just kidding! I've heard it's an awesome lens. Can't wait to see what you bring back with it!

I check everyday and still nothing yet. Pop Photo originally said April or May, so it might be a month or so...

Congrats and welcome to the UWA cult! You're going to love 10mm.

I also learned the hard way that CPL are tricky when you are going very wide with the sky in the frame, mine never gets used anymore.

I joined the cult, but I am the nerdy kid across the tracks. I only got the 12-24 4.0 Tokina. But, it is an awesome lens that is built like a tank.

The Canon lens looks really good too. Congrats on your purchase and we will look forward to enjoying your pictures!

I just bought the Canon 10-22 this week, too, to use on my May trip! I ordered it Sunday night from B&H, regular shipping, and it arrived on Tuesday. I love internet shopping :) Now if it would only get a little warmer so I can go outside and try it out.

Still hasn't shipped...and now it's Shabbos...guess that means it won't ship for another day...so impatient!!:surfweb:

I usually do my research better than this...had no idea about the CPL banding thing...I think I'll learn to make it work though (hopefully, that thing cost almost $100!)

I use mine pretty regularly despite the issues. For me the gains outweigh the drawbacks, and I don't think it looks that bad (the shot I posted today on Flickr actually (I think) is a fair example of this). I'm sure it wouldn't be acceptable for National Geographic standards, but for my personal pleasure, it's just fine. You might also consider buying step-up rings so that you can use the filter with other lenses to maximize its value.

I use the polarizer and don't worry about the uneven sky. No matter, you're gonna' *love* the 10-22!

Tom, I actually did purchase one step up ring to use on my 18-270, which has a 72mm filter thread. I didn't bother getting ones for my other lenses because just one was like $20 and I don't think I would use it as much on them.

Thanks for asking! I was trying to figure this out too.
