View Full Version : Water....water....I need water!!

Dramatic start I know...but it caught your attention didn't it? ;)
I'll be traveling to The World in June and I know that my #1 priority is going to be staying hydrated. In the cooler weather I carry a back pack that has a netted side pocket to hold my water, but in the hotter months I don't want to be that encumbered. I have previously used Disney's bottle holder; ( cord around neck with a loop that holds a bottle at the other end) but the weight of a full bottle hurt my neck and shoulders.
So my friends....any other suggestions for carrying around the bottle of liquid gold? I have toyed with carrying nothing and just stopping for cups of iced water but I think that I wouldn't do this enough and I'd end up parched and shriveled inside- exactly what I want to avoid .
Ideas????

I think I'm confused by your question. You don't want to carry the water around or stop for water????
We carry water bottles into the park. DH puts some inside the pouches on his backpack and we carry items like this
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230440078152&rvr_id=&crlp=1_263602_263622&UA=WXI6&GUID=967c1b911270a0aad221f341fe9567be&itemid=230440078152&ff4=263602_263622
However, that would be just as heavy as the other product you described. There is really no other way to make a water bottle lighter. Unless you want to fork up $3.50 in the park.

Thanks...I mean to say, my bag is too small to carry the water in it and I don't like the strappy holders because the weight hurts my neck (and/or shoulder). I've seen clips that people have used to attach the bottles to their bags but I don't know what they're called. I've also seen people with their bottles hanging from a belt of some sort....
I'm just looking for the different ways people carry water around. I saw these and while they look interesting....they also look silly.

Those are kinda cute! But they would drive me NUTS at WDW ;) Disney sells the clips that you can clip a water bottle to your belt (the CMs wear them) or to your bag. The holder I use criss crosses you like a purse so it doesn't get heavy. You might want to just try something with a longer strap.

I went in June and used a small Camlebak water bottle. The lid unscrews and the CM can add ice. I kept it in the side of my backpack, but it also has a place to hook it.

you could use a runner's hydration system -- you know those backpacks with a "water bladder" (yep, that's what they call it) and built in straw.....

Walmart has similar product (either a rubber ring or a metal clip attached to a carabiner.) They are about a buck, sold in the camping dept.

I purchased from the Running Room a fanny pack type belt with a mesh holder for a water bottle. It's only used for a water bottle. I used it for my Brita Water bottle - never had to pay for water again - cause Disney water tastes bad to me

We used these last year when we went in May/June and they were such a blessing! They are pretty flat, hang high on your back (so you don't feel weighted down). I wore my sling bag over it. If you fill it up with ice first and then water - you have ice cold water for 4-5 hours. It's great!

AHHHHHHHHHHH............to be back in the days of babies and strollers!! I can remember being able to pack diaper bags, cooler bags, etc....and attach and hang them on our strollers as we embarked upon the Disney day. I only had to carry maybe was a small purse or clutch to carry money, id, etc. I was able to pack almost everything I needed/wanted for the day in that stroller.
Well....now that my youngest is almost 12, we no longer have those luxuries. The last 3-4 years we have gone without the rolling trailer. I have had to come up with ingenious solutions to our carrying woes.
To start, each one of my children has a "small" or junior size backpack. The ones we have had the last two years have a netting on the side to carry one water bottle. And the pack itself is big enough to carry snacks and such for the day. I purchased a cooler backpack a couple of years ago, and it also has the side netting for the water bottle. And there is enough room inside for our sandwiches for the day.
I have tried to not have anything to carry for the day with the exception of my bag with camera, phone, id's, and money, but I am always drawn back to wanting to have something to carry my "stuff" in. As well as we are always so budget conscious that we just can't see spending money on every meal everyday, so we always pack a lunch and snacks.
We bought the water bottle clips some time ago, and the kids seem to like them, but they do become bothersome at times swinging around and hitting your legs, but the kids never did seem to mind it much.
Have the kids carry small backpacks, and they can carry your water for you, ha ha, just a suggestion.
Good Luck.

I have aquired (I don't remember when) a version of the bottle clips for your belt. Mine really only works if you have belt straps (so keep that in mind). I was considering the camelbaks, but I'm still slightly hesitant. Also, having a large person in my travel group, I don't know if it would fit him. What I mainly do is bring an average size backpack (its only slightly larger than a lunch box) and can fit everything I need in there (money, water, snacks, maps, etc.) and have no problem. It has large straps so it hardly hurts my shoulders. There's a couple of ideas for you. Good luck.;)

Oh what a fab idea - I'll just train the kids only to be thirsty near a fountain, and never in the line for a ride or anywhere else :rotfl2:

There are so many drinking fountains there. They are in some of the ques as well. If you are thirsty you won't mind the taste. Needing to drink water from a bottle is a need manufactured by nestle and pepsico.

I know this may be a weird question, but where do you put your bags/backpacks when going on rides, if you don't have a stroller to leave it in.

Don't forget the free soda (from around the world ) in Epcot. We always stop by there and love the watermelon soda. I forget the name of the place, it's by Coke and it's next to the big fountain.

It's called Club Cool. A great place to taste different drinks from around the world.
As for "bottled" water being a manufactured need...I absolutely agree. I usually reuse my plastic bottle and fill it with counter service iced water. At home I carry a reusable container.
I just want to point out the need to hydrate in hot weather. It's important not to wait until you are thirsty as by then you may already be dehydrated. I suffer from migraines and drinking water religously when it is hot can save me from a lot of pain and suffering.
Someone asked an OT question about backpacks. My large pack fits on any ride. If it's a bumpy ride like Thunder Mountain RR I usually loop a strap through my leg just to make sure it doesn't fly out.

Most rides will allow you to carry them on - providing their not too large. You can usually keep them at your feet and if small enough, in pouches, or drawers on the rides. if too large, get a locker and keep them there during your visit - having a smaller bag for essentials to bring with you.

I've saw them the last time I was there in February '09 at DD at one of the carts they have. I have seen them other places as well. The clip itself is rather cheaply made, so I waited until it broke, and got a very durable one at REI. I've packed another one as a back-up. The bottle holder itself is in the shape of Mickey ears.
My initial assessment is hanging off of a belt/front of shorts it does bang around. Do that all day...
I've seen those bottle holders/straps for around the neck; and the OP is right, think of wearing that for 12 hour days in the parks.
I have done the backpack with TWO mesh pockets for water bottles; and at the end of the day I want to take that backpack and throw it at Mickey Mouse. Of course, NO ONE else could ever possibly feel that way. I've been in the parks enough to see people doing the 'TRUDGE. I love especially the photos of people with big honking back packs. But we all at one point pay our dues, don't we?
I am prepared...at the AKL they had a specific shoulder bag (it's tan with green trim and has Kilimanjaro safari on it). It goes over the shoulder & across the chest, but can be worn off the shoulder. It's easy to take off. It has a place to attach said water bottle clip and it doesn't swing.
My wife is going to a convention in Orlando in 2 weeks; I've asked her to swing by the CR because I saw they had a black one there in the gift shop.
Now do me a favor...don't tell anyone!

I have decided to go with this small bag:

and this clip:

I'll use the clip on the bag's strap not on my belt. Hopefully it'll stay high enough and bounce will be minimized.

I looked into the CamelBak Hydration systems before my last WDW trip. I'd heard that when you wear the "water bladders" on your back it feels really good in hot weather because you can feel that cool water up against you!
The "Wearable Hydration" ones seem pretty cool! It's a water bottle built right into your shirt! http://www.camelbak.com/sports-recreation/wearable-hydration.aspx

I bought 2 of these filtered bottles for our upcoming trip. Just refill them throughout the day. Sure, at $19.99 each, they seemed expensive. However, when you do the math, they're VERY budget friendly!
2 filtered bottles x 400 refills each x $3.00 (per bottle at WDW) = $2400.00
I figure I'm saving $2360.00 in water alone. Shoot, that's about what this trip is costing us!

Well personaly I don't suck on the nozzle or lick the bowl so I don't believe there will be a problem. If the fountain is dirty or smells like baby poop I will move on. It is amazing how when some of were kids we drank from the same glass as other people and even from the dirty old water hose laying in the back yard. And guess what I don't know of anyone dying from it.

I used a clip to hold a small water bottle to my shorts. I think the bottle hold 500ml. But that bounces around a bit. If the bottle is not full it is not bad but still not great.
I found the bottle would fit into one of pockets on the shorts which works pretty well.
We get water in the parks from the CS places.

DH often puts his water bottle in his shorts pocket. The older three carry their own (various packs or carabineers) and the CS places have always been quick and easy.

My cousin contracted Mono from the bubbler at school. He, along with 27 other kids, missed school for a month-6 weeks. . . try getting a 3 year old to drink from a water fountain without touching his/her mouth to the spout. It doesn't work LOL!! Plus Florida water is nas-teeeeee!!
Anyway, I found a water bottle at Walgreens some years back, it's sterelite brand (sp??) and about a half gallon and wrapped in a canvasy/nylon material so that the bottle doesn't sweat. You can take the top off and fill it w/ ice, and let it melt through the day to keep you all hydrated with cool water. The top is a flip top type. It has a very long strap that you can wear cross body! It's by far the best $10 I ever spent!!! I have not seen another one in a long time though... I look every now and then.
Be careful of the Walmart water bottles - I went thru 3 of the aluminum ones in the span of 2 weeks - they leaked something fierce!
