Micky has to take all these pills while he has his stent in him, and one of them is pyrideum (sp?) to stop the burning. It says to take with food or milk, and of course Micky took it on an empty stomach. He felt nauseous, and then threw up. He feels better now, a little sick still, but he ate something and he seems to be okay.
Has this ever happened to anyone, and what else should we do?
thanks,
andrea

I've felt kinda sick after taking meds before, but never actually "disposed" of it. I'm not sure what you need to do. Did he just have the 1 dose to take?
I hope he's doing well. I guess the stone is gone now?

well, I would try the next does with food:)
if that doesen't solve the problem, call the person who wrote the perscription.
PS did they warn you his urine will turn bright orange ?
PPS I personally can not take erythromycin. It kills my gut ! Augmentin is also really hard on my system.

yeah! It turns it orange, and not to gross anyone out, but when he vomitted, that was orange too! He's okay now, by the way.
they had to go in and get the stone, and now he's got a stent coming out of his *****, and he's soooooooooo uncomfortable, poor guy!:p

I've heard passing stones are worse than having a baby. Poor guy!
I think most men would rather live with the pain than have a stent there. You've got yourself a reall He-man.:p

Oh yes!!! There are many antibiotics that make me feel very nauseus after taking them, to the point that I can't take them anymore.
If the medicine says to take the pills with food or milk, believe me, it is for a reason. I have had Pyridium make me sick on an empty stomach too, but I was fine when I took it as the directions indicated.

Definately have meds that make me nauseous when I take them. I can't take codeine anymore because of this. Med is worse than the pain. Some meds are very hard on the stomach so they tell you to take with food to buffer the stomach. Follow directions.

Chances are that he vomited because he didn't follow the directions as to how to take it (with food). Tell him to try it with food next time, and if it still makes him sick to his stomach, then call the doctor who prescribed it and let him/her know.

If it still makes him sick if he takes it with food, then maybe the doctor can prescribe a nausea suppressant for him to take with the medicine.

I do the same thing with pyridium. It does help to take with food.
I used to work in lithtipsy...a center where they broke up kidney stones with sound waves. Those stents are very difficult to put up with. Poor guy. He deserves lots of PD.

That is the exact reason why food must be eaten with those medications-to prevent upset stomachs or absorbing the dose too quickly. It is very important to follow prescription directions.
I can't take ibuprofen or codiene without taking gravol (dramamine) It helps me from feeling sick. Maybe the doctor or your pharmacist will let you know whether he can take that with his meds or not.

Unfortunately, I have alot of experience with meds that make you naseous....
If it says take with food - DO!
Also, it helps me to lay down about .5 hour after taking tough meds & try to sleep thru the "splash-down"
There are a couple very effective anti-emetics (keeps you from vomiting), the best of which is zofran - it's commonly used for chemo patients - Max & I couldn't function without it - It is very, very expensive, but perhaps his Doc could write a RX for just enough to get thru this round of meds...
Sending good thoughts his way....
