we are going to disney in sept and our son will turn 4yrs old just before we go, but i want to book the eurostar online soon but he will still be 3yrs old when we book. Do you think we would get away with hoping that the train is quite empty and then he can grab himself a seat, or are we best contacting eurostar when hes turned 4yrs old and paying for an extra seat?

I dont think he'll like sitting on my lap for 2hrs :rotfl:

But if we save money on his seat, then that would mean extra spending money!!

when they ask the childs age they mean the age they will be when they travel not now so youll need to pay. im sure they will check his passport on boarding and you may be asked to pay on the spot or refused entry? im not sure as never done it myself but doubt theyll let you get away with it and like you said 2.5 hrs on your lap will be too much for him let alone you

We went with 2 toddlers last week and didn't pay for extra seats. Personally if we did it again i definately would!! We went via lille and the carriage going out was choca full of business types heading to brussels. we were lucky enough that the lady in the seat next to us moved so my dd could sit but the carriage was very full and even ds hated sitting on our laps and he's only 19m. On the way back we wound up sitting out by the doors with the train manager (who was lovely and helped us get off with our pushchair and various cases!) as there were pull down seats out there. If the supplements aren't huge i would definately pay for a seat. Although mine will both fit in one at the moment thankfully! Lol

We paid for DD's seat last year (she was 2.5 years old) and I was so happy we did, the Eurostar was *packed* and stuffy and there were a lot of complaining children with no seats sitting on the floor between their parents' feet. :) We were so glad we had that extra seat.

I think if you are buying your DS a seat you should probably do it when you get yours sooner rather than later, do the child prices go up as the date gets closer like the adult ones?

I was just going to add about the price increases... If you book long enough in advance you could probably still get the 3 tickets for less than just the 2 adults if you left til the last minute.

If your child is 4 when you travel you need to buy him a ticket, tickets and passports are physically checked by staff at Marnee La Vallee before you board the train back home from Disney.

My Daughter turned 4 a week before we went to Disney last year but as she was 4 of the date of travel she had to have a ticket. No ifs or buts. She wasn't 3 anymore, so she needed a ticket. Just because they are still 3 before you book a seat doesn't mean that they don't need a ticket if they are 4 years old at the date of travel.

Sorry but people trying to cheat the system really annoy me, I have to pay for 4 year olds ticket so why shouldn't anyone else?

you can book upto 20th on the phone now, the longer you leave it the more chance of the price going up. when we orginally got prices the eurostar went up by £60 for 2 adults and a child in 3 days and thats not until november departures

Don't wait for the dates to be online, if u r booking for disneyland, they willtake your booking months in advnce if u phone them. I have booked eurostar for October half term only last week and they didn't have any cheap seats left...grrrr to half term!
So my advice is don't delay, ring them as soon as.

I dont think op intended to be cheating I think he generally thought if they were 3 at time of booking it would be free but was hoping there would be an empty seat fr the child to use, like people do on buses trains etc when theres an empty seat

It was the other way around for us - full up going to DLP on the Monday and empty coming home on the Thurs night. Just about everyone in our carriage had a double seat to themselves!

I wasnt trying to cheat the system as such, having never booked or been on the eurostar i was checking for peoples advice on the matter. I dont mind paying for my son but just wanted too check before i book.

and regarding other comments on phoning up eurostar to book, i want to book online through quidco to get some cashback.

thanks for the comments. :)
