have had children? I don't want this to be a forum on who should and shouldn't have children just interested. Read an old Ann Landers column in which she asked the question and the results were that 70% of people would not have children if they could do it over again.
Now me, I would do it over again in a heartbeat. They have been a trial, a joy, a headache and the best thing I have ever done with my life.

70%???? What segment of the population was this taken from?
I don't have kids, so no answer from me.

Ann Landers an advice columnist posted it in her column which is all over. I was thinking that the people that would do it all over again were too busy doing things with their kids to answer but I don't know.

Even though I am a widowed mom who bears all the stress of childrearing, yes, I wouldn't think twice about being a mom. Seventy percent seems very high. Maybe they asked these people on a very bad day.

While I admit I have some days when I say "Remind me why we had kids!!!!", deep down I would do it again in a heartbeat. They can fight 23 1/2 hours out of the day(and usually do:rolleyes: ) but seeing them in that one 1/2 hour when they are playing nice together, or the oldest is trying to teach the youngest something, or the youngest is showing the oldest something HE did, makes my heart melt and makes it all worth it...even if I dont always remember that at the tough times.

Yes I would. The only thing I would change, if I could, is that I would have had more than one child.

That's not even a question that should be asked
I can't even believe a parent would say if I had to
do it over again I would not
That's like the parent who is suing her doctor because she
had a baby with down syndrome & she feels she was not
given the chance to have an abortion (I guess they didn't
know there was something wrong with the baby)
So she would have done something different????
Great mother.
What kind of parents are these???????????

Do it all over? Of course! The only thing I would do differently is have them closer together. My DD's are 3 1/2 years apart.

It seems that there were plenty of reasons why they wouldn't have kids again. One lady wrote in that 1 kid was in jail, 1 in a mental hospital, another on the West Coast and she didn't even know where he was. No grandchildren and no family closeness at all. I believe another one was because everything between the husband & wife went out the door after the children and they never recovered. I think the reasons were because of how things turned out with the kids or how hard things were I guess.
I will say that there were times when the 2 oldest were in their teens that I wondered about it but really don't think even then I would still do things just maybe a little bit differently. I was very young when I had my kids and not only just age but mentally. I really had to grow up. I also did not have good parenting to follow so i had to do a lot of learning. I love all my kids very much and would do anything for them and now my grandkids (don't get me started on them) are everything. Although,.........if I had know grandkids were so much fun I might have had more kids to have more grandkids....LOL.

Absolutely! And I would have had more than one.
I would do it again in a heartbeat w/o any hesitation at all. They are what keeps me going at my lowest times, and life would be very empty without them.

Yes in a heartbeat. I love my kids. They are my life. The only thing I might do differently is have them at a younger age.
Wow its really sad that 70% said they wouldnt.
There was never a day that I ever regretted having children.
Somehow I cannot believe the 70% of the people asked feel they did not make the right decision when it comes to having a family.

Well, I know myself well enough to know that if I did have children (I'm childless by choice), I'd regret it. So In a way I could understand the 70% who say "yes".

I would definately have done it again. I only wished I would have had more.

I have been away for a few days so am just getting back to the DIS. Thanks for all the replys. Goofygirl I would rather see someone who feels that they do not want children (for any reason) decide not to have them than have children because others think they should. It is nice to see here on the Dis so many people that do enjoy their children.

Absolutely! In matter of fact, I would have more! I love my freedom as an adult and we love doing things without kids, but geez, I can't imagine not having them. They are frustrating and drive me nuts but the pleasure they bring far outweighs any negative!

I know some of you will be surprised but I would absolutely, definitely have kids again if I had the choice. (By the way, Thom and I have decided after thought, discussion, and a little fighting that the kids will live with me during the week and him during the weekends.)

Without a doubt! As I watched them run around the yard tonight playing with each other..... laughing, riding their bikes, playing with hula hoops, helping each other if one of them fell down, it gave me such joy that I could never imagine my life without them. As frustrating as it is somedays, I love watching them grow.:)
