Our last trip as a family of 4 and more PTR! July ASMO Updated 6/30 heading out!

HI everyone! I thought I'd try my hand at another Pre-trip report. So for a starter here is the cast:

Me: Mommy the Disney planner of the family.
DH: Loves Disney and agrees with what I plan. :rotfl2:
DD: Age 7 Loves Disney and is a mini planner in training!
DS: Happy go lucky guy that loves Mickey!
The babe: Baby #3 is currently baking. Due in September!

So now that you've met the crew here is a little background info. We originally booked at trip at DLR for December. Then earlier this week I got the email with that wonderful free QSDP pin code. So we started running the numbers and couldn't pass up the pin code. So we canceled the December trip and booked a trip for 7/2-7/10. When I first started pricing things out I had wanted to book a room at ASMO but only preferred rooms were available. So we booked Pop instead. Now we have stayed at Pop numerous times and we love it. But both kids are huge into Toy Story right now and we thought ASMO would be nice to try.

Yesterday I got lucky. A standard room opened up at ASMO and we changed the reservation. :cool1::cool1: The kids are super excited. Aubrey spent the day looking at pictures of ASMO.

So there you have it the start to our last Disney trip as a family of 4! We'll also be celebrating both mine and dh's birthdays as well.

7/8 Donalds BK in AK for dh's birthday!
7/9 1900 PF Dinner
7/10 Cape May for Breakfast before we start the long drive home

I'm not overly thrilled with SCI-Fi so I might change that, but other than that I was able to get what I wanted.

also, look into see what people think of ASMO eatery. i know PC's is wonderful for a value resort and i think so was AllStar Sports was good. Enjoy looking around the resort too. looks to see for Ashton.

Our plans thus far are as follows...(this is very subject to change more than once reader be warned! LOL)

July 2nd leave TX and start the very long drive to WDW. We will make a stop outside of Mobile, AL let the kids play at the park and eat lunch. (We are from Mobile originally and know this area very well.) Back to the van and back on the road! We've got some miles to burn!:car: We will arrive at ASMO late and so pretty much we will get the room keys and head to bed!

July 3rd after spending the morning at Chef Mickey's for my bday we will head over to the MK. It is kind of a tradition for us to start our trip with MK.

July 4th HS Most of the day will be spent here but I am thinking we might come back to the resort for a while to rest and then go back later that night for the festivities.

July 5th Epcot We will most likely spend the majority of the day here. This is the only day I have planned for Epcot. (I'll explain that later) I'm thinking we may take a break and head over to Beaches and Cream for a little refresher and then when we have had a good break we'll head back to Epcot and try to see Illuminations before heading back to the resort.

July 6th Back to MK. We'll most likely head to the resort at some point and then return to the park later in the afternoon.

July 7th HS I don't think we will spend a whole day here. I'm thinking we may head over to DTD or this might be our afternoon to do nothing at the resort. Not sure yet. I always leave an afternoon open to do whatever so we'll see.

July 8th AK after eating with Donald for dh's bday we'll hang out at Ak for a while but I'm sure we won't be here all day. This is our least favorite park. Not sure what we'll do that afternoon though.

July 9th Our last park day and we'll spend it in MK. Probably take a break during the day and then head over to the park for the evening. Sadly we'll be back at the resort packing things getting them ready for departure.

July 10th we'll eat at Cape May on the way out. One last hoorah for the kids before the long drive back. I'm not sure if we will spend the night in Mobile with family on the way back or not. We haven't gotten that far into it yet.

I still have to work in BBB for DD and dh wants to try to play golf. I'll work on those this week.

Also, to explain a few things. AK is the least favorite park for us. So 1 day there is more than enough. I really wish they would work on adding some more family rides for this park as well as HS. We enjoy HS but find that our family really enjoys the rides and again this park is lacking in family rides. We love Epcot, but we chose to do 2 days at HS instead of Epcot for a few reasons. There are a lot of rides I won't be able to do since I'm pregnant. Also ds who is 3 is also too small to ride them. HS had more options for us all so we went that route. MK is by far a family favorite and the best park for small kids! So that was a no brainer. The other thing that is kind of worrying me is that we normally park hop but decided not to on this trip. Since we now are paying for DS I just couldn't see spending over $200 for the hopping option. We really only hop on the days that we go to AK or HS anyway. So we will see how this goes!

I need to head out to pick DD up from school soon. I'll check back in later and if anyone has suggestions, please let me know.

I have never done the dinner so can't talk about it. The food was ok, but I feel that other buffets/character meals had more selection. What we did like about it was it was slow and the characters did spend a little more time at the table with the kids. All in all we were pleased but it doesn't rate as one of our top favorites. Well it has been an exhausting day. Started my day out by dealing with a call from the school. We have been fighting trying to get services for DD since Kindergarten. We've received some but not everything she needs. So after the conversation today, we have decided to homeschool. I have already ordered the supplies and they will be here next week. So next week should be our last week of public school.

I also managed to get some summer clothes for the kids today. Got some great deals! So that was a plus!

Well I am off to bed. I thought I was suppose to get my energy back in the 2nd trimester but so far that hasn't happened!:upsidedow

All Right for Homeschooling :thumbsup2 Good choice. We almost homeschooled this year, but didn't. My dd10 was having problems of all sort. This year is running very smooth, but it's still in the back of my mind. Maybe next year!

When is DD's last day of public school. Just our of curiosity, what was the school not able to provide for your daughter? Honestly, I'm just curious being a teacher and seeing all the services my district provides for so many students. If you would rather not answer, I totally understand.

Nikki my DD has a seizure disorder. She requires additional time to complete her work and does better in a smaller more 1 on 1 type setting than in a general classroom. She was also in speech and OT thru the school. She was receiving the resource teaching for math, reading and writing. However, she was not receiving any resource class time for science or social studies. I had textbooks issued to me for both of those subjects. The teacher was suppose to let me know what they were working on so that we could review at home. In the 3 mos I had the textbooks not once did she send anything home or email the material. Twice I asked and received a general answer such as.."we are learning about famous people". Yep, I can really go over that with her. None of the information was in the textbook either. So in a nutshell we have been fighting with the school since Kindergarten and it has been a pain. The principal refused to do anything for DD after the seizure diagnosis. I had to go behind her back and get the legal forms so that she could no longer ignore the problem. Two weeks ago I rec'd a call from the school. They were wanting me to allow them to do IQ testing as well as about 5 other tests on my DD. They told me it was in an attempt to get her more services. When I questioned further, I found out they weren't wanting to give more, they were actually trying to take away. I then told them that I felt she just needed the same structure for science and social studies as she had for the rest of the classes. I was told they agree but the state won't pay for it. (Science and social studies aren't on the state testing that gives the schools their rating and therefore their money.) Next I rec'd a call stating they wanted to do an ARD meeting for my DD to go to ESY in June. She has done ESY before and we have never had to do an ARD. Why now? I rec'd the paperwork and they had marked that I would not be in attendance and that I was waiving my rights to the 5 days between notification and the meeting. It was also not just for ESY. They were trying to hold an ARD without me to discuss the things I had told them they couldn't do. So I went to the school the next morning and withdrew her.

Her last day was last Tuesday and so far things are going well. She has already learned a few math facts she didn't know and is counting by 10 and 5's by memory instead of using a chart they made her. She also took a spelling test today on 20 words and missed 3. She seems to be much happier and I'm having no problems getting her to do her work.

Sorry that got so long! I wish we were in a system that actually cared more about the kids than the test scores. I'm glad that it seems your district provides a lot to these kids!:love:

I'm glad that things seem to be going well so far with the homeschooling. I know that some kids just can't function in a class of 20 and some days I wish I could spend more time with each student on a one on one basis.

We offer resource for language arts and math too, but like your district, social studies and science is done in the regular classroom.

It sounds like you made the right choice for your family!

Homeschooling is still going well. We are still adjusting for sure, but I feel like it is the best decision. I'm still working on ADRS. Well really I'm just praying for something to open up at Ohana. So far no luck!


Well I guess that is about all for now. We painted DD's new room and I hope to get the pictures on photobucket soon. I'll post them when I get them on there.

I found your PTR by searching around for info on 4th of July. We are considering going the week of the 4th. The only 2 weeks my dh gets off this year are the 4th and the week of Christmas. Bad and worse, right?:laughing: We have dd6 and dd2. So that is my concern about this time of year. I just went for 3 nights with dd6 on her spring break before Easter. We had no problems with the crowds but we also didn't have the July heat! Dd2 hasn't been yet. So we are trying to decide if going the week of the 4th is better then not going at all! :rolleyes1

That is one thing dd and I loved about spring break - the park hours! The other times we had been was slow times and the parks closed at 7 or 8. We loved being at the parks late. I was pleasantly surprised by the "crowds" a couple weeks ago. I was expecting the worst and it wasn't bad at all. I'm wondering if that is how it would be during the 4th too? It was busy but not overwhelming at all.

Have you had any issues with a stroller and the crowds? My dd6 didn't use a stroller over spring break but obviously dd2 would need one. Any tips or things to think about since you've been so often with little ones at this time of year? Thanks!

I usually pack some of those quick dry swim trunks/rash guard shirts. This way I can let the kids play in the water at Epcot for instance but they dry very quickly.
We usually plan a break so that we can go back and clean up at the resort if we have a dinner ressie. Makes us feel better to not be sticky and yucky at dinner and then we are refreshed for the night at the park as well.
How many days do you plan on going? That will help think of other things as well.

My DD is also going to be doing BBB this year! She is excited! That night we will be having dinner w/Cinderella @ 1900 PF so DD will be wearing a Cinderella dress to match! I think I will be taking one w/us but I dont know....maybe I can splurge for the big package at BBB!?!?

Sorry to go MIA! It has been crazy around here! Been busy planning Aubrey's bday party. She turns 8 on Mothers Day! We are having her party at Chuck E Cheese on Saturday. I did manage to finally get her present bought. We are giving her a cute blue/white striped shirt with Mickey and Minnie on the front in red sparkles. That is what she is getting at the party. (It is perfect for 4th of July in the parks!) Then on her actual bday we are giving her a charm bracelet with Tink and Bell charms on it. I got them at Macy's and only paid $17 for the whole set!

I also managed to pick up a Tianna shirt and a Toy Story 3 shirt for the kids to wear at the park as well. We are still going strong with the homeschooling. So that takes up some of our time as well. I will be making some lists soon of things to start gathering up. So I'll post that soon I promise!

Got to help Aubrey publish her first book! Be back later!

Let me be the first to say congratulations on a new baby girl!!! Cute US pics. The party looked great too. I love our chuck e cheese parties. The kids always have fun.

We'll be at Pop Century June 30th to July 10th. Maybe we can arrange to meet for a quick DIS hello sometime during our trips. Possibly on your Animal Kingdom or an Epcot day. We have two little girls (my granddaughters) - a one year old and an almost four year old. Brooklynn loves meeting new DIS friends. :)

I'm not sure what our schedule will be yet. We have Chef Mickey's for breakfast on the 4th, and Jill (my daughter), Brooklynn, and I will be doing 1900 Park Fare one morning just to treat Brooklynn to a big girl activity all by herself. We are eating at Boma later in the week. Other than that, we're doing counter service and eating in the room, although we might try for a Mama Melrose walk-in one day, if the timing if right.

As the trips get closer, maybe we can work out a time for a meet and a picture for our reports. You are welcome to check out our reports to see what we look like.

We have confirmed our travel plans at least! We will leave here the afternoon of the first and drive into AL. Stay with friends overnight and have breakfast with family before heading out for the remainder of our travels on the 2nd!

I have begun making my packing list and things to do list. I'll share those soon. Things have been busy here lately to say the least.

DD had her appt with the eye surgeon today and we are not going to be doing eye surgery. At least not for now. She will continue to have the neck tilt but we are going to take a wait and see approach. So we are thrilled and relieved! She is also very excited because Thursday she goes to the dentist to get her expander out! It was put in last July after we got back from Disney and the dentist thought she would need it for 12-15 mos. So we get it out early!!!

Considering they used about 100 pages last year I don't think that is going to work! Now with only 9 days before we leave, I have no idea what to do!

Monday will be spent finishing up laundry from the weekend etc and getting things ironed etc and ready for the suitcase. Tuesday I will pack everything but the last minute things. Wednesday will be picking up the house and then Aubrey has speech and allergy shots to get. Thursday morning will be spent loading the van and cleaning up any messes we've made. As soon as dh gets home from work around lunch time we will hit the road!!!

July 1 - 4:00 Old Key West, out in front of the picnic tables - stace208, *dreamit*doit*, dancin_princess, and us

July 2 - mid-morning, 10:30 ish, I am guessing Magic Kingdom, whenever we finish at 1900 Park Fare - momof2TNboys and us

July 6 - 12:00 (maybe a little earlier) at Club Cool in Epcot for a Bodacious Beverly Meet :laughing: with jeremysdisneymom and Wigd and Shocker This one is not set, yet, but I should know today.

July 9th - before the 9:00 Main Street Electrical Parade, meeting on top of the train station, several families

They'll only be for a quick hello and maybe a picture for the reports, if everyone is agreeable. Disney time is too precious to spend a lot of time on meets, so we don't want to take away from anyone's very special family time for more than just a few minutes, but it is nice to meet other DISers face-toface. It makes the reports much more fun when we all get back home. Feel free to join us at any of those.
