We Pooh Sized DISers know that we sometimes have to tackle touring the World a little differently than everyone else.

That cute bag everyone is praising on the bag threads? DI we know if it will "fit" us? Is the strap long enough? Will it sit right on Pooh sized hips? Or be stuck in an armpit? :confused3

Are those REALLY the most comfortable shoes when you are lugging around 50 plus more pounds? :goodvibes

Best place to buy Plus sized swimwear? Clothing? Best type to get? :wizard:

Let's all share how WE plan, pack and purchase for Disney! We all KNOW there is nothing like the DIS to find people who are/have been in the same boat! Let's help each other...and make it easier to find/ask! :lovestruc

I am having a HUGE problem finding the right bag to take. I have been going with a back pack because it's just been easier to find that would fit. All of the messenger style cross body bags have been toooo small. Not enough strap. I'm a size 24 and substantial up top. Ant suggestions on what you all have found?

Last year I found a great bag at Payless Shoes. It was a large bag that distracted from my large thighs. Very long strap had it sitting along my hip/thigh area. I also purchase the "no riders" to put inside my shorts to keep them from riding up. I have body glide, but have never used it. Bathing suit from one stop plus.com and Mickey t-shirts from Catherines. Most comfortable shoes for me are crocs and Teva Mush. (nothing I have to bend over and tie up.) Personal fan or "air conditioner" to keep in my bag. Love the portable air conditioner off Amazon. It is called a handy cooler.

I recommend packing a travel-sized baby powder for areas that tend to chafe. Heck, I don't think you even need to be Pooh-sized to appreciate that!! :)

Love this thread idea!! I had a Overland donnor bag that fit great with nice long straps, didn't sit funny or rub on my neck. You might take a look at this one. I also am trying to decide on shoes this time around. I have worn crocs both of my last 2 trips and never had foot pain, however are thinking about taking new balance tennis shoes this time also.

I'll have to check the overland bags!!

Love my body glide!

Now I wear crocs but not everyday. Not enough support for daily use. I wear my teva dozers and keen Newport h2s!! Then rotate

what are the no riders? and does body glide work well for shorts riding up? I just bought some shorts that I thought would not ride up so bad, but I wore them to the store saturday... yes they ride up. until I found the dis I thought shorts riding up was something I would forever have to live with, didnt know they made stuff for that.

no riders are patches you put on the inside of your shorts so they do not ride up. I love them. They have a website, noriders.com They cost about $3 a pair.

I would like to thank the OP for coming up with this thread!

I have a comment about bags. I carry a vera bradley mini hipster. I am very pooh sized size 26-28 plus, and it still comes down to my hip, or just right at it. They are not very big, only room for my change purse and check book and a couple other small items, but that is all I like to carry around anyway! Just thought I would share! :goodvibes

Here's what I've found works for me. I'm a size 22 right now.

For my park bag, I picked up a large size tinkerbell bag at Walmart. The strap is made of webbing. It wasn't quite long enough for me to use as a cross body bag so after using it a couple of trips I just picked up some longer webbing from JoAnn Fabrics and will be replacing it in the next few days. I sometimes put pins on the webbing for pin trading if I'm trying to put together a set of something and end up with duplicates.

For pants/shorts: I prefer cargo type so I don't always have to carry a bag into the parks. At Universal/IOA I won't carry one because of the annoying lockers that you have to put your bag in.
I used to buy them at Bass Pro Shops but they don't have any this year in my size. I did see some on the Woman Within Website so I'm going to order a pair to check them out. They have shorts and pants available.

I keep my tickets/cash/credit card and bandaides in my Passporter Pouch around my neck usually that I got at passporter.com. I love that thing.

I gave up on Disney type T-shirts a few years since Disney ones run small. I buy my tank tops from Lands End and overshirts for them from TJ Maxx, Woman Within, Catherines. Basically anywhere I can find one I like. LOL

For bras, at Disney I wear Sports bras. They breath better and I don't feel as sticky and sweaty in them. I usually order them from Target.com.

Shoes are my Teva Mush, Teva Hurricane or my pair of River Rafter shoes that I've had forever and don't remember where they came from. I also wear New Balance Tennis shoes but they are too hot for me at Disney in the summer. I'm currently testing a croc sandal which I'm liking for normal walking but I don't know that it'll work for Disney.

I get my swimsuits at Sears usually. The one near me carries a nice selection of plus sizes and they've lasted really well for me. I sometimes get them at Target but those don't even make it one summer. Justmysize.com sometimes has good swimsuits too but I like to try those on before buying so I don't normally get them from the internet.

Sorry for the book I've written. I hope there's some useful info for someone in here. :rotfl:

I usually order my clothes from Woman Within and in their living large section I found a "fanny pack" that is plenty big and has room to spare. I like the jogger style swimsuits that have the shorts attached. WW has them onsale right now.

The Bagellini mesenger has has a very long strap, I am a size 28/30 and it is more than long enough. Cargo shorts are great. I always bring a couple different pair of shoes and switch from day to day but I always find running shoes work best.

I get my cargo shorts in the Big and Tall men's department at JC Penny's. But my clothes run on the boyish side, so I don't know if that will go for everyone.

Woman Within has some really cool one's that I just ordered. They convert from Bermuda to Short length, and they also have capri to bermuda length.

Torrid.com has some cool and youthful swimsuit options that Have tankinis and board shorts, and woman within has great options too.

I'm a size 26/28 and I'm about 5 "10 and I've tried several different bags in the parks. My favorite by far is the Vera Bradley mini hipster. I wear Teva Mush flip flops and love the nylon cargo shorts that I buy every summer at Walmart. I get my swimsuits from It Figures. You can find them on QVC. I prefer the swim dresses. They are more expensive but will last for years.

Hi all. I just got back yesterday from Disney, and thought, that as a very Pooh sized person, I would add my 2 cents. First off, I was very worried I would need the seatbelt extender on Jet Blue and was thrilled to find out I didn't. I did on Continental in August of 08, but I have lost about 40 lbs since then and go to the gym 3-5 times a week for the last 6 months. I am 5' 3" and wear a size 24-26 and carry a lot of weight around my middle. I found the walking to be a lot easier this trip and did not have any trouble with anything. I went on Soarin this time and not last time because I was afraid of the belt issue there too. It was fine. I wore Capri or Bermuda shorts because of the shorts riding up issue and I also wore my New Balance sneakers everyday and was okay. I wore a cross body bag but it made a welt on my neck where the strap hit it. It wasn't heavy, but I guess it wasn't made for my body type. If anyone has any questions, I would be happy to answer anything.

Wow, I love this thread! We are a pooh size couple and have done a dining review, but we had some negative feedback about how fat we were. We have been discouraged that some would be so mean, but thankfully the mod deleted the comments off our review.

Ok, here's my question: what are so good about the Teva flip flops. I hate most all flip flops because they give me blisters, but I would love to wear flip flops. Thanks so much.

This is a great thread!

I am a size 22. My park bag is an Overland Donner. It has a very long adjustable strap so I can sling it across my body. I don't even have to take it off on most rides.

For shoes, I wear Teva Terra-Fi's. I am not a flip flop wearer and sneakers make my feet too hot. I also need something supportive because I have flat feet and these
work!

I am a Body Glide user as well. I use it on feet and thighs.

I buy most of my shorts and capris at Old Navy. They only sell plus sizes online but I've never had an issue. I've also bought at Land's End.

As for swimsuits, I bought my current suit at www.alwaysforme.com They have a great selection and great service.

I got the Bagallini bag 2 years ago when I was planning a Disney trip. I ended up losing my job and we weren't able to go, but we're planning a trip now and I plan on using it. I've used it for fairs and trips to the zoo and it's worked very well. It's light enough and can be worn on the back or the front. I find that I get hot under the area that the bag's lying, so I like to switch it up. We go to a scifi convention every year and I carry a backpack because we have to carry around bigger things and more stuff and it's just SO hot on my back. I hope the Bagallini will work well!

I would love to hear some information about this as well!

My husband wants a fanny/waist pack but the ones around here just do not suit...

Do any of these come with a water bottle mesh pocket holder or something? And if so, has does that feel (weight-wise) when walking around the parks?

The Overland Donner has 2 side pockets I use to carry 16oz bottles of water. The weight doesn't bother me at all.

Last year when I went I was 5'5", 260 pounds and wore a size 22. I wore a Baggallini messenger bag and loved it. I wore tennis shoes some days (New Balance), Mickey crocs a couple times and my favorite flip-flips are the Athens from crocs. I found cargo style capri pants at Kohls before I left on super sale. My swimsuit is a Speedo because I like the straps to cross over in the back. They do offer limited plus sizes (I think it's 20-24).

Before my trip, by accident, I found something at the Bali/Hanes outlet store that was helpful. It's called a Happy Strap and it's to put between your bra straps to keep them from slipping down. (That's the reason I have a Speedo swimsuit). It is similar to those plastic disc things you see on tv, but the saleslady told me those tend to crack/break and who wants that? It was nice for when I wore sleeveless shirts and just in general. If you're curious.

Hi again DaniB! I just looked at this place I had in mind for you, I don't know how to post a link, sorry! Go to kingsizedirect.com and on the home page at the top right hand side there is a search, type in fanny pack and it pulls up a black leather type fanny pack that is oversized and fits up to 72 inch waist. It was $19.99! Hope this helps!! :goodvibes

I found mine at walmart for about $5 I never use it though because it tends to make my shirts ride up and it just drives me crazy! I can't make up my mind what to bring. The only kids along are grandkids so mom and day have to haul their stuff, I just need my phone, cards, chapstick and a water bottle, so I am torn about what to carry. I hate to take anything and would love cargo shorts, but so far have not found anything.

I thought I'd swing back and let you all know how the cargo shorts from womanwithin.com were. I just got them in the mail today.

I ordered a pair of the shorts and a pair of the cargo pants. The cargo shorts are great. They are a good fit and a good length, plus they can adjust from bermuda length to mid-thigh. The material is thin which is good for late spring/summer/fall. These are keepers for me and I may pick up another pair or 2.

The pants can adjust from full length pants to capri length. But when they are at full length the legs are alot wider than I like so they'll be going back. They are the same material as the shorts.

Both are drawstring waists which I also liked. I know it's hard to find plus size cargo shorts so this is one place to get them.

I'm loving this thread too.

You know, I went back and forth over ordering a baggallini...for WEEKS. I couldn't pass up the deal when I found it here so I finally just ordered it. I got it last week. Yeah, not feeling the love for baggallini. I was a little (ok, a lot) disappointed. I was ready to love it. It wasn't a problem with actually fitting around me (size 24-26 depending on how much salt I've had that day LOL) ...that was fine...it was where the strap "nestled" and "dug" that I didn't like. I'm all for a little "lift" (iykwim) but, I prefer the lift be on both sides...and under my clothes (thank you very much). :rotfl: So, not wanting to look all lopsidedly lifted, I messed with the strap, and messed with the strap, and messed with the strap some more... trying to find just the right fit. The only way I can wear it comfortably is to switch shoulders and wear it on the front. Yeah, well, only one problem with that? It makes me look like a hugely pregnant kangaroo. Not exactly the look I want. lol

Long story short...this pooh sized gal is back to her old trusty, rusty, ratty backpack (until I can find something else). :)

LOVING this thread! I am just over 5'1", on my tall days, and usually wear a size 18. So that makes me look like I'm a 24 probably, since I'm so short. :rolleyes1 I do like to wear bigger shirts, though, & I'm having a really hard time with the swimsuit issue! Thanks to all the websites, I may just find one I like. Still looking for the perfect park bag, though. I'm leaning towards the overland donner, though, because I need it to be big enough to carry my DSLR!

I've never owned a pair of Cargos before but had an awesome coupon at Lane Bryant and found a really comfy pair... And then when I grabbed my normal size it was too big so I had to grab the next size smaller... Total Shocker :scared1: LOL But I normally shop at both Lane Bryant and Torrid for my clothes... I find things once in a while at Burlington and AJWright but everything is soo messy which makes it basicaly not shopable... Hit or Miss... But for my shoes I actually just got a pair of Nike Shox... And these are by far the comfyest pair I've ever had... They are white and Sparkely so the Hubby was good!! Im still in need of a pair of flops... Last trip I use a pair of nike thong sandals they were really good but they were not waterproof... This was terrible when traveling during the Summer Season with the daily TStorms... Anyone have suggestions on where to find plus-size Disney tees? DH and I are both Pooh sized, and I was disappointed with the limited selection at the Disney store site. DH is a 4x (6'2'' and about 325), and I am a 22/3X womens or 2X unisex (5'6'', 220 pounds, 44G chest). I'd like to find a few before we go down in November.

Also, where is the best spot to find them in the parks?

I've seen some plus size Disney stuff at my local Wal-Mart, but I don't recall if it was just hoodies or if they had t-shirts as well. I've had better luck with that in-store as opposed to online.

As for in the parks.... I honestly have no idea. I had some luck finding them at odd times (then again, I was a CM and would go in at the most random times or poke around in the shops on my way home from work), but the places I remember seeing them the most were at World of Disney at DTD and the big shop whose name I can't remember at MK (it's 4:30am and I'm still awake :crazy2:)

THE EMPORIUM! That's what it was. Blah.

I have a crossbody backpack that I wear in the parks. I got it at Shoe Carnival a few years ago, so I don't think the exact style is sold anymore, but I can take a picture of it if anyone wants to see. It's roomy enough to hold what I need, but still comfortable enough that I can wear it all day and not have a problem with it (I have some back issues from my job). Because it's crossbody, I can easily swing it around to my side or my front if I need something out of it. It's also only got one big compartment and one small compartment, so it's easy to open up for security.

As for shoes, I used to wear whatever I had with me, but I was also very used to being in the parks all day (yay MK custodial). When I go down in January, I'm likely to just bring a pair of gym shoes or two and a nice pair of flats for when we go out to dinner at the resorts. I hate Crocs with a passion, and would rather just bring well-broken in gym shoes. Plus, we're going in January and I'm not about to bring flip-flops or sandals when I know how the weather changes. The shoes I wear at work (and will likely bring to Disney) are just Champion running shoes from Target.

I have some Tee's that I had purchased from Disney Store that are the 2X size... I like the fit cause it's more of a girly tee... I also find Womens Disney Couture Tee's all over the place... From Torrid Again and I find them through Google and HotTopic which is also a division of Torrid so I find things more on their website not really in stores...

On our last trip in 08 I was surprised how many Women size shirts I found in the World... Saw basic ones at our Resorts Gift Shop but some of the better ones that I ran into were all at the Contemp. Gift Shop and again Total Shocker!! :scared1: Found a super cute white Minnie Mouse Sparkely Tee last year... I was basicaly covered in glitter the entire day I wore it though but it was a super comfy shirt! I would love to find another when we arrive... So I'll keep you ladies posted!!!

New Balance have worked great for me as a woman, but I have talked with many men who wear them who also think they are comfortable. I like the N.B. 600 from J.C. Penney $49.00 not on sale for womens.

A few weeks ago I checked out Disney store online clearance section had several lg size clothes on clearance. Men and womens.

Hello all. I come from a Pooh sized family.. (well except for my brother who is skinny as a rail. I don't know how tho) anywho, I like to wear Capri's at the parks. I don't like to off to much lef. I LOVE Just my size tank tops. They are the best! You can usually get them for 5-7.00 at Wal-Mart. I got my bathing suit at Fashion Bug and I like it.. It is a two piece but it is only enought that it covers everything nicely and the bottom are like shorts and the tops is a longer tank type.

I do hope to lose some weight before we go in november but we are getting Deluxe dinning. I sometime feel that this is going to be a bad thing as we eat alot and I don't want people to get "the look" that some people get when watching larger people eat. The "I Cant believe them" look. But there are some great places on the list and I hope it is fun.

The Design Your Own Tee's on zazzle.com come in Plus Sizes. Some of the Women's Cut tees go up to 3X and their value tee which is unisex goes up to 6X. They have a TON of cute designs to choose from. You do have to pay slightly more for some of the plus sizes though.

I am looking for a pair of shoes that would be comfortable for walking at WDW for a young man. Anyone have any ideas?

My husband wears Teva Terra-Fi's in the park and loves them.

I just bought a bunch of tunic length tees from avenue.com - just waiting for them to be delivered. I hope they fit the bill. I'll report back.

Okay, so how about a bra question? Men, shield your eyes, this ain't gonna be pretty.

I'm an underwire kind of gal normally, but the thought of having that rub up against me all day long in the trillion-degree heat just makes me groan. Any pooh-gals want to chime in on over-the-shoulder-boulder-holder choices for Disney? I'm thinking I'd like to go underwire-free or with a sports bra, but then again, I don't want the girls bouncing around, injuring small children, etc. I also wonder if a sports bra would be too hot, given the extra material. Also, I did just find a moisture-wicking bra (!) from Hanes. IIRC, it's a sports bra.

Insight warmly welcomed.

Wow, I love this thread, too!

One good thing about WDW is all the shady places to sit and rest when we need it. This is not only helpful for us Pooh-sized people, but also for those with physical limitations.

I wanted to share a link to a site that gives tips and info on ride seat sizes, seat types (bench, etc) as well as personal experiences being larger at WDW:

http://allears.net/tp/ridsiz.htm

Regarding bras, any time I know there is a chance I will sweat, I fold up paper towels and place one under each side of my bra band. You wouldn't believe what a difference this makes! Carry extra in your pouch, and replace as needed.

One last thing - Kohl's have sling purses with extra long straps. Most straps are removable and can be snapped onto the purse of your choice.

I just wanted to report back that I received my purchases from Avenue and Old Navy.

I bought two pairs of cargo capris from Old Navy and they are great! They fit well, nice material..love them!

The Avenue purchase was not so successful. I bought 5 tops and 2 pairs of pajama separates. The pajamas are great. They are boxers with matching t-shirts..very cute. Of the 4 tops, 3 are going back. They are all t-shirts and the material is paper thin. It just doesn't feel like quality merchandise! I am now going to go with Land's End as they are having a 25% off plus free shipping sale until tomorrow night.

I also noticed that Just My Size (http://www.jms.com) had some adorable swimsuits on sale!

Question on the capris - the cargo material is cotton or a cotton blend, yes? Do you think you'll have any issues with chafing?

TMI alert - sorry, might be a bit of TMI coming here.

Over the last couple of months, I've developed some weird skin issue that makes me itch and is making my thighs chafe. I'm a bit afraid wearing a material stiffer than say, a cotton jersey, would be nothing but all-day discomfort. I do like Old Navy clothes, so if these don't have too much of a chafing problem, it sounds like an option I need to check out.

I checked and they are 100% cotton. I had a similar pair that I wore to WDW in 2008 (they were also Old Navy) and I had no issues with chafing. When I have had those kinds of problems in the past it was usually with shorts though, not capris.

I also recommend Body Glide if you have any concerns about that. It works great. I use it on my feet and never have issues with blisters. Just make sure to let it dry for about 10 minutes.

Hope that helps. :)

This is a great thread! I am plus size (now about 18/20) and have been for years. At one point I was a 32/34, and have been going to the parks and such the whole time.

As for shoes, I can never get away with sandals as my feet start to burn. I always wear tennis shoes...might be a little hotter but rather be warm then in pain!

Bags, well I don't have any children yet, so i get away with not having one at all. I carry my $, ID and cc in a plastic ziptop pouch I got when working at Disney (CM wear them) and attach it to a pull line carabeener. I love this thing!!! Then I just carry my phone, chapstick and meds if needed in my pocket. Water bottle in hand :) I hate carrying them because I always have a painful sore around my neck when I am done for the day.
I have heard good things about the Vera Bradley hipsters though!

I only wear bermuda shorts now in the parks, so the riding up thing is in the past. Plus I am more comfortable in something that is straight legged and cotton. I got a bunch of them from Lee and they fit great. I wear capris everywhere else on property.

Shirts - I can only wear t's that come to my elbow, as I don't want to show my upper arms (result of weight loss surgery and lots of sagging :scared1:)
Disney does carry sizes up to 3X now, but I personally hate regular t-shirts as they are always too big up top. I wear regular elbow length tees from wherever I can find them. I have a few Disney shirts, but not many and they are some of my least favs. I usually don't bring them on vacation at all.

Now, as for chaffing, the best thing I have found is Monoistat soothing chafing care gel. It is the best stuff! I wear it especially when I have a skirt/dress on as I hate to walk around a lot and it start to be painful. I got mine at Target, but I think you can find it almost anywhere.

I spent some time swimsuit shopping today. Kohl's had a good sale going on but hardly any plus size swimsuits. The ones they had looked horrible on. Blech.

Sears had a nice selection of plus size swimsuits but they had the same look horrible on issue.

I found that most of the swimsuits in the stores for plus size tankini tops have a wierd band under the breasts so it made the rest of of top stick way out over the stomach.

Hey stores - I want to minimize the stomach not enlarge it. :rotfl:

I'm going to have to wander thru the internet for a swimsuit. I went to all the brick/mortar stores in my area and they all had the banded tankini tops. I guess that's what popular right now.

Target had a huge selection of plus size sports bras. That's what I like to wear in the parks for a bra. They had some pretty colors too so I had to buy a couple.

I picked up a pair of basic black croc flip flops today and have already done the mile walk with my dog. They were like walking on air. I'll have to see how I feel in an hour though. :rotfl:

I ordered a one-piece from Lands End and just received it! I wanted a one piece for the water parks. I ordered the Carmela slender suit and it fits great! It keeps the girls up there! It can be ordered in D and DD cup sizes. Their suits are a little expensive, but they last a long time, I've had one for 4 years and I still wear it. Lands End is having quite a few sales right now, sign up for their email and get discounts! (I just realized I sound like I work for Lands End, but I don't LOL!)

Hi everyone! Disney is a wonderful place for pooh sized folks. I am 18/20, my daughter was size 28 when we went in 2008. She wore her Rainbow flip flops (but she practically lives in those during the summer) I wore New Balance walking shoes. I carried an over body bag from Rosetti. My DD carried a Nike backpack, the kind with strings & very lightweight material....she was very comfortable with it.

She had to turn sideways to fit through the turnstiles at MK (we had read about those). The only ride problem we had was on Kali River Rapids. There are 2 seats together and the strap fits across both people. We tried to sit beside each other and the belt would not buckle...sadly the CM was yelling at us to buckle and we could not....needless to say it was not pleasant. So, if you want to ride it, then make sure you tell the person at the stand that you will need a seat just for you or just add one to the total in your party. It would also probably work if you had a small child to ride with. No problems at all on any other rides!

Just incase you are interested....I hate the swimdresses myself that look like long dresses/skirts. Walmart has a great suit right now for $30 that the skirt portion starts lower on the body and has a designed top with a "belted" center area in black and a straight black skirt. It is a great style of suit that doesn't give you that dress look that starts below your bust line...
Also, there are great suits online that are shorts, such as skortsuits or skortini's. I like them a lot as well. One of my favorites is on Onestopplus.com. They have a bunch on there that are like this. They usually fit bigger!:thumbsup2
I hope you find something you like!!

Do you have a local Fashion Bug? I got my swimsuits from them last year, and they're great. They are tankini style, and the bottoms are skirted (with built-in swim briefs. The top covers you completely, and come in many different styles.

I have a lands end suit. It is a 2 piece halter top with a skirt bottom. The skirt bottom is strait and not very skirty and it has the tummy control in it so it sucks everything in. I have had it for 3 years now and it looks brand new still, so I would say worth the money.

For those looking for awesome shoes to wear that also look really cute...Have I got a pair for you! Now normally I wear Adidas shoes, but I am almost 30 now and thought it was about time I try something else. So my husband let me buy some new shoes for my birthday. I searched high and low to find just the right pair that would be good for walking around the World and the Land. Well Zappos finally had the winner.

http://www.zappos.com/ahnu-benicia-ii-mood-indigo

I got these shoes a mere three days before we were to go to Disneyland for our anniversary. Well they felt awesome right from the second I put them on. Then the test...Disneyland, in the rain, from open to close on a Saturday! Well it wasn't until about 10pm that my feet actually started to hurt. It wasn't the shoes either, it was just my feet. I was about 275lbs when we went. The shoes held up perfectly and are still going strong to this day. Some people had said that the strap on top comes loose, but I have not had that problem at all. They look great with pants or skirts, with normal socks or little socks or no socks at all. They have good arch support and are a little on the wide side, but just right for giving your feet room to grow from walking all day long. I just love them. I plan to bring them on our trip to the World this November.

As for bags...I have finally found a bag that I just love. I am a bag fanatic! Zappos saved the day again.

http://www.zappos.com/sherpani-iris-backpack-chocolate

This backpack has just the right amount of space for all the little things I need and some big things too. The straps are nice. It looks cute, and doesn't make me feel like I am hiking with it on. The straps don't cut into my arms like many backpacks do. It is well balanced. I really like it. Now for taking it to the World this November I plan to treat it with water proofing so it won't get stained or wet while in rides with it. It is just the right size to be a little more than a purse. I really like having a backpack now even though I have been a shoulder bag person for a long time because I noticed it was really throwing my hips off. So I have converted to a backpack. But with this one I don't feel like I am going to be out for like 3-4 days in it like with most backpacks!

My piece of advice of the day....GET A LOCKER!! We did this for the first time at Disneyland, CA this February. It was the best thing ever! We didn't have to fumble with our bags everywhere and we could go back to it at any time. We plan on getting a locker everyday while in the World because we can store the things we won't need all the time there and not have to worry about them being stolen or getting too sore from lugging them around.

I hope this helps! It sure helped us. Good luck!

Welovedisney!

I must say I found this thread so helpful. Thanks to everyone for the great tips. I am a 22/24 and have been for years. Here are some things I have tried:

Shoes- Last year we went in May and i wore my Birkenstocks (which i have faithfully worn for years, everywhere we go). My feet hurt so bad after one day:sad2:, so I switched to my Nike flip flops:thumbsup2. They were a life saver and no more sore feet. That would have never been my first choice of shoes but I already have them packed for our trip in May. I would love to try TEVA's but I am afraid to spend the money on something I may not like since I have to order online:confused3.

Swimming Suit- As for a swimming suit, I love Avenue:love:. I am not a big fan of skirted suits, but I had no choice since I don't like the unskirted ones any longer.

Bag for the park- My bag of choice last year was a Vera Hipster:goodvibes. It was great. This year I am taking a Vera Mini Hipster. I carried it last weekend to an Amusement Park and loved it. It was very light and very comfortable.

I recently broke down and bought some Teva Mush flip flops and I now live in them! My feet always hurt which I've just accepted as part of my weight issue but I decided to try out some of the shoes DISers rave about and see if they helped. First I got some Keens and love love love them. But when the weather is warm I just can not bear to put real shoes on my feet so I needed some flip flops. I really didn't expect the Teva's to be as great as everyone says they are, their just flip flops after all. :confused3

Boy was I wrong! I love these shoes and while I plan to take my Keens to WDW just in case my Teva mush are my go to shoes. I do think they run a little small- the size 9 fit me but they just fit, a little bigger wouldn't have hurt at all so next time I'll probably get 9 1/2.

Just a note about Avenue swimsuits. Avenue is where I buy most of my clothes and I love them. However, last year I bought two swimsuits from them. Would have loved them except the cup area of the swimsuit seemed to have been stitched with a fishing wire. It was a hard plastic kind of stitching that hurt like crazy when I wore it. After about 10 minutes of having the top on, I had to change. So just a word to the wise, check the stitching in the suits you choose. FWIW, I bought a swimsuit from Avenue this year and it was different stitching.

If you are afraid to dole out too much money, I would check Sierra Trading Post (http://www.sierratradingpost.com). They often have Teva Mush, Terra-Fi, and others discounted and they usually have coupon codes.

I also wanted to report back on my recent Land's End purchase. I bought 2 polo shirts and a tunic t-shirt. I LOVE them!! the polos are cut for a woman, but not tight at all and they are plenty long. The tunic t-shirt is awesome! The sleeves are right to the elbow and they are very long! My lower belly is the part I hate most and this covers it nicely!

I'm from the UK so my clothing sources won't help you much ... but I survive the parks in cropped combats, my adidas superstar sneakers, and t shirts.

As far as a bag is concerned I swear by Kipling ... I'm not sure how easy they are to get in the USA but I noticed on my trip at Easter that the Prime Outlet Mall on International Drive has a store so you can get them!

In response to the poster who asked where can you get plus size at Disney - both the Disney Outlet at Premium Outlets and Prime Outlets has a designated plus size rail - I didn't see anything I liked this trip but have picked up both resort and park t shirts there. I did get my Dad a Beach Club polo this trip in a 3XL, and the bonus is it was a fraction of the price (oh I bought a hooded sweatshirt from the unisex stuff!)

I'm totally with Amy on this one...I love and swear by Monistat's chafing relief powder-gel. Every pooh sized woman that I have told about it loves it too! And of course, I learned about it on the Disboards when I was planning a trip to WDW! :thumbsup2

We went to Universal one summer and even though I had a great time, the chafing on my inner thighs got so bad that I was crying at night and by the last day I was walking like I had rode a horse for a week straight. So two years later, with me roughly the same weight, we went to Disney. Total and complete difference with the chafing gel! I put it on under the girls and on my inner thighs. I threw it in my pack and if I needed to I would put on more during the day, but it's really long lasting. I love it!

I am a generous pooh-sized 24 and after a recent cruise which gave me some insight as to what I needed on vacation, I have planned as follows:

Shoes - I ordered Mary-Jane style Crocs online from their website - for me, nothing feels as good as a Croc shoe, no matter how unattractive they may be sometimes! I also ordered my son a new pair that he will wear everyday (not only at Disney but for the whole summer! He loves them!)

Clothes - I went to Ross, Old Navy, Target, Wal-Mart, and Cato and bought shirts and capris. I don't wear shorts so I stick to capris and comfort is my goal! Cotton blends in light color stretchy fabric.

Chafing/Sweating - I bought Monistat Chafe Relief (or whatever it is called!) and Band-aid Friction Block since I could not find body-glide anywhere around me. I also am bringing a bottle of baby powder and some pantie liners for moisture control! (Let's face it, it's a reality when walking in hundred degree with 100 pounds extra attached to you!)

Bag - I am bringing a regular backpack and a side slung backpack - not sure which one I'll carry since I will have 2 kids to carry them also. I will also have a camera case around my neck, I found in the Bahamas this was the easiest and best "purse" to carry as it held my money, camera, room key, etc. If I didn't need the water bottles, chapstick, sunblock, fan misters, chafe block, etc. I would not carry the backpack!!

I am still concerned with getting on rides and walking sooooo much! Obviously at 100 lbs overweight my idea of walking is to the mailbox and back! I think I will be renting an ECV for Epcot because I seriously will NOT be able to enjoy myself walking that far, plus I would ruin it for my kids when I want to go back to the room after 2 hours! So at Epcot (at least) I will be rolling around in a scooter! :cool2:

I'm coming in a little late to this thread, but wanted to add my 2 cents.

For bathing suits, my favorite site is Junonia.com. I'm very Pooh-sized, size 32/34 and carry my weight in my hips/thighs. I have found bathing suits on Junonia, both one piece and two piece, that come almost to my knees, and look really great. I love them since they cover the evil upper thigh area. They aren't cheap, but superior quality. They also have lots of other active clothing for plus size women as well. Great site.

As a pooh sized girl, size 24 and 5'9", I was so excited to see this thread. I don't have much trouble with shorts riding up - I carry most of my weight around my middle, guess I'm an apple and not a pear?? Any pair of shorts will do for me and I love my crocs. I have been suprised to find that I am more comfortable in them barefoot in the parks than with socks on. This also helps for rainstorms or wet rides. I always wear ponchos on wet rides because I can't STAND to have wet shorts and undies. I have a great fanny pack that I got at Walmart. My local Walmart still stocks them and they are cheap - look for the fanny pack with the clip on waistband extender. I wear it over my tummy and with shift it around to my side or back depending on what ride I am on. Does anyone do the parks in a sundress? I find in my non Disney life that I am sometimes cooler in a sundress than in shorts and a T. I am a little concerned about chafing and just wonder if I would feel comfortable climbing off and on rides etc. in a dress. :upsidedow

Thanks for this tip! My husband has been more than reluctant to spend the $ for a Disney vacation because he is afraid he will not be able to go on any of the rides with me and would be Grumpy (to say the least) to spend a week waiting in lines with me and then not being able to ride stuff. He has a 56-58" waist/chest. He flies Southwest with a seatbelt extension, but can sit in one seat. He sticks out more than he is wide. I have FINALLY talked him into going (this will be his first trip to WDW, we've done DL here in CA a couple times) and am looking for all the "Pooh-sized" tips I can to help make him more comfortable about giving in. LOL

Well I have been to WDW being several sizes in the last several years. The first time I went, I was about a size 16. I was able to ride everything I wanted to while we were there. I had no problems at all. The second time we went I was around a size 24-26 womens. I had a harder time with the roller coaster type rides that time. There was actually a couple rides I was turned away from because I could not fit in them. I also had a very hard time with the turn stiles that trip. I got stuck in a couple and had to work very hard to get out of it. It was quite embarrassing for me.

This February though, I did get to go with my husband to Disneyland and had lost quite a bit of weight and was down to about a 22 from a 30 at that point. I was able to fit on all the rides without any issue, and did not get stuck in any turn stiles at all. So I feel that this trip will be much better.

WDW has done some remodels recently from what I have heard and it has been almost three years since we have been there. I was told that if you feel concerned about the turn stiles you can go through any disabled entrance. You can easily go on all the rides that pregnant women and small children can go on. Some of the thrill rides might be a little harder depending on the type of restraint the ride has. The over head restraints will likely be a little harder if he is more top heavy. You can always check out what rides have what kind of restraints around online. I think AllEars.net has a list of them all.

Other than that...Just make sure to wear comfortable shoes and stay hydrated!

Hugs!

LisaCat, my DH is Pooh size and as you can see, we have quite a few WDW trips under our belt. He doesn't need a seatbelt extender (he carries it in the middle, but his hips are still skinny :confused3 LOL!) but he can't fit on basically anything at regular amusement parks. 2 things I can tell you... the turnstile at HM is TIGHT, you may want to tell the greeter at the front of the que that you want to use the handicap entrance (as my DH JUST fits turning sideways) and that Space Mountain is rough, but that is mostly because of his height. Any specific questions please let me know and I'll annoy him till he answers me  We go in August for a short trip, I'll try to do some posts on the Pooh sized perspective upon our return. Oh, and a lot of places have cars you can test out prior to boarding. 2 things you may find helpful... Passporter's Open Mouse (a book) and WDW at Large http://allears.net/tp/ridsiz.htm

Hi! Here is a pic of my hubby from our trip last month. He wears a 3x-4x tshirt and a 50-52" waist. He goes on everything without a worry. THe only thing he hasnt been on the last few trips was Dumbo, Goofy's Barnstormer and the Tea Cups. Not because he couldnt fit(He has been on them before) but we just didnt get to them- not favorites. Seriously - my DH loves going to Disney because he doesnt have to worry about not fitting!! He doesnt like other amusement parks because of NOT fitting - Your DH will have a GREAT time in the Disney Parks....LOVE Rock - n - roller coaster!!! Expedition Everist is awesome too. A trick for seatbelt rides is pull out the seatbelt before and as you sit down so its easier to plug it in!! Have fun and dont worry!!

I would like to know how you other Pooh-sized folks beat the heat and exhaustion of a trip to Disney, particularly those of you who go in summer. Let's face it, the heat and walking are much, much harder on us than they are on Tigger types. Three years ago we went to Williamsburg, VA on a 102 F. day, and the next day I had some sort of seizure and ended up hospitalized for quite some time. They could never find any reason for it (despite every test in the book) other than dehydration and exhaustion. Now we're going to Disney this July and I'm terrified the same thing is going to happen. The problem is the rest of my family is in terrific shape and I push myself too hard to keep up with them. Common sense tells me to take it easy, drink, drink, drink, and use my mister/fan, but are there any other tips you can give me to make my vacation seem like a vacation and not like the Bataan Death March?;)

My DH is a Tigger type but suffered from heat stroke several years ago so he also has to be very careful. Your family should be aware that this is serious and once you have a heat related incident you are more succeptable (sp??) to another so you have to be careful. I am the pooh sized one but I worry just as much about him!

In addition to water bottles and mister fans we also bring wet bandanas that we put in ziploc bags. We can wrap them around our necks and you'd be surprised how much it cools you down. We also have touring plans so that we can get out of the heat into some air conditioned shows at regular intervals. And we take breaks in the afternoon during the heat of the day, head back to the resort to swim or relax in the room. Not only do we beat the heat we feel energetic for our evenings after an afternoon siesta. :thumbsup2

Take breaks as often as you need them. Drink lots and lots of water. Freeze a water bottle the night before, so that it slowly thaws throughout the day and you always have ice water. Don't be afraid to go into a restaurant and ask for a cup of ice water, either. They'll give it to you free of charge. Take advantage of air conditioned rides and shows (like Hall of Presidents, which is the COLDEST building at MK, or Carousel of Progress or Philhar) and the water rides. They sell these things that stay cold that you wrap around your neck, too. I forget what exactly they're called, but I did a Google search for 'cool neck wraps' and it pulled up a bunch of different companies. Also, wear a hat to protect your face and neck from the sun. It doesn't sound like much, but it really helps. Wear sunblock and bring it into the park with you to reapply later, since sunburn can make you feel hotter than you already are. I'm Pooh sized and used to work custodial CM at MK and was there from May to January, so I got quite used to dealing with the heat.

Above all, remember to stay hydrated and take breaks when you need them!

On our last trip we went the beginning of August! It was H-O-T! So we went to the parks at the park opening and then either had a nice sit down meal in the hottest part of the day, or went back to the room in the afternoon for a nap. Then we would go back to the park in the evening or hit the rides again. This really helped. It also helped to sit where ever possible. Those mister fans can really help a lot. Listen to your body and take it easy as much as you can. Get cold drinks when you can. I would suggest freezing a water bottle at night as well as getting one of those cooling bandannas you can get at REI. They are really great. Wear good shoes that are made for lots of walking and standing. Maybe you could look into getting a GAC (Guest Assistance Card) from Guest services. You can look in the Disabilities forum for more info on that. But it might help you to be able to sit somewhere instead of having to stand in the stuffy lines.

Make sure that you let your family know about what happened before. You need to be able to take it easy. If that means you all need to split up into groups, then that is what you should do.

Hugs! Good luck to you!

I like the no-wire bras from Lane Bryant. They fit well, offer good support, and are usually only $16 each. TMI, but I use deodorant/antiperspirant under "the girls" on hot days. Works like a charm!

I love all of the tips on this thread, so I wanted to add something.

On Woman Within you can get 50% off of the higher priced item when you order 2 items-that might be a first time customer special :confused3 Anyway, I used this yesterday to get myself a swimsuit and a pair of cargo shorts that convert from bermudas to regular shorts.

This is the suit I picked up and I'm really hoping it does the trick, I have areas I want covered :rotfl: (of course they show a Tigger person wearing it, but I think it will work)

I stopped in Dress Barn Woman today on a whim.

They are getting in some great light weight pretty shirts. I picked up a shirt like a tank top with 3 thin floaty layers in white with black, pink flowers and some green. It fits really nice and looks great on. It's also much lighter weight than regular tank tops.

I also picked up a salmon tank top that was in one of the pictures on the wall. It has a slash look, comes with a detachable necklace and is also very light weight. It's another one that looks really good when you try it on.

I sure was glad I stopped in today.

:lovestruc
Bag-I stayed away from the bagalini for years, but it really is the best. I also love my Vera Bradley hipster. My backsack is also nice because it avoids my front.
no riders are patches you put on the inside of your shorts so they do not ride up. I love them. They have a website, noriders.com They cost about $3 a pair.
Ooh, cool.

In addition to the body glide, I really prefer the Monistant anti-chafing cream for my thighs.

I've seen a plus size section in the big WoD.

I'm your average plus size girl and I've found that old navy and torrid are the best places for plus size clothes.
Course old navy is MUCH less exprensive than torrid if you go to the back of the store where all the five dollar tshirts are and ten dollar dresses ;]

As for a bag I'd suggest a backpack or if you want something cute go to the kids/tweens section of any clothing store or claire's accesory store (sounds silly I know) and look for one of these http://www.belladulcecreations.com/images/Scene%20Magazine/Petite%20purse%201.jpg

I always use them for disney either those or a tote bag if the bag doesnt zip go buy some iron on velcro from jo ann fabrics or any other craft store like that. I suggest flip flops or go to payless and buy those SUPER comfy slip on sneakers that are EVERYWHERE their great for planes too slip on and off really easy be sure to go to your local cvs or walgreens and get mole skin just in case for blisters thats just a good disney tip for anyone!

Also dress barn has some amazing capris and figure flattering tops right now I highly suggest checking them out. Hope I helped!

oh and this may be a bit gross for some but it is helpful when you love sundresses and skirts like I do go to bath and body works or to the travel size hygene section in walmart (to find non sceneted since scented sometimes burns) and pick up a bottle of lotion to rub on your thighs to avoid the dreaded chub rub. This is some advice I give to skinny friends as well thighs are all meant to be thick haha. Also highly suggest the underwear with the tummy tuck thing on the top they are comfortable and great for when your feeling a little uncomfortable with your belly in dresses keeps you smooth and feeling better about your appearance. ALSO just becase your 'plus size' doesnt mean that you need to buy a shirt eight sizes too big for you! Dress your body correctly and buy thing that work with your curves! Bring a friend shopping with you try on a bunch of different sizes to help self esteem I start with the biggest size and work my way down haha seriously it works.

I second the vote on the Lane Bryant/Calcique Cotton no-wire bra! I dust liberally with Gold Bond powder. Until I discovered Gold Bond, I always had a raw rash under, to use the biological term, my pendulous breasts. I use it all the time, not just on hot days and no longer have any irritation problems. Also helps prevent all manner of chafing. I have even procured small travel-size containers that are a great thing to stuff in my Disney bag for touring the parks.

Another GREAT place for big girls to shop on-line is Junionia.com. They stock some exceptionally high quality activewear at fair prices--not cheap, but I have never regretted a purchase. I love their swimwear, tees, capris, cargo shorts, sports bras, bicycle shorts & leggings, as well as some of their "technical" underwear. Some of the mid-thigh cool-max undies can make even 20 hours stuck in economy airline seats.

They also stock things like "pooh-sized" fanny packs, shoes and travel togs.

Try using a neck cooler, and WEAR A REAL HAT! The neck cooler is a bit of fabric sewn together such that it contains gel crystals. You soak these in water and then wear it around your neck like a loose bandana. It's easy to rehydrate it during the day in the bathroom or at a water fountain.

Both are available at Tilley.com. There was a time when you could purchase a proper Tilley hat at the Canada Trading Post in Epcot, but those days are long gone.

I'll have to check the overland bags!!

Love my body glide!

Now I wear crocs but not everyday. Not enough support for daily use. I wear my teva dozers and keen Newport h2s!! Then rotate

They make a croc that has some support. I am a nurse in the OR and have feet issues. They are comfortable, slide on easy and have grippers on the bottom so they dont slide on wet surfaces. They are bright orange and are some chefs line of crocs- mario Battali I think (they are too gross now for me to read the print).

I took a large stuffed Minnie Mouse. Cut a slit down middle. Took some stuffing out . Sewed 3 sides of a t-shirt together. Bast sticthed it inside for a pocket.Added velcro to close. Sewed on Long straps. I had my own large Disney bag that fit. ME. Got so many comments on it. Everyone wanted to know where I got it. Had to make another though for my DD to use as a pajama bag. Hmmm....Maybe I should make more and pay for park tickets for next trip. I'd probably get in trouble for that though. Oh well just a thought.

I'm actually waiting on my swimsuit for this summer to come in the mail. My advice is to buy a good swimsuit with good support. What I love about the alwaysforme swimsuits is that suck you in in all the right places. Now who can complain about that. :woohoo:

Try using a neck cooler, and WEAR A REAL HAT! The neck cooler is a bit of fabric sewn together such that it contains gel crystals. You soak these in water and then wear it around your neck like a loose bandana. It's easy to rehydrate it during the day in the bathroom or at a water fountain.

Both are available at Tilley.com. There was a time when you could purchase a proper Tilley hat at the Canada Trading Post in Epcot, but those days are long gone.

I looked at the neck cooler at Tilley thought it was a little too expensive for my budget so I started to think there has to be something like it out there look what I found here :) !! May have to put this on the Budget Board too

I read through the first page of this thread and I'm so excited. I will go back and read more but I would love to know of any struggles pooh-sized folks have fitting on rides?

I'm a size 20 and will be visiting soon with young kids, so I'll be accompanying them on rides/attractions. Thanks! So Much!

I just read the whole thread today for the first time & picked up alot of good info in re-to your question please let me reassure you I have been going to WDW since the late 1970's my weight has been all over the place a size 20 will have no problems on anything WDW is extremely pooh size friendly...and as a side note if you ever wanted to do Discovery Cove their wetsuits go up to all sizes, they are smart too

At Disney I have no problems getting on anything!! Im a 20/22 2x girl and have no difficulty getting onto/off of anything! I ride with little kids and big kids too!! My DH is a 4x and he also does well at Disney. I cant think of anything at all that he doesnt ride except the make your own rollercoaster thing at Disney Quest - his shoulders were too broad for that. Enjoy yourself and dont worry!!!!

Thank you all! This is a fabulous thread. I'm thinking there might be a need to have a dedicated spot for this topic among the boards. Just reading the responses has eased a tremendous amount of anxiety for me regarding my upcoming trip. Let's see, I've ordered light fabric T-shirts (light colored), along with bra liners and am contemplating the cooling neck wrap.

About the cooling bandana/neck wrap things, I read a review on REI's website that indicated they were best for dry/hot climates. Someone mentioned they're useless in high humidity, "felt like a wet hot sausage around my neck" was something mentioned on the reviews. If' you've worn this cooling wrap in FL, what did you think?

Thanks again!

(yes right here in FL) they highly recommend them. So I will definitely be buying them..and with the link I put up a few posts ago I will be getting some for my dogs too..since it says the crystals are non-toxic :cool1:

I have used these in the past and they do help - up to a point. When you first put it on it feels oh so cool, but after a while it does feel kind of like a wet sausage around your neck (love that image). It's also a little bit heavy when it's wet. I found it best to wear it for a while, take it off for a while, put it back on, etc. Sometimes I would use it to wipe down my arms and face and that felt good. It's also kind of slimy and leaves your neck feeling kind of greasy. By the way, I got mine at Wal-Mart for less than $2 in the camping supplies. Hope that helps.

Another girl one talk here guys, so you might want to skip this post

I do not wear underwire bras but I wear a very large size and in the heat they tend to rub the skin under the girls which causes chaffing  I once ended up at the doctor here with a real bad under girls rash which was very painful :sad2: I now use Body Glide not only on my thighs which are large but under the bra and girls and never had a problem since.

It really works well in Fla where I tend to sweat a lot in the hot summer weather and does not sweat off all day :thumbsup2

I am 5'10' and a large 32W

The best shorts I have found if you like denim shorts are Only Necessities sold at Woman Within online (might be in their stores too but we do not have them here). The pull on type ones are best I have found and are comfortable all day in the parks no matter how hot they are. They have nice deep pockets which I like to stow things in both at the parks and for everywhere wear.I also wear their shirts a lot mostly the cotton stretch ones tunic length as they are nice and long and I am tall.

NB is my shoe of choice for WDW

What colors did you get? I am looking at ordering some and I don't want the light stone if they are going to be see through if they get wet on the bottom.:scared1: Also are they true to size?

Thanks!:)

Do yourself and your family a favor and rent an ECV. It is worth the money and thye will be running to keep up with you

I've read through all the posts now, and have picked up some good information about shoes. That's the problem I have - my feet HURT!

I saw so many people post about Body Glide. I just wanted to chime in and say that you can also use antipersperant. It works the same way.

I wore a pair of shorts (a little higher than mid-thigh) at Animal Kingdom, and of course, with the humidity, they rode up and I had chafing. The next time I wore the shorts again, I put a swipe of Degree on each thigh, and it didn't happen again.

Also, sometimes we get lucky in MouseGears at Epcot, and find 3X polo shirts for men. Hope this helps any men looking for casual work shirts.

Can't wait to read more posts!

Just returned from the World a couple weeks ago and wanted ro let the ladies know they are now carrying some women's t-shirts in sizes up to 3X. They are women's cut so close to the body. I bought one that fit great and is very stylish (It has a pink plaid Mickey silhouette on it) I hope this is a trend that continues and they continue to cater to us Pooh sizes!

They fit true to size on me. I got brown and blue. I was worried about the light stone too so I decided against ordering it. They do have the pull tight string at the waist. I tucked that into the waistband of the shorts so it wouldn't stick out so much.

They worked great on the trip. I had my Passporter Pouch around my neck and everything else went into the cargo pants pockets.

I used them twice since I've gotten home too. It's a wierd feeling to go into Walmart with only my phone, car keys and wallet in the pockets but it's very freeing. LOL

What is the name/brand of the cream you use?

I wore croc flip flops everyday for our trip last year and my feet were fine (expected level of sore but no blisters or anything) but I am thinking about ordering a pair of Teva's for this years trip to swap out with my crocs. Does anyone have any recommedations for a good floppy type hat that is still somewhat cute? It was so hot last Sept and DH & I both want to get hats for this year but I don't want a ball cap type bc I always feel hotter in those.

I am definitely pooh-sized(26/28) last year and in a 24 now, hopefully 22/24 by Sept. and rode everything last year with no problems! I was hot but we drank tons of water, sat down when we could and tried to get into the air conditioned rides for every few outdoor rides. This year we plan on taking breaks during the day bc that was our biggest mistake last year.

I have purchased my last two swimsuits thru Lands End, great fit and nice thickness of material. Looking to buy another one for this season.

I second (or third I didn't finish reading the whole thread) Lands End Swim Suits. I own 5 tankinis from them. Yes they are expensive, but they last forever. Lands End has great customer service and helped me over the phone pick the right size when I first was buying. I wear a 22 pants and all my suits tops and bottoms are 20W. Great support, style, and color options. I get many compliments on my suits and how cute they are. I cannot say enough great things about Lands End Suits.

We're leaving in one month on our cross country trek to WDW. I'm very pooh sized (5'5" & size 32/4x) with much of my weight in my booty, thighs, and lower middle. I've read all of this thread and WDW at Large at allears.net and it was all very helpful.

I received my Baggallini messenger bag from Amazon yesterday. Strap is definitely long enough. I've read that some well-endowed women have problems with the strap, but I don't fall in the well-endowed category, so it's fine for me.

Based on what I've read on various message boards and websites, I shouldn't have a problem on most rides. However, I'd love to hear about experiences from people with similar dimensions to mine.

Thank you to all that have posted their stories. They have helped relieve my anxieties!!!! :woohoo:

I'm leaving on Monday morning (full flight, wish me luck!) and I'm 5'7 and a size 28, plus major baggage in the rear if you know what I mean. This is my 3rd DW trip. The first two times I went, I never even had the gusto or courage to even attempt to ride any of the rides because of my size. After reading this thread, I am confident that 3 times a charm and this will be one of the most exciting DW trips to date :woohoo:!!!!!!!!!!!!

5'6", size 20/22... here are my hints:

Spray my feet with antiperspirant every morning. Keeps them from sweating and reduces blister-potential.

A swipe of stick antiperspirant under the girls and on inner thighs, then baby powder. Never have an issue with chafing. I've also been known to run a swipe of antiperspirant down the middle of my back.

Frozen washcloths- I wet and freeze washcloths overnight, then take them in ziplocks in an insulated sandwich pouch into the parks. They stay pretty frozen, at least until 3pm in June, and feel SO GOOD on my neck, forehead, and arms in the middle of the day!

Towels- I bring my own bath towel to Disney- a REAL towel, that actually goes around me! It makes me feel better having a towel that FITS!

Take it slowly- WDW isn't a race, and there isn't any sense in rush, rush, rush. Drink lots, walk through air conditioned shops instead of the middle of Main St, and hit the a/c shows in the middle of the afternoon.

Regarding the no wire bras...I just bought one at Fashion Bug this weekend. I'm a 38G, and although they don't sell them that big, I ended up buying a 40DDD, and I LOVE it!! Fashion Bug is owned by Lane Bryant, and I find that they have similar styles at the stores, ie. Right Fit pants and the back smoothing bra. The bra at Fashion Bug was only $19.99, and if I wanted to buy a second one, it would have been half price. I was worried about not having enough support but that didn't seem to be too much of a problem. Granted, I bought it just to wear around the house and to sleep in. I may try going onto the LB site, and finding a no wire bra in my exact size to wear to the parks.

I am not that much smaller than you. I am 5'4" and wear a size 26, my butt and thighs are my biggest problem(o.k they're huge) and I too am not at all well endowed (I hate how all the plus size stores sell bras only for well endowed ladies because they assume evryone that is big has a big chest). We went to Disney in Feb and I rode everything except:

-Splash mountain(closed for refurb:mad:) but I have ridden it many times before
-astro orbiters(because I just don't like it) i have ridden it once before no problems
-Kali River Rapids(too cold on AK day)ridden it many times before
-Rockin Roller Coaster(just wasn't feelin it) never rode it at all
-mission space( not my thing) never rode it

*I have ridden everything else in Disney without any issues. you will have no problem so don't worry. Dinosaur can be a little tight but just pull the seat belt all the way out before you sit down, also do this with soarin'.

I'm around the size of the original quoted person (can't figure out how to do double quotes) but I do have the football shoulders and chest to go with it.. :guilty: I've only had size issues with two things at Disney: the design-your-own-coaster at Disney Quest and the Sum of All Thrills at Innoventions in Epcot. They just did not work, but that was the way it was with anyone in certain sizes. My hubby (180, 5'6") was fine on the Disney Quest ride but couldn't get the Sum of All Thrills harness to click when we were there last year...

Rockin' Roller Coaster I fit fine, and Mission Space: Green (non-spinning) was fine (but if you're at all claustrophobic ditch it). I  Disney because I can actually fit all the rides and the coasters, and I don't have to worry about things not fitting right- I just have to quest for Disney clothes that fit! :lmao:

At some of the older attractions I did have to turn sideways a bit to get through the queue counter because of my hips, but there were a lot more people sideways than me, and a lot more people that thought they would have to be! :rotfl:

The nice thing is that for most of the coasters and newer rides (RnR, EE, etc.) they have test seats in a corner somewhere that you can try out and see if you're comfortable in- just ask a cast member. Allearsnet.com also tells you what sections to ask for as well- make sure you follow that and you'll be set!

Thanks for your advice. I've decided I'm just gonna psych myself up and try everything. I can either feel embarrassed and have no fun, or bite the bullet and potentially have a great time. I do plan on asking the various CMs advice on any rides about which I have concerns. I may not end up not being able to ride everything, but I'm sure I can ride most things.

I will not let small setbacks spoil my fun. pixiedust:

I think we are about the same sizes. I rode everything I wanted last year with no problems but didn't get to ride Space Mountain bc of the refurb and I'm a little worried about fitting in it. Have either of you ridden it (or anyone else around a size 24-26) since the refurb? How are the seats? What about tall, big guys? DH is 6'4 340ish (very football player build) and I really want us to both be able to ride. Do they have a test seat?

I haven't been on since the refurb (it was down during our stress trip last year) but I don't think they changed the seats all that much; from my understanding they redid the tracks and changed the show part of it. I had no problem fitting in it (did hug the hips a bit but doesn't everything? :rotfl: ) but the bar came down without a problem. We did go to the smoother side (I think it's right- check the ride threads I'm sure someone's mentioned it) so as not to get bumped around. Only issue I had is that I have a very bad habit of crossing my feet at my ankles and the seats were low, so I had to grab the seat back to get up. :-) I also saw tall, big guys getting on, they just made sure that they took the front seat (and the CMs made sure that they were pointed towards that area as well). There wasn't a test car when we were there in 2007 (which is the most recent time we rode at WDW) and there wasn't one at DL's version either when we went in 2008. I was actually hoping the refurb at WDW would have been to make it more like DL's version, but from reports I'm guessing not.

The only thing I'd worry about with your sweetie is his legs- the restraint is a lapbar, not a shoulder one. Ask specifically for him to be in the front car, and I bet he's fine. :goodvibes

I never have until I bought the no wire one. I love it. It just "feels" better. :cloud9: Maybe we should move this convo over to the women's tips board. :cutie:

There's a women's tips board??

Ok, I went into every forum to locate it, and checked out some sub-forums and just cannot find it...

Does anyone have suggestions for shoes during the summer at Disney. I am a new annual passholder and I would love to get something to wear during the summer. I need support since I am "pooh" sized. Tennis shoes are too hot any good sandals that offer a lot of support?

People either love them or hate them, but I LOVE my crocs. I have six pairs that I rotate through. They will get the ultimate test at Disney. However, a couple of years ago, I wore them walking several miles around NYC, and they were the only reason my feet and knees survived.

I am also a crocs lover - I prefer the Crocs Off Roads or Scutes. The Off Roads have more support and the Scutes have a double layer sole so its extra cushiony - found this out when I had a bout with plantar fascitis. I found even the Caymans have better support than the beaches for me...but everyone is different!!

For Disney, I purchased Ace Boating Crocs (http://www.crocs.com/crocs-ace-boating/10376,default,pd.html?cid=283&cgid=women-footwear-sport) and I really like the non-skid outsole. I thought this would help prevent any accidental falls during the daily rain showers in Florida. Also, the support is a little firmer than the Beach, which I think will be better.

Wow! I wrote down so many web site to check out from this thread! I don't know what bag to bring (in 2 weeks) for my first adult trip since kids. I also hate getting sweatty and having a damp bra. I have bot been able to wear flip flops (something between my big toe and the 2nd toe) since I was a very young child, they always were so very uncomfortable and even hurt my toes. Two weeks ago a friend of mine took me to JC Pennys for adidas flip flops, but 1 get the 2nd pair for 44 cents. I was in such pain walking around the mall that night-I kept thinking why did I buy these horrible flip flops. The next morning I slipped them on the take the garbage out quickly and they were not sooo bad. I have not put any other shoes on since then-I love them. BUT I cannot walk fast or they are not feeling the best. I think I will bring them for atleast the airports and pool. I need to always carry another pair of shoes and keep switcing them during the day, I also CANNOT let my shoes of any kind get wet, I walked barefoot from Epcot to DHS in 2008 during a rain of about 2 hours.:guilty:

Waterproof Keens!!

My husband & I made the plunge and purchased a pair each about a month ago. I do like these. So comfy and stands up to lots of walking (so far, knock-on-wood) without my feet aching afterwards. I cannot wear flipflops or other flat-style shoes.

I was a crocs lover and wore them all last year on our trip but I just finally bought a pair of Teva Terra Fi3's and they are awesome! Way more support than my crocs. I was starting to have some foot/hip pain and I think the crocs were part of the reason as I wear them 95% of the time (well that and the extra weight!). I will probably buy a couple new pair of croc flip flops for the water park or walking around the resort, etc. but I really love the Tevas.

I know you said no tennis shoes but I also bought a pair of New Balance 993s to replace my 991s and all I can say is WOW. My feet, legs and back just feel so much better when I have these on so I am definitely taking them to Disney for the days I know we won't get wet and there is no rain in the forecast (Epcot, DHS). I might even have DH put my crocs or Tevas in the backpack and wear these most of the time bc of how much better I feel when & after wearing them.

I  New Balance, and use them all my shoes save for my pool/hotel hallway shoes- those are a pair of faux birkenstocks that I've had since college. :goodvibes The sales people never have issues with my wide width and unlike in other stores I have never been made to feel uncomfortable. I do go the actual NB stores when I wear out my shoes instead of picking them up at other places due to the option of getting the wider widths- I can't remember the kind I have for conferences/walking but they have webbing that gives all sorts of air through the shoe, a stability bar in the bottom, and my wonderful shoelaces from Hot Topic...

Best thing at the New Balance store I go to though is the people. When I went last week to replace my work shoes (getting foot and leg pain), they took a look (I had brought them in to compare to the new styles), and instead of selling me the new pair of shoes, they tried out just replacing the insoles of the old shoes. Said to give it a try, because it looked like I just wore out the inside support, not the outer part of the shoe (the tread? )... It worked, they feel good as new! So now instead of just chucking the old shoes when my feet/legs hurt and dropping $$$ for new shoes, I can get insoles at 1/3 of the price or less... Bought another set of insoles and tried them on a pair of NB tennis shoes that had started to make my feet hurt, and BOOM- they're back to being my favorites again! And they have a happy customer who's going to come back over and over! :cloud9:

NB does have sport sandal-type shoes, but I've never been brave enough to try them... I'm just more comfortable in my tennis shoes... I'd wear them to work (well wait, they're NB so I guess technically I DO wear them to work!!! ).... :woohoo:

I have another question. I recently learned you could rent Surrey Bikes (I think that's what they are called) where like 2-4 people ride together. Has anyone pooh sized had any issue fitting on these things or being able to ride? I am wondering if DH & I could both fit on it together.

What an awesome thread! Thanks for sharing the woman within website, I had never heard of it and spend over an hour "window" shopping last night! I have been so worried I wouldn't be able to find a sundress to wear on our Disney cruise that we're taking a few days before we go to MK. Now I'm having the issue of I can't pick just one!

Question about the woman within size charts, I am a 24w sometimes a 26w and almost always need to buy a 3x and sometimes larger depending on the brand. According to their chart this size would be a 2X with their company. Is this correct? Their size chart says a 3X is 28/30W and would probably be too large for me. Has anyone had any experience with ordering the 2 and 3X sizes through them and what size should I order?

In my experience with Woman Within sizes their 2X is a 26/28 which is what I wear. It is possible these may be a little large for you depending on the fit you like. You may want to look at their size charts and see what size your measurements fit, you may only be 1X. :flower3:

I haven't been on TOT in a few trips (once it was down, then I wasn't feeling well ...) and I'm totally stressing about the seatbelts... I'm stressing about ALL rides with seatbelts, actually. I got turned away from the river raft ride here at storyland because the belt was like an inch too short. I carry all my weight in my midsection. Soooo, are there any rides I should avoid so I'm not mortifingly embarrassed like I was at that river raft ride?

Thanks everyone! I LOVE this thread (and am going to read page by page tonite when I have time, so I apologize in advance if this question has already been answered :) )

Im a size 22 and my DH wears a 50 pants and we have no problems with the seat belts - like they said - pull the seatbelt all the way out as you sit down - it comes out really far. Now, on Kali, I dont think we could sit together, so sit with a kiddo next to you or say you want a seat by yourself and you will be fine!!!!! HAVE FUN!!!

QUESTION - has anyone ever been to Disneyland????????? I'd love some info on that and size restrictions....thanks!!

I have a smaller Christmas Mickey that I am going to try that on. Lynn said that we could carry him to the Christmas party if nothing else. I hope that it turns out ok.
What kind of T-shirt did you use? I was thinking of using tshirt material.
Thanks for the idea

I purchase most of my casual and park touring clothing from Casual Male (http://www.casualmale.com/store/en_US/index.jsp). It's not the cheapest clothing out there, but the clothes are well made and holds up really well. I love their cargo shorts because there is a ton of room in those pockets and I get to skip the bag check lines.

This year, I splurged. I went to Zazzle (http://www.zazzle.com/disney/stories) and created Disney customized shirts for my trip. I was pleased with the quality of the shirts that were delivered and also the final outcome of the entire product. Luckily, I had a great discount code to help keep the cost down even further. :thumbsup2

I use New Balance shoes (http://www.newbalance.com/products/MW927/) in the parks and I usually have two pair to switch out. I also have a pair of Chaco Sandals (http://www.chacousa.com/US/en-US/ViewProduct.mvc.aspx/18798M/0/Mens/Z-1-Vibram-Unaweep-Wide?galleryId=M-SAND) that I absolutely love.

I usually wear the same bra in the parks that I wear everyday. I have worn a Playtex bra ever since I had the need to wear one from the beginning. I am not stopping now. I usually get mine through Just My Size (http://www.jms.com/).

I like the Medi Peds diabetic socks (http://www.walmart.com/ip/Medi-Peds-Ideal-For-Symptoms-of-Diabetes-Fits-Shoe-Sizes-Women-10-13-Men-9-12-Large-Quarter-Length-Socks-1-pr/10810963) because they are super soft, don't cut into my legs, and they just fit better overall. I usually pick them up at Walmart.

While I have never tried Body Glide, I do find that Monostat Anti-Chafing Relief Gel (http://www.monistat.com/soothing-care-powder-gel) is absolutely awesome for preventing chafing. I love the stuff. I usually can find it at Walmart. Why they market it in the same area with the regular Monostat products, I am not quite sure of, but when I can find it on the shelf, I usally buy several.

I have never been much of a purse kind of a person. However at WDW, I have been known to carry a backpack or a messenger bag. Both are no name products and both of them came from Walmart. I love them both and thankfully, they have both held up very well through the years. Heck, the backpack I have had since college, which makes it over 20 years old.

I usually end up renting an ECV from Walker Mobility (http://walkermobility.com/) due to a leg infection that I had about 3 years ago that has left my leg with really bad circulation and it swells alot when I am hot or when I stand or walk for very long. Thankfully, Walker offers scooters that will carry my Pooh sized keister.

I am a big fan of the info that Deb Wills has collected over on Allears (http://www.allears.net/tp/ridsiz.htm) because had I never found her site, I might not have found my love for all things Disney again. Her site is a gift that I can never thank her enough for. :flower3:

I feel very fortunate to be going to WDW in a couple of weeks. I have lost 70 pounds since I was there in December. I have a new outlook on life, thanks to finally being properly medicated for my thyroid & depression issues. But most of all, I get to spend some quality time with my partner of the past 11 years. She is my gift from God and I love to see the light of her inner child beaming through her eyes like it does so often while we are at WDW.

I have been to WDW just about ever year since 2001. I will gladly give input wherever it's needed. :grouphug:

My dd is very much into "the boys and the girls" ... so she and I are 'partners' for most rides, which is fine by me :cutie: although my dh is a skinny minny so he and I together on a ride isn't squishy :)

Hi All,

I've read through all the posts here and gotten some great tips for my pooh-sized self. I can agree that I've never had problems fitting on a ride at WDW, and I'm sure I would at other amusement parks.

I wanted to chime in shoe ideas. I just bought a pair of Teva Mush and am excited to wear them on our upcoming trip. But I also just bought a new pair of the flip flops I have been wearing for over a year, and I LOVE them! They are Speedo flip flops, and the strap part across your feet is STRETCHY! I have wide feet, and have a hard time finding shoes to fit right. These fit super good, and they are not even "wides". I love the pair I have, but when I went and bought my new pair at KOHL'S last week I couldn't believe how cushioned and bouncy the new pair is! I'm not sure if they changed them, or if the old pair just got all worn down over the past year. Probably the latter. Anyhow, no problem if your feet get hot and swell in them since the strap is stretchy. And they are super comfy.

Looking forward to my trip! And then when I'm home and sad I will write my trip report to keep the MAGIC alive!

Just wanted to give a quickly mid-trip update. I'm a size 30/32, 4x with most of my weight in my thighs, booty and lower stomach. I've been able to ride everything I've wanted so far and that has included:

Space Mountain
Buzz Lightyear
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
Splash Mountain
Cinderella's Carousel (yes, I launched my big ole booty onto that poor horse)
Dumbo
Soarin'
Test Track
Mission: Space

There have been many other rides, but I've listed the ones I was worried about before arriving at WDW. We haven't made it to HS or AK, but I'll give another update when I can.

Do not miss out on life because you are scared of not fitting or being embarrassed.
I will say it is a relief to know you will fit into things. I had this fear and was so relieved to know I could do anything I wanted (except ride Astro orbitor with DH. Alone I am fine)

Enjoy your trip and don't hesitate to "tackle" any ride...including Primevil Whirl. LOL

Hello! I am pooh sized and I have never been to WDW, but I have been to DL almost every year since I was born. I know that WDW is much bigger than DL and I am very worried about my feet aching. We will be going for 9 days, and I was wondering what suggestions any pooh size people have about shoes, and how to deal with aching feet?
As far as the rides go at DL, and CA, I have been able to fit on every ride with no problem. I am a size 22 and I carry most of my wait in my abdomen. The only ride that is very tight, and hard to get out of is Mullholands Madness in CA, because the seats are very small, and you sit deep in the seat. Also, Space Mountain is a little challenging to get out of the seat at the end of the ride, and the CM's ask you to go fast, but don't feel rushed, just take your time. I'm always worried about the seatbelts but I also just stretch the seatbelt as far as it will go before I even snap it in, and then I adjust it.
Thank you!:)

Thank you soo SOO much for this thread everyone, and not being embarrassed to talk about your weight! I haven't been this big in about 6 years, but so many events have happened to me over the last 10 months and I just gained and gained and gained and took it out on food.

As a result I am sooo nervous to fly, but reading this board has helped me out so much. I'm not as nervous about being able to fit in the rides or on the plane, and I seriously think this thread has helped saved my trip! LoL. Thank you so much everyone. Once again, I really appreciate it!! :-D

I used to buy cheap shoes from Payless, but I recently decided to just go for it and buy a decent pair of New Balance. I spend a good chunk of my day on my feet, and these shoes make my feet hurt so much less at the end of the day, even after a long day at a theme park. They're still tired, but they don't hurt as much as they did when I'd wear the cheaper Champion shoes from Payless. Those are good shoes, but not for the type of wear I put my shoes through.

Also, bring more than one pair of shoes. Not only will your feet be able to switch off and breathe (like if you bring one pair of gym shoes and one pair of comfy sandals), if you get caught in a sudden downpour, you'll have something to wear the next day and not have to deal with squishy shoes :flower3:

Hi everyone. Since I learned so much from this thread, I thought I would post something to help someone else. Lanacane is offering a free sample of their anti-chafing gel. I think that it may help some of us that have that problem.

http://www.lanacane.com/survey.asp

I ordered one for myself, and maybe someone else will find this helpful.

Thanks for the update! Did you ride Haunted Mansion? If so, did you use the turnstiles?

Enjoy the rest of your trip! :goodvibes

I did ride Haunted Mansion, and now that you mention it, it was the only turnstile I had a real problem with. There was a gate next to the turnstile, and I went in that way....no problem. There were a few other turnstiles that were tight, but nothing I couldn't squeeze through. I decided before I left that I wasn't going to feel embarrassed...I don't know those people who happen to stare, and don't really care what they think.

We are leaving for home tomorrow, and I thought I'd provide a final ride update. In addition to the rides listed above, I was able to enjoy the following:

Haunted Mansion (very tight turnstile)
Pirates of the Caribbean
Jungle Cruise
Peter Pan
Winnie the Pooh
Snow White's Scary Adventure
Tomorrowland Transit Authority
Tower of Terror
Rock n Rollercoaster
Toy Story Mania
Backlot Tour
Star Tours
Primeval Whirl
Expedition Everest
Kali River Rapids
Kilimanjaro Safaris

I've had an awesome time, and will definitely come back. The only downside was that my feet didn't want to keep up with what I wanted to do. Take care of your feet. I developed several bad blisters on day three, and the blister pain caused me to walk abnormally which aggravated a knee issue. The knee pain and swelling led to using an EVC for my last four days. I followed all the foot advice....moisture wicking socks, body glide, and Crocs, yet still had problems. I love my Crocs. I wear them almost everyday at home, but they weren't the right shoe for me for long distance walking. Use moleskin for known problem areas and hot spots that develop. Hope some of this helps others on their trips to WDW.

I can't begin to thank everyone who has contributed to this boad thread enough! I'm very Pooh sized (24/26) and tall (bit over 6') on top of it. Most of my family (9 of us total) are going to Disney World in October (66 days........not that I'm counting) and until I found this thread I've been worried SICK that I wouldn't fit on anything and that the whole trip would end up being horribly embarassing. Now I'm not worried at all!

I do a lot of bird hunting, which involves a lot of hiking, and a couple tips I can think of that may help others with blisters, which I'm very prone to, would be to buy a pair of hiking shoes with gore tex in them if you're prone to getting blisters (personally I like Merrels). The gore tex adds a waterproof layer, so your feet won't get wet in the rain or on water rides, which will keep things from rubbing and causing the friction that causes blisters. Another thing that helps if you are severely blister prone is to spray your feet with spray deodrant and then wear a pair of footie hose under your regular socks, the footie hose keep everything from rubbing (learned that trick from a friend in the military).

Also, if you sweat a lot, like me, then the individual serving gatoraid packets are a fantastic and easy thing to take with you, just carry a couple of the packs in your bag and add them to your water bottle. The Gatoraid replacing eclectrolites makes me feel LOADS better than just chugging water alone.

Okay, I'm Pooh sized. I'm 36 but will turn 37 in a couple of months while at WDW. I am 265 and five feet ten inches. I ride everything I want at WDW. Even while not at WDW I got to water parks, theme parks, zoos, and so on. My fear is I look old. My non Pooh size friends that smoke & drink look younger than me. I'm not a smoker and only drink on occassion but rarely more than one glass. I need to loose weight but I just can't get motivated to do so. I like the taste, smell, and textures of food. I not only get excited to go to WDW for the parks, pools, and so on but for the food. Food Porn is one of my favorite thngs to check out on Dis. So, any motivational suggestions would be appreciated. :)

This is the first thread that I have found great information! I am Pooh sized and will be traveling for the first time to WDW in Sept 2011. I wanted to loose 50 lbs to make sure I can ride and enjoy all that WDW has to offer. While loosing the 50 lbs is the right thing to do, I am most encouraged by all the ideas and experiences shared on this thread.

I look forward to contributing to the team and thanks again for all your help!

This may not work for you, but my motivation is the $540 plane ticket I have to buy on Southwest because of my size  And yet even though I'm trying to lose weight, I've gained a few pounds :headache:

Has anyone had any problems with the cars/booths at Sci-Fi Theater? My dh wanted to eat here for lunch one day so I made reservations but I'm a little worried about fitting in the car! I'm a size 22 and I fit fine in the car. My husband is a little bit larger than me and fits fine. They also have round picnic tables that have umbrellas. There is also the stretch tables that have chairs rather than booths. Enjoy!

Don't be afraid to fly! It'll be ok. I'm thinking you are worried about the seat belt issue. The regular seat belt on the plane is literally an inch to small for me. When I board the plane I ask for a seat belt extender and the flight attendant is always happy to oblige. I've flown Jet Blue, Delta, Virgin America and Southwest...all without any problems. Have a wonderful trip!!

I posted this question in the other Pooh sized thread but this one is more active so I'm hoping someone can answer about waterparks. I'm starting to get aprehensive.

I was looking at Allears At Large reports about people getting stuck in intertubes! Our local waterpark has a normal size and larger size intertubes that float around the lazy river and you just grab which one you want. Does Disney only have one size intertube plus the doubles? This is making me want to forget the waterparks if we won't be able to relax and float around the park which is what I'm looking most foward to bc I don't want to get stuck in one or worse not be able to get in one at all!

Anyone have experience and advice for the waterparks?

DisneyFirefly
08-08-2010, 03:11 PM
I don't remember how big the tubes were at the Disney water parks, but the ones at the Six Flags near me fit snugly around my waist. I don't get stuck. I honestly don't know about the Disney ones, though.

:thumbsup2 Love this thread. I am 5'4" and 226#, I wear a 42DD bra. This is my advise. If you want a small bag, I use the VB Mini hipster. Every now and then I remove it and place it on the back of a chair while out but it really doesn't rub my neck. Hipsters are great too and have a wider strap. I use bra liners EVERYDAY. I usually purchase them from Walter Drake on-line 3 for $9.99. As a wound care skin care nurse the best antifungal I have ever used on patients and myself has been Baza cream made by Sween. Now it is a cream and I would only use it if not going out in heat as a powder works best for that. The best powder I have found is Microguard powder from Sween. I order several at a time and shipping is free form the online store. DH is 5'7" at 270# with a precious pooh tummy. He loves WDW and never has problems with rides. He swears by his Crocs and loves them, and also his body glide.

I like wearing the Sport Savvy Atheletic wear from OVC. However, while a 2x on top, I am a XL on bottom. Which as you all know is frustrating. I recently purchased the Sport Savvy polo dresses in all three colors to try them and they fit great. They wash well and are made with a nice weight material that is very cool. So if you guys are my size and would like a cute dress, I have been very satisfied with them and purchased them in a 2X. I really like my swimsuits in the It Figures! line from QVC. Yep, it seems the suits get a little stetchy after getting wet but the coverage is there.

I get my underwire bras from Dillard's and so far have found a great fit in the Modern Movement line. There is a padding to them so they are great t-shirt bras, so I wear them under everything.

Thanks for posting all the great info, especially about shoes.

Or, if you're worried about asking flight attendants (I have the issue where the newer plane's belts will fit fine but the older plane's belts will either just barely not buckle or buckle but be extremely uncomfortable), you can get your own online.. This is the site (http://www.extend-its.com/orderbulk.htm/) I got mine from, since we normally fly AA I have model A and haven't had any issue with it on any plane (haven't flown Southwest so don't know about them- with their issues with larger passengers, I doubt we will now). It will roll up and fit into a pocket so that I can slip it in and out without an issue, so no one notices that I use one, which is my problem- being too embarrassed to ask. I fly a lot visiting family and for conferences, so it's been worth the investment just for having it...

Southwest belts.....I flew them in Jan and needed a belt extension but flew again in May and didn't need one then (same pooh size each time). I think they may be different sizes in different seats. They were very friendly about it. Also when we flew in May I bought DH an extra ticket/seat so that we would not make anybody else uncomfortable, at check in I asked and they allowed us to board first (there were no handicapp ppl), and on the way home we allowed the handicapp ppl on first then we boarded before regular boarding. DH found it less embarrassing asking for an extension when few ppl were on the plane yet.
On my Jan trip I did overhear the stewardess talking about a lg man taking up too much space:sad1:. Too bad others could hear their conversation.

Thanks everyone on this thread for easing my worry about being too Pooh sized to fit in rides and enjoy the trip with my family. The tips and reassurance has been great!

One thing though I was excited to learn about the womanwithin website and made a decent order through them for some "cruise/WDW" clothing a few weeks ago. I have had a horrible experience with them! I hadn't seen where anyone else has had this problem, so it's either bad luck on my part or well I don't know? When I first placed the order I knew 2 items were on backorder but were scheduled to be available a good month before we left on our cruise. One item showed instock (of course it was the perfect sundress I had been searching for this trip) and a week later when I went to the website to check on shipping it was showing backordered with no idea on a ship date! No notification had been sent to me saying this item went on backorder after I placed the order. I sent an email to their customer service and after 4 days with no reply I called the number. The customer service reps I spoke with might as well said sorry about your luck, and too bad for you for all of the help they were. Now today I get an email saying the items I knew were on backorder are backordered further, and the anticipated date being 5 days before I leave on my trip!! Pretty much I spent $200, still have nothing to wear on my cruise and the only items woman within has been able to send are the 2 pairs of underwear I ordered.

I'm half tempted to take a pic of myself wearing just the underwear and attach a note that says thanks the panties fit great, what about the other $185 I purchased in clothing to cover these bad boys up??????

Has anyone else had this experience? Hopefully I won't have just a couple pairs of comfy panties to wear on my trip.:scared1:

We are just about the same size...and I am a WOCN, wound care specialist also. I use body glide ALL the time when I go to WDW, even on my feet and toes and it stops the blisters from forming. What is a bra liner? I use all of your products also. I need a bra that doesn't rub under my arms...the underwires are a killer, but without it, well, you get the picture!

I know that there has been some discussion about which bags to bring.
I'm 5-1 and 260# ish.
I just found a GREAT bag at Walmart. it holds 2 water bottles (bpa free) and for three dollars I found one more to hook onto the bag. The belt easily fit around my stomach with room to spare. The zipper pocket is surprisingly large. We can easily carry our sunscreen bottle, bug spray an wallets in there with room left over! The back part that goes against your body is cushioned and mesh.

The best part? it was $9.88.

it's called the H20 Mojave Hydration Waistpack

It says it's not available online, but my local walmart had at least ten of them.

We leave next Wednesday for our first five day trip. I'll let you know how we do!

(btw, my hubby and I are both pooh-sized and the bag will fit him too )

My whole family (all 9 of us) bought the EXACT same pack for our upcoming Disney trip. We recently used them on a trip to the zoo with the kids and they work GREAT for us! The waist strap is fantastic - fits everyone from a 7 year old skinny kid to pooh sized me and it was so nice to have both hands free all the time and not have a strap digging into my neck :cool1:

Yes I just called for the 3rd time and was told the same thing. They weren't even aware of the items that were placed on a longer backorder! Said the emails go out before their systems are updated. Seriously????? Just a word of warning to anyone placing an order through woman within I wouldn't. You are better off in my experience to just pay full price through lane bryant or some other store and actually get the merchandise you pay for in a decent time frame. So far my one and only order through woman within has been a headache, poor customer service, poor internet updating, and all I have to show for it are two pairs of yes comfy but white granny panties for the bargain price of $120. :scared1: Now I get to go out and try and find summer cruise clothes when all of the stores in my area switched to fall and winter over a month ago. Yay.

Yay.

They are not supposed to charge your credit card until they actually SHIP your order. If they refuse to refund your money immediately and cancel your order you need to tell them you are going to contact your credit card company to do a chargeback. If they still won't give you the credit, follow thru with your credit card company to get your money back.

They haven't actually charged my card for the non shipped items. The problem is all of the stores in my area are now selling sweaters and coats. Hardly attire for a bahama cruise. Because of their poor management I have less than a month to decide if I want to risk waiting on the items I have already ordered, or do a mass hunt for something else.

I guess as long as I have my new clean panties to wear my grandma will be happy though. :yay:

I was looking at Allears At Large reports about people getting stuck in intertubes! Our local waterpark has a normal size and larger size intertubes that float around the lazy river and you just grab which one you want. Does Disney only have one size intertube plus the doubles?

Anyone have experience and advice for the waterparks?

I was at Typhoon Lagoon in May and had no problems with innertubes. I didn't put it around me (probably could have) but kind of just layed on it & had no problems. I had an awesome time at Typhoon Lagoon & won't hesitate to go back. There were all sorts of people bigger than me there & all were having fun. I wouldn't worry at all about going!

This thread is amazing. My BF and I leave for our trip in 66 days and this thread has helped immensely. I am 5' 275, and he is 5'10 2xlt. We just went shopping for him at Casual Male XL Outlet yesterday and got some great deals.

My current dilemma is shoes...currently I don't have any park worthy shoes. I saw someone post about the Ahnu Benicia II? I would love to try those. they look comfortable, and cute. What kinds of socks do people wear with those? or can I wear none at all? Do your feet sweat?

We will be staying at FW for 5 nights :)

Thanks everyone for your great tips!

Thank you so much...I was really starting to be anxious about the waterparks. I am hoping to get 20 more pounds off before we leave. I think I can, I think I can, I think I can!

I'm not sure if this should go here, but I am also in search of a good camp chair to use for my BF and I? The standard camp chairs dig into the backs of my thighs as I am short/poohsized. Any suggestions?

Greenepona, I have purchased really great Camp chairs at Costco, they are there brand of camp items. Sorry don't remember the brand and we have loaned them to friends who are on vacation. The chairs have a foot rest and even recline. I don't remember the price, purchased them last year. They work great for my 6'4' DH and I am very comfortable in them at 5"5".

We even took them to the hospital when I had surgery last year. Much more comfortable then the hospital guest chairs. My DH was much happier with them, even napped in them.

OK everyone, we need more ideas for us all.

I got ours at Walmart this year. They are made by Coleman and are oversized and hold up to 350lbs. I love them. They are comfortable and feel very sturdy.

I have a question, last September hubby and I were at the world for 8 days. First day in the parks I started having problem with my feet. Specifically the bottoms of them. Throughout the day as the heat got hotter, I guess my feet started to sweat and started rubbing in my sneakers and they started to really get sore. I had come prepared and stopped in the ladies room and pulled my shoes and socks off and put some foot powder and some moleskin where some really sore areas were and hoped it would help. Well it didn't. They just got worse and worse. The rubbing began to feel like a burning on the soles. It is weird, because I am pretty much on my feet for 6-8hrs per day with work and never had this problem. The last few times we went it didn't happen either. I was wondering if it could have been the different sneaker brand I bought coupled with the god awful heat and humidity? I have no idea, but I tried switching to my flip flops the next day and that didn't help. I am so worried about it happening again on future trips because it really made it bad for me. How come this doesn't seem to happen any other time? Does anyone else have this problem, and if so, what do you use? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

I use moisture wicking socks and always apply Bodyglide to the bottoms of my feet every morning before heading to the parks. It helps with the rubbing :thumbsup2.

Well, we are back from our trip and we did great on ALL the rides! Had a little trouble getting through some of the turnstyles, but overall I was really impressed at how comfortable we were! I couldn't do RNR at HS, but that is because I'm claustrophobic and panicked when the shoulder harness went over me.

The waist pack we bought from walmart worked great. my husband even carried it for awhile.

I will say that my husbands legs got really swollen and red. after three days we ended up in the urgent care clinic down the road from WDW. I think that three 10 hour days of pounding the pavement, sun and heat was just to much for him. My advice (if anyone wants it) is to take it slow, enjoy and take breaks often. It's not worth the pain (literally) and expense of having a medical issue. (He is now on an antibiotic, steroids and was on a diuretic).

Lots of pixie dust to those going and let us know how your trip goes!

I also found that using Body Glide on my feet works wonders. I use it on the soles, sides and between my toes and that has stopped the blisters. I have worn crocs with socks and also sneakers with socks. This is the only thing that worked for me.

I also have an issue with Roman's, and the other Woman Within etc...why on earth do they have regular normal size people modeling those darn clothes???? I want to know what someone my size will look like. What looks good on a skinny person isn't going to look good on me. I had to return 6 bags of clothes to those places this week. and the sizing is so odd. I wear a 2x or a 20/24 at Lane Bryant. Not with these other companies...even a 1X is like a tent! The pants are made for someone with extreme edema of the legs or something and they fall down. I am no slim person. I am 5'4" and 235 pounds. I am just disgusted. Don't fashion designers know that we like to look good too? When I am dead and gone, there will be ALL Pooh sized clothes with the obesity epidemic. I was ahead of my time, as usual!

One other thing, I had plantar fasciitis and I wear only New Balance sneakers. I used to wear Birkinstock, but it seemed it got worse with them. I recently bought wide Birkenstocks with a soft insole/cusioned and once I broke them in...wow, how comfortable. I bought 2 pairs on QVC, one was on 4 easy payments...I love that. Just a thought.

I got the Ahnu Benicia II several months ago. They have held up well for be in day to day walking. However, now they are starting to totally wear out already! I am not happy about this since they cost like $100. So I am not sure I will be wearing them to WDW. We still have three months left before our trip and I am not sure they shoes will hold up until then. I might just get a new pair of Reef sandals to wear instead. I wear just regular ankle socks with my Ahnu shoes though. It is mostly the inside of the shoes that are wearing out and making squeaking noises when I walk now.

Anyway, just wanted to update on those. They were really great for when I went to DL when the shoes were still really new, but now I am not so sure they will old up well for WDW. If I got another pair to wear there, they would be great. They seem to be awesome when they are new, but don't break in too well. Weird for shoes.

My husband and & have been off of meat & most animal products; we are beginning day 6. I'm not hungry but my digestive system is trying to adjust. We have no political agenda but trying it for purely health reasons. My husband read the book China Study and I'm reading it now. Very eye opening and confirms many things I have read/heard. Wish us luck!

Where has this thread been all my life?? Lol... Thats terrible that anyone would make nasty comments about your weight! Just awful! I am pooh sized (size 22/24,most around my middle)and going to the World in 3 weeks, and am so so so glad I found this thread!:goodvibes

My mom just gave me the China Study book and I am interested in reading it. I have been a vegetarian for about 16 months and would like to work towards becoming vegan.

We will be at Disney in December and as well as being Pooh Sized, I will be almost 6 months pregnant!!! :scared1: Slighty nervous about getting in rides with a big huge belly, but atleast I don't have to worry about any thrill rides. I don't think the baby would appreciate EE! lol

I was pretty close to being a vegetarian when I was pregnant w/ my kids. Smells of meat made me sick. But, my love of fast food came back after delivery. I never thought my husband would give up meat but he has done well. It's not too hard for me but I do love the convenience of fast food so that's my temptation. The China Study has been an awakening. It's made me want to be a vegetarian and strive to be a vegan. I'm hoping I will eventually be a smaller Pooh Size w/ cutting out meat. Congrats on being a vegetarian for 16 months and on the bundle of joy. There is so much to do at WDW you won't miss the big rides. Have a great time!

[QUOTE=M&MGirl1;37667692]I can't begin to thank everyone who has contributed to this boad thread enough!

We will be in Disney as a party of 9 also -at the same time (if I counted correctly!) Oct 11-18...where are you staying? We're at the FW Cabins, and I too am Pooh Sized :goodvibespooh:

Anyone know if Design a Tee store in Downtown Disney has larger pooh sizes?
I am 1x or 2x depending on design. And do they have Tigger designs?

Wonderful thread-will be trying the lanacane gel and looking for the vera bradley bag for our trip.

Sorry if this is a repeat - I scanned the thread, but I might have missed it.

Does anyone have experience flying with Air Tran and their seats?

I'm a 3x, so I'm a little concerned. I'll be on the aisle with my DD7 and DNiece24 (non-Poohsized) in the row with me.

How was your experience? Thanks!
