Are the rates for Car rentals always over $300 in mid to late December?

I was quoted at $300 for a compact car through National beginning August 23rd. Was able to get a 145 dollar (including taxes and fees) quote for a compact for the 16th/23rd using thrifty.

Can you ever get lower than that? I am a DC member
Any one have any suggestions?

Try other companies. National this year has been one of the worst for any discounts (and not just December); Dollar has been one of the better. Go to mousesavers.com and check its car rental section for possible codes you can use for discounts.

National has been horrible this year. I'm going to MCO in December, and I'm getting an outrageous quote from National. As a back up, I went to Dollar and used the ENTERTAIN code (available to anyone) and booked a full size for a week for 140.00 plus fees. You don't need to give a credit card number or much info, and can cancel without penalty. You might wanna give it a try.

I've found excellent rates in the last day through Payless, but your dates comes up as "no rates found." Also got good rates from L&M, but since posting the prices, have received several emails warning me away from this company due to refusals to honor quoted pricing. You may want to hit the Payless site in a day or two. I've used them several times and never had a problem worth mentioning. You get a 10% discount by going through this link:

I found that if you play the National website right, the difference between Dollar and National is only a few dollars. But Dollar does make it much easier than National to get the best rate.

I just booked Dollar for Thanksgiving week a full size car for base rate $126 with taxes and fees comes to 162.68 using the entertain code. Can anyone tell me about Dollar we always use national but this is cheaper. Any info would be appreciated
