Came across this article today about a new Paramout theme park in Spain.

PARAMOUNT PICTURES TO BUILD BIGGEST THEME PARK IN SPAIN IN MURCIA (http://www.theleader.info/article/22202/spain/costa-blanca/biggest-theme-park-in-spain-to-be-built-in-murcia/)

Paramount Pictures have chosen the region of Murcia for the construction of the biggest theme park in Spain, which aims to compete directly with Disneyland in Paris.

The project will have the added value of some cinematographic studios which will be the centre of all Paramount’s productions in Europe, according to the Murcian Councillor for Culture, Pedro Alberto Cruz.

Cruz has just got back from a trip to Dubai with a letter from the executive president of Paramount, Michael Bartok, who wants to start the ball rolling just as soon as it has been proven to be economically viable.

Cruz has said that the region of Murcia will become the “Leisure Centre of Spain, with a 2.5km˛ complex with 15,000 beds in hotels, creating 20,000 jobs, and attracting 3 million tourists to Spain. The amount of money to be invested will be decided next month, and private investors will be offered the possibility of putting their capital into the project.

The project is estimated to be completed within 2 years. It comes like a breath of fresh air for Spanish property agents, Spanish real estate companies, and other local businesses in the present financial climate.

Depending on what they decide to do with it, I'd be interested in going. Paramount hold the distribution rights (which in turn I guess means they can use them however they like) to a lot of great tv and films.
Though this could end up going like Universal and Port Adventura's partnership but since they're building from scratch, it could work.

Though does Spain really need any more tourists? Isn't it the most visited country in Europe?

id def be intrested in going here, we go to spain every year anyway so it would be nice to combine both theme park/beach holiday as my dds luv both.
And it would save me money too:lmao:

My dds are nearly 4+5 so i reckon in another 2/3 yrs they will be over their mickey mouse stage. Ive never been to portadventura despite the fact we have stayed in 2 hotel which had views of it!!! I said id go back in a few yrs when the girls are older and do it then.

I don't think anywhere would compete with Disney in the theme park sector.

hmmm...Very interesting. I live in the Madrid area. It will be interesting to see this develop. I don't know that anything can compare to Disney. I worked for the "mouse" at Disneyworld during college and now love bringing our children for vacation. We're very excited about seeing DLP for the first time on Mar. 28:cool1:

Interesting. :)

I don't think anything can compare to Disney either although I can appreciate that thrill-seekers might find rides at DLP a little tame compared to other parks. I must confess I've never been to Spain although I hope to go to Barcelona in the next few years. Maybe I'll give it a visit then. :goodvibes

The difference with a Disney Park is the magic. It's difficult to explain, but as soon as you step through the gates, your whole mindset changes. Personally, I become a small child who gets excited about the smallest details. As great as all the rides and attractions are, they only add to the experience.
I like to stay at Cheyenne and the moment I step out for breakfast, I'm in a town in the old west. It's the attention to detail and the general excitement of everybody around you. You get caught up in the magic and it doesn't let you go until you leave. That's why other parks aren't comparable in my opinion.

I don't think people on here will be changing their holidays but then we're not average visitor - we're all bit more obsessed than that! For average Joe that isn't so into Disney I think this will be a viable alternative, especially for those in Spain and Portugal. It might also make people choose a trip to Spain rather than DLP if they could fit both this and PortAventura into one holiday, though I have no idea how far apart they are.

I'm sure DLP will be taking notice and planning accordingly - competition is healthy, especially for us punters.

No there not close together at all murcia is in the south of spain and salou in the north.

Im not disney crazy tbh we only go to dlp coz the girls are huge playhouse disney fan and luv meeting the characters there, in a few yr they will be too old for it id imagine. I actually prefer gardaland in italy to dlp. The girls also luv going to spain for the pool/beach so we go on too diffrent types of holidays each yr to keep them happy. It would be great if we could take in both in 1 holiday then we would have more money to go on a holiday of my choice:lmao:

For those of you who actually luv disney im sure it wont be the same.

Interesting that Paramount would build a theme park in Spain after selling all their parks in the US a few years ago.

Can you tell that to my 8 and 13 year old please. Although to be fair they lost interest in the characters side of things (with the exception of the 8 year and Pluto) a long time ago.

However, they still insist on wanting to going back yearly. They aren't interested in UK based sites - such as Chessington. We went there and they've no interest in going back. DLP on the other hand...

Agree but my boys are 11 and 16 and still looking forward to the next Disney trip, we don't bother with the characters so much when it's just us, but secretly I think we all really love it when my niece and hopefully at some point my young nephew come along too.

Eldest has been to most of the UK themeparks, some we've done as a family, but they've all been once only trips, none of us have any interest in returning a second time.

I've a 3-month niece and 6-month grand-daughter. I can't wait until they are 3 or 4 and I'm able to have the DLP conversation with their parents! (not that their much of a conversation required, its more a planning exercise!.)
