call me crazy, but i've been on these boards at least a few hours every day trying to find out everything I can about DVC. I have read more positive things than negative so that's what pushed me to go ahead and call my guide.

HOWEVER, I just saw the 2011 points chart for VGC. That is mainly where we will be staying and with the increase of points it will be very difficult for us to even get a whole weeks worth of stays. I have no problem staying sun-thurs during off peak times. It looks like we will NEVER be staying on a friday or saturday and those seem to be the only days avail.

With the initial purchase of only 160 points I will definately have to add on for that large amount of money. I guess I am not sure on how the points allocation thing works. It looks like everything has gone up and nothing has gone down and I thought they said that the points will never change.

I have not sent in my paperwork yet...still waiting on the webcast to see if I can get a better deal.

This was the only thing I've wanted for a long time...and now that its in reach i'm not so sure...

Points for VGC for 2010 and 2011 are about the same...just shifted around between seasons and for size of room....points can't change just reallocate. (aka if 3000 points are given to a resort then that is all that is allowed period..they only can shift the points around). Overall the 2011 charts have taken away some points for weekends and added them to weekdays.

For 2011 you would be able to get a one week for the least two busy periods of time in a studio.

The thing that is great is you can bank and borrow. So if you only buy the 160 points for now you can always borrow the future year (160 + 160 = 320) now you can get a studio for a week at any time of the year or a 1 bedroom for the least two busy seasons.

If you can't go for a year or go less than planned you can bank your points and do a bigger trip the next year.

Overall, going on weekdays is a great way to conserve points!

Not sure how far you are from DL but I find with DVC (2.5 hours from WDW) I am now enjoying booking weekend getaways then full week stays.

Here's my two cents: if you want to buy I see two choices

1. buy about 300 points (that is what I have and it works well for us)

2. if more than 160 is pushing you financially than buy the 160 and do the borrowing method for a few years and then buy more points through resale which are usually cheaper or from Disney if they have a good deal and are available.

I received a DVD from the DVC preview I attended last week while we were at WDW. It talks about the points being locked the year you buy (paraphrased) imagine being able to brag to your friends 5 years, 10 years, 20 years from now, you are still being able to use the same point system you did when you bought in to DVC. So this part confuses me.

That basically means when you buy into a resort (VCG for the OP) that till the contract ends for that resort you will always be able to stay there with the points you bought there...the only changes made will be points shifting around the resort.

example: say it is choice season, 12 points in 2009 were needed for a 1 night in studio at a resort on a sun- thurs and 21 points were needed for same room on a fri-sat

now in 2010 14 points are needed for same room same season for a sun-thur and 19 points for a fri-sat

so that means that 2 points added to sun-thur and 2 points subtracted from fri-sat

all in all if the op buys into VGC he/she will easily be able to stay there and all other resorts, in say 20 years when they are building a new one it may be hard for a vgc to get as many nights at that new one since more points may know be needed for the hotel and the base minimum to buy from disney for a new member may be higher.

Not to beat a dead horse, but your sentiments were expressed at nauseum starting LAST year with the 2010 points charts. The 2011 points charts is just a continuation of some re- org by DVC. Yes it has hurt more than not. Will it end, well that's what most want to know. The only suggestion is to buy way more many points than you need and you'll have a buffer for further points erosions in the future.

I think they usually say that the minimum 160 point purchase is enough for a family for a week, or something like that. I'm guessing that's still true -- it never meant any week, any resort, any room size.

The real point is that you won't be experiencing the price increases that will occur at the resorts over those time frames. It doesn't necessarily mean that you will always be able to stay the exact same calendar dates for the same number of points, because the seasons (and pts requirements) do change -- for example, Easter/spring break peak season is not always the same dates on the calendar every year.

And as has happened in the past, they can reallocate points within the resort, lowering or increasing the # of points needed for weekdays, weekends, etc. But overall -- the total number of points for the resort cannot change.

This is how the guide explained it to me as when when I did a walk-through in July. I now understand reallocation, but I don't like the way this was talked around.

This was the only thing I've wanted for a long time...and now that its in reach i'm not so sure...If you were looking at an entire week there really aren't much changes. The have moved to curtain much of the S-F type stays which I think is in the best interest of the system.
