Can I give it to someone here? I've heard people were able to use pins even though they weren't in their own name.

Don't know where you have been hearing that, because PIN (Personal Identification Number) codes are supposed to be used only by those whose name is on the offer. In fact, the DIS does not allow actual PIN code numbers to be posted.
And they do check - I know I received one once via postcard that had my friend's name and my address on it, and they wouldn't let me use it because it wasn't in my name.

We haven't had luck using PINs unless your info *exactly* matches what's in their computers. For instance:
-- I planned a girls weekend and did all the ressies for the group. Later got a PIN card with my aunt's name at my address. Could not use it.
-- For another trip my mother, a Florida resident, was the planner. Later, my BIL received an offer at my mom's address for Florida residents only. They wouldn't let EITHER of them claim the offer: BIL couldn't show proof of Florida residency. Mom wasn't named on the card.
It's nice of you to want to share, though! :)

There is a post over on the "codes and rates" board and someone mentioned being able to use a code addressed to someone else. A friend of mine also claims to have used a pin code addressed to her mother.
I figure if I'm not going to use it....someone else should. I guess I fail to see why this is a "no no". :confused3
I often get coupons in the mail... addressed to me.... but I'll give them to my MIL or anyone else who can use them. Infact, I got a 20% off coupon code in my email from Kohls. The coupon was good for 2 days. So I used the coupon and the cashier gave it back to me. I then handed it to the person in line behind me. (Always makes me feel good to make someone else happy)
So if Disney is applying these pins (as some people claim).... then why should the DISboards oppose it? really.... I'm not trying to be sassy.... I'm just wondering.

I'm not sure how the disney gods determine who gets a elusive pin.

I requested a planning DVD. Didn't really need, one, just hoping for a PIN. I got a pin on email about 3 weeks later. Same thing happened 3 years ago. I say, just order the planning dvd, even if you don't need one and see what happens. My PIN this year was for 20/30/40 off, which is better than free dining if you use the 40 off at a Deluxe. We are going in November, and staying at BC for 40% instead of staying off property.

Probably because it is a rule with Disney that PIN offers may only be used by the recipient. The offer may be posted, but the actual coded number may not be.

I agree. As an AP holder I go to WDW several times a year. Every year I order the customized maps, planninng DVD, DVC DVD, and the cruise one, plus I have my email and address on every Disney site I can find and I have yet to get a PIN Code.:rotfl: On the other hand, my mom who has only ever gone when I've taken her got one last year. She doesn't even have an email address, never orders anything, and has never booked a trip. She's only ever been a guest in my room.:confused3 When I called to see if I could use her PIN, since she'd only ever been with me, I was told no. It was her PIN and she had to be going in order for us to use it. Now later she did change her mind and decide to go, so we were eligible for it.

My guess is because Disneys OFFICIAL policy is -if it isn't in your name you can't use it.
And the DIS boards will not go around Disney policy.Maybe some people have had luck using codes not in their name , MOST have not.I got a code last year in the name of a friend who once traveled to disney under my ressie with me.She had passed away ,never lived at my residence. all the info as far as address etc was MY info(except the name) and disney Would NOT allow me to use it.I tried calling different Cms, spoke with management and the answer was "NO"

DIsney doesn't divulge the selection process of who gets and who doesn't.To increase your chances, sign up at disney.com for emails, a vacation dvd, and price out a trip or 2.That sometimes has been known to generate one.Up until this past year I had tried all of these things and NEVER got one. This year I started getting them all the time.My neighbor who was at disney once 10 yrs ago gets them all the time, My SIL who is a DVC owner and goes to disney every few months gets them all the time. There are posters who go often, hardly ever and anything in between and get them all the time.I average 1-2 trips per year( more when I lived down there) and like I said never got one till this past year.Do you see how random?
