I was thinking maybe we could start a little support group for those of us that are trying to lose 10 lbs or less. It is much different to try to lose various amounts of weight, and I thought this would be a great way to exchange ideas, celebrations, and frustrations...

Well.... I could definitely use the support! I've been struggling with these last 10 pounds for MONTHS now and I am starting to lose my motivation and that SCARES me! I've started a new circuit training class in the hopes that it will shake things up a bit and get those pounds off!............P

I think circuit training is a great idea! Really mixes up the cardio. I've also found that the stairmaster is quite the intense workout, as well. Once you've mastered that you can move on to the actual rotating stairs machine. I have friends, who can run marathons and still can't do that!

ohMom - welcome! The last 10 lbs are always the hardest and I think we all bounce back and forth. I feel like I always tend to let myself go during the fall/winter month, this year especially for myself, as I am now in a relationship. Now it's the big push before spring break (my BF and I are going to FL), my BFFs wedding in June, and the summer in general. Bikini ready is something that my body is not! Do you try exercise and diet or just 1?

i'm an exerciser...i'm a powerwalker during the nicer months (weather wise) and just signed up for May 16 half-marathon. those are my way of commiting, i'll just follow the schedule up to the event. during the winter I did BL on the Wii; and I've been trying to incorporate some yoga/pilates for that 'yoga body' look.

my shortcoming is eating! we like to eat and i'm a sugar addict. I've tried planned snacks, no snacks, light versions of snacks....i just have not been able to keep the plan long enough to make it routine. i know it takes 2 weeks to form a habit. there is always 'something' going on that breaks up my 2 weeks. excuses, huh

Can I play? I've got about 4 to 5 pounds to lose and I really need some accountability! They say weight loss is made in the kitchen and that is my downfall. I love to eat and it seems like with my training right now (sprint triathlon in May) I am hungry all the time. Especially on swimming days. I had a major binge on Stacy's cinnamon sugar pita chips yesterday and I am so mad at myself right now!

I've been meaning to post in one of these threads for a long time now. I have actually 10-20 I should lose. My family is vegetarian, so we are very equipped with all of the grains and vegetables and lentils, fruits, etc. But my weakness (and that is an understatement) is sweets. I bake at home all the time; I even worked in a gourmet bakery for some time ... and I have trouble with portion control of sweets. Some people have told me to cut out the sweets except for once a week, but I can't! I have found it much easier to eat a small amount everyday to be satisfied, instead of denying myself. I just tell myself that the sweets aren't running away anywhere ... what I don't eat today will still be there tomorrow! I don't need to have it all in one day.

The other problem is exercise. I can take walks now that the weather's good. We have a Gazelle machine in our basement, and I can listen to my music or watch TV/DVR'd shows, but it's the thought of exercising and the difficulty of losing weight that makes it difficult to even get on the machine. I also use Wii Fit, which I love.

Sorry for the long post, but I had a lot of things to say and I know this is the place to do it. :grouphug:

I'd like to join! I would like to lose 10 pounds to get back to pre-baby weight. Of course, "baby" is now 5 and just registered for kindergarten!

I have always exercised, but I eat too much. I am trying to add some new things to my exercise routine (I am on week eight of a Couch to 5K running plan and I have recently added Yoga and Pilates to the mix). If I can control my portion sizes, I will lose the weight. I also need to make healthier choices (birthday cake shouldn't be considered dinner).

I look forward to having some accountability here! Thanks!

I would like to join too. I just finished the second week of the Couch to 5K program just walking. Trying to build up my cardio and lose 8 pounds. We are planning a hiking trip to Rocky Mountain in June and a Europe Cruise on the Magic in July. Living in Florida, weather is traditionally not a problem to get out and walk, but this winter has been COLD by southern standards. I am also lifting light weights twice a week. Still not much progress...

Looking forward to learning new tips and ideas from everyone.

I'm down to my last few pounds. The goal weight listed on my ticker is 144, but I'm considering going a little lower if I can. I'm pretty happy where I am, but I would be thrilled to lose some more.

ME TOO! and MickeyMom!! see we are all cut from the same cloth! i rationalized the orange cupcakes are fine for breakfast b/c they have orange juice in them. yesterday for dinner i had peanuts/m&m's. i am TERRIBLE! how shall we all approach this! i need at least one sweet a day too! i can't make pan of no-fudge b/c i'll eat it within 2-3 days. i know i could freeze portions but i just don't!

ghoulishgirl -- WOW! triathlon! the swimming would kill me!!

i did walk my long walk for this week -- 6 miles --- now to stay in control for rest of the day!! no more peanuts/m&m's. what should I do with them? also, have leftover homemade frosting from party last weekend, i need to dump it down the drain. it's really good too. but i am the only one eating it. ok -- i'm going to go do that right now!

Yes! I know just how this is. Sweets are so tempting and wonderful, but how can you eat just a morsel?! Like, just now, I had an ice cream sundae (1/2 fat chocolate ice cream, lite whipped cream, cherries, caramel and fudge sauce, honey and Spanish peanuts). Not that that's bad as an occasional tread, but I had also had a sugary cereal at breakfast, a cookie and a few sips of regular Jones Soda (and since I am a pop addict I drink my diet everyday also) ... so I told myself the ice cream was too much, but I did it anyway!

One of my FAVORITE little snacks is peanuts/chocolate chips, similar to your combination with the candy. And ever since I bought that dang brownie pan with the dividers in it I have been baking too much!

I made chocolate chip/oatmeal cookies last week and wanted to freeze them. Thanks for the reminder.

I do keep in mind a health goal and slowly work toward it. There's this girl on my soap opera who was prancing around the latest episodes in a bikini that wouldn't even cover an ant; I draw the line at chocolate covered ants. Nuts and fruit in chocolate is one thing ... antennae is another! :scared1:

(They're real! People actually eat them!)

As is par for the course, I went swimming this morning and was ravenous all day. My mom and I went to Round Table pizza lunch buffet which was amazing and I ate WAY TOO MUCH! I haven't had a real piece of pizza in ages, only crummy frozen diet ones, so I think I went a little crazy. I also had salad, but you know the salad bar isn't really healthy!
Going to a card making party tomorrow and I know there is going to be cake. I'm going to get a food jounal, I need to do something different because what I am doing now just isn't working.

I actually found a great replalcement for pizza if you need one. My weakness is salty foods, so I've tried to find healthy alternates. This is for thin crust, if you like thin crust pizza:

Preheat oven to about 400.
Place a whole wheat wrap (I like brown rice ones from Trader Joes b/c I feel like they get extra crispy) on a cookie sheet and bake for 6-7min or until slightly golden brown.
Add some pizza sauce on top, some low fat mozz, and red pepper flakes (if you like spicy food)
Cook in oven for another 3 min or until the cheese melts.

It's soooo delicious! I made it for my BF last week and even he loved it (and asked for the recpie)

Good Morning,

My scale displayed the exact same number as last week. I guess that is better than a bigger number coming up. Starting the third week of C25K tonight. I bought a pedometer to keep track of my time and distance walking. Fun to check at the end of the day. I went ahead and ordered my new swimsuit for inspiration. Ready for Summer!

I'd like to join!! I'm new to the WISH board but not new to DIS. I mostly hang out on the Photography board and before that the budget board.

I just ran my first 8K this past weekend!! I had never run 5 miles without stopping in my life and my goal was to get under an hour and I ran it in 53:18!! I was SO excited.

Then we celebrated with a bunch of beer and a cookout :headache::headache: So here I am on Monday again up on the scale. Grr. I'd like to lose ~10lbs and I fluctuate a lot (4-5 lbs within a week's time!) so I'd like to move my fluctuations down. I've been battling with these last 10 lbs for about two years now (going up and down).

And stretch goal is possibly to do the Princess Half Marathon in Disney next March. I'd absolutely love to say I did a half marathon (after not being able to even run a mile a few years ago) and of course doing it at Disney would be icing on the cake!

Goal is to eat healthy this week but have a night out with coworkers on Wednesday and a birthday party out of town on Saturday. Here's to being good!

:welcome: Karen! we seem to have the same struggles and goal! you can most definately complete a 1/2 marathon!

I am home from our quick trip to FL, and where is everyone? i refuse to ditch this group, I really need a (smaller than BL) thread for my accountability! I have 10 lbs to lose before May 16 and sooner!

i ate wwaaayyyy too much in the 3 days I was gone, kept telling myself it was my 'last hurrah' before buckling down at home. now i am home and trying to give myself the pep talk...

I leave in 2 weeks for FL and I am also having a hard time sticking to my program. I try to go to the gym 5 days a week averaging about an 1hr of cardio on the eliptical each time, along with some weight training, bike, and stairmaster. I also am a HUGE FAN of the ab slide to tone up those problem areas. However with the current education situation in NJ, as a teacher I have been called into many afterschool meetings to discuss the current situation and have upped my tutoring hours to try to compensate for a pay cut I may be forced to take next year. This had made my energy and motivation level drop, as well as my free time! I generally eat pretty well and maybe have 1 or 2 "no no" items a week, but I feel I need to begin to restrict that as well beginning on Monday for my final push. As a last ditch effort to look goo din my bikini I have sold out and begun tanning, b/c let's face it, tan skin doesn't look as blobby as pale skin! Sigh.

 My friends and I always say "tan fat looks better than pale fat." :lmao: I totally know the feeling. I tanned like crazy last year because I was in a wedding and had just started dating this *dreamy* guy (who I'm still with ) and felt really self conscious about getting in a bikini around him! Ha. I'm trying to hold back this year for the real sun. I know how bad it is for you and how much I love it! Argh.

This week went pretty well for me... legs were a little sore from the 8K but I worked out everyday but Wednesday (had a work outing).

Small triumphs for the week include:
-work dinner out was at an Italian restaurant and all 10 people got pizza or pasta and I had grilled chicken w/ spinach and broccoli :thumbsup2
- went out with a friend to Panera last night and got whole grain bread, and had a salad + soup for dinner (and added up the calories on the website before I went!)
- substituted a few tsp of flax meal instead of my normal natural pb in my morning oatmeal everyday this week.
- completing my 3 mile run on the treadmill yesterday even though I wanted to die

Failures include:
- 4 beers at the work outing.. NOT light :headache:

We're going away to a party out of town on Saturday, and meeting friends for lunch on Sunday. I NEED to be good. I've realized my weekends are KILLING me.

Btw- Panera already has calories up on their menu in the restaurant!

i know it girls...........weekends are my total killer too

unfortunately I didn't go to WDW....but no complaints. I went to panhandle to celebrated my BIL's retirement from 27 years in the Air Force

tomorrow i need to walk 7 miles and it has snowed here! most of it melted away today, but i'm not hopeful that walking outside will be an option as the temp are to dip below freezing again tonight. and i don't want to put it off much later than 9:30 or so.

Karen -- you had some great triumphs this week! i like that post -- the triumphs vs failures.

pixie -- sounds like a lot of negatives pulling you down, and rightfully so! i'm glad you have some time off ahead! your workout routine is amazing! and you are right, my ohio-pasty-white legs stood out like a sore thumb :teeth:

This weekend was a real foodie for me too. We went to visit the in-laws near Tampa, Florida, and food is the main entertainment. Cake, french toast, shepard's pie, shrimp, etc. The shrimp were fresh catch off the docks here in St. Augustine and I boiled them. Awesome!!! I did use cocktail instead of tarter sauce and I skipped all the donuts.

I got to wear shorts for the first time for four hours on Saturday:scared1: This winter has been cold and wet, it is raining now and we have the heat on again:scared1: Don't worry, must of us Floridians look pretty white right now too...

No walking today because of the rain, but I did lift weights.

I would like to join too. I've been doing really well with exercise for about 2 or 3 months now since we bought a treadmill. I've been run/walking on the treadmill 3 days a week and doing Jillian Michaels DVDs 2 or 3 days a week. I had hoped that would be enough for me. But now I know I'm building muscles but can't see them because there is a layer of fat around my middle. I've have a horrible diet. I eat whatever I'm craving and whatever is handy when I'm in a hurry. That includes cookies for breakfast. It's definitely time to make a change, if I'm going to keep busting my butt working out, I want to get my diet in check so that I can see the results. I also want to feel great and full of energy to keep up with my 3 boys.

I am checking in to say that I failed last week, and I am owning up to the fact that this week will be a failure as well. Friends are taking me out to lunch on Tuesday, and I am going out-of-town Fri-Mon (just me and hubby--the grandparents are holding down the fort). There's no way I will diet while on vacation, so I am not going to set myself up to be disappointed in myself.

I will formally begin working on my 10 pounds on April 5th. This will give me seven weeks before I go to the beach--that will be HUGE motivation!

I hope everyone has a great week! Shed lots of pounds. I will be back in the game next Monday!

I've set my goal at 118. I'd love to think there's a chance of me getting back to 113, but I'm letting that go. So I need to drop 7 lbs. Let's see if I can make that happen by June 12th (my best friend's wedding). I would even take a super toned 120!

You live in St Augustine... isn't that close to Amelia Island?? I'm going there for a wedding in early June (part of the reason I'm pushing to lose the extra few lbs). It's going to be at the Ritz there, it looks like it's supposed to be a beautiful place!

Had buffalo fingers, onion strips, and conch fritters this week end ooopps! O yea and the sangria and dollar beers....sigh. Don't worry Scuba, you weren't the only one who went weak! However I did do 45 min on the eliptical, 20 min on the bike, and lifted weights today.

Looks like it wasn't the best weekend for most of us! I was good until around 7pm on Saturday. DBF and I got up early on Saturday and did a Body Combat class at the gym, had a healthy lunch and then went to the party. LOTS of beer and lots of munchies- chips, dips, etc (there was nothing healthy out! I couldnt believe it). Then in the am we had sausage egg and cheese sandwiches and went out to an italian place with friends for lunch. I got pasta which wasn't a good move but had still been feeling bad. That was about all I ate yesterday though. Redlight~ yeah, for sure drinking and dieting don't mix!!!

I'm back on the wagon this morning- had oatmeal w/ flax meal and raisins, and am having a salad and a yogurt for lunch. I need to get back to tracking on sparkpeople again. Plan for tonight is to run 3 miles and do something else- prob the ellipitical or bike! Wednesday is looking like it might be nice to run outside so I'll prob try to get in another run then- I'm doing my first 5K on Saturday :) Ok I've done an 8K but never a 5K before! I think I'm going to set my goal at 32min (to match my 8K pace from two weekends ago).

Hi! Jumping in as well. I am 9 pounds away from goal and have been here for AGES. Ugh! I am very, very fit and active. Just completed the Princess Half Marathon a couple of weeks ago and am doing another Half shortly. So exercise isn't the problem.

Actually I have little idea as to WHAT the problem is. I eat REALLY well. Organic, vegetarian, etc. And I watch my calories (or WW points)--count and track everything and only allow a splurge day once every two weeks. And even those aren't huge. And like I said, I work out 6 out of 7 days per week. So honestly, I don't know what else I can do but there is CLEARLY about 10 pounds of extra chub that should not be there.

And at 5'2" well, 9 or 10 pounds is pretty noticeable.

So maybe others have great ideas for taking off the last few pounds--because I admit it, I am stumped!

We leave for DL in California on May 7th and I would love to be at goal by then. Of course, that is 5 weeks. 2 pounds per week is considered healthy weight loss, but even with doing everything right, I rarely see a week with a loss like that.

KarenAylwood
03-29-2010, 01:01 PM
5'4'' so on the edge of the "short" category. I've been hovering around 135lbs and yea I'd say 125 is a goal but I don't know how possible that is. Maybe if I do really get more strict about food and running it can. I seem to bounce up and down a LOT throughout the week. On Friday I was 135.2, on Monday I'm now 139.2  but by tomorrow I'll prob be 137 or so, and by the end of the week at 135. Then hop up again on Monday. The lowest number I've seen on the scale in recent weeks was 133.8. If I could hover between 125 and 130 I'd be ecstatic.

I work out 5-6 days a week, min of 60 min each time (anything from Body Pump, to turbo kick, spinning, running, elliptical, etc) so I do a good mix of cadio and strength. The strength has been recent and I think that may have stalled my drop in number on the scale as well.

I did hit 127 about two years ago but I was working shift and barely eating while still working out a ton (upwards of 2 hrs a day). I was also in a really bad place in my life mentally so I think that contributed. I want to be a HEALTHY 127 again :)

3DisneyKids~ Did you like the Princess Half?? That's my goal for this year- to work up to that! princess:

I am short! 5'0". I weight 112. I would like to be around 105 that's when my pants fit well. I would also just like to eat more nutritious foods to feel better and stronger. I am also trying to kick the soda habit and drink more water. I usually have about one bottle of water a day while I am working out and that is it. The rest is soda. I have switched to diet soda, but now I'm getting more concerned about how bad all of that artificial sweetener and caffeine are for me.
I'm about to have mac n cheese for lunch just because I don't have any healthy options in the house and it needs to be eaten. Then I'm going to hit the treadmill while my little guy naps.

:welcome: to our newest friends!

i must say i feel like an amazon woman now...at 5'4" and a hefty 148! my goal is just under 140, so 10 lbs, but i fluctuate too. so my goal would be to see 138-141 every time i stepped on the scale.

i did succeed getting my 7 milers done on the TM on sat a.m.; watched Big Daddy to pass the time. I did 4 miles on the TM this morning and promptly made a dr appt as I sat and iced my shins afterwards. my scoliosis has kinked up my lower back something good as well. actually planning on scheduling a massage for later in the week. this week is a recovery week so my long walk is only 4 miles.

foodwise over the weekend -- had pizza and beer for late lunch on sat and yesterday caved pretty much. i scrapbooked all day and have a snack box in my corner, well of course i put my favorites in there and found myself eating hershey kisses and carmel cremes more often than i'd like to admit. i like the idea of a snack box but i'm no good at limiting myself to one treat per day. ugh

i did step on the scale sat morning and was appalled to see 152! that means i have more like 15 lbs to lose....double ugh

I totally understand about the fluctuating. I fluctuate between 135 and 140 and I would like to fluctuate between 128 and 132. I know I will never be a set number, since it changes everyday, but I want my low end right now to be my high end!!!

i did step on the scale sat morning and was appalled to see 152! that means i have more like 15 lbs to lose....double ugh

That's from the caving like I did :) I was up 4lbs this morning and DBF was up 6lbs!! AHH! Those stupid weekends. I have a physical coming up in June too so I need to push this a little harder... but I can't stay away from the booze :drinking1

I am a fluctuator as well. I'd like to wake up in the mornings and be 118, realizing that by the time I go to bed I'll be 120 (I just won't get on the scale and look!). It doesn't help that I have suffered from anorexia for many years (while I'm not currently having issues, for me dieting is a quick hop step and a jump to my illness, which makes life even more difficult)

You live in St Augustine... isn't that close to Amelia Island?? I'm going there for a wedding in early June (part of the reason I'm pushing to lose the extra few lbs). It's going to be at the Ritz there, it looks like it's supposed to be a beautiful place!

St. Augustine is about 1 1/2 hours south of Amelia Island. The Ritz is suppose to be awesome. I have never stayed there, but we have friends that do every year. Amelia Island is very pretty and the beaches are great. Fort Clinch is fun to visit if you are into history. Fernandina Beach is a cute little town to visit also. I think you will have a wonderful time:cool1:

Someone mentioned Easter Candy:yay:Love the Robin Eggs and the chocolate eggs...Not much of a Peep fan.

Happy to say even with all the deluxe eating this weekend, the scale was kind with a pound lighter:yay:

Count me in as someone who had a bad weekend. My boss took me to lunch on Friday for our 12 year anniversary and it kinda snowballed from there. I'm back on track today with my calories and 1650ish yards this morning in the pool.

Came in at 1291 calories on sparkpeople yesterday, and ran 4 miles (w/ 0.5 miles worth of warm up/cool down) so I was pretty psyched! Scale is down almost 2 lbs from yesterday so I know a lot of the weekend was added water weight. 137.4... not good but not bad.

Yesterday I ordered the Garmin 305... I'm insanely excited to get it!! I'm running outside Thurs and Sat but should have the garmin by next week. We're going to have some beautiful weather coming up!

Scuba~ yea we're staying in Fernandina Beach (the Ritz is too expensive for me! even the wedding rate was $350/night with a min of 2 nights!). I'm pretty excited! We're driving over to Destin after that for a week (DBF and I). Very excited :)

Hi everyone!

I would love to join! I actually have 15 pounds to lose to be at my goal of 132, which is what I was when I got married 9 years ago. Since January I have lost 9 pounds, but still have that 15 to go. Right now I am recovering from surgery I had 2 weeks ago, and I just did my first workout back on my elliptical yesterday - it kicked my butt! But I was not sore and my doc said it was okay for me to start exercising again.

My weight fluctuates horribly - just last weekend I weighted 144 on Friday morning and 149 on Monday morning - and I didn't think I ate that bad! It was my son's birthday and we did eat out once and have cake, but I didn't have 16,000 calories in cake in 2 days!!! I've since lost 2 of those pounds. My weight also fluctuate very seasonally - almost every year I go through the same pattern - in January I start a diet and lose weight - by May I'm doing well and close to where I want to be. Then summer comes and we camp A LOT with friends of ours, which entails a lot of eating, snacking, a few drinks around the campfire at night chatting and more snacking, and by August/Sept I've gained the weight back. This sequence has happened the last 4 years, except last year I never lost the weight in spring, so over summer I packed on even more and by December I was the heaviest I've been.

So this year I am determined to do things differenly! I have our First Disney vacation in August and I really want to be able to enjoy myself and not be worried about my weight and worry that I look bad in the pictures.

So my plan has been to exercise on my elliptical 30 minutes (I would like to increase to 45 minutes) a day for 5 days a week. Now that our snow has melted I am planning to start walking/maybe jogging on the 3 mile route I do. On days I can't walk due to weather I'll do my elliptical. I also need to try to start some strength training - I do have the Wii Active (but not a Wii Fit) and I need to start a program on there again - I did it for a about a month but then I quit.

My plan for food has been to count all calories and try to stay at 1200 calories a day. Before my surgery I was doing 1200 a day and losing about a pound a week. I also want to encorporate more fruit and veggies, which I have been doing pretty well on. My weakness is candy/chocolate/desserts. I am dreading easter and the candy!

So, tonight I will go and take a walk, attempt to jog parts of it (I am NOT a runner, I really like to walk instead, I have bad shins) but I want to try again. I keep telling myself "DON'T QUIT" - I have a tendenacy to get discouraged quickly and give up if I don't see results. It'll be a slow process and I have to remind myself of that. It's taken me 3 months to lose just 9 pounds (with 3 weeks off due to the surgery) but I've come this far and if I've done that 9 I can do 15 more!

we are like twin sisters! :goodvibes i second all those points -- we can and WILL succeed together! on your shins -- are you new to walking, or have you been a runner in the past? i have some thoughts but don't want to tell you things you already know

I am just home from Dr appt...end result Physical Therapy. Actually i'm excited, i have done PT for my shins before and it helps alot; also i have a muscle that spasming in my lower back and i'm totally ready for it to be done. it is affecting my exercising which affects my motivation. hard to get motivated to walk on treadmill when shins scream for the first 2 miles and then lower back kills the rest of the day. i'm a mess :rotfl:

MommyMcQueen, I highly recommend following the Couch to 5K plan to start running. Maybe your shins have hurt in the past because you tried to do too much too fast. The plan is awesome for getting started and going at a slow pace. There is a thread on the WISH boards too for folks that are doing the program.

Hi! Good to know I'm not alone in all those things! No, I have never been a runner, I do usually walk a lot (seasonally) usually 3 miles a day. I've been a walker for several years. Whenever I try to jog or run, my shins get very sore - I really don't know anything on how to help it, I come home and ice them if they are really bad. Usually if I jog the first mile of my route, then my skins are KILLING ME the entire rest of the walk, to the point I can't run at all, and walking is even tough. So I try to start out walking, then jog small stretches until I feel them getting tight. I'll stop and stretch a bit, then keep walking. They get a very tight feeling, and I usually stop and walk before it gets too painful. If I ice them after I get back they don't usually hurt much at all, but if I don't ice then they're sore a couple of days, hard to exercise the next day. I usually walk a couple weeks before I start even trying to jog, but I'm looking to jumpstart my exercise this year so I want to try to start jogging a little earlier. So today will be my first day out, since it is finally warm enough. I may just walk it today, depends on how I feel once out there.

Sorry to hear you've been suffering with shins and back issues. It sure makes exercising hard! Hopefully th PT will help! If you have any tips or advice I'd love to hear it!! Thanks!

MommyMcQueen - Sounds like you suffer from shin splints. They might be caused by:

* Irritated and swollen muscles, often caused by overuse.
* Stress fractures, which are tiny, hairline breaks in the lower leg bones.
* Overpronation or ''flat feet" -- when the impact of a step causes the arch of your foot to collapse, stretching the muscles and tendons.

Basically you need to slowly work your way into an excerise routine. The C25K is a great way to acclimate your body to running. Too much impact in the beginning can result in shin splints. Good luck and Welcome!

I've never been to Destin before!! We're going the second week of June - the wedding is on the 6th and we drive out on the 7th. So I'm hoping for awesome weather :cloud9:

DBF's parents own a condo there so he's been a few times but hasn't been in years. His parents go a few times a year to a) relax and b) work on the place (updating things, putting in new stuff, etc). From the pics it looks gorgeous, I can't wait. And you can't beat a free place to stay! :thumbsup2

Not working out today, but doing well on eating for the day. We're going to meet at a running store on our way home from work to both get new running shoes. I'm pretty excited- I haven't gotten new ones in a while and I need something a little better than what I have. They also are supposed to have these little running skirts that look cute. Anyone try them before? They're from Skirt Sports. I just spent $160 on a garmin and now buying new shoes?? :rotfl: At least it's a cheaper hobby than photography :rolleyes1

Tomorrow is Body Pump and then Thursday is running OUTSIDE in 80 DEGREES!!! I seriously can't wait for it to feel like spring/summer again.

where are you getting your shoes? make sure you go where the workers know what they are doing, like a fleet feet. I LOVE running skirts...that's all I run in...but I get mine at www.runningskirts.com. I was actually going to blog about them again this afternoon! I am obsessed.

Destin is my favorite beach. went every summer growing up. make sure you eat at the back porch. YUMMY. go to the commons outdoor mall. fabulous. You will love it!

I was hoping the skirts wouldn't make my thighs look so ginormous :lmao: I run in capri pants all the time because my thighs rub together  so I was hoping these skirts would be a good alternative. I've never tried them on before tho so I don't know how ridiculous they'll look on me! I also need something that won't ride up on my thighs. I'm glad to hear you like them! If I start running in warm weather I definitely need something other than what I have now.

We're going to Running Etc (there's one Fleet Feet in VA, but it's like 4 hrs from here). I went there a few years ago when I tried to get into running- but I went too fast, hurt my hips and knees and just gave up. Recently I've gotten into it much much slower and haven't had a problem! This is the description on their website:

" Running Etc. is the store to visit for all your running needs. If you are looking for guidance to find the perfect running shoe to make your feet happy, we offer video/treadmill gait analysis and a comprehensive selection of footwear models, sizes and widths. We have more running apparel and accessories than anyone in the region. "

They watched me run and measured my arch and whatnot last time, and I LOVED the shoes I got but that was like 4 years ago and I've since gotten rid of them and couldn't find the style again.

oh no...I didn't know about the Back Porch!! next time....I was going to shout out for The Donut Hole, McGuire's Irish Pub and Pompano's Joes. that is awesome they own a condo there! the beaches at Destin are sooooo nice

Mommy-definately go to a running store and get "fitted" for shoes. If that pair works great for you, you may have success ordering additional pairs cheaper online before they discountinue that style. my PT gal is also a co-worker and friend, we workout together and do 1/2 marathons together to keep motivated. she is very familiar with my shins ;) I overpronate.....you may need to consider orthotics for your shoes if you still have problems. My Dr this morning told me that overpronation is corrected with a higher arch. my PT gal says ice, ice, ice. Have you heard of biofreeze? google it, we use it at work in PT so I snag samples but i know you can buy online. After a walk I ice my shins 15 mins then rub in the biofreeze, really working it into the muscle on the outside of each 'shin bone'. During PT they will really really work that in with their extremely muscular thumbs to the point that i'm sore that day. but in the long run it helps! with that being said, be careful jumping into a running routine, i have been told only to add 10% distance per week. It's hard to get started b/c you are gung-ho and feel like a 30 min run is minimal for cardio workout, but your legs aren't ready for all that impact right off the bat.

Karen -- pick up some Body Glide while you're there ;)

Thanks Pixiedust23!
I followed all of the advice on here and started my C25K last night - I made it through my first walk/run! I was very excited, and it was not too hard, although I did have to push myself through the last 10 minutes of running cycles. (didn't help that it was extremely windy here yesterday and I had to run into the wind on the way back) but I made it through, and my shins didn't hurt AT ALL during the walk or while running.

My shins did start getting a little sore last night, and they are a bit sore this morning, but not very bad. Today will be a day off and I plan to do W1D2 tomorrow.

Question about icing - should I ice my shins on my days off if they are sore - or ice right after my walks whether they are sore or not? I didn't ice last night because they didn't hurt when I got home and it wasn't until I went to bed that I noticed it starting.

Thanks so much for the tips and advice! Good new - I weighted myself today and lost 1 pound! Offically down 10 pounds! :) 14 to go.

Also for the shins, work on strengthening your calves. One simple way to do it is calf raises while you are brushing your teeth. Another exercise is duck walk, walking on your heels, start out for just for just a short time and increase the time you can do it. Also really stretch the calves after running. Can you tell I've had problems with my shins in the past? It is most often due to doing too much too fast, so if you stick with C25K you should be ok. If it gets bad there is a tape that you can use, but you would have to get a PT to show you how to use it probably.

My shins are hurting a little today because I did a speed interval workout the other day. But not too bad, just a little tight.

I am trying not to go to the grocery store this week before we leave town this weekend. But Monday I am going to go stock up on fruits and veggies. I am such a snacker, but I'm thinking if I stuff myself with fruits and veggies I won't have room for the chips and cookies.

Maybe once I get rid of a little of the "jiggle" in my thighs I'll be more up to spankies or whatever they are under there :lmao: I think I'm going to try it out tomorrow so we'll see how they work! I'm super excited about the running shoes too.

I was down another 2.2lbs today from yesterday so I officially have lost the water weight from the weekend (and I officially believe it really was water weight :)). So I'm back at 135.0. Goal is 125-130 fluctuations, not 135-140 fluctuations! I've got dinner out with a friend tonight but am going to go to the gym first, and have already scoped out the menu for something I hope will be healthy-ish.

on icing shins -- i have been after every walk, but not off-walk days. i have wondered that myself and I will ask my PT on Monday. I ice them even if they don't hurt after a walk

a little hiccup in the eating yesterday, took my DD and friend to the mall and they choose BD Mongolian BBQ to eat, i limited myself to one bowl and choose a lower cal/fat sauce. Also i tried to boost the protein and added tofu, not really a tofu eater but it didn't taste really at all. no rice

i'm dressed for yoga later this morning....

GREAT JOB to those who are reporting losses!! :cool1: tomorrow is my WI day, i'm not real hopeful ...

Can I join? I need/want to lose about 5-7 more pounds. I'm REALLY struggling. In part because I do WW (the old version from 2001 when I joined) and I am at the point where the points change. I weigh 150 and have been eating 23-28 points a day. When you drop below 150 the points are 18-23. So it's really tricky trying to figure it all out.

Has anyone taken a Bickram Yoga class? My BF and I are taking one tomorrow, and I'm just a little curious. I used to do yoga before I had surgery last summer, but haven't been back, as per the advice of my orthopedic surgeon. He didn't want me stretching the ligaments too much until they were really healed.

Good job on the self restraint!!! Stuff like that is my downfall because I look at it as an opportunity to cheat ("Oh I never come here, I might as well get whatever I want" etc etc).

I had a similar experience last night- tried to make the best of an eating out situation. I went out with a friend to one of my fav restaurants that has a LOT of really unhealthy meals. I got a half a chicken, with black beans and string beans as sides and ate half. Failure was that I ate the piece of cornbread that came with it (sooo high calorie but soo good), and the string beans were covered in butter or something. I also had two drinks, but made it liquor and diet so they were pretty low cal. I actually ended up another pound lighter this morning to 134 :rotfl:

Going out with DBF tomorrow to a mexican place... what the heck can I get there that isn't totally bad?? Fajitas?? I know taco salads are deadly and most everything else is too!

pixie~ what is Bickram Yoga??

:cheer2: Welcome lecach!!:cheer2: Those last few pounds really are the hardest! I totally sympathize.

Bickram yoga classes are held in extreme heat to help you "sweat out" all the toxins. They're generally longer than your regular yoga class, ours is 90 min.

Thanks for the tip! I've been doing the calf raises a couple times a day. I did my W1D2 yesterday and it wasn't too bad! Shins were a little sore but not as bad as I thought it would be. We'll see how it goes in the next couple of weeks when the running increases!

:thumbsup2:thumbsup2 MommyMcQueen!

on icing shins -- i have been after every walk, but not off-walk days. i have wondered that myself and I will ask my PT on Monday. I ice them even if they don't hurt after a walk

Thanks ohMom! I think I'll plan to ice them after every walk even if they don't hurt - been feeling okay so far, just a little sore, but deinitely managable. Iced yesterday and it seems to have helped a lot!

I can't believe tomorrow is by W1D3, then the running starts increasing - I'm a little worried about that. I feel like I'm barely making it through the little 1 minutes cycles I'm doing now!

Diet is going well this week - I've got carrots and caulifour I've been eating in place of chips or for a snack, and been drinking tons of water - epsecially after my walks. Down another pound - 13 to go! The weekend will be a challenge, I think we're going out to dinner tonight, and then easter will be double meals - lunch at one family, dinner at the other - I really need to watch the portions and NOT go back for seconds!

You can always repeat a week if you don't feel ready to increase the run segments. I've been known to do this when my running isn't very consistent.

Another weekend of bad decisions :guilty: Drank a lot yesterday, ate "crap" and then today ate and drank a ton at a friend's parents house. I feel SO full and just gross. Argh. Next weekend we're getting ready for my parents' visit the weekend after so hopefully we won't be going out at all! Salads again for lunch this week. I did great during the week last week though.

On Sat morning we ran our 5K. Really foggy and in the high 50's, not bad. I was surprised how well organized it was (it was a "first annual" race). My goal was 33 minutes and I made it in 32:39  So that's 10:32 miles. I normally run 11 min miles, and in the 8K I did a few weeks ago I was about 10:40 or something. So all in all pretty good!

I hope everyone had a great Easter!! :flower3:

Been doing well with the exercise, getting in an hour of cardio and 30 min of weight lifting 5 times a week, but the eating....ooooo the eating! I've got to clean up my act this week, bc next Saturday I'll be in a bikini, and I don't want to blind anyone (and let's face it, tanning can only help so much lol)

the Easter goodies have got me too! i have minimal candy left, but i know me and it's very hard to set limits for each day. ugh. Also my DD brought home a bag full of unique/Kinder candy from Spain. ugh

i meant to get up first thing and get my walk in before PT...that didn't happen. apparently i rolled over and went back to sleep. ugh

Up 4.6lbs from Friday :scared1:

The next three weekends look quiet for eating/drinking activities though, so I'm going to work on being good! Tonight is leftovers from last week (garlic, basil shrimp w/ veggies) and lunch is leftovers as well- chicken breast and green beans. I'm going for a run tonight after work, and a run tomorrow w/ my friend- need to take advantage of this nice (80s-ish) weather before it goes away!!

No real news to report but I wanted to say I just realized that today is my 5 year DIS-anniversary! :cheer2:

Bad weekend here as well - I did not weight myself today, I don't want to know how much it's up - but I'm guessing it'll be like KarenA's 4-5 pounds. It is reasuring to know I'm not the only one who gains that much over a 2 day period...I just feel horrible this morning from how much I ate yesterday.:guilty:

Saturday I did my W1D3 of C25K, it went well but was sprinkling, I finished it but didn't walk much extra like I usually do due to the rain. Yesterday morning I did my elliptical 45 minutes in preparation of the days meals and candy, but I still ate horribly and ate WAY too much. Today I will do W2D1 this morning maybe even squeeze in some time on elliptical tonight to burn a few exta calories. NO CANDY today...I know if I even touch one piece I won't be able to stop eating it. Gotta eat good today and count my calories and stay on track!:thumbsup2

Happy Dis-Anniverysary Karen!

here's the scoop on icing shins -- according to my PT

Ice immediately after run/walk -- ice again that evening (i walk in the morning)
Ice once a day on non-run/walk days
Do NOT ice before a run/walk -- if you have long one planned ice the night before

I was excited this morning that the scale read a 1/2 lb lighter:banana: We ate our fair share of food this weekend too - Turkey, Lemon Pie, French Toast, Eggs, Hot Cross Buns, wine, beer and the list goes on. I stayed on track with completing W4D1 today and lifting weights yesterday. We spent most of the weekend either at the beach, boating, or a friend's pool. Wearing the swimsuit:scared1:has inspired me to keep trying.

Everyone have a great week!

Thanks for the info on icing!! Great to know! My shins have been feeling suprisingly good - I'm amazed! I forgot to ice them on Saturday after my W1D3 and they were not sore at all. Yesterday I did W2D1, so I iced them after I got back even though they were feeling fine, and I'm not sore at all today - I am really amazed, this is the most I've ever ran and I can't believe they are not hurting. They were only sore after the first 2 walks.

I broke down and weighed myself today - up 2 pounds from the weekend. :guilty: I was not as good yesterday as I hoped to be, my meals were good and I did W2D1, but I did have some candy. I had a small dinner to try to balance out the calories, which only made me hungry in the evening and then I had a bag of popcorn! Uggh....I wish this candy was out of the house! I just put all remaining candy in a tupperware up in the highest cabinet - hopefully out of sight - out of mind!

I actually enjoyed W2D1 yesterday - they increased running was no problem, and I even did 2 extra 1.5 min cycles at the end, I felt really good. I need to do D2 tomorrow and they are calling for rain here. What do you guys do if you can't get out due to weather and don't have a treadmill? I guess I am worried about falling behind because I'm going to be out of town traveling Thursday-Sunday and probably won't be able to get a walk in (even though I'll be doing tons of walking on my trip), so if I miss tomorrow I'll be like a week behind, instead of just 1 walk which I can probably do on Sunday when I get home. Do I just I just pick up where I left off? :confused3

So I was 3.4lbs lighter this morning than yesterday morning :rotfl: Goes to show that weekend drinking/eating really makes a difference in water retention! Wow! So I'm only 1.2lbs heavier than last week still.

I went for a run in 88 degree weather. I made it three miles but there was this group of kids that was annoying the crap out of me. They'd sprint by me, then start walking, then as I caught up to them, they'd sprint again. After like 5 times of this they finally gave up. I realized at the end they were trying to beat me because one of the girls said something when I caught up to them again. It was so distracting and annoying. I just kept running at the same exact pace the whole time trying to ignore them  But I beat them all in the end :rotfl:

This afternoon I'm going for a run with a friend on the boardwalk. I'm excited- I haven't done that since my 8K. And I'm trying to figure out if I want to do anymore races- there's a 5K on May 1st that looks fun, and a 10K on May 29th that also looks really fun but it's memorial day weekend. I would probably do one not both, but I've never run 6+ miles before so the 10K kind of scares me.

Step AWAY from the candy everyone!!!! I have kept it out of the house so far, but I did break down and have some pasta salad from the weekend yesterday. :guilty:

Congrats MommyMcQueen on the shins not hurting! It's a wonderful thing to not be in tons of pain after running. I'm finally mostly there and it's great :goodvibes I always have multiple ways to work out (Wii fit, outside, I am a gym member) but if I go on vacation, sometimes I just have to give up and realize I won't get it in (and watch my calories). I travelled all of December and lost a ton of progress but jumped back on in January. I don't think a few days would be that bad, esp if you're walking a lot. Can you do any indoor exercises when it's raining? Like exercise videos or anything?

Scuba~ congrats on the 1/2 lb! I know what you mean about the bathing suit... I was in one for the first time this season on Saturday. MOTIVATION! ;)

I hope everyone's doing well bouncing back from the weekend!

I'm down another 1.6lbs so I'm 0.4lbs lighter than when I weighed myself last Friday. I am starting to hate that I can't figure out how much I weigh because I fluctuate so much!! This is the lowest number I've seen on the scale in a few weeks though, so that's positive :goodvibes

Ran last night for 2 miles on the boardwalk with a friend. It was nice, I probably could have gone longer but I had run 3 miles the day before so I didn't want to overdo it. I think I'm getting a blister on my toe though

Tonight is a kettle bell class with DBF... I haven't done this before so I'm hoping it won't kill me to the point of not being able to run on Thursday.

And I got my Garmin 305 in the mail last night so I'm super excited to start using it!

Thanks Karen! My shins have been feeling good, hoping to do W2D2 tonight and see how they feel after that. I do have an elliptical and a Wii that I use indoors. I don't have a Wii Fit, so I play a lot of tennis and also have the Active game, but I have not been using that. I did a 30 day training session back in February then I quit - but I want to start using it again after I'm back from my trip next week, want to start a little strength training on my off-walk days.

I would love to join a gym again but we live out in the boonies and it takes 30 minutes to drive to the closest Y, so when I do a class and drive home, I'm gone for a good 2 hours every night - hard to do with little kids and a DH who has 1-2 night meetings a week. I had joined one winter a couple years ago and it was fun and I enjoyed it, but it got tough being gone from the family every night (not to mention the icy country roads). We got the elliptical after that - and it is a good workout as long as I GET ON AND DO IT!!!!

I'll be in Washington DC this weekend so I know we'll be walking a lot but also eating out all meals. :guilty: So I'm a little worried, if I can come home and not gained I'll be happy.

I hope everyone's doing well bouncing back from the weekend!

Great job on your running Karen! And on the weight loss! The fluctuations are hard - I feel the same way, you just never really know where you're REALLY at.

I had a much better day yesterday, (I confess - a tiny bit of candy) and I did 45 minutes on my elliptical since it was raining here. I did really good on my meals too, but when I weighed myself this morning there was no change...still up 2 pounds. Planning to walk W2D2 or do elliptical (if its raining) today and I'm hoping that when I weigh tomorrow morning it'll be down a little bit!!

I guess I'm starting to see more clearly why I'm not losing weight - it takes me 3-4 days to recover from the weekend and then have 1-2 good days then weekend is back and I gain again. :headache: I think if I can get my weekend eating under better control and be sure to exercise over the weekend I can make better progress. I've always struggled on weekends - by Friday night I'm so sick of cooking meals and I just want a night off so we go out to dinner. The rest of the weekend we're running around doing stuff, grabbing meals on the go or snacking popcorn:: while watching a movie. It's gotta stop!!

I along with a lot of others gained this weekend :(. Up 3 pounds on Monday. Today I am down 2 of those but still way higher than I would like. I'm going to amp up my water intake today and lower my WW points for the day. I have found that by varying my points I lose easier. I've accepted that I wont reach my goal by next Saturday. But I will still do my best :thumbsup2

I just joined the gym recently, and I'm hoping to lose these 11 pounds by June, which is do-able, right? My gym is right next to my work, so I just go to the gym right after work. (It's a 24/7 gym...so convenient for those late shifts!)

No you can't join. It says 10lbs or less! :teacher:

:lmao: Of course you can join!!! The more the merrier :goodvibes And yes, 11lbs is totally doable as long as you're diligent. These last few are the worst. Only if I'm really really good do I start to drop on the scale. I'm hoping more training for races will help me drop weight. Soo frustrating sometimes.

Heck I don't even really know how much I want to lose since my weight fluctuates 5 lbs up or down over a week! Some days I want to lose 7lbs, some days I want to lose 12

Alright - I'll play... I want to be down exactly 10 pounds.

The past two weeks have been awful - I've been sick and can barely breathe walking up the stairs, much less take my usual classes or go on my runs...

Anyway - anyone here of that study? - woman cannot lose weight by excersize alone! They need to drastically change their diet. Or - that woman over 40 need to spend an hour a day of activity to just MAINTAIN their current weight. So not fair.

Which would explain why I'm at the same number after a really good year of workouts, runs, etc... I eat like crap!

So my focus is trying to eat better (sounds like a lot of you in the thread have the same issue).

It's just so hard...

i put off my workout this morning for that reason ;) my legs felt like lead all day yesterday after my walk. it's from Tues workout.

It's the next day now and yeah, I'm definitely feeling it!!

I love taking classes at the gym, and remember that "first time after" feeling that you get where you're sore, etc. But this time is... ridiculous! My inner thighs are sooo sore. I started taking Body Pump twice a week a few months ago and built up some muscle - I can't imagine if I didn't before taking this class! It's freaking amazing what a workout you get. So yeah I'm hurting! Maybe this is a good time to break out the yoga on Wii fit since I haven't used it since we got it in December!

Positive news though is that I really am seeing some changes in my body lately. My legs are getting more muscular and I'm overall feeling better. :)

I have another question for you all... there's a 10K on Memorial day weekend- Saturday at 8am. My DBF has a big group of friends from college that I love, and there are always people coming into town on holiday weekends (we live at the beach). So likely there will be people visiting and getting together Friday night of that weekend as a kickoff to the holiday. He's hesitant to agree to a 10K that morning because he knows there will be a lot going on that weekend, and prob that Fri night. I'd like to have something to train for, as sort of a dress rehearsal for my 10K in October, and the Half in march- and overall I want to get serious about running and get more in shape before summer. He isn't that serious about running, partly because it's not a challenge for him. He can run relatively fast on a regular basis without training.

Should I just go ahead and commit myself to the 10K without him or anyone else and just not go out on that Friday? I'm kind of worried about doing this totally alone. But if I'm going to do it, I need to start training now.

I totally get this because my husband can do a Half at any time and do it well (at a 7:00 pace the stinker!). He is just always conditioned. Me? I have to do the whole several week training plan for a Half and all of that.

10ks are literally a dime a dozen. I am sure you can find TONS of 10ks relatively close to you without having do to one on Memorial Day Week-end. And if your goal is a 10k in October, then you have plenty of time. Personally, I wouldn't try to squash everything into one week-end unless there was a pressing reason. But since you have lots of time, look around and see if you can find another race that is at a better time for you. :goodvibes

I'm feeling frustrated! I'm training hard for my triathlon and (was) eating carefully and haven't lost anything and my clothes feel the same! So of course, that's a good reason for a multi-day binge, right? :sad2: All right, back at it!

I find this happens to me as well when I am training for a tri or a full. I am just doing SO MUCH activity that it seems like my body knows it and thus holds on to every single calorie I give it because it knows that it is going to need the fuel to get through the workouts.

Are you following a specific tri training plan? If so, which one? My best advice is to mix it up as best you can--both with your training and your food. Keep tricking your body so it doesn't get into a rut. For example, with food--let's say your goal is 1500 calories/day. I would not do 1500 every day. But instead to 1200 one day, 2000 the next and so on--so that you AVERAGE 1500/day but still have big differences day to day. Same thing with working out--keep changing it up.

Well I locked myself out yesterday, and the only people who had spare keys to my apt were working late, so I had no other choice, but to go out and drink sugary frozen margaritas and eat chips and salsa....sigh.

Karen -- i agree with mccathy on the 10k thoughts

pixiedust -- the horror :scared1: i'm so glad you made it through

my WI was steady today, on the low end of my range -- i have told my DH no eating out this weekend.

ghoulishgirl -- i totally know what you are saying. the first 1/2 marathon I trained for I was like "cool! i'll be sure to shed some weight racking up all these miles..." didn't happen. i'm training for my 10th half and I've yet to lose during training. I need to count calories like 3disneykids suggests that way I can be sure to mix it up, plan for more calories on the long training days and feel in control

I hate it when that happens!!

Btw I still can't move. I think today is worse than yesterday :guilty:

And I am up a pound from yesterday, I'm going to try to suffer through a workout tonight, and we are going to a birthday party for a friend. It's a cookout... and I don't do cookouts well!! I just need to be strong. First attempt at being good over a weekend... let's see how this goes.

So... all this talk about counting calories reminded me of something I hear ALL the time:

Within 45 minutes after working out you need to feed your body. The staff at my gym recommends protein/healthy carbs. So - like an apple with peanut butter...

Just thought I'd mention it, for those of you who feel you might be starving your body by not getting enough calories.

(I usually get myself a smoothie from the gym cafe. I used to think they would tell us that just to sell us the stuff, so I looked into it a bit with different friends (who happen to be personal trainers) of mine and they all agreed.)

i've been told the same -- i try to grab yogurt, cheese stick, sometimes protein powder mixed either in milk or water

yesterday wasn't too awful....we did have our potluck (monthly) after church last night but thankfully there were no desserts! there wasn't much i was really willing to eat, spend calories on, so I felt successful. now that's not including a few glasses of wine later...

today back OP -- went to Costco friday night so we have plenty of salad, veggies, fruit...

keep strong! make today count! my WI is only 5 days away for the week

Last weeks' poor eating has really caught up with me. I'm over 120 which I didn't want. So I'm back to writing everything down. More tri training next week, as I am off and we are only 4 weeks away from the big day. I'm going to get this weight going in the right direction, which is down!

I have run two days in a row, and worked out 6 of the past 7 days, running 4 and cross training and weight lifting 2. This is the first week I finally felt bac on track. Hopefully it will carry into this week!

I'm so happy to have found you! I need to get this winter weight off before trying to get back into my summer clothes! 5 pound would be good even though I would love to lose 7.

I ran 3 miles this morning and my goal for the day is to not snack and to drink 3 bottles of water before I leave work. Now I feel accountable and that is what I need!!

Thanks! Does anyone else have a daily goal today?

Welcome Suzy! :cheer2:

Hmm.. daily goal... to not eat easter candy? :rotfl: Yeah, how about that. We have some Cadbury left at home and I need to hold strong today. The weekend was not good in terms of eating and drinking- but it has been better than previous weekends!

I am doing well on my eating for the day- probably will come in around 1100 for calories. I end up eating a ton over the weekend, then shock myself back into it on Mon/Tues and avg around 1200-1400 during the week. I'm not really losing much though :guilty:

I think I'm going to train for the 10K even if I don't end up running it. Tonight is a run night- I'm going for 3 or 4 miles. I'm still a little sore from last Wednesday and didn't work out Thurs or Fri, just walked on Saturday and ran 2.5 miles yesterday. I'm feeling really out of it after taking almost three days off!

do you all think it's harder to lose when you feel like you never will? more like frustration makes bad attitude equals body stressed and not cooperative in losing?

Well I'm back from my trip to Washington DC and I guess I achieved my goal - I didn't gain anything! I weighed myself yesterday and it was the same as when I left, so looks like all of the walking we did paid off. We ate out every meal, breakfasts and lunches were fairly small, but we did bigger dinners (backwards I know) but one night I wasn't even hungry for dinner and I just picked at it. With all of the walking we did I was never really all that hungry - I guess my mind was occupied with what we were doing/seeing and not thinking about food.

So, tonight I have to get back to the C25K - I've been off for a week so I'm starting over on week 2 this week. Weather looks to be good today so I'll be taking my walk as soon as DH gets home from work. Looking forward to getting back on the schedule for this and hopefully seeing some progress soon!

OhMom - I definitely feel like it's harder to lose when you feel like you never will. I feel like I've been fighting these same 10-15 lbs for the last 4 years - I lose 'em and gain 'em back. I feel like even if I DO lose them, in the end I'm just going to fail at my diet at some point and gain them back again. And since I already feel that way (and believe its going to happen) when I do slip and it does happen, its like I was just expecting it anyway. Its hard for me to believe that I can succeed when I've failed so many times in the past. For me it's a negative attitude, maybe negative appraoch, to losing weight - I need to stop focusing on all the things I "can't" eat in the moment and look at the positive result in the end.

I feel the same way about the negative attitude. I feel like I'm doing all I can to maintain right now. Ugh. I haven't dropped weight but honestly I haven't tried hard enough either. I get too sucked into eating bad on the weekends.

Yesterday I ran 4 miles (yay!) and today I decided to do that 10K I was waffling back and forth about. Even if no one does it with me, DBF will be on the sidelines cheering. My reasons are because a) I want to feel like I accomplished something b) I probably could use one less night of drinking and eating c) training would be a good push to maybe get down those few extra pounds and d) there are no more races over 5K until September when I'm going to be out of town! And it's $20 so if I really really want to not do it, it won't be breaking the bank :)

And goal was no candy yesterday and I met my goal... although we had leftover Chinese for dinner, which wasn't too good on my part but oh well. Parents visit this weekend and there will be lots of eating out- I need to make a concerted effort to be good!! I also am going to try to get up early on Saturday to run :goodvibes

Is it too late to join this thread? I hope I can participate:flower3: If so, here's my story:

My DH and I moved from our lovely, amazing home in Central Florida (we lived about 20 minutes from WDW) at the beginning of fall to Mid-Coastal MAINE...yes....Maine. I'd never even been to the state before, but my husband who's a maritime engineer took a position w/ the dept. of defense up here (way too good of an offer to turn down). I arrived in Maine a few months after DH. I've been here since the end of August. I was lucky that my job in Florida allowed me to keep my position, and telecommute from our new home in Maine. Working from home and experiencing a real winter (for the first time in 8 years) was very hard for me. To say I was depressed was an understatement. When I weighed myself in March and saw that I'd gained 6 pounds since moving up here freaked me out! So, I began dieting/working out (using Jillian Michaels workout dvd's). When I weighed myself last week I was pleased to see that I'd lost 7 pounds! I knew the working out was working as my jeans had been literally falling off of me even when buttoned! I was on a really good track, until my boss called on Friday to tell me that they were eliminating my position at the end of April :scared1: I am now unmotivated/depressed and it's hard to get back on the diet/workout track. I know it sounds weird, but just holding onto my job in FL made me still feel connected to my life there (plus, they'd flown me down in October, January and I was supposed to go again in May, so that helped). I am glad that I've been losing weight and got back into my size 6 jeans, but I'm very short/petite, and my goal is to get down another 7 or 8 pounds to be at the weight that I've been most of my adult life. This move has been really hard on me. I miss my friends, my job, and of course, living in beautiful Florida. Even though we have family in the North East, they all live about a 6 hour drive away from us. I know this is a great opportunity for my DH, but it's been very hard for me. It just feels hard to get motivated to lose weight and to stay motivated.

Disneychic~ Welcome to the Northeast! Sorry to hear that you are going to be losing your job. Losing that tie is tough but hopefully great opportunities lie ahead for you.

I agree with ohMom~ negativity or feeling down can definitely hinder weight loss. They even say so on Biggest Loser. Remember all your hard work Disneychic so that you don't go backwards. Stay positive and try to use this opportunity to get out there and enjoy the scenic life up there in Maine. Maybe you'll stumble upon a job opportunity that suits your lifestyle!

KarenAylwood~SO proud of you for signing up for that 10k. Setting a goal is the first step...achieving it is the final one. YOU CAN DO IT!!! I always said I wanted to do a marathon and my sister signed me up when I was only running 3 miles!!! fast forward a year later to when I crossed the finish line at the Disney Marathon!!! Oh What a Feeling!!! Think of how you will feel when you cross that finish line! When is the race and what is your goal (timewise) to finish?

Heatherlynn...I'M SO JEALOUS!!!!!

Mommy Mcqueen..hope you had a nice trip. I want to go in November.

I reached my goal of drinking all my water yesterday. Did eh-eh wil my snacking...always a tough one for me. My goal for tomorrow is to wake up early and run 3 miles. Getting out of bed early on Wednesdays are difficult since I have to get up extra early. This will be a stretch for me...but if I posted it I must do it!

I'm sooooo excited! Right after I wrote that I decided to do the 10K no matter if it was alone or not, one of DBF's friends emailed me and asked for the info again, and then signed up!!! I ran with her in the 8K in March and we were both really excited to run the whole distance and both kind of got bitten by the running bug. I'm so happy! Then when I came home and told DBF I was definitely running, he said "ok, I guess I'm running too!" I think he was waiting for me to make my own decision and then was going to decide based on that. So now I have two people doing it with me!!!

Suzy~ It's on May 29th- the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend (hence my hesitation) at 8am. The course is super pretty, and you get a technical tshirt, and pizza and beer at the end and it's only $20! For the 8K my goal was under an hour and I hit 53:08. My goal this time is 1:08 since that would be about 11 minute miles. I'm currently running about that pace- and I've never run 6 miles before. My top distance is 5 miles and I've done that twice. DBF however can run 5 miles no problem w/ no training, and his goal I think is 48 minutes.

Yesterday I ate really healthy, worked out (but a little too hard- my leg hurts) and drank a ton of water. For dinner I made homemade tacos (homemade seasoning sans sugar, lean ground beef, lots of veggie toppings and whole wheat tortillas) and only had one even though I usually have two and stuff myself! I did have about 300 cal worth of chocolate though... but I think I was under in calories for the day. I woke up this morning down 1.8lbs from yesterday, so that's about the rest of my weekend weight. 135.2 is the current number but that's what I've been hovering at for weeks!! ARGH.

Parents arrive tomorrow... goal is to be good for the 5+ meals we're eating out!

disneychic~ I'm so sorry you're feeling so depressed! I moved for my ex-DBF and worked shift for two years and it really took a toll on me emotionally. Friends nearby and weather can really make a difference in your mood. Can you join a group in the area? Get involved in something and meet some new people? I know it's hard- it took me along time when I moved to really feel "at home." Definitely join in on the thread!! We're here to support ;)

Great attitude Karen!!! I bet you that you'll beat that time! My first (and only) 10k I had a goal of 70 minutes. I ran it in 67. I was totally shocked! keep up your training!!

I got up and ran 2 miles today and had to stop because I was running out of time. I have the Lincoln Tunnel Challenge coming up in 1 1/2 weeks and I am trying to finish under 30 minutes! Then May 2nd I'm doing the Long Branch 1/2 marathon with a goal to beat my time of 2:20. I need to get moving!!

More goals for today....drink a ton of water and no snacking at school (work).

Have a great day!

Thank you Suzy Mouse & Karen :) I appreciate the warm welcome and kind words. My DH and I talked for a long time last night, and we're in agreement that we will stay up here in Maine through 2010 and then he will look to transfer some place out of state at the beginning of 2011. It's not that I don't like trying new places, we didn't really know anyone in Florida when we moved there either, but this is just way too far away from friends, family and job opportunities for me (unless you work for the govt. or work in the medical field jobs are very few and far between up here). I think I will end up collecting unemployement but I've decided to volunteer during the week at a nearby maritime museum. This way, I'll be able to get out more and meet people. In the meantime, I thank GOD that we are DVC members. I have quite a few trips booked that I can look forward to. And after watching last night's episode of the biggest loser I've found some motivation to help me get back into work-out mode today! Thanks again. Good luck on your weightloss/diet plan!

I most likely won't be posting for a few days because my parents fly in tonight and will be here until Monday morning. I'm SO excited to see them. They haven't visited together since 2006! We've got a bunch of plans - Williamsburg tomorrow and lots of going out to dinner. My dad is the pickiest eater on EARTH so cooking is pretty much out of the question although I'm going to make them suffer through one meal on Saturday night ;)

I'm down to 134.8- so back to "normal" after my gain over the weekend. We're eating out 3 dinners and probably 3 lunches so it will take a LOT of effort on my part to watch what I eat!! I'm going home early to run before picking them up at the airport, and I'll get up early on Saturday to run as well.

disneychic~ Yeah I was thinking sometimes money just isn't worth being totally miserable. Hopefully he'll be able to find something in a good location! And wow you have a lot of trips coming up! That's awesome (aka I'm super jealous) and definitely something to look forward to :)

Suzy~ I don't know if I could EVER finish a marathon. I'd absolutely love to though! I'll have to see how I feel about the half first.

I hope everyone has a great (and healthy) weekend!!

:welcome: amanda.stacy!

heatherlynn--have you 'shaken up' your routine lately? I'm a believer of intervals, maybe some interval training in your running?

Mommy- by chance are you coming out of a period where you were not eating enough? reason being, if you were in that 'starvation mode' your body may be holding onto those calories (stored) in preparation for the next starvation period. in other words, your metabolism is maybe trying to figure out what is going on and then can respond...

Karen -- enjoy the parent's visit!

disneychic--(((hugs))) I moved around alot growing up and i remember the difficulties of adjusting to new home, that's within Ohio so I can only image the shock between FL and Maine. As an Ohioan I am jealous of your Maine residency ;) I would love to see the New England states someday, are you near the coast? Truly not making light of anything, but have you considered the idea of 'seasonal depression'? we totally go through that here, in Jan/Feb the holidays are over, it's gray outside and get's dark at 5 p.m., it's just depressing.

i've got alot going on this weekend...will think of our group and make decision that support my goals!!

where is everyone? how did you weekend go?

Same to you!!

My weekend went alright eating-wise (went great otherwise!). Dropped my parents off at the airport on the way to work this morning.

We had a ton of fun! Ate out a lot- pizza on Thursday, deep fried sandwich on Friday, crabcake sandwich on Saturday, cheesy sandwich and flounder covered in some sort of cream sauce on Sunday... Jeez!! I did eat only half of most meals and got a salad or veggie as a side instead of fries when there was a choice. We walked A TON, and I ran 2.5 miles after work on Thursday, and got up early on Saturday to run 3 miles. We literally walked SO MUCH everyday that I think that helped a lot. I'm up 2.8lbs this morning but went to bed VERY full from last night so I know with a lot of water I'll drop (my usual weekend gain is 4-5lbs!).

We do have a lot of "unhealthy" leftovers to eat this week, but I'm trying to keep it to a minimum. I had half a sandwich for lunch since it was loaded with bacon and cheese. Tonight I'm planning on running 4 miles. DBF and I have both said we need to be healthy until Florida (early june). Now let's see how easy that is to do!

I spent a TON of money at the outlets but found a lot of cute new clothes. I'm excited because I could see a difference in my body once I started trying clothes on. So that's more motivation! :goodvibes

How was everyone else??

had a great weekend of no plans!!!

So I decided today to start recording what I eat/counting calories. I won't do it forever, I just think it wil help me see all the little calories here and there I put in my mouth adding up, so I can be aware of where/when I need to cut back.

Hi everyone-

I had a bad eating weekend - out for pizza Friday night then we went camping over the weekend and ate pretty bad. I did incoroprate lots of veggies, but I think the chips and salsa may have outweighted that! Didn't weight myself today, knew it would be bad.

I too am going to start tracking my calories and measuring/recording everything, I had been for a few months but the last month or so I have not - and guess what - I haven't lost anything in the last month or so...so theirin lies the problem - I'm sure I'm consuming too much and trying to convince myself I'm not!!

So, I'm heading out to do W3D1 of the C25K - hoping I can make it through the 3 minute runs!! Keeping my fingers crossed!!!

MommyMcQueen~ good job on the veggies despite the chips and dip- I've realized any kind of effort sometimes is better than none at all!! Like this weekend when I ate pretty much whatever I wanted- I subbed fries/potato salad for veggies or a salad every time, and almost always ate half my meal. Even just doing that I gained 2.8lbs instead of 4-5, and this morning I'm already down 2.4 from yesterday! So no loss or anything, but I'm lower than I normally am at this time in the week.

Yesterday for dinner we had leftovers from the meal I made Saturday (healthy minus the white pasta!). I had a few small pieces of candy afterwards but not much.

This morning I got trays made so I can whiten my teeth (yay!), and got a cavity filled at the dentist :sad1: I HATE the dentist. And she knicked my gum with the grinder so I'm bleeding :sad2: and once the novacaine wears off I'm sure it will feel even worse!

I did however run 4 miles yesterday!! Does anyone else have pain in their hips/knees while they run and right after but then it's gone maybe a few hours later? I'm wondering how bad it is. I don't feel like I'm permanently hurting myself since it goes away, but I start to have pain in my knees and hips during the run, the hips are fine after and knees hurt for a few hours :confused3

maybe try icing them after your run.

I am on day 2 of my calorie counting, and going well so far. yesterday I clocked in right at 2000 calories which I don't think is too high since I run 4 times a week and cross train 1-2 times a week. I am making adjustments as well so we will see where I am after a week.

hi everyone! Can I join the group? I joined Weight Watchers in November of2007. Lost about 30 pounds and made Lifetime in April 2008:woohoo: Since then I have put some weight back on and I can't seem to get back down to where I feel best.

I have been struggling with these last few pounds forever...so frustrating.:guilty:I do well for a couple of weeks, then I don't know what happens and I lose control again. Up and down with the same pounds UGH! I didn't weigh in last week since I had my period and I felt awful and bloated. Thought I would wait a week and get it under control but of course that didn't work and I was eating poorly again most of the week. I have no idea where I am now and I really don't want to see that number tomorrow.:headache:

I'm trying to be active....I walk on the treadmill 5 days a week and do some strength training as well. Usually I do about 2.1 miles in 30 minutes on the treadmill but today I stayed on until I got to 3.1 miles (all the talk about the 5K challenge at Weight Watchers got me to thinking about it).

I'd love to be able to run so yesterday I added in some jogging, but I'm having a problem with my knee and the jogging caused it to hurt more so I backed off that for now.

Anyway...hopefully with the support of this group and committing myself to getting off this roller coaster, I can can reach my goal!

Hi Karen!

Thanks! I'm trying hard to get more fruits and veggies as part of my "normal" diet - and not consider it "diet" food! I've never been a big fruit/veggie eater, but in the last year I've done much better - and I just had a banana and cauliflower with my sandwich for lunch instead of chips! Baby steps...

Great job on your running! I would love to be able to run that far someday! Congrats on the new clothes! It is always a great feeling to try on and feel good in new clothes.

My tracking has been going well - just did yesterday and today but having a good week so far. Did W3D1 yesterday and it was actually great! I made it through the 3 min run cycles - was fine after the first one and a little tired after the second, but made it through and even did a couple extra 1.5 min cyles at the end. It felt good - I was a little shocked. My shins were a bit tight when I got home, iced them last night and no pain at all today. This morning I did 30 min on the elliptical - and I increased my intensity for the first time (I usually just do it on the lowest resistance) and alternated every 3 minutes to a higher/lower resistance - actually went up 2 levels!

So even though I'm not seeing huge numbers on the scale, I am starting to see some progress. After my walk yesterday DH said "that was fast" and I looked at the clock and the route that used to take me 40 minutes to walk I got done in 30. And on my elliptical the program that used to take me 31-32 minutes I'm now finishing in about 26 minutes. Now I need to increase my distances.

Ugh...I shudder at the word dentist. :scared: I too HATE the dentist.

Hey everyone! I was off all last week and it was hit or miss as far as eating goes. My danger zone is in the afternoon ( if I'm already home) or when I walk in the door after work. Tri training is the same (hard!), just got to get the eating under control. I started AGAIN :sad2: yesterday and I am back to writing it all down.

O boy, I'm back from vaca in WDW. Sigh. I'm not getting on the scale until at least Friday! I was out shopping yesterday trying to find a new dress to wear on my birthday on Friday, and I went to a bunch of little boutiques, and let's just say I was not liking the way the clothes were fitting. I'm very determined now to get my eating back under control and keep my workouts on track. I was able to do at least 60 min of cardio on 3 days while on vacation along with all the walking we were doing, so I least I had that going for me.

Ahhhh...finally after 3 weeks I had a good weigh-in! I'm down that 1.5 pounds I've been up (so finally back to where I was before Easter) and I've had a really good week - for whatever reason my motivation is back and I've really enjoyed my workouts and haven't hated cutting back on my food. The tracking is helping A LOT, I've been eating a lot less and making a lot healthier choices - fruits and veggies at every meal.

On Wednesday I re-worked my walking route to make it 4 miles, I thought it was about a 3 mile walk, but I mapped it and it was actually only 2.75! So I made a new route that is 4 miles, walked it Wed and did C25K on it yesterday - I was feeling so good after the C25K run cycles that I did a few extra 3 minute run/walks - I know it's kind of a no-no to go off the plan and do more - but I've been doing some extra 1.5 min cycles and really wanted to challenge myself - and it wasn't bad, I was able to pretty easily make it through them - I basically doubled what was required for the day. I felt GREAT when I got home and that was the most I've ever ran - total of 18 minutes, whole walk was was 54 minutes so almost 1/3 of it I ran. I could feel it last night though - was sore, iced the shins and definitely feel a bit more stiff today, but still glad I did it. Also loving the longer route.

Oh - question for you runners - what do you do for chaffing? On Wed when I walked I wore kind of a baggy T and on the back side of my arm/armpit it must have rubbed funny, I got a little chaffed mark. I put a bandaid over it and when I went yesterday and bandaid slipped (due to sweat) and created it's own even larger and deeper (and more painful:headache:) chaffe mark! So now I have 2 gigantic bandaids on the back/inside of my one arm. I don't know how many nerve endings are back there exactly, but for a tiny little mark it really hurts! Its a bit too cold here to go sleeveless - anything I can do to cover them until they heal, that will stay in place during my walks?? Not planning to walk today, so hoping by tomorrow they will be a little better. Thanks!!!

MMQ -- get Bodyglide -- you can buy at running stores for sure, maybe larger sporting stores like Dick's. it looks like a deodorant, you apply it on the high-risk chaffing areas to prevent chaffing.

I had a spot on the back of my upper arm that got me recently and I know what you mean it's tender. actually sleeveless was how i got it. I did put 'serum' on the area hoping that would help it heal quicker; like facial product serum. Do you have any type of wrap bandaging to cover for your next run? just a thought, i've never tried.

the theory is to never add more than 10% to your distance at one time...like if you were going a 3 mile route, you'd add .3 miles. that is to prevent injury....i'm not very good at following that rule either but i usually pay for it too ;)

Thanks OhMom - I'll look for the BodyGlide, I could try wrapping my arm with a small piece of ace and see if that works - they don't hurt at all if they're covered, just when fabric rubs against.

I know it was probably bad of me to run so much longer - the distance I was not too worried about - last summer when I only walked I would do up to 6 miles a day, so walking the 4 is no problem, but adding the extra running in there was probabably a little much - oh well, live and learn! I'm not really sore today but may have a more difficult time tomorrow when I walk/run - the shins may bother me more...they're not sore now though and I plan to ice again today. If I work out tonight I'll elliptical...no walk today, give them a break.

I'm still 14 pounds from my goal - I want to be under 10! Hope everyone is having a good week!

Oh wow I've never heard of that 10% rule! Pretty interesting. As for body glide I thought of getting it for my thighs for when I wear skirts. Normal walking around is fine bc they don't chaff, but when I run for like 4 miles they get a little annoying. For when I run I wear snug fitting tshirts so I never have a problem with skin on skin contact with my arms, and I NEVER wear sleeveless (I hate running in sleeveless). I almost always wear these (http://www.target.com/C9-Champion-Power-Workout-Tee/dp/B003196RYU/ref=br_1_26?ie=UTF8&frombrowse=1&searchView=grid5&searchNodeID=2241723011&node=2241723011&sr=1-26&searchRank=-price&searchPage=1&sessionID=184-0892058-6744444&searchSize=30&qid=) from Target. I am a size 6 or so, and wear a small. I absolutely love them and they sometimes go on sale for 7.50 each!

Congrats MMQ on the loss!! I'm up but haven't been eating super well. Argh. I have my work physical this coming Wednesday so I'd like to lose a little before then! Tomorrow at work we're having a bbq so I know I won't eat well but need to put in some effort!

that reminds me of a question i wanted to ask - for those of you who wear running skirts -- i was out walking, it was pretty windy and my shorts were driving me crazy when I walked facing the wind, they were blowing inbetween my legs and making my shorts feel all twisted. would a skirt solve that problem?

happy day! i saw a number beyond my normal range today -- i haven't been real faithful in the weighing weekly and next week i'll be gone for a long weekend. so i don't know what my official loss for this week would be...i'm just super pumped I had one!

Can I just say that my heart breaks for you!? New England winters are tough enough, but add in the fact that you haven't been experiencing them in a while, plus the depression and it was probably a really tough winter for you!
I'm sure that your DH has a GREAT job, but that doesn't really make it any easier for you. ..............P

It's been a LONG winter - even though this wasn't too bad of a winter, weather wise. DH actually got a call for a job interview for an engineering job with GE that is in the Albany, NY area - which would be really good, since I will only be a 2 1/2 hour drive to my mom & dad, brother & his fiance, and my other friends and family. I can totally handle a 2 1/2 hour drive! 6 hour drive...not so much. I'd never do that by myself. That's just a bit too long do drive alone. Hope everyone has a good weekend!

That's awesome! I grew up in that area and my parents and grandma still live there. I'm from Clifton Park and as far as I know GE is in Schenectady which is only 15-20 minutes from there (we drove by it when we went to see Wicked over Christmas). I obviously moved away to the south but it's not a bad area. If you have any questions just let me know!

OhMom~ I second the running skirts. I couldnt' do the spankies underneath so I went with the "athletic skirt" that has shorts under it. My favs are New Balance brand but I haven't tried the runningskirts.com ones that heatherlynn likes.

It's the weekend almost! Time to try to be good. I just ate a huge bbq lunch and was definitely NOT good in terms of being healthy but it was for a good cause (a coworker's son was electrocuted and the family can't afford medical or travel bills :sad2: so they had a fundraiser).

I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Hope everyone had a good weekend!

I had a really good weekend and was not expecting this morings result.

Friday I told DH that I did not want to go out to dinner (that is out usualy Fri night thing which starts my weekend off on a bad note) so we didn't, instead I did 4 mile walk and ran my C25K intervals. Felt great. DH made a frozen pizza - I had 1 slice for dinner, and we had some popcorn later with the kids movie. I was right on for my calories for the day.

The whole weekend was cold and rainy here, so I knew there would be no walks. I took Saturday off from exercising since I did a long walk/run the night before, I was down another .5 llb. Ate decent Saturday - small breakfast, sandwich and cold veggies for lunch. Saturday dinner could have been better - we decided to get a rotisserie chicken from the deli, also got mashed potatoes, cole slaw, rolls. I admittedly ate too much, and then DH got out Klondike bars. I had 1/2 a bar then really didn't want the rest so I didn't finish it. I was full after that dinner...I had only had about 600 calories at breakfast & lunch, but I don't know how many dinner was. 1000+??...ugh, sick.

Sunday morning I decided to get up and do 45 minutes on my elliptical, relieve some of the guilt from previous nights dinner. I made a breakfast casserole which we had for a late breakfast/early lunch. I added all the ingredient calories and divided by the portions so I new how many calories I was having. :) That was all I ate until dinner, although I snacked on cauliflower in the afternoon. Dinner DH cooked out burgers, so I did have a burger on a bun (we get extra lean 93%), also had veggies, and broke down and had some chips.:headache:

After dinner the rain stopped and skies cleared and I decided at 7pm to go do my C25K - starting week 4 this week! I was super excited about the 5 min intervals - and I was able to do them with very little problem - yeah I was winded but I did it! I only did the 30 minutes, wanted to get home to put the kids to bed so I only did my short route. I am amazed though - 3 weeks ago I could barely run 1 minute - now I can do 5! This is the first time in my adult life that I've ran 5 minutes straight! :goodvibes I felt really good last night and honestly thought that I had a really good weekend with my diet/exercise. Way better than my usual weekend anyway.

I really debated about weighing myself this morning. I figured I'd be up a pound, maybe I'd get lucky and it would only be 1/2. But luck was not with me today....I'm up 2 pounds. :sad1: I know some of it could be water, I did have some salty foods over the weekend. But seeing 2 was really disappointing, especially after all the exercise...I really felt like I pushed myself this weekend - longer walks, higher resistance on the elliptical, and longer running. Oh well...nothing I can do about it now...time to stop moping and get back at it! :thumbsup2

Thanks for allowing me my weekend confession! Hope you all did well!

Bad weekend for me. It was my birthday weekend, so I ate pizza and cupcake on friday, french dip with fries, anc cheese steak with fries on sat, stuffed french toast and roast beef sandwich on sunday. I'm now sick in bed. I think it's a combo of stress and poor eating. Sigh.

Happy Birthday pixiedust23! Sorry you're not feeling well.

Terrible binge weekend again. My boss' family came in for dental work (I'm a dental asst.) and my boss's mom ALWAYS brings a bag of snacks. One paper grocery bag for him and one for me to take home. I'm sure you know how the rest goes...

Back on track today with swimming 1600+ yards and good eating.

I am 5'6 weight 135, work out 5 days a week. I run, do the stair climber, strength train/tone, and do zumba. I could not figure out why the heck I could not loose a few. It was my diet, my DH is such a bad influence on me. I am on week 2 eating at home, not eating out. If I have had to it's a sald with ff ranch. I had sushi last night. The sushi was such a treat, but still very healthy. What am doing is cutting out bread, pasta, and sweets. Sticking the fruit, and those 100 calorie yoplait yogurt parfaits are quite good. From doing this I feel soooo much better all ready. I have lost 3 pounds and my tummy is looking nice and flat for that bikini. I know I will blow it at Disney in a few weeks, but I can still eat healthy there.

The weekend wasn't bad here! I only gained a little- maybe like half a pound (my normal gain is 4-5lbs for the weekend) although now two days later I'm still hanging at the same weight I normally am after losing the water weight :confused3

We ate healthy on Friday, went out for drinks and had a few beers, on Saturday we ate out and I got a cheeseburger but it didn't sit well for me at all. On Sunday we worked out and I was mostly good on my eating. We drank a lot less and ate less than normal for a weekend which was good.

I ran 4.5 miles on Monday - race is in less than 5 weeks! I felt really good after it. I'm loving my Garmin and just started putting stuff on garmin connect. It's so cool!

This weekend will be a beach weekend and we're going out for someone's birthday on Saturday night so I'll have to make a special effort not to go crazy on food and drink!!

MommyMcQ~ I still think making a special effort and watching what you do on the weekend is still a big accomplishment even if you don't see the loss (or lack of gain) you wanted. Just think- there's no way you were in excess of 7000 calories... so you couldn't have actually gained a real 2lbs!

Karen :woohoo: great job this weekend -- i need the inspiration!

i popped on WISH this weekend and saw no replies on our thread and i figured my friends were struggling over the weekend too. we had confirmation lunch on sunday after church, so i know i was over on Sunday. Saturday i was not doing well controling my sugar impluses --

i did, however, get my 11 miles in for the 1/2 training last friday. my legs/shins started talking to me at mile 8 and were screaming at me the last mile. I'm going to PT twice this week and intend on finishing out the big training walks tomorrow morning with the 8 miler. i'll be satisfied if I can get over 6 in, my legs/feet are really ready for a taper.

tomorrow afternoon i'm leaving for a long scrapbook weekend -- only 2 meals are provided which i'm happy about. there are maybe 10 gals that will be staying the weekend, everyone pitching in food/snacks. i'm going to bring some yogurt and few things to help me stay focused, and remember to really think about whether this snack or that one is worth the calories. i.e., box-made brownies, sure they are good but are they worth it? it's not like it's chocoulate souffle at Palo :thumbsup2

I did good this week! The kids were home on vacation and we did some eating out but I was still able to lose weight this week! I am down 3.4 pounds:woohoo:

I managed to track almost all my food all week; ate out at Taco Bell and only had one fresco taco, which didn't fill me but it was enough to satisfy me for a short time. We stopped there on the way home from the zoo and I also had some healthy snacks in the car that I ate on the ride home after Taco Bell. Also went to lunch at Not Your Average Joe's where they have the most amazing bread and oil/garlic/parmesan dip....:cloud9:it is sooooo goood! I had one peice but looked up thepoints value for it and made sure I counted in my daily points (weight watchers) I also ordered a salad with grilled chicken and had oil & vinegar on the side.

Exercised a good amount this week....I started the couch to 5k plan last week. My knee is giving me trouble even with the little bit of running on week 1, so I don't know how that is going to go.

Overall, I am pretty excited with my progress and self control this week! Fingers crossed that it continues. Hope everyone else has a good week as well.

Wow - OhMom - 11 miles is incredible! Hope your legs are feeling better.

My scale did settle down for me - Tuesday morning I weighed and lost 1, and this morning I lost the other 1, so back to where I was last Saturday morning...and actually .5 down from that. Been a good week - tracking everything and staying on my calories, walked Monday night with DH and the kids and did C25K last night. Tonight I'm meeting a friend at the mall and we walk, it should be fun. The mall is about a mile lap, and last time we walked 6 laps, so I should get a good walk in tonight...always helps when you have someone to chat with along the way.

Have fun at the scrapbook weekend! Fellow scrapbooker here! I've never done a weekend crop but they look fun!

I did good this week! The kids were home on vacation and we did some eating out but I was still able to lose weight this week! I am down 3.4 pounds:woohoo:

Exercised a good amount this week....I started the couch to 5k plan last week. My knee is giving me trouble even with the little bit of running on week 1, so I don't know how that is going to go.

Overall, I am pretty excited with my progress and self control this week! Fingers crossed that it continues. Hope everyone else has a good week as well.

Hi Cepmom! Congrats on the loss! That is great! Congrats on starting the C25K, I'm on week 4 and love it. I hope the knee pain doesn't hold you back. I ice my shins after every walk and that helps with that - actually the first week my shins hurt the most - after that I've had very little pain but I'm into a regular routine of icing now after each one. Good Luck!

Aw. Yeah I read your blog- sounds like a tough 5k!! At least you had cute new clothes to wear while doing it! And omg I can't believe that sizing you talked about. Makes me hesitate ordering anything online (I'm sooo picky with clothes and how they fit). Feel better!!

I had my yearly work physical today (I work at a chemical manufacturing plant so there's a nurse onsite and we get a physical yearly). I was really surprised because this morning I weighed myself and was 135.4, then there I was 134.6 fully clothed with shoes on after drinking water :confused3 I hate that. I wish I knew which scale was right! I remember my wii fit told me I weighed less than our scale at home too. Who knows. Either way, last year I weighed in at 142 during my physical :) I'm pretty interested to see my bloodwork too.

cepmom~ I'm truly inspired. I have not been super diligent, although better than normal I guess!

I did zumba class for an hour today, tons of lunges. Man I love that class. I have been going for a year and a half now. Stuck to a banana for breakfast, grilled ck salad for lunch (no croutons) light dressing on the side, and two low carb tortilla shrimp tacos I made at home. I am so tempted to get a 31cent scoop at Baskin Robbins tonight :) I looked it is only 160 calories and 11 grams in the scoop. I have not had sweets in over 2 weeks. It would be nice to have a treat.

How'd everyone do over the weekend??

Eating and drinking for me was bad (up 4lbs since Friday) :sad2: but I did make a healthy new meatloaf recipe that I was really psyched about on Sunday. I need to get a handle on things this month!! We went to the beach on Saturday and out for a friend's bday. Then ate bad on Sunday since I wasn't feeling too good after Saturday!

I ran on Saturday morning in the heat- 2.5 miles. I had run 4 on Thursday and 4.5 on Monday so I made it a short day, but tried to vary my speed. I did a half mile at 9:00 then a half at 11:00 and so on for 2.5 miles. I felt really good after, even though I was really tired. Then I woke up on Sunday feeling like I had pulled something in my right leg- my quad maybe? I've been icing it since and am flipping out because it's only 4 weeks to the 10K and I don't feel like I can run at all!! I don't even know how I pulled it- I stretched and warmed up on Saturday more than usual. :confused3 How do you guys deal with pulled muscles? I was going to skip the run today and go to the gym and do the elliptical/bike or something. Do you run through the pain? Stop working out? Just take it easy? :sad1:

Hi Karen!

Sorry to hear your leg is sore! Hope it feels better after some rest! Sorry, I don't have any advice on what to do about it...

I had a decent weekend...shockingly!!! I weighed myself Saturday morning and I'm the same today.

Friday night we went out for fast food since we had some errands to run - I limited myself to 500 calories (burger, small fries). Saturday morning I got up and did C25K - it was hard since I never walk in the morning, so I was actually really tired - just didn't have my usual energy, plus it was sunny and humid, I was just dripping wet and beet red. Saturday we went camping but I did okay - I ate all small meals and allowed myself 2 s'mores (added up to 300 calories). Only had 1 drink so fewer calories there than normal. It was a good day and I was happy that I could go, enjoy myself and not feel totally deprived.

Sunday was okay - did eat a little more than usual, snacked after we got home from camping (I think out of boredom), but just ate a salad with a little bit of chicken for dinner. Also did C25K last night - W5D1 - it was a bit harder, all 5 min runs. But I did it, and did 1 extra 5 min interval, so ran total of 20 minutes. Tomorrow will be a big day - they have an 8 min run on there, hope I can make it.

So all in all it was a good weekend for me. Back to tracking everything and plan out my workouts for the week. Goal for next weekend is to see the scale go down!!! Still 13 pounds from my goal...lotta work to do yet.

Hope everyone had a good weekend!

MMQ -- i think your weekend was very successful!

Karen -- i would not walk(run) myself if I felt like it was a pulled muscle. let it heal completely....seems like it should heal quickly if it's just a simple strain, i wouldn't worry about event 4 weeks away quite yet...did you get your long training runs in yet?

well my weekend went bust. i was gone thur-sun night, we brought some food for lunches, and we brought healthy things. but the 'pitch-in' on saturday was mostly snacks and sweets. i had taken a sheet cake, didn't ever think i'd bring any home, but i did and just had it for breakfast! oops!

I didn't do so well this weekend. Had DD's birthday party on Saturday and even though I swore I wouldn't I ate 2 pieces of ice cream cake, chips and pizza . Then yesterday I was back on track, went to MIL's for her birthday and brought my own healthy food since the food they were serving was gong to be too many points for me and we were planning on taking DD to Uno's for her birthday dinner. Did well at Uno's and had a slad and the veggie soup (which ws really good!) but then DD ordered the mega sized chocolate chip cookie sundae and we all shared it. When we got home I ate some more junk and I have no idea why since I wasn't even hungry I just wanted to pick. :headache:

Hopefully back on track today though...I weigh in on Wednesday and at this point I'm hoping to just stay the same and not gain this week

I took the day off from the gym yesterday and iced my leg. I ate pretty well - ended up with 1130 calories for the day and drank all my water. I'm trying to track on sparkpeople again to keep up with what I'm eating. I'm down 2.2 lbs today from yesterday :) Need to be down 2 more and I'll be at my Friday weight.

I'm going to the gym tonight to do the elliptical/bike and will do strength tomorrow and run on Thursday. I think my leg should be doing better by then!

heatherlynn~ good to hear you're feeling better!

ohMom~ I got up to 4.5 miles (I'm planning on getting up to 6 before the race). Monday was my long run day so I nixed that and will run on Thursday. I think I could do a 10K now, just might want to die at the end :rotfl:

MommyMcQ~ awesome job on the weekend! :thumbsup2

Hope everyone is having a good week!

Last night was a big accomplishment for me - did W5D2 of the C25K which conisists of 8 minute running intervals - and I was able to do them all and even a little more! I was REALLY nervous about it - I don't think I've ever run 8 minutes before in my life. :goodvibes So when I started out I did the first 8 and was feeling pretty good - so I added 1 more minute on it and did 9. (Tomorrows run is a straight 20 minute, so with the thought of that looming over my head I wanted to push myself a little bit longer). After my second 9 min I was feeling REALLY great that I did it, and I felt like I had tons of energy. I walked a couple minutes and decided to do 1 more interval so I did an additional 9 min. Its funny - it seems like the running that I do after I finish with what is "required" of me for that day is so much easier to do! I'm sure it's all in my head - like the pressure is off and I can just go and do it and actually enjoy it, and not worry "am I gonna make it??"

So I weighed myself this morning and I'm down 2 pound from Monday - not sure if that's accurate, seems like a lot for me in 3 days. I could be a little low on water, so I'll be drinking more today and see. I was very happy to see that number but not sure if I believe it! If I'm still there tomorrow then I'll believe it!

Tomorrow is big a C25K day - first 20 min run! I am super nervous but after the good run yesterday I do think I'm ready for it. I had read that at this point in the program it is all mind over matter...your body is ready. I do actually think I can do it, so I just have to keep telling myself that I can! I am a bit worried because I'm coming down with my son's cold (he's had a bad cough this week) and I need a good nights sleep tonight...last 2 nights haven't been too good (running DS to the ER at midnight and last night we had severe thunderstorms and tornado warnings) so hoping I can get a good sleep tonight and be well rested for tomorrows run! :thumbsup2

My problem is that I don't know WHAT I should be eating!!! I posted a thread about how much to eat maybe a week or two ago after you said you came in at 2000 calories... I was like WHAT? I could never eat 2000 calories and lose weight- on the contrary I'd gain. I just don't know how much I should be eating. I probably hover between 1200 and 1450 on most days during the week. :confused3 When I posted the question people said anything from 1200 to 1600 I think.

This week I've dropped to below what I was on Friday so the weekend "weight" is gone and I'm down another 0.6lbs but that's nothing really abnormal. Still in my same "range."

I didn't work out Monday but did 50 min of cardio and abs/stretching on Tuesday, then did body pump yesterday and going for a run today. I've got free lunch at work the next two days so let's see how good I can do. It's always a sandwich, chips and dessert (today will be a sandwich, tomorrow will be chick fil a). I'm hoping to at least not eat the chips!

Great work this week everyone! :thumbsup2

TFIG! Hope everyone has had a good week. Mine has been pretty good!

Last night I ran my very first 20 min run on the C25K! It was good - it was hard though. The longest I've ran was 9 min the other day, so this was challenge! I did okay until about min 13, then my legs started getting tired, I wanted to stop and stretch but I just slowed down my pace and kept going. Got into a groove until min 17 then I had to go up a small hill, okay tiny hill really - its just a very gradual incline but it felt like a mountain! But I didn't stop (even though I really wanted to!) and eventually I made it to 20 min! My legs were feeling it and my back - I walked a bit and stretched some, which helped. I walked for several minutes and was feeling pretty good - walking at a faster pace than usual, so I attempted to jog again but ohhhh could I feel it and I only made it 2 mins. Iced the shins last night and feel pretty good today - bit tight but not sore. So - WOW just 4 weeks ago I could barely run 1 minute and I just did 20! The route tracker showed me going 1.80 miles in the 20 minutes, which is like 11-11:30 min mile - not bad for a first time?

I weighed in this morning and down another pound! Somehow I lost 3 pounds this week - totally amazing. I'm so excited - down 14 pounds now, 10 more to go! I know the running is what's doing it, I've been diligent on my tracking but I've lost 7 pounds now in the last month which is huge for me, took me over 2 months to lose the first 7 when I was just using my elliptical.

Wednesday night I stopped at Shopko for something and I looked at a couple of their t-shirts, and I tried a couple on and I could actually fit in a small! I think their clothes do run big but I've never been able to get in a small before. I also tried on some capris and shorts and could fit into a size smaller! YEAH! :goodvibes

I've been trying to plan out my workouts for the weekend - it will be a bit difficult since the weatherman is calling for SNOW here tomorrow! :sad2: Seriously? Snow? 2-4 inches he said. Then it will all melt on Sunday when it is 50 degrees. So hopefully I can get back out on Sunday to start Week 6!

Hope everyone has a good weekend!

:banana::banana: Mommy McQ!! That's awesome. Isn't it a great feeling to be able to run?! I used to be the same way- I didn't do C25K but it probably would have really helped me out. In no time you'll be running 3 miles ;) And SNOW? In MAY? I don't know how you deal.

So yesterday we had firehouse sandwiches at work and I did end up eating the whole thing :headache: I had the sandwich, chips and cookie. Argh. I was up 0.8 lbs today too. So today we're having chick fil a box lunches at work. I just looked up the nutritional information and OMG!!!!! 430 cal for the sandwich (it's JUST chicken!), 360 for the brownie and like 400 for the cole slaw plus probably like 200 for chips?! HOLY COW  So I'm going to REALLY try to have the yogurt I have in the fridge and eat just the sandwich. I'm the one "giving" the lunch to our guys for doing a good job so I do have to eat with them- I can't just bail. But wow I can't believe the amt of calories in all that :scared: [sidenote: I have to do this Mon, Wed and Fri of next week too!!]

I ran yesterday with a friend- only 2.6 miles, it was 95 out and I just am not used to the heat yet. Also it was day 1 of "my friend" so I was NOT feeling well. Today is body pump and I'm going to try to run two miles after it. Tomorrow we're going out on a boat with friends and have to leave before 9am so I'm going to try really hard to get up early and run 2.5 miles. I've got the race in 3 weeks, and a wedding to go to in Florida in 4!!

I hope everyone has a good weekend!! :dance3:

when you start running over 15 or so miles a week and doing strength training and cross training your body for sure needs more calories, esp for fuel for longer runs. If I were you I wouldn't go below 1600 if you are working out hard. You will end up doing more harm than good! Just make sure you are making good choices with your calories....lots of fruit, whole grains, veggies, not a lot of processed/refined stuff and you will be good/fuller longer

hope you had a fabulous mother's day -- i know i did! my DH and DDs spoiled me all day..my oldest cooked all 3 meals as her gift and did a fantastic job! my youngest gave me a "spa day" -- bubble bath, mani, pedi and back massage. just had to brag up...:rolleyes1

I had thought about posting over the weekend but I had nothing to report - my weekend was a complete bust! Not that I ate that bad, but I was sick and misreable!!!

Friday night we grabbed a bite to eat out (fast food) but I was at 1550 calories for the day so that was okay. I knew my cold was coming but it didn't hit me until Saturday, and I also had tummy problems with it, so I didn't eat a real lot on Saturday, about a sleeve of saltines over the cource of the day  Ugh. Sunday I was starting to feel better, ate a pancake for breakfast and we got subs (and fries) for lunch, which I ate half for lunch, half for dinner. By last night I was feeling up to taking a walk so I did, it went okay but I was definitely a bit more tired, but I managed to get my running intervals in. My last run was Thursday and I didn't want to have more than 3 days inbetween, last time I skipped 3 days it was really hard for me to get back at it, felt like I was starting over. Last night we watched a movie and I had popcorn and I was at 1550 calories for the day. So not a terrible weekend but not great either.

I weighed this morning and up 1 pound, which I expected and think is water, I drank a TON last night after my walk and then ate salty popcorn. :headache: I'm not too worried about it, but still still not great to see. It is looking like I'll need to take another walk tonight, they are calling for bad weather the next few days. I'm excited but very nervous - I only have 1 more walk with running intervals - then it is straight 25 min runs - which increase to 28 and 30 min over the next 2 weeks! I can't believe I've made it this far and also can't believe that I'll be running 25 minutes in just a couple of days!

I actually spent some time this weekend looking for upcoming 5K's in my area - I found a couple, but I don't know if I should sign up for one?? I think once I know that I can make the 30 minutes I'd probably sign up for one, but I'm really nervous about it - I think the idea of doing it alone is worrying me. I know it shouldn't, I've done all my runs alone, but I guess since I've never done one I just don't know what to expect, what I'm supposed to do, etc. Any advice? Do a lot of people run these alone?

Sounds like you did good with effort again MMQ, even if you didn't see the scale go down at all. As for running 5K's, I'm with you. I was really nervous my first race (which was an 8K) and I was running with people. The first 5K I ran with DBF but he runs much faster than I do, so I was alone the whole run. I think as long as there's someone cheering me on I'd be fine running alone. If you have any questions you can just ask. Usually the small 5K's aren't intimidating (ours was only 150 people). You just clip on your bib, then usually have a D tag on your shoe to count time. I say go for it but have a friend come cheer you on :)

Yesterday I ran 5 miles for the first time since the 8K in March and I did really well! I was just a few seconds/min slower than my 8K pace. My normal pace is 11 min/mile and I ran it in 10:43/mile! My right foot hurts a little but other than that I'm ok.

Gained this weekend again but not a ton. I'm still just hovering at my same weight since I started this thing. Ugh. But I'm toning up and getting better running distances so that's a positive! :goodvibes

Thanks you guys - I know it probably sounded like a strange question - of course people run alone! :rotfl: I guess it's not so much the running alone, more of knowing what I'm supposed to do, where to go, where to get in line, what time to get there, what time to get in the area to start, how/where to warm up, etc....all of the "unknowns" when you've never done it before. I'm sure once I do it one time I'll be more comfortable!

I did find one on July 10 that I'm going to sign up for. I actually emailed a friend of mine about doing it together, she ran a 5k last weekend, she is not an avid runner but does this one particular race every year. So, if she wants to we'll do it together, otherwise I'll do it on my own! I'm still trying to find one in early June once I finish the C25K, but I'm not finding much in my area, there is one about 45 minutes away I could do. I'm sure my DH would come out to cheer me on and probably even bring the kids to wait for me at the finish line...so that would be nice having them there.

This week hasn't been my best - good run Monday night but yeserday all I wanted to do was eat. All.Day.Long. That's all I thought about, could not get my brain off food. It was rainy and cold and windy and I just wanted to eat. Today hasn't been quite as bad, and am planning to run my first 25 min run later this afternoon. I'll wait until Friday to weigh myself...not expecting a great week though. Hope everyone is having a good week!!

ETA - made it through the 25 min run tonight!! I should probaby call it a 25 min jog though... I was pretty slow! But I made it! My first mile was 10:35 and then my tracker showed that I went 2.23 miles in the 25 min, second mile was much slower and I consciously made myself slow down considerably after I hit the 1 mile mark. I thought that was pretty good for a first time...now I can work to improve that distance for the next week, have all 25 min jogs coming up. Definitely a bit sore tonight - icing the shins right now!

MMQ~ congrats on deciding to do the 5K! I love races but have only done two- and my next is coming up two weeks from tomorrow! :scared1:

My training has actually been going very well. I'm "in the zone" and pretty diligent about it. I ran 3 miles with a friend yesterday and plan on doing a mile or two after my strength class tonight, and running tomorrow morning too. Monday will be my 6 mile day... the farthest I've EVER run! :)

I'm down to the lowest number I've seen in a while (but it's only 0.6lbs below it). I'm hoping that's a sign things are starting to kick into gear again? I've been at the same weight for what seems like forever. I am upping my distances though and am hoping to get to 15-18 mi/week. This week will be around 12 or 13 I think.

Goodluck this weekend everyone!

Thanks Karen - I'm really looking forward to it! Great job on your training and congrats on the weight loss! Every little bit counts!! Good luck on the 6 miles - that is huge!!

My week was just okay - I weighed in today and was happy to see I didn't gain. I'm the same as last Friday, which I'm actually happy to see. I was not as diligent on my tracking this week as I usually am, and we went out to dinner last night. So I was relieved to see that I didn't gain (actually moved the scale and weighted myself 3 times to be sure it was right!)

Hoping to get out for W7D1 jog tonight - it is just so horribly windy here again. It always is and I know this, but today it is especially windy, my neighbors flag is straight out and blowing! So it'll be an interesting one, hoping it dies down a bit by this afternoon. I have been kind of slacking these last 2 weeks and only doing my C25K runs 3x/week and not really incorporating any other exercise into my week...so I need to start doing some form of exercise off my off days - get a new Wii workout or an exercise DVD...something. I've heard/read good things about Biggest Loser Wii or Jillians 30 Day Shred DVD? Anyone recommend anything else??? Thanks!

whew...i made it ;) Cleveland 1/2 marathon today, time 3:02 which is alrighty by me. i haven't plugged my Garmin in for pace yet b/c the mileage was off at the first mile and it took to the finish and still wasn't quite caught up. i've never had this happen before but after mile 1 it was pretty consistent so i used to pace my miles, i was getting anywhere from 13:33 to 14:17....

not tomorrow, but Tuesday I'm starting the 30 day program of Jillians, Making the Cut. a co-worker and I have commited to the workouts together and i'm counting on you guys to keep me accountable for my diet! yes, that's right...I NEED YOU!:thumbsup2

Great job on the half marathon OhMom! :thumbsup2 Very inspiring!!

I had a pretty good weekend, finished up week 7 of C25K. Had great jogs on Friday and Sunday, anxious to start week 8 tomorrow. I also started Jillians 30 Day Shred DVD on Saturday and I am SORE!! I was pretty sore going into yesterdays jog - but it went really well once I got going and I didn't really notice how sore my legs were. Yesterday was my best run ever...made the 25 minutes with no problem (2.27 miles), I walked a few minutes then slowly jogged the rest of the way home - another 17 minutes.

Weighed in this morning - no loss, but I did eat a lot on Saturday, and was over calories a little yesterday too. I'm really anxious to finish up the C25K program next week - need to figure out what I'll do next - I was thinking about training for a 10K? :scared1: I really like having a program to follow (found some 10K training programs online) - I like having that goal out there, I find it very motivating. There is a 10K in my area that I'd have about 8 weeks to train for. Could be doable...

I get there about 30 min early, get my packet, pin on my bib, and go to the bathroom. then about 7 mintues early I do some warm up jogging and light stretching. then they should tell you where to go/get in position to start. dont warm up too much but you also don't want want to go into it cold. a 5k is such a short race there is no time to "warm up" in the first mile, then the race is almost half over haha! GL!

Thanks for the info Heather! Love your blog, by the way! Loved reading about your first races and half at Disney! My warmup now has just been 4-5 min of walking and a few stretches before starting to run.

I signed up for my first 5K on June 5th! :goodvibes I'm so excited I can hardly stand it! Running it alone but DH is coming and will bring the kids, they'll wait for me at the finish line. :)

Heading out this afternoon for W8 of C25K - a 28 minute run, I'm sure I'll run a little extra again after that ;). Did Jillian's Shred DVD again yesterday but was still sore from the first workout on Saturday so I did some "modified" (okay...easy) versions of the exercises...but I still did it. Feel good today - soreness is way down and feeling great, can't wait to run tonight.
Made the mistake of weighing myself this morning - up 1.5 pounds...WHAT??? Ugh...

Even though I'm a bit late, can I join? I need better accountability!

Baby #3 is 13 months and I lost all the weight by running, but I still have about 7-8 pounds from Baby #2! I've been running about 20 miles a week and biking about 40 minutes a week. I love my runs and want to keep the 20 miles, possibly adding more miles, but I need something new to kick start the weight loss again. Any suggestions? I could use some good strength training ideas as I'm sure that would help.

Thanks!

It's been a pretty good week! I didn't gain over the weekend although I did eat a little bad. Monday and Tuesday we had training at work, which means they bring in food for us :headache: To keep myself awake I pretty much ate the whole lunch they gave us both days. But yesterday I ran an entire 10K with my friend!!! We went the full 6.22 miles, and did it in 1:11. So now I know for sure I can definitely hit my 1:10 goal on the 29th. I'm feeling alright today but a little sore. We talked through the entire thing and I wasn't even that out of breath at the end so I know I can do this! I felt great other than my hips and knees bothering me a little (typical for me- much better than it's been in the past since I got my new shoes). They're fine today though. :)

I'm up 0.4lbs today but I'm assuming that's because I have been really bad on drinking water the last two days in training.

Congrats OhMom on the half marathon!! Awesome job! :thumbsup2

Hope everyone had a good week!

Friday = Weigh-In day here, and today is a good day! Down another 1 pound, which brings my total loss to 15 pounds! 9 more to go! Yeah! Single Digit Dance!!!

What a week it has been - like a roller coaster. Had my WORST EVER run on Tuesday, then BEST EVER run last night. Tuesday was hot, sunny, I didn't drink enough and legs were tired from the strength training the day before - I somehow plodded though the 28 min run but I was just spent when I got done - had to walk home the 2 miles that I usually jog, I just could not run another step!

Then last night was great! I waited until 7pm to run (hot and sunny again) and although warm, I drank lots before I went and ran all 28 minutes easily (I wanted to keep going but forced myself to stop and walk 2 minutes) and killed my 2 and 3 mile times! Was 45 seconds faster at mile 2 and 1.5 min faster at mile 3. Jogged the last mile home as well...finished 4 miles in under 44 minutes - maybe my tracking is off because that seems way too fast for me. :confused3 11 min. miles consistently? Is that even possible for a beginner?

Starting Week 9, all 30 min runs. 3 more runs until I finish C25K! :cool1: hmmmm...I think I deserve a graduation present!!!

Thanks so much for the welcome!

I guess now it's time to be held accountable. It was a good week. Biked Monday and ran Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Saturday I finally bought a new pair of running shoes and broke them in by running 4 1/2 miles, the last 1/2 mile and cool down in the rain.

Now if I could just kick my dark chocolate habit, I think I might actually break through my plateau and lose this stubborn weight.

I love reading about everyone's successes. It's inspiring!

Thanks ohMom! For me it seems like the progress has been painfully slow - I lose about 3 pounds a month, but it is still progress!

Had a H.O.T. run last night. Went at 7:30pm and it was still 84 degrees here. I ran the 30 minutes and was just dying... never realized that sweat could drip into my eyes like that!!! My mile times were decent, about where I've been, but I was compeltely exhausted after that, tried to jog a little bit home but only made 2 minutes and I had to stop....sad. Hopped on the scale this morning and its the same, so no gain over the weekend which is good, since we camped and I did eat more than I should have. Gotta do good this week - want that scale down another pound!!!

Thanks so much for the welcome!

Hi Carrie! Welcome! Great job on your running! That is impressive!

I hear you about the chocolate! Snacking in general is my weakness...

Do you track your calories? Tracking everything has been a huge help for me. When I started dieting in Jan. I tracked everything, did it for about 2 months and had decent weight loss. Then I thought I had a pretty good handle on what/how much to eat so I stopped tracking, but kept exercising, but after a month had not lost anything! So I started tracking again, and started losing again. I had been eating too much even thought I thought I was doing okay adding the calories in my head instead of on paper! I do allow myself occasional treats and snacks, but I have to account for the calories - so if I REALLY want that cholcolate I have it, knowing that it means a tiny meal later on. Good luck!!

been a bit for me, glad i have moment to catch up

i started Jillian's Making the Cut program last week with a co-worker. we have been meeting to workout and it helps tremendously. last week got all 4 workouts done and have planned out my 4 for this week. today being #2. memorial day weekend complicates it since our gym is closed sat/mon.

i haven't weighed myself yet, i expect a small change but the reality is that I still have couple inches around my gut before my pants/shorts button easily

i have been working on the snacking too -- nothing after dinner. last night allmost caved but realized it was 9 p.m. and just got ready for bed instead. yesterday afternoon while scrapbooking I thought i'll have just 2 mini-candy pieces. i did, and ate them slowly and within 30 mins my stomach was grumbling and upset. wow. before i'd just chug 6, 8, 10 of those down one right after another and figured the quantity was upsetting my stomach. i guess it's a good sign that my belly doesn't appreciate a big sugar rush

carrie -- i agree with MMQ, incorporate some dark chocolate in every now and then so you don't feel deprived. unless you mean temporarily. for me, if i decide to 'give up' something it feels indefinate and then i end up binging on it. ugh

I've been doing well this week, weekend was a slip on eating and drinking was at a minimum (I think i had a drink Friday and two beers Saturday with dinner). I saw a gain and was overall feeling UGH on Monday morning :sad2:

Yesterday I went to the doctor for my yearly checkup. I'm 1 lb lower than what I was last year at this time (and I thought it interesting: 5lb higher than before I met my DBF :lmao:). Although that's a big positive for me since I've gained so much muscle since then.

The doctor asked if I had any questions/concerns and I mentioned I'd like to lose about 10lbs but am having a really hard time with it. I get mixed messages from people about eating, what to do about running, etc. He mentioned a weight that's 15lbs lighter than me as the average for my height  but was surprised to see I weighed so much when he looked at my weight. He said I am muscular so that would make a difference. Pretty much our bodies are very efficient and will work with what we have- I'm not going to lose weight by exercising- that's to increase bone strength and overall health and mental state. I'll only lose by cutting calories and I shouldn't be worried about dropping to 1200 calories if I want to. I have noticed gains if I get to about 1600 so I am thinking I do need to be strict for a while to get rid of these lbs.

On that note... Memorial Day weekend is coming up so I'm a little :scared1: about the eating/drinking that will go on! I've got my 10K coming up on Saturday though so I'm very psyched about that

Awesome article on running and preventing injury!! I thought of you all when I read it: http://www.active.com/running/Articles/How_to_Run_Injury-Free.htm

I especially found the walking part interesting.

Congrats Oh Mom on resisting the snacks!! and on getting all your workouts in! :thumbsup2

Thank Karen for the link to the article - I found it very interesting! Nice that you were able to meet with the doc and talk about your weight loss goals, and know what direction you need to go in. Good luck on your 10K this weekend - sure you'll do great! :cheer2:

After reading that article I'm a bit torn on what I should do after tomorrow, my last C25K run. I found 2 programs online that I like for training for a 10K, one with 1 min walk intervals built in, one that is all straight running. I was leaning toward the latter program since I don't love the walking intervals - I feel very clumsy and off pace when I start running again, takes me several minutes to get back in a groove and feel like I have a proper stride, even though it is nice to catch your breath a bit for that minute, and sounds like it could be good for the muscles as well. Not sure which I'll do, but I definitely want to have something to follow to keep me on track!

I too am worried about Memorial Weekend. This is where I typically fall off the wagon each year. We'll be camping with friends and lots of food and drink around. But I'm bringing my running shoes and I've already mapped out a route I can run on Saturday morning, and I will walk with a friend on Sunday morning, and plan to run Monday night when we get home. My friend is also losing weight so that will help a lot since we'll do some meals together. So if I can keep my eating under decent control I'll be okay. :goodvibes What I'm dreading most is taking the kids to the beach though....have to pull out the old swimming suit. I know it fits much better now than it did last year....but still not looking forward to it!

Hey, this group is an excellent idea! Can I play, too? 10 lbs of 'relationship weight' snuck up and attacked while I wasn't paying attention. I blame my BF. Ok, not exactly him, but the pizza we tend to default to almost every weekend for the last year or so. And my slacking on strength training. And the fact the days I'm supposed to be cross-training, I tend to be sitting on my lazy behind doing nothing. :rolleyes1

So anyways, it's time to stop the bad habits and get those pounds off. I was on the too-skinny side before, so my goal is 5-8 lbs. Been doing pretty good the last 2 or 3 weeks and am down about 1.5 lbs. Just gotta keep it up! Being able to check in with a group should help my motivation:)

MommyMcQueen - I think at this point I really do need to track my calories if I'm going to lose anything else. My problem is there is so much information and I have no idea where to start and what to do. Any suggestions? Also, I'm like you with walk intervals. My legs feel like jello and it takes too long to get back into a groove. I have to go with straight running. Good luck finding a program that works for you!

As for the chocolate, I usually have about three small pieces (Hershey kiss size) every few days, but lately the sugar has been flowing through our house. It's the end of school and in Hawaii that means candy leis all over the place. No wonder my city ranks 2nd in obesity and diabetes for all of Hawaii! Now I just need DH to toss it all out (he has more self control than me) and start counting calories and I think I'm good to go.

OhMom - how are you liking Jillian's program? I've been wanting to switch around my workouts so I'm not mostly running with a little bit of biking.

Those doing a 10K, I'm in awe and good luck!

:welcome: kohole!

well i fell off the food wagon yesterday...gotta get right back on today.

SB-- i do like this program. in fact, this is our 2nd time following it, we did once last year. last time i idid not even try to follow the eating. this time I followed (making modifications to what i had) but this week not as strictly. the workouts are intense, not for a beginner. it's 5 circuits that combine strength training and one minute hard cardio. most circuits i can tell my heartrate is really up there after that 1 minute. it alternates muscle groups by "push" and "pull" groups with 2 days rest inbetween. so mainly it's front and back. it's 4 days a week. she suggests running each circuit twice, we have still not got to that point. first 2 times through we did them once and workouts ranged from 40-60 mins

have a great day everyone!

Thanks for the nice welcome :) glad to be here. I almost talked myself out of my workout today, but got it done anyway. Yay me!:cheer2:

I've been skimming through some previous posts and see that there are some fellow sweet- and choco-holics here, so I'm in good company! When I'm getting that craving, I like putting about 1 tablespoon of Nutella in a little condiment bowl and dipping strawberries in it. Usually lasts for 5 or 6 good-sized strawberries. Helps satisfy the craving while still being semi-healthy. Pretty filling, too.

Aww  I'm sorry (and I know the feeling). The only thing I can really say is don't let it get you down. I haven't been moving at all over the past few months but I've gained a lot of muscle and toned up so that's my only real savior right now to keep me at this!

Tomorrow is the 10K!! I'm starting to get nervous :scared1: I did a very light 2 miles yesterday and feel about as good as I think is possible so I have that going for me. I am getting nervous about what to eat beforehand because this is only my third race ever. When I run normally it's at the end of the day when I have been eating/drinking water all day.

The forecast is showing 68 and 50% chance of rain at 6am. As long as it's not pouring I think we'll be ok. Anyone have a Garmin? I'm planning on wearing mine but haven't worn it in the rain yet!

I actually have a spreadsheet that every day I log my food into - it then tallies how much I 've eaten and how many calories I have left for the day. I do find it helpful. When I log in my breakfast I usually also add what I'll be having for lunch if I know, then I know about what I can have for dinner, and when I'm thinking about what to make for dinner during the day, I can kind of plan how much/what I can have knowing how many calories I have left.

I do measure most everything for serivng sizes (cereal, milk, etc) but I don't have a food scale, so meat and things based on weight is more of an estimate for me based off the package. When I make large dishes like a casserole or lasagna or something, I add all of the ingredients when I'm making it then divide by 12 (12 servings in the pan). Most of the info I use comes off the packaging, but I do also have a calorie guide book that is helpful - especially for fruit, veggies, bakery breads items and things that don't have the nutritional info on them.

As far as knowing how many calories a day to eat - that can be hard to figure out. I've seen several online calorie calculators that can give an estimate based on your weight and how much you want to lose, but those have always shown quite hight for me - like 1800 cal a day. My goal is to be at 1200 cal a day, but some days I've been up to 1500 and don't beat myself up about it.

omg -- i am soooo frustrated. i have not lost a pound! i haven't weighed myself in 2-3 weeks b/c i knew i wasn't losing, but decided to this week after 2 weeks on the Jillian workout program and eating better. nada. nothing. zero. in fact i'm up one pound than i had been weighing consistently this spring..

I'm sorry OhMom - I know how frustrating it can be. I've had many weeks where I felt like I was just killing myself working out and eating so good and would have no loss. It stinks but just hang in here! I had several weeks with no loss, but I could tell I had improvements in other areas - increased strength, stamina, etc. So you are making progress, it's just not on the scale.

Oh I forgot to report that I did weigh in today, down 1 pound...happy about that. I did have a good week - ran 3 times (instead of my usual 2) and did 30 Day Shred twice this week. Last night I did my last run of C25K! It was a great run - had my best 1M time of 10:05 (oooh so close to under a 10mm), did the full 5K in 33:10. So excited to have finished it - I really never thought I would make it all the way through. (I did a longer write up in my PTR if anyone is interested, won't write it all here.)

Good Luck Karen! I'm sure you'll do great! I've been going in the afternoon/evening too, so I too worry about running in the morning. I'll be out running tomorrow morning too, as a "practice" run for my first 5K next weekend, so I'll be thinking of you!

I would like to join the group if it's ok. Right now, I'd like to lose about 8 pounds to get me to 110. I'm only 5'1, so every little bit shows on me. I had actually gotten a little lower than that before DH and I went to Disney in January 2009, but it's just crept back up since then.

I haven't been doing much of anything as far as exercising, which is one of the things I'd really like to change. I'm a stay at home mom, so hopefully the girls and I will be able to get out and do somethings that will keep me from sitting at home and snacking. I'd really like to try to do the couch to 5k program, but, to be honest, I've never been a runner, and I feel silly doing it.

Don't feel silly!! I've never been a runner (I was that kid in gym class that couldn't run a 12 minute mile to save her life) and now I run all the time. Albeit not fast, but I've vastly improved over the last few months. In the past I couldn't even run half a mile let alone 6 (which I ran last week!).

The C25K program is just for people like you! Seriously, try it out :)

Hi DisneyMom1980! Weclome!

I TOTALLY have to agree with Karen! Don't feel silly and don't worry about what anyone thinks!

Since the last 9 weeks of my life have practically revolved around the C25K, I can tell you have in the beginning I had serious doubts that I could do it. I was scared. I was nervous. I was worried that I'd feel like a complete failure for not being able to even run 60 little seconds the first week. I did a lot of reading on it before I started it, and read many stories that inspired me and really made be believe in the program. Its a great program and it does work. It's not always easy but it's managable, and after the first day I couldn't wait to get out and do more.

I've "never been a runner" before either...but now I'm hooked and love it. All thanks to the C25K!

I need some support. 5 years of marriage 2 amazing girls and 10 pounds later.

We're going to Idaho for our annual family vacation over the 4th of July and I'm totally dreading getting into a swimsuit. My sister in law will be there, she looks better then me and she just had a baby 5 months ago.:sad2:

I have made some small changes to my diet to include more fruit, hate veggies, but trying to choke them down at least once a day, switched to whole wheat and all ready drinking skim

I have been going for walks on my break at work and riding the bike at home for 20 minutes about 4 times a week and I haven't seen any improvement. What next?

I don't want to join a gym because I feel guilty as it is being away from the family all day while I'm working and in the evenings when I'm at school.

Any magic tricks anyones knows of?

Is it too much to ask for my thighs not to rub together?

Thanks for the welcome ladies........that's exactly why I need a group like this. As a stay at home mom, I often don't get a lot of interaction with other adults, and I think that has a negative impact on my eating, especially when I'm sitting around the house bored.

I'm going to start working with the Wii today (Wii Fit and EA Active), and I hope to start working on the couch to 5K as soon as my mom can help me alter the arm band I got for my ipod. As ridiculous as this sounds, I couldn't find an armband small enough to stay on my arm! I would love to run the 1/2 marathon at Disney some day, but considering the fact that the farthest distance I've ever run without stopping is a 1/4 of a mile, that seems like a VERY distant goal.

Ok... Memorial day weekend OVER. How did everyone do?? I can say I did NOT do well with my eating. I didn't shove my face but I definitely didn't hold back much. I'm up another 4lbs this morning but I know that it's mostly water weight. I've got until Thursday when we leave to drive to Florida to be really good, and then I'm going to put as much effort forth as I can to be relatively good on vacation but who knows.

My 10K went really well!! I was kinda bummed because the mat that you run over to start was acting up so they took the gun time rather than personal start time. And I had no idea where the start actually was since I was back in the pack a little ways - so garmin clocked me at 6.35 miles instead of 6.22. When Garmin hit 6.22 miles I looked at my time and it was 1:06:30 so it was 3:30 better than my goal!! My end time was actually 1:08 something because of that start issue. Oh well- I still beat my goal and I felt amazing after. No soreness or anything. Such a difference training can make!! :cool1: My average was 10:42 min miles, which was right about where I was in training. I felt like I could have pushed myself more but I was running with two other girls so I didn't want to leave them, and it was really really hot and humid out.

After the race was pizza and beer (1 slice and 3 beers) and then we went to the beach with friends and had some drinks and food on the beach and a bbq after. Same kinda thing for Sunday. I haven't worked out since the run on Saturday but plan on doing Body Pump tonight and a 4 mile run tomorrow before leaving for vacation. I'm debating what to do about vacation - if I should try to run some or not. I'd like to just to keep some sort of normalcy. What do you guys think? Is it crazy??

I hope everyone had a great weekend!

Hi Karen! Congrats on your run! So glad it went well! Sorry the timing devices were not working, but great that you beat your goal!!:thumbsup2

My weekend was similar to yours...while I didn't completely pig out - I did eat and allow myself to snack some, but I thought I did pretty well over all. My downfall was my favorite salad (and not a healthy salad) that I only make on holiday weekends or for potlucks. I did make it healthier by only using 1/2 of the oil the recipe called for, but it's still so bad! I am up 2 pounds today...which isn't completely horrible. Hope I can have that gone by Friday and be back to where I was last Friday.

I had a good weekend exercising though - Friday before we left for camping I did the 30 Day Shred. Saturday morning I got up and ran 45 minutes on the country road by our campground - it was an okay run - half of the route was shaded and nice, other half was hot, sunny and gravel road. I really wanted to quit a couple of times but I stopped twice to stretch and kept pushing through, and made myself run a couple extra minutes to make up for my little breaks. Sunday morning I walked 2.5 miles with a friend, and Monday morning after we got home and I went out to run 30 minutes. It was overcast and a cool/damp 65 degrees...10 minutes into the run the overcast cleared and sun came out and the humidity skyrocketed and I was dying! But I made it through. My morning runs are not anywhere near as good (or enjoyable) as my evenings, I feel like I'm just trudging along, and I don't enjoy it at all, my energy level is just not there. Looking forward to running tonight though...starting my new 10K training program this week - YEA!

Karen - I would try to run some on your vacation if you can and want to...I don't think it's crazy at all. I know I'm trying to figure out what days and where I can run when we're at Disney in August - so I think it's great that you want to run while on vacation. Even if its just a couple short ones - it won't be so hard to get back into it when you get back. Have a great vacation!!

I too had a "holiday" weekend of eating. Not the worse I've done, but I could have done better! Why does it seem like whenever the weekend comes around I lose ALL self-control?! Oh well, hopefully I'll be bathing suit ready by the middle of summer (my new goal is now 4th of July  ) It was nice to get compliments from people I hadn't seen in a while on my losing weight, though I've avoided stepping on a scale. :rolleyes1

hi guys
I haven't been on in a while....been doing pretty well the past few weeks eating-wise; I lost 2.2 lbs last week. I started a class that has taken pretty much all my free time so what I realized with all the school work I've been doing, is that I eat when I'm bored. (well, really not a newsflash but it was eye opening none the less )

I've been so busy studying that some days I haven't used all my daily WW points and haven't even been hungry.

I'm on week 6 of the Couch to 5K plan and my knee is a little sore today for some reason but has otherwise been good!

congrats Karen on your run! I hope to be able to actually complete a run like that someday! I would love to be able to do one of the Disney runs one day also.

I've noticed now that I'm weighing myself more often that instead of just slowly and steadily creeping down, my weight will hold steady for a week or so, then jump down (or, occaisonally, up.) 1-1.5 lbs literally overnight. :confused3 Does this happen to anyone else? Or do you think it's my scale? I admit it's not the most reliable thing. I can weigh myself, then move the thing 2 inches and it will give me a completely different reading.

scales are unfortunately so finicky! I try and weigh myself a couple times in a row and if i keep getting two diff numbers I sometimes just average the two.

tings kind of go back to "normal" tomorrow so I am hoping to start with a run in the morning!

I am REALLY bad about weighing myself and do it every day. Some days I even tell myself that I'm not going to, but I end up doing it anyway because it makes me crazy. It has become my routine in the morning to get up, go to the bathroom, and weigh myself. Honestly, I wish it was a habit I could break because a lot of the time it just sets me up to be depressed for the day.

Today I started the 6 week program on the EA Active more workouts. I've never even made it through the 30 day challenge on the original EA Active, but it is my goal to actually do it this time.

I used to weigh all the time too and I had to stop....it also was making me crazy and when the number wasn't where I thought it should be, I'd end up depressed, Or if the number was good, I'd use that as an excuse to splurge some and of course the weight went right back up.:headache: I only weigh now at my WW meeting once a week

I totally am with you there. I weigh myself everyday for the most part (not on the weekends). When I'm much lower I end up sabatoging myself because I think I subconsciously tell myself "oh well I was down today I can allow myself this little treat." Of course all that does is keep me the same place.

Where I worry about stopping is that I fluctuate soooo much. I can go up and down 4 lbs in one day. Like yesterday morning I weighed myself, and this morning I weighed myself. I was up 4.5lbs after the weekend, now I'm down 3.4 from where I was yesterday  Also when I have a bad weigh day I'm more careful about what I eat. I'm afraid I'll be like "oh well I don't have to weigh myself until next Thursday- I can splurge today and be good tomorrow."

I just got back from my meeting and I lost 2.2 lbs again! I am 1 pound away from my goal..this weekend will be a challenge though because we have wedding to go to. I am hoping to stay in control and not go overboard.

DH may not be able to make it home from his business trip in time to get to the wedding, I guess that will work to my advantage though because then I will have to stay sober enough to drive myself home...that should help me stay on track:laughing:

cepmom that is AWESOME!!

:welcome: to our 2 newcomers! yay!!

this is crazy week for me -- my DD graduates (:scared1:) Sat and party here on Sun

with that said...i have been faithful to my workouts on the Making the Cut plan. sadly though I haven't lost any weight. the only thing keeping me going is i can see slight difference in my upper legs and middle.

MomtoO&E -- you already know the answer, no magic trick :wizard: Try V8 light drinks, there is an Acai berry blend that is quite good. keep trying those veggies, your tastes may change. maybe prepared a different way? could you add in some cardio exercise, but doing it at home? there are some great DVDs and Wii games.....also Exercise TV on Demand

my eating over the weekend sounds about like everyone else, somewhere inthe middle.

i hardly ever weigh myself anymore, i can tell by the way my clothes fit how i'm doing. i guess my Mom is a habitual weigh-in-er and the numbers games she puts herself through make me too tired

i'm here in spirit girls!

I stay more motivated with daily weigh-ins, so I'll be doing that for a few weeks 'til I'm back in the habit of making better food/exercise decisions. After that I'll go back to once or twice a week.
I have been weighing myself multiple times, trying to figure out how much I actually weigh on my less-than-reliable scale. This morning I got readings that varied more than 5 lbs  I'm about ready to pitch the thing off my balcony and see how far it can fly. After moving it around to find the most level place on my floor, it seemed to settle on a weight, so I'm going with that today. We shall see what tomorrow brings. Possibly pieces of broken scale in my apartment's parking lot.
At least I'm starting to notice some good changes in my abs and arms now that I've been sticking to my strength training for a couple weeks. Hope everyone's having a good Wednesday. Halfway to the weekend!

Ok so I'm down to where I was before Memorial Day weekend. Figures :)

We leave tonight after work to drive to Savannah and then Florida so no more posts for me for about 10 days! I NEED a vacation :banana::banana:

I've picked out some restaurants in Destin (I think a bunch were recommended by you guys on this thread!). We're hoping to go to McGuire's Irish Pub, The Lighthouse Restaurant (half price dinners 4:30-8!) and the Back Porch Restaurant. Also probably a stop for bfast at the Donut hole and maybe some takeout from Sarah K's. I'm so excited!! Please keep your fingers crossed for us that the oil spill stays away at least until we leave!!! I'm so worried about it.

I've got running stuff packed so I'm hoping to get in 2-3 runs this week. I'm also going to try to not eat tooooo bad while we're there.

I did a 3 mile run yesterday and felt great (although it was HOT and humid) and I ate pretty well this week. Have a great 10 days everyone! :sunny:

I just had a baby 4 months ago and I did lose most of the weight but would still like to lose 5 lbs. The bigger issue for me is to trim and tone. It is summer now, we are going to Disney late July, and I hate the way my summer clothes are fitting me at this point. I never realized how hard it could be to get tone after a baby.

I am back to work and so far I have been walking every day at lunch. I try to do 100 crunches every other night. This depends on dear son's needs for the evening. LOL. But I know that I need to do more. I would like to tone my stomach, sides/waist, and upper legs/thighs. Any suggestions or advice is welcome.

Happy to have this group for support, thanks for listening! :goodvibes

I am in the same boat as you. My DD just turned 5 months and I am struggling with this also. I am back a my prepregnancy weight but I still can lose 10 pounds but it's the lose skin that is driving me a bit nuts. I am doing crunches every other day also, and on the other days I do a mix of push ups and lunges- i have just started this. I also now try to do squats holding my DD (the extra 16 pounds is great) and i do a lot of over head presss with her. Each of these things are done when ever. I need more struture with it though.

Happy Friday! I hope everyone had a good week! I'm pretty excited today - weigh-in day for me and I had a good one - down another pound! So far I've lost 17 pounds now - 7 more to my original goal of 132. It feels SO good to be in the 130's again! I can't believe it - I'm now at my lowest weight in about 8 years - I've lost/gained from 140-150, but never gotten below 140...so I am feeling so great today!:goodvibes

Had a good week of workouts:
Monday: ran 3 miles
Tuesday: did 30 Day Shred DVD and ran 2 miles of speed intervals, then walked 2 miles
Wednesday: off
Thursday: 4 mile run (first time and I made it all the way through - felt like I could keep going)
Friday: today will be an off day - rest for tomorrow
Saturday: 5K run!!

I did somehow hurt my neck this week - and I think I did it doing crunches on Tuesday - since then the right/back side of my neck has been sore, also the right shoulder a bit. Feels like a bit of a pinched nerve or something. I am horrible at doing crunches and situps and I always try so hard NOT to pull on my neck or pull up with my head, but seem to always somehow still do it. It's not a bad pain unless I look to the left, then it is sore/tight, I can't hardly turn my head to the left. I'll try to do some heat or ice on it today, maybe that will help.

So tomorrow morning is my first 5K! They are calling for rain tonight and into the morning - I really hope it's not raining! But we'll see...I'll be up and out the door by about 6:45am to get there by 7:30, race starts at 8:00am. Temps look to be cool - low to mid 60's, so at least it won't be hot and sunny! I run much better in the cool. I'll report back when it's done!

Hope everyone had a good week!

Congrats MommyMcqueen! :woohoo: All that hard work is paying off!

Side note: For injuries like neck strain, ice is the better choice for the first 24 hours. Not as pleasant as heat, but it stops inflammation for faster healing. Heat might make it feel better temporarily for a few minutes, but in the early stages can do more harm than good. After the first day or so, if it's still bugging ya, then it's time to bust out the heating pad. I'm a massage therapist, so I hear about sore necks pretty frequently :)

I think I'm down another pound this week, but with my @$!%@ scale I don't know for sure. For a more reliable test I tried on my shorts from last summer. I had taken them on a vacation in April, only to find they no longer fit when I tried to put them on.:sad1: I had been in denial about gaining weight til that moment. I can definitely see improvement! They're still pretty snug, but 2-3 more weeks should do it!

I just got back from the 5K and it was really good and really fun! I was super nervous but everything went fine, checked in and got my chip and stuff. We had about 20 minutes so I went to the bathroom and we took a few pictures. I warmed up and stretched a bit, and got in line about 5 minutes before the start, and just waited.

The run itself was good - no real hills and mostly through a neighborhood then down the main street and back to the fair grounds where it started and ended. I did find myself running quite a bit faster, made the first mile at 9:30, then mile 2 was 19:55, and I finished the 5K at 31:38 (chip time). So I was really happy with that, about a minute faster that I've run it here at home on my runs! I was 201 out of 492 run/walkers. All in all it was a great experience and I'd definitely do it again! DH and the kids were a the finish line cheering me on and I got a great burst of energy there at the end and finished feeling great!

ETA - I added some pictures from the race into my PTR if anyone is interested! (page 12)

Congrats MommyMcqueen! :woohoo: All that hard work is paying off!

Thank Kolohe! Sometimes I'm not sure when to ice and when to use heat - so that helps to know that! I did ice it yesterday and it seems to be helping - took some ibuprofen too and that seems to be helping with the pain. Was stiff this morning but feeling pretty good now.

Thanks Heatherlynn! But the little kids...man, if an 8 year old can blow my be there's a problem!!! :rotfl: They did though, and I'm okay with it, I did MY best. 10 weeks ago I couldn't hardly run 60 seconds, so I'm very happy with my finish today.

Congrats on the upcoming cruise!!! I'm so jealous - DH and I dream of cruising again someday! :lovestruc Have FUN!!!

thanks, I need a vaca, I am so excited!

So I have decided to run the Jazz half in my hometown of NOLA at the end of october, and for the first time ever I am going to follow a training plan to a T and see how I do. I am HOPING the training will help me finish my toning up and droping those last few pounds! (esp since I know I will gain weight on the cruise!)

Ugh...my eating this weekend was horrible. Saturday night we went out to dinner...Texas Roadhouse...need I say more? I only had 1/2 my entree (but had bread and salad before that) and brought the other half home only to eat it for lunch on Sunday. Sunday afternoon I had a bridal shower - I had some munchies but not bad, then they had a huge dinner spread and tons of desserts, I had a brownie. Then they brought out the cake...I should have said "no, thanks" but I couldn't resist cake . I actually lay in bed last night feeling sick to my stomach from all that food...it was a horrible feeling.

I almost started to tear up this morning before stepping on the scale. I did NOT want to but I need to be accountable for my indulgence so I made myself do it. Up 2.5 pounds. So I need to kick it into gear this week and get back to where I was last Friday. I can't wait to get out and take my run tonight. My neck is feeling much better today also, was still quite sore yesterday but today feels great, so I think I can do my DVD again.

Hope everyone had a good weekend!

I feel your pain. I ws horrible this weekend too. Had the wedding Saturday and I did indulge some, had a couple of drinks and stayed up way too late. On Sunday I felt horrible all day; run down, headache etc(hungover??? I only had 2 drinks!). When I feel like that, all I do is eat. I don't know why I think it will make me feel better because it never does:confused3

anyway, today's a new day so it's back to the program. hoping my gain isn't going to be awful on Wednesday

Good job on your 5k Mommy McQueen! You would blow right past me, I think I'm going fast when I'm at 11:00/mile. I may be slow, but I get there! I'm nervous about a half marathon I'm doing this weekend. I've trained and it's not my first one, but it's at higher altitude than I'm used to. And I always get nervous before a race. :)

Add me to the list of over-indulgers this weekend. It was my birthday on Sunday. On Saturday I had pizza with my boyfriend, then he surprised me with cake and ice cream. I wasn't too worried, since I did 9 miles that morning. Then on Sunday with my family I had lots more cake (there were 5 different kinds. Of course had to have some of each) and seconds on BBQ. Self control, you may have guessed, is not my strong point. That 3 lbs it took 3 weeks to lose? 2.5 came back in 2 FREAKIN' DAYS! My evil scale was oddly consistant this morning. You know, 'cuz it's evil.

Lesson learned. Moderation is good. Binging on cake, pizza, and BBQ will have consequences.
