...and I hope it's true!

This must be one of the Great Grocery Secrets!! I never knew this, did you?..! When you go to buy bread in the grocery store, have you ever wondered which is the freshest, so you "squeeze" for freshness or softness. Did you know that bread is delivered fresh to the stores five days a week? Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Each day has a different color twist tie. They are:

Monday - Blue
Tuesday - Green
Thursday - Red
Friday - White
Saturday - Yellow

So if today was Thursday, you would want red twist tie - not white which is Friday's (almost a week old)! The colors go alphabetically by color Blue - Green - Red - White - Yellow, Monday thru Saturday. Very easy to remember. I thought this was interesting. I looked in the grocery store and the bread wrappers DO have different twist ties, and even the one with the plastic clips have different colors. You learn something new everyday!!! Enjoy fresh bread when you buy bread with the right color on the day you are shopping

That's true - and not true. Some stores do not get daily deliveries from each vendor. I worked in a store in Michigan that was every other day. Also, not all breads use twist ties. Some use the square clip tie. I always go by the date on the clip or the bag. Of course, they do still use different colors for the new batch. If you're looking at the bread, you can easily see if the stuff in the back is fresher by looking for a different color clip. That's a lot simpler than pulling all the loaves out to look at each date.

I don't think that system works around here.

It works at my Publix but the colors/days are different. They have a piece of paper hiding behind the loaves, on the wall, that has the schedule and the colors. I am VERY picky with my bread:smooth: , must be the freshest!

Folks,

DH used to be a 'Bread Man' (Sunbeam Bread) He is now a 'Cookie Man' (Entenmann's, yummy)

***********'s post is probably specific to one particular brand, but not all vendors use the same color codes, but the theory is there. For the most part, bread is delivered to grocery stores M, T, Th, Fr, Sa. The treat like stuff goes in Tues-Sat.

So...if you check the bread aisle on a Monday, and pull a loaf of your favorite brand from the waaaaaayyyyyy back, you will see the most current 'color' and you can figure out there secret code from there.
