We (DH, DD5, DS2, and me) will be staying six days/five nights at WL (still working out the dates, though), but in looking at the general flight times available, it looks like we'll be there late morning/early afternoon on the first day and not leaving until after 8:30 p.m. the last day (day 6). I have no problem with this, as I'm happy to be able to maximize my time at WDW. We plan on getting the 6 day park tickets, but I understand that you only get the dining plan for the nights you stay. That will leave us with almost a full day at the park without a meal plan. I'm not sure if we'll have many - or any - credits left.

I'd like to finish our trip out with a character breakfast somewhere and probably a late counter service lunch before we head out.

I'm wondering if Disney allows you to buy an extra day of the dining plan? Even if they do, does it just make sense to pay OOP for essentially a full day's worth of meals? DH and I are not the kind of people to split a CS meal just to stretch out CS credits - different tastes/likes and dislikes. Maybe I'll feel differently when I see the size of the CS meals, though. :)

Looking at the menus, it seems that there would be a lot more savings for us on the DDP that last day - on TS for my daughter alone covers the cost for her, and when you factor in TS and CS for DH and I, it seems like it would be cheaper to have an extra day of the DDP, if it's allowed.

And if not, is there any advice on how to stretch out a 5 day plan over 6 days?

Thanks everyone!

Unfortunately, you can't. I suppose you could add another night at the resort and then the DDP and then check out early, but I don't think that would save you any money.

I haven't had any trouble saving credits. I always have lots of snack credits left and usually some CS.

I pack some cereal and snacks for the two weeks we are there. So maybe that is why we have so many left over.

and just to be clear, if I say check out of my hotel on the morning of March 18th, I will be able to use my credits until 11:59 on March 18th, correct?

Personally we always pay OOP for a meal on our first day there and use that at the end of our trip.

If you plan when you are using your credits and for what day you can usually "squeek" one out towards the end of your trip.

Example:

On MK day we want Pecos or Comics, and CP for dinner that is a lot of food.
So next day say we do AK, not a great food park, we eat a good brkfst and pay OOP for a small snack at lunch and save that CS credit.....viola there is our meal for departure day.

Play around with where you will eat and you will come up with a credit to spare for your last day.

And if not.............pay OOP, it is only one meal, especially if you do a buffet. ;)

Oh well. Thanks for the answer!

I guess the best bet might be to look at where we want to eat, pick the cheapest one and pay that OOP. That way we'll get the most out of the credits we do have on the DDP.

And you're probably right - if DH and I can find a couple of CS meals to share that would cover us for a CS meal too.

If possible book the one TS meal you plan to pay out of pocket at the end of your trip. That way if someone gets sick or you decide to skip a TS meal you aren't left with extra TS credits.
