The Unofficial Guide: The Color Companion to Walt Disney World
560 full-color images prove that a picture is worth 1,000 words!
The Color Companion is perfect for pairing with The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World ("the big book") or it can stand alone to provide you with what you need to know in a flash when you're visiting the park. While the Unofficial Guide gives you more than 800 pages of highly detailed information on planning, staying and surviving your visit to Walt Disney World, The Color Companion also takes the "Unofficial" approach, but SHOWS you where you'll be staying and what you'll be doing -- in a trim 360-page book, perfect for tucking into a backpack or totebag.
This unique visual guide that lets you see how wet you'll get on Splash MountainŽ (p. 166), what the crowd conditions are at different times of day in FantasylandŽ (p. 34), and how the parks are decked out for various holidays (p. 280). Hundreds of fun full-color photos make this book a perfect keepsake, as well as an incredibly useful on-the-ground resource. The Color Companion provides reviews of all the Walt Disney WorldŽ resorts, including pictures of the guest rooms, swimming pools, and resort themes. As with the Unofficial "big book", attractions and resorts are rated based on surveys of thousands of Walt Disney WorldŽ guests and the proven, firsthand advice will teach you how to plan and save money on your Walt Disney WorldŽ vacation. As always, The Unofficial series is completely independent. If a restaurant serves lackluster food or an attraction is not worth the wait, we'll tell you.
Check out The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney WorldŽ, the bestselling independent guide to Walt Disney WorldŽ and the perfect companion to this full-color guide.

Several of the photographers here have pictures included in the book. Please post here if you have a photo included!
Cory Disbrow posted a picture that shows the names of some of the phographers:

They included one of my daughter at BBB.
It's a good photo, but it helps having such a cute subject!

Don't have the book yet, not sure. I found out they used my submissions by looking at the credits at the end of the preview on scribd (http://www.scribd.com/doc/28074770/The-Unofficial-Guide-The-Color-Companion-to-Walt-Disney-World)

There are some great photos. And all the photos really adds a great dimension to the Unofficial Guide.

I don't know about everyone else. I was contacted by the publisher about my photo being used. He found it via Flickr.

I was wondering....How much did they pay you for the use of your picture. Ball park figures are fine...

Interesting concept for a book... grab a bunch of other people's Flickr photos and sell 'em. :lmao: Hopefully you get something out of the deal; it sounds like almost pure profit for the publisher.
...OK, I took a quick look at the preview on Scribd and I will take that back. I got the impression that it was nothing but a photo book, which is not the case; there is a decent amount of text and such. Code, looks like you got 5 shots in there according to the index! It looks like most of the shots actually came off iStockPhoto, presumably the rest are Flickr ones.

I just got my copy! (Amazon Prime 2 day free shipping + Amazon having my credit card info stored = frequent stressful workday impulse purchases). It's really nice- great job everyone. I've always liked The Unofficial Guide book but I always thought it should have pictures. I like it a lot!

Congratulations to you who got published. :goodvibes I hope they paid you though because that book is going to be a cash cow for the publishers/authors.

I have an older copy of the guide and they mention they don't use Disney photos due to the legal requirements. So I guess they now have Disney's ok or some of you can expect knocks on the door late at night from the Disney police.:scared1:

My daughter made the book, and I am trying to locate a copy of it now. None of the bookstores have it near me and I leave for WDW next week and want it before we go
I think we need a support group thread for those of us not good enough to be in the book. :sad1:

Actually... I heard they were doing a book exclusively with your shots......

No, I think Jeff is right. Jeff, you probably ought to consider getting some lessons to step up your game. I have some pictures in the book, thus it follows that I am better than you and equipped to give you lessons (nevermind that we're in different states--I've found that the best way to learn "good" photography is via email). My current going rate is one D700 and one 14-24mm f/2.8 lens in exchange for 10 emails. I'll send you my address in a PM so you know where to mail the gear. ;)
Kidding aside (and I think you know this), the book is mostly filled with illustrative rather than artistic images (not to say they aren't good images--most are very good), and I think many great photographers were ommitted (the authors probably just didn't stumble upon their work for whatever reason) so I wouldn't "worry" too much about not being included.

Not sure if this is the right thread to ask this in or not but I was thinking of buying this book instead of their "big book" - what do you think, is it just as helpful?
I don't really need too much info on hotels because we already have one. Food is mostly decided except for some CS and snacks...
what do you think?

I've been curious about the legal aspects of this. Considering the fact that Disney is rabid enforcer of their copyright and trademark rights, I was wondering what type of licensing fees...if any would be required to put a book together.
I just remember the post where someone was escorted off Downtown Disney property for taking pictures of the House of Blues with a tripod. A bit chilling considering many of us have done the exact same thing everywhere on Disney property. If this is too off-topic, mods, please move to a separate topic. Thanks!

When the WDW Today podcast read your question and talked about your great photos that were used in the book I was like, "Hey, I know who that is!" :thumbsup2
