Orlando Sentinel

A Walt Disney World employee broke his leg Sunday afternoon after he was struck by a guest driving a car at the Tomorrowland Speedway in the Magic Kingdom, authorities said.

The unidentified employee was airlifted to Orlando Regional Medical Center in stable condition, said Bo Jones, deputy fire chief with Reedy Creek Emergency Services.

The accident occurred just before 1 p.m., Jones said. Disney temporarily closed the attraction but re-opened it less than three hours later.

The gas-powered ride vehicles used in the Tomorrowland Speedway have top speeds of 7 mph.

I am confused how this could have happened, obviously I feel bad for the CM who broke their leg, I also feel badly if it was a kid who hit him, our kids would have been traumatized if they would have caused a CM to be airlifted out of the park.:scared1:

I feel bad for the kid too...That would kill the trip...I'm wondering what the cast member was doing because he was obviously not paying attention/distracted or something...for pete's sake the cars are on tracks, it's not like the kid couldn't steer and ran him over that way...

I would imagine this was at the loading/unloading area. CMs walk through the lanes all the time. It would be easy for someone to let off the brake just as a cm was stepping in front or not hitting the brake in time as they came in to stop. I don't see how they would have to be airlifted though. Seems extreme for a 7mph max collission.

My friends daughter is in the college program and works at the Tomorrowland Speedway. She was not there but came to work later that evening. She said the CM was on a bridge trying to fix a problem on the track and the car knocked into him and he hit his head on the track, causing a deep gash in his head. He then was run over and had his leg broken. He was airlifted. That's the last she had heard from her daughter.
