Just curious, a couple years ago a cm at flametree told me that as long as you request a large drink on the ddp they will give it to you-if you don't specify it will be a medium. I have done it ever since. Last year I had 1 cm at Pizza planet who refused. Has anyone else run into this? Did I catch the beginning of a policy change or just the cm who had salt in her cheerios that day- I am asking so I know what to do for this year's trip-TIA

Sorry, but it sounds like it's going to depend on the individual restaurant, and perhaps even on the individual cashier you get. There's nothing in the brochures about what size of fountain soft drink you're entitled to.

I had to laugh at this because it brought back such a clear memory. We (my mom, 2 db's, me & DS) first used the DDP in Aug 2006. On the third day or so as I got to our table with our CS meal, my mom looks at my & DS's drinks, then at hers and DBs' drinks and asks me "How the heck did you get large sodas?" :confused3 I just asked for large when I ordered. She made a point to get a large after that.

2006, 2007, 2008 - never a problem getting a large soda when I asked for it. You must have just gotten a cranky or new CM.

I had a similar problem at Casey's once. I asked if I could just pay the price difference between a medium and large. The CM sort of rolled her eyes and gave me a large soda without charge.

Good to know...I wasn't aware you could do this!

Does anyone know if the soda's are refillable as say McDonalds are?

I've topped my soda off before leaving the Electric Umbrella since the dispensers were out in the line area. I personally wouldn't ask for a refill if the dispensers were behind the counter but they may not have a problem with that.

When we are there in September and it is hotter than the surface of the sun we always ask for a Large soda. We also often get an ice water to help quench the thirst.

The only place that said, NO, and quite emphatically, was Yakatori House in Japan. The sweet lady behind the counter suddenly seemed personally offended that I asked for a Large soda. She also went out of her way to let me know I could only have one drink.

It was so abrupt and forceful that it gave me the giggles. I did not mean to laugh at her, but she caught me off guard and I was tired and a little slap happy. Then she really seemed offended that I laughed at her. I appologized while trying to stiffle the inappropriate laughter and got outside to eat in the garden as quickly as possible.

My husband will still sometimes randomly shout at me, "No, you get ONE drink. Medium ONLY!" and I still end up laughing until I nearly wet my pants.:rotfl2: It has become an inside family Disney joke.

It lives along side other great Disney one liners like. . .

"That sassy squirrel just wrote on my pants."

"I was not PLAYING with my poop, just getting it out of my bottom with my hands."

Last but not least, "You WILL have fun or I will send you home in a Fed Ex Box."

We also travel in September-hence the concern-at that time of year drink size matters. I understand about the cast member -ours at Pizza planet reminded us of the soup nazi episode of Seinfeld years ago.

We just always order large drinks, and water, never has anyone said no, one trip at Rays starlight cafe, We order several sandwiches, chicken fingers, and cokes plus waters for each of us. When we received the order it had bottled water on it as well as the drinks, I told the CM that we did not pay for them, but would as they were on the tray. The front end manager just looked up and said give them Ice to go with the waters, I don't have time to worry with this. and moved on. So we took the tray and went to eat. :rolleyes1

On our first night, last September, on the DDP we stopped at Pizza Planet for grub. I asked the CM, an adorable young gal, which size drink comes with the plan. She smiled and said if you ask for a large, I have to give you a large. I thought for a second, because I don't want to disrespect the Mouse, and she whispered under her smiling breath "ask for the large!" :rotfl: So we did.

I think you hit the nail on the head with this one. When it is busy, staff don't have time for a discussion whether you're asking for something or trying to give it back. They are under so much pressure to get orders out and keep the lines moving. The same goes for asking for something "different" or any special request. If you do this when it is peak time and the place is chaotic, be prepared for a flat no - even although if you went a couple of hours later the same CM may well have said yes.

We had a similar experience at Pecos Bills last year on Easter weekend. Insanely busy, trays backed up on the counter and our tray had a chicken wrap and fries or something which weren't ours. There was nowhere to put it if I took it off, and when I mentioned it the manager just said "Enjoy, not your problem. Please take it out of our way".

Sometimes it's all in the timing (and of course, how you ask ;))
