Pete, Kevin, John and the rest of the podcast team... Did you guys get the e-mail from apple, stating that pre-ordering for the iPad starts today for arrival on April 4th (if I am not mistaken)? Did you guys pre-order yet? I am really considering purchasing one because it seems like such a great gadget, and I cannot even imagine how e-ticket will look on it!

You can also reserve one for pickup at the Apple Store. The reserved IPad can be picked up on April 3.

The Wifi IPad will be released on my birthday, but I will wait for the 3g.

I am seriously considering ordering one. I love the fact I can hook it up to a VGA projector. I travel extensively and give a lot of presentations and this may fit the bill.

Yes I got my email. I decided to pass on version 1 of the iPad. I really thought I wanted one but decided it was lacking a few things that might appear later.

Never, ever, ever by a first generation Apple product, especially on the first day. Version 1 products are beta at best, and will drop in price drastically in a month or two.

If you must get one, I'd wait until version 2.

I was all gung-ho to get this thing. It has the stuff I want in my iPhone, but don't have.

However, it has no phone. So I'd be stuck carrying 2 things around. The whole reason I love the iPhone is that I only have to carry 1 thing around. Don't want to carry 2 things.

Also, I have to pay them usage fees for both items. No, thanks.

Much as I wanted it, it sounds like a lot of extra money for no added convenience and I think I'm going to skip it.

Thanks for the advice! :thumbsup2

I was thinking along those lines myself, but it's nice to hear it from someone who is probably more knowledgeable about it than me.

I'm also waiting until it has more features.

Thanks for the good advice! I was thinking the same thing, but am so excited for it that I just didn't think I could wait. But as you both said, it may be wise to wait for more features!

When the 3g IPad comes out, I will use it as my cell phone. Data subscription with a Skype/Vonage subscription.

I know that I am going to look funny using the IPad as a phone, but I dont mind looking funny if it means saving money, ansd not having a cell contract.

I personally feel that many people are overlooking the IPad's potential as a cell phone.

I'm going to go look at one at the Apple store when they get released, but right now I don't think I'll actually buy. Once I see it in person (to help me better grasp the size/weight) I'll then think about how I'd use it.

Right now I'm not thinking the iPad will do anything for me. I don't find traveling with my MBP to be unduly cumbersome. Perhaps using it while on the couch to surf the net? I just don't know.

OTOH, I'm probably up for the next version of the iPhone. I'm guessing Apple will come out with a new model sometime this summer. Can't wait to see what else they do with the iPhone. We've currently got the 3G model and it will be 2 years old come July. I'm ready to "trade up".

Or never considered it... like me. Thanks for giving me a bit more food for thought! Like I needed an(other) excuse to want the iPad. =)

I am a shameless early adopter. I ordered the entry level, wi-fi only iPad. I will use it until the iPad 2.0 is released then eBay the version 1 model.
