Just mentioned the idea of a winter trip to HH to my family. Explained that it would be to cold to swim in the ocean and swimming in the pool could be out also. My DS7 asked if it would be possible to crab off the pier at the resort. I don't know the answer but I'd bet someone else might. Is there a season to crabbing? Thanks.

I was curious of that myself. We'll be at HH between Christmas and New Years and wondered what typical HH activities were possible in the winter. I think my 6 year old son would think it was really fun!

Hey, Grace--
We will be there too--arriving 12/26 and departing New Year's Dave. All of the DISers will have to get together. I am compiling a list of everyone who will be there at that time so that we can all be in touch. It would be wonderful for the children to "meet" some others (by email) ahead of time--we did this for our 2 Magic cruises and the kids had such a wonderful time.
We have DD14 and DS9. How about you?

Count us in too! We will be there Dec 29 to Jan 3.
Curious about all the holiday happenings.

The pools are heated and people have said they swam in the winter there...and the hot tub sounds great!

My family has been at HH for the past 2 years in the middle of February. While the ocean was too cold for swimming we did swim in the pool on both trips. We'll be back again this February. Who all else will be there?
In answer to your crabbing question, on both of our past winter trips we were told that we wouldn't have any luck crabbing at that time of year. Hope this helps.

Crab season usually starts in late April-Oct. Atleast that is what it is around the jersey shore. During the winter months, the crabs live in the mud. The crabs won't taste very good at this time, because for some reason if you do get some in the winter, they might be full of mud. The best way to catch crabs is when they come up from the mud in the warmer seasons.

Thanks for the info DVCLady and Alyson - I was clueless about crabs and their season.

Cam, we have three kids DD 9, DS 6 and DS2. Sounds like several of us with plans for HH around the Holidays.
