I'm not sure if I just never noticed them, or if they were not there in previous years, but my daylillies have seed pods where the blooms used to be. Is this an actual seed that you can stick in the ground and grow more daylillies? I guess it just baffles my mind because I am so used to division for multiplying daylillies.

They re seeds in those pods. As the pods turn tan and dry there will be hard black seeds inside. However if you don't need the seeds clip or break off the pods as they take strength form the plant, just like with iris, lily bulbs, etc. Also remember that you may not get the color you think you will from the seed as unless you pollinated it yourself and tied the flower shut, any old pollen may have been left there by nature. Of course you could get a pleasant surprise too.
