Accomodation Sizes/Renting Points

I'm trying to save money on a post easter trip, April 2003. We are also interested in DVC but we live in California and they won't sell to us unless we are in Florida. The information I have says that the studios and the 1 bedroom units only sleep 4 adults. We have two adults and 3 children, ages 5-10. The kids don't mind sharing a queen size bed. Can we rent points for a studio or do they really check to see how many people you have? We would want to rent enough points for April 21-26. The point calculator shows 119 for a studio and 235 for a 1 bedroom. Thanks in advance for any advice!!

Oops. I forgot to say that we wanted to stay at the Beach Club Villas. I know they are new and it would probably be hard to get in there. But you can always dream.

Unless one kid is under three and can fit in a porta crib, you are breaking the rules.

Either will do it.

Many use the two bedroom with two kids. Its just a lot more comfortable.

five people with one bathroom doesn't work very well either.

Many do fit 5 in a studio and though it is technically outside the rules, it is not at all enforced by DVC. You're best option is dependent on your situation and preferences. I'd say if you're going weekdays, a 2 BR Sunday to Friday may be best. If there's a weekend, you may be better off going through CRO and renting DVC or looking at one of the moderates that do have accomodations for 5.

Other than OKW, none of the studios have 2 queen beds. The only other units with 2 queen beds are the dedicated 2 BR units at WLV. The dedicated 2 BR at BCV were supposed to have that configuration but there was a mixup. They will be converting them back but I'm sure it'll take time as apparently there was more than just putting the wrong bed. The studios have a queen and a pull out and I think the pull out is a full size, not a queen.

You can get two studios , but they won't connect as studios only connect to one bedroom units

There's three of us (one is a teenager) and we have generally used a one bedroom - tried a studio once when we first bought (at OKW 10 years ago!) and it was just too small!

On the past 4 trips and the upcoming one (BCV - next week!) we stayed in a two-bedroom. This size will probably be our new standard when traveling as three - when it's just two of us it will always be a one-bedroom.

I try to stay out of these occupancy threads because many seem to be very vocal about the rules and I don't think it's really a big deal if the 5th person is a small child (BTW, I'm not an owner, but am renting points.)

However....the five of us spent one night downtown San Antonio (we wanted to be tourists in our own city) and stayed in a Holiday Inn with 2 dbls. - our children are 3, 6 and 8. I had intentions of bringing the sleeping bag for my son, but forgot it. One night was the most I wanted to spend in one small room. We spent most time out of the room, but it was still too small when it came to shower time. The kids slept in one bed and didn't look comfortable. I don't think I would have let my son sleep in the sleeping bag on the carpet anyway, it just didn't feel clean enough.

Anyway, my point is, even though my kids are small enough to share a one bedroom hotel room, it was just too stressful. Certainly not something I would want to do for 5 nights straight. This is just my opinion.

There are dedicated studios at Boardwalk Villas that sleep five. They are called a studio plus. The five year old would fit comfortably on the pull out day bed.

Is there much difference (size wise) between a BCV studio and a Beach Club Resort room that sleeps five (other than the day bed?) We have stayed in a Beach Club resort room several times and it seems to be okay.

Isn't this exactly what we talk about?

People renting points and over occupying the units. I wish they would become consistant and either call DVC a tenement or enforce the rules consistantly.

A manager from sales told me that they have asked people to obtain proper size accomodations or leave when they are overfilling the units.

While DVC may look the other way now, while they are still selling DVC units, they could start getting more heavy handed at any time.

A family of five needs two studios or a two bedroom unit...five people sharing one bathroom....tenement, like I said.

Dumbo That's true but they can no longer be reserved directly with points. One would not be guaranteed to get that room even if specified and requested. I don't know if one can reserved a dedicated studio plus specifically through CRO but I doubt it. At any rate, the Day bed is pretty small and might even be too small for the now 5 y/o.

Not trying to get into controversy here, just stating my opinion. I just would not think I would have a good time at all if I had to sleep with 3 kids in one bed 2 feet from my bed! I also would HATE the bathroom situation. The nice thing with the 2 bedroom is that you can close the door and the adults can watch TV, cook, even have guests over, and the kids can still be sound asleep in the next room with their OWN bathroom! We always stay at OKW, so there is plenty of room and 2 queen sized beds in the second bedroom as well as a nice big bathroom withan extra sink in the closet area, so two people can get ready at once.

Most Beach Club rooms have 2 queens and a daybed. A BCV Studio has 1 queen and a double pullout sofa.

While the size of a BC and BCV room may be similar the layout is different because at the entrance more room is taken for the microwave, mini frig and sink area. So it may be a tad bit smaller in the sleeping area. It just is designed totally different.

I didn't want to say anything because I thought my memory was going. To me, the "daybed" at BWV looked a lot more like a bench to put your suitcase on. Only a very small child could fit.

That's exactly what it is! WHen my SIL & I stayed in a studio plus, we used it to pile our "souvenirs" on. IIRC, it didn't hold all that many, either, LOL! I remember it being less than 4 feet wide. There was a sheet on it under the covering, though. (I looked). A small (short) child could sleep on it, IMHO.

If you are renting pts you will still get a much nicer room at BCV than a room at BC for about the same price. I agree with everyone else you definitely need either 2 studios or a 2 BR but either way you will have 2 bathrooms, either a full kitchen or 2 kitchenettes and a lot more room and seperate space for everyone than you will have in 1 rm at BC for almost the same price.
