I'm not an old friend, but I am "older", I am friendly and I'm an exprienced cruiser, and I'll be on this cruise!
So will DH, and my granddaughter who will be almost 11 years old by then. We aren't telling her that she's going on the cruise until we actually leave WDW to go to the port! Otherwise, she'll talk our ears off for the next 305 days.
This will be my 10th DCL cruise, DH's 9th and DGD 2nd. We booked while we were on board Magic in February, and I can't wait!

It should be quite an adventure since I bring REALLY bad weather with me. However, it may be the combination of me and Captain John (who assured me that he was staying with Magic). On my past four cruise with him as Captain, we had freakish bad weather, including an out of season tropical storm in mid-December which caused 25-30 foot waves one night, and the weather on our cruise in February which was bad enough that we missed Grand Cayman, had hail one night in the pouring rain and were re-routed to Nassau because we didn't get to Grand Cayman. It was chilly enough in Nassau that I had to wear a jacket when I went ashore.
Consider yourselves warned, or hope that the problem is Captain John and not me;).

Between Beth, Captain John, and the rest of us, we are doomed!
Lets see......Jamie and Ben = Hurricane.
Wally and Paul = Storm swells so bad the gangplank falls into the water.
Myself, missed Castaway Cay quite a few times due to weather.....
And this past February......stuck at Castaway Cay for an extra day.....
And then there was the little girl who did the Technicolor Yawn on our feet!
Oh well, a cruise is what you make it! :cool1:

Hmmm, I'd put up with a hurricane (at least a small one!) to get a few extra days on a cruise. After the high seas of Tropical Storm Olivia (Dec., 2007, 25-30 feet) I think I might be able to handle it.

Welcome!
OK, it's been a few months now, and I'm still keeping the secret from my DGD. She swears she's going to stow away in our luggage, but she really has NO idea that she'll have her own luggage to carry instead of having to squeeze herself into mine. She's already making a list of souvenirs that she wants me to bring back for her. I think I'm going to have to save a whole lot more money!

Hi all!
I'm entirely new here but I just convinced my husband to go on this cruise.
We're REALLY looking forward to it. We both tend to be high energy vacationers, but for some reason we both agreed we needed a downtime trip. (I can't explain any of it, since I spent six months recovering from knee surgery and now he can't run because of a stress fracture... except maybe that's not exactly relaxing vacation type of stuff)
-Sarah, first Disney cruise EVER. First warm weather cruise EVER, too.

I kind of can't believe I talked my husband into this, if only because I tried to make him promise not to... let me talk him into this. He likes Disney, he's not a nut about it, and we'll be back in July 2011 for a family trip (with my parents, for their 40th, and my brother, his wife, and their fairly new infant). But it fit into our budget :confused3 and the timing is right!
On the other hand, we're going to Europe for the first time in 15-days-but-who-is-counting so I'm pretty much bouncing off the walls.

Sarbah77--We want to see pictures!!! Lots of pictures!!!
rosiep--I know how to play very nicely. I was a kindergarten teacher. Just remember that I tend to bring bad weather with me, so you may not want to play with me at all!
Everyone else--just hope that I don't decide to sing. My singing voice is so awful that I was asked not to sing in church!
Still haven't told my granddaughter, although she really believes that she's going with us! I think she's trying to use the power of positive thinking and the power of suggestion to convince us that she should go with us. She keeps telling me how much she would miss her "really cool Grandma" while we're gone!

Beth- How old is your granddaughter? I have two girls ages 24 and 26. One loves Disney the other ....um....er....hates it. I usually travel with the 24 year old but I nixed her from the cruise in favor of her father....:lmao: Wally had to promise her lots of trinkets to placate her.

The granddaughter going on the cruise is 10 going on 17, and a real Disney lover. She'll be close to 11 when we cruise. I have two other grandchildren--boy/girl twins who are almost 1 1/2. They won't be cruising with us, but the whole gang will be at WDW before the cruise. It will be the first trip for the little ones.
Their father (my son) is 35, and grew up thinking that WDW was our vacation home. I'm so glad that he wants his family to have the same experiences!

I have no tatoos, but I designed my DIL's latest one. She's an EMT, and a big TInkerbell fan. Her tatoo is Tinkerbell sitting on top of the Star of Life. Now we're working on something for her twins. She has shamrocks, horseshoes and the birthdate for the DGD who's cruising with us on her right calf. I designed that one for her too.

On the count of 3!!!
Sarbah77--We want to see pictures!!! Lots of pictures!!!
We took lots. Lots and lots and they're on my travel laptop and I need to move them over before I can force them on people.
It was AMAZING. I ended up with a sunburn in St. Petersburg. Almost the whole trip was sunny and no rain ever got in the way of anything we wanted to do (it rained while we were in the Hermitage and twice on the ship but not during time in port nor at sea).
The best part? My husband LOVED our roll call. It was SUPER active and had a ton of people on it that we saw all over for the 12 days on the ship. He's completely stocked for this cruise, now. I think I may have created an addict (finally).

Maybe we can arrange to introduce them early in the cruise! Shannan makes friends very easily and it would be nice to know that there will be someone her age that she can talk to--especially someone who comes from a "DIS Family". She knows about the DIS and sometimes looks over my shoulder. That's why I can never open this thread when she's around!

I forgot my manners! Welcome!
This will be my 10th Disney Cruise, DH's 9th (I was lucky enough to take a "girls only" cruise for my birthday in 2009), and DGD's 2nd, although she was only 3 1/2 on her other cruise. She remembers a lot about it and still says it was her favorite vacation ever. Of course, all of her vacations have been Disney-related somehow!
Naturally, this will be our first cruise on Dream. Jim and I have cruised twice on Magic and the rest have been on Wonder. I just found out that I will be reviewing the cruise for a local travel agent who specializes in Disney vacations. He met his wife at Disney World, and they honeymooned on Magic! I met him through work, and we got chatting, and before I knew what happened I was agreeing to do this. And yes, we did actually accomplish the business that brought him to my office!

This will be our 6th and 7th (our first B2B). We have only cruised on the Magic. Our first cruise was the inaugural year when my oldest daughter was then only 2 1/2 years old (now going to be 14). We like to joke with her how she almost drowned in the Mickey Pool!
I saw that you have also cruised B2B, how was it? We were so excited about the Dream and just can't imagine cruising on the new ship for only 4 days!! Was the disembarkation/reembarkation as easy as I've read? I heard that the adult only area is the only space available. How does this work with kids? Will they be allowed to swim if they want to?
Have you participated in FE's? We did on our last cruise and the girls loved it! I hope someone arranges it for this one!:)

We loved our B2B. It was back in 2005 before they required you to get off the ship and back on again. We had to go to Guest Services and check in, but were able to remain on the ship. Nothing was open and no services were available. We weren't restricted to any particular place, just asked to stay out of the way. We sat in the adult area, and I had some work that I had to do. While there was no food or drink available for guests, the CM's offered to get us coffee or anything else we wanted. It was amazing to watch them get the ship ready! Make sure you look over the side of the ship and see the supplies that will be brought on. I never saw so many bags of potatoes in my life! I doubt that the kids will want to swim--the pools were being cleaned and were roped off until other guests were allowed to board. Of course, that may have changed!
The CM's all treated us like returning royalty on the second half. The dining room manager was able to rearrange our dining so that we had the same servers (we had loved them).
We actually thought about doing the same B2B that you're doing, but decided to go back to WDW with the granddaughter instead, for some "quality time" with her. If I can scrape together the deposit money, I think we'll rebook for the fall or early winter while we're on board, if there's anything available. Since we live at the shore, we tend to vacation in the off season, because why would I want to go anywhere else in the summer?:cool1:
We participated in the FE on our Dec., 2007 cruise. We had a big DIS and it was a lot of fun. However, with the fees airlines are charging for luggage now, and the fact that we'll have a lot of luggage since this is a long vacation, I don't think we'll participate this time.

I'm in...a Bahama Mama would be good right about now. The a/c is out in our office. I'm lucky--I have four windows in my office, open and bringing in the ocean breeze (as well as an incredible amount of street noise and I can't hear myself think). The others--well, it's about 90 degrees now in the rest of this place!

So where will everyone tend to hang on the ship?
My group tends to hang at the pool on the adult deck.

Well, I'll share some of my AC! I have my space heater running almost full blast and my office is at 73! We've never been on a Disney cruise before! I wouldn't have a clue!!
My biggest problem with RCI's Jewel of the Seas was that there were no common areas that didn't have something at all times - a bar, blasting World Cup games, the card lounge with constant for-money card games, etc. I hope the Dream has better!

Our offices are usually REALLY cold in the summer and REALLY hot in the winter. It's also an old building, about 125 years, but the a/c and heat were new when we moved in seven years ago. They just never worked right. And to add insult to injury the roof leaks now and then. As my boss says, "It only leaks when it's raining!":rotfl2:
As to where we'll be hanging out, I don't know yet--I guess it depends on what DGD decides to do! If she goes to the club then we'll be somewhere near the adult pool, enjoying a few moments of peace and quiet after being with a VERY chatty almost 11-year old. If she wants to hang with us, who knows? And of course, we'll need to spend some time on the verandah!

I still have my countdown set for the cruise because we haven't decided which day we'll head to Florida. The younger generation is heading out a few days before we do so that they can have some time alone with their kids at WDW before Grandma and Grandpa arrive to share the fun. It will be the little ones' first visit, but the granddaughter cruising with us is a WDW veteran. They're going to camp at Fort Wilderness for a week. We did that in Dec., 2007, but this time we're going to stay in one of the resorts, probably Pop Century. We're still deciding about that, and about where we'll stay after the cruise. I'd really like to treat DGD to the Animal Kingdom Lodge again!

We stayed there the day they opened, and have stayed many times since then. I love it! I've stayed in a lot of WDW hotels, and I love them all. The last time we had DGD with us, she stayed for two nights at AKL while her mom and dad stayed in the tent in Fort Wilderness. They got some "alone time" and she got some "inside a warm hotel room in December" time. We didn't spend much time there, however, because we were always out doing "stuff". This time, when we return from the cruise, it will be relaxing time, not park time, so it may be the best time to stay at AKL and really enjoy some of their amenities!
Before this cruise, the rest of the family will be at Fort Wilderness again (most likely), but I just can't get into the idea of sleeping in a tent in the winter again!

Well, that decision worked out! The family will NOT be camping at Fort Wilderness in February. In fact, they will not be coming to WDW in February at all. Our cruise plans are intact, and our WDW choices will now be up to us. DGD will still be coming with us.
Why the sudden change? DDIL has been going through testing to find the source of her constant exhaustion. Today they got the diagnosis. She's pregnant!!!! Before the twins were born, they went through almost six years of infertility treatments, and all kinds of painful things were required in order to have them. She was told that she probably would not be able to conceive any more children without that kind of intervention again. Hmmm, I guess the doctors aren't always right! Her due date right now is March 17, so she has decided wisely that camping at WDW in February isn't what she wants to do.;)
Instead, the entire family will travel to WDW in the fall of 2011, probably without the camping component and instead staying at Pop Century. With that many people, we'll need two rooms anyway. It looks like Jim and I will be able to sneak in a fall cruise too, since we'll already be in Florida! I guess I'll talk to the rebooking agent while we're on board.

I think we've decided to tell her at Christmas time. By then she'll be going crazy with excitement over the new arrival, and I think she'll enjoy some time of planning and anticipating, just like I do!
Right now, I think we'll fly down the day before the cruise and stay at the airport Hyatt. We did that last February and it worked out perfectly. I think that after the cruise we'll stay at Pop Century, since now we'll have to spend time in the parks since she won't have been there before. The good part is that we can stay a little longer than we had planned.
I have too many things to be excited about! I guess this means that I'll have to bring my knitting or crocheting with me so that I'll have things ready for the new arrival.

My brother's wife is due in October and it's the first kid on my side of the family... So I've been knitting like mad for Future Niece! I look forward to seeing what you're working on. :) (I might also cross-stitch a birth sampler, but I generally wait till post-arrival to worry about that) (Also, as a knitter, you'll have sympathy: I found a cloth moth yesterday in my yarn. :( )

I'm sorry to hear about the moth!
I thought about cross-stitching something, but I'd really rather knit or crochet. I'm also teaching DGD to do both, so she'll have a project with her, too. Right now I'm finishing up sweaters for the two little ones for the fall, and then I'll be doing one for DGD for the fall, and of course she can take it with her on the cruise. She's trying to decide what style she wants, and sorting through my stash to pick out colors, etc. By the time she makes her final decision, I'll probably be making her wedding gown!:rotfl2:

Her name is Shannan. She'll be three months short of being 11 when we sail. Since we plan on telling her at Christmas, maybe they can exchange email after that. It would be nice for her to "know" someone close to her own age as soon as she boards, since she'll be going with us "old folks".
We've decided that we're going to buy her some luggage for Christmas, and fill it with some of the souvenirs we've brought home from various Disney trips--the older and shabbier, the better. In among these will be a few other things, like maybe a nice toiletry bag, a new pair of pajamas, etc. The main envelope will contain the information that she can take all the junk out of the suitcase and fill it with all new souvenirs on her trip.
I just hope Jim and I can keep the secret that long. Her parents told her today that they would have to postpone the trip from February until sometime in the fall of 2011. She was a little disappointed, but she understands about the baby. And she said that the twins would be a lot more fun by then, since they'll be 2 1/2! I thought that was just too cute!

We're really going to try to keep it that long. Jim almost blew it tonight. I ordered an underwater scuba camera/mask because I want to go snorkeling at Castaway Cay again. Shannan came in while I was ordering it, and Jim asked her if she wanted to try it when she goes to Castaway Cay. Fortunately she said that if we still have it in two years she'd like to borrow it. I think she suspects, but we're not going to give in and tell her!

So I've started looking at airfare... if only because airfare to MCO is a heck of a lot cheaper than airfare to Boston or Sioux Falls, SD. The other week, AirTran had $165 round-trips, but we hadn't finalized our dates just yet to do anything about it.

Oh, okay, that makes sense.
:confused3:thumbsup2::yes::
So, it turns out, I'm going to need another knee surgery. My surgeon says I should look into having it at the end of October. I'll be on crutches for 4 weeks. It's my right leg/knee. However, my husband is going to a conference in mid-November. If I don't do it in mid-November, well, my busy time at work is the month of December. And then it's January, which is FAR FAR too close to the cruise.
My options are either "hire a taxi to get to work" or "wait until mid-February." It's a LONG gap between late October/early November and mid-February... but I'm not going to screw with this trip!
(And my poor husband couldn't go last year because, well, I was recovering from knee surgery.) (Believe it or not, the surgeries are actually successful!)

Shoot, now I feel like I'm spamming: wallyb, you mentioned that you thought it was cool that I got to see the Hermitage in St. Petersburg.
Here's a link to just a few pictures (my skillz are poor): http://www.flickr.com/photos/sarbah77/4851519392/in/set-72157624338378187/ - that one, plus the next 7, were all taken immediately outside or inside the building. Artwork didn't photograph that well for me, so you'll just have to imagine it between the photos. ;)
This (http://www.flickr.com/photos/sarbah77/sets/72157624338378187/) is the set thus far, but I still have Gothenburg and another day in London to post. And then hopefully I'll come up with a Flickr set that has about 1/4 the pictures to not bore people to tears! :littleangel:

Yeah, well, my last roll call, on Cruise Critics - we ended up with about 100 people who registered for the Meet & Mingle. I would prefer one that had a little less drama than that cruise, though.
I think I was, however, the YOUNGEST active roll call participant.
BUT! This is my first warm-weather cruise. Beth, it'll be interesting. My DH and I tend to have contrary weather on our trips - like, we were in Europe at the start of that now-relentless heat wave and 85 in St. Petersburg Russia was uncalled for. We've been to rainforests where it's forgotten to rain. But I just want to go somewhere warmer than Michigan for a brief trip this winter! IS THAT TOO MUCH TO ASK!?!
(In 2009, we were in Disney World for the marathon and after. It was around 50. It wasn't fun. It was -20 here in Michigan, so I only had really limited sympathy. ;))

No, not yet. She's hinting and she's begging, but I've told her that I can't afford to add another person to the reservation, and that her mom will need her at home since she will be so close to her due date (it will actually be about a month). HOWEVER, she is trying all kinds of ways to "convince" me to take her. Her latest scheme was that she would come as the photographer (she's pretty good at it) so that I won't have to spend so much time taking pictures. Therefore, the idea of taking pictures of the snow in Nassau! She also offered to come along to take care of my clothes, to go and bring food back for breakfast so that Jim and I won't have to get up so early, to carry our luggage--you get the idea! Pretty soon I can just tell her that I tried to add her to the reservation, but our life boat station was full and I can't afford to move to another area of the ship at this point because the price has gone up so much!
It's getting harder to keep the secret, though, because now I'm starting to make my plans for the "after cruise" stay at WDW. We were going to stay for a week, but our plans are changing a bit. My son and daughter-in-law have decided that they want to do our postponed family trip in the fall, so we'll all be going back again! I don't think they'll be camping with the new baby, but we'll probably stay at Pop Century or somewhere and have a slightly more relaxed trip than we're accustomed to. So right now, I think we'll go after the cruise for three or four days and plan our fall trip. That frees up a couple of Jim's vacation days to join me in Atlantic City for a week in November!

I think the AquaDuck was how Jeremy convinced one of his friends to come on the cruise, too. I know I am looking forward to it!!
Okay, semi-serious question: it's a 4 day cruise in the Caribbean (in February). I have one bathing suit. Should I get another? My goal for the trip are to do as little as possible (no significant excursions, etc), so I think beach/pool time is where it'll be.

I always carry two bathing suits in my suitcase. I hate putting on a damp suit.
As for the weather--our only Feb. cruise was this February. Our day in Nassau was CHILLY!!!! I don't think the temperature was above 60 degrees. Our day on Castaway Cay was much warmer, and I did wear a bathing suit, and did go in the water. The water at Serenity Bay that day was very, very, very shallow--I guess it must have been low tide. I walked way out from the shoreline and was still in water up to my knees!

Welcome! This will be my 10th Disney Cruise, and my biggest tip is relax--you can't possibly do everything on your first cruise!
It will be DH and me, along with our almost 11 year old granddaughter. We're surprising her with the cruise as a Christmas gift. It's getting harder and harder to keep the secret, but we're really trying!
