Okay ladies, we are down to the final two. Why do I feel like Ryan Seacrest on American Idol?

Anyway, these are your top two vote getters from our first poll:
March 31 - April 4
April 14 - 18

Once again this will be a public poll and everyone will be able to see who voted and for which dates, and you may only vote once.
It IS open to anyone who is considering attending the 4th annual Girls-only trip. BUT we would appreciate it if you please do not vote if you will not be at least 18 years old, and if you are not seriously planning on attending the trip. :flower3:

I WILL accept votes from any nonDISers which includes friends and family members planning on attending the trip. If they would like to cast a vote, post for them which dates they want and I will manually add their vote at the end. Thank you.

This is a short poll, no sense it dragging it on, and it will be final. Whatever dates win, will be our new trip dates!! So exciting!!!
Now.......... get voting ladies!!! :yay: :woohoo:  :cool1:

Hmmmm........... what to do, what to do......

Being this far out, I can go anytime really, but looking at the two dates I realized they both have blackout dates, both have the potential for hot weather (or even rain for that matter), and both will have Spring breakers in the park at that time. Sooooo. I guess I will pick the Food and Wine dates then.

Not that I'm much of a foodie, at least not fancy foods, and I don't drink wine at all, but between the two I guess it makes more sense to have more options of things to do. Maybe they will offer something yummy to eat that isn't expensive and that I can actually pronounce. :lmao:

Neither date conflicts with any plans I have, and I love the F&W fest, but I do want to throw it out there that the later dates fall on the weekend before Easter. That would throw us right in the middle of Spring break crowds. :scared1:

I think anything in April will run into Spring Break crowds; pretty much from mid-March through the end of April will be like that. I think there will be more crowds the week AFTER Easter than the week before.

I think they'd be the same, just by using my family for example: I have spring break the week before Easter and my mom and little sister have spring break the week after.

I just need to psyche myself up when we get closer so I will expect the absolute worst and perhaps be pleasantly surprised.

I completely disagree, because Easter falls so late I doubt many will occur after Easter. I mean, most school districts won't push off breaks that late. I don't like either set of dates, personally, but I'm going to go with the earlier of the two.

But I love ya, anyway, Stacie! :)

I think so too. Jane said it best when she said pretty much anytime at Disney is crowded now. :sad2:

If I have to have crowds, I like the different options that Food and Wine brings. Will I take advantage of any of it?? Who knows. Maybe. Maybe not. But I remember our first year, some of the ladies were really into the tastings, and meet and greets with the chefs so that would be nice.

Either way though, I'm there. Well, hopefully. Unless a miracle happens and we can afford that Alaska family cruise after all. ;)

I picked the April dates. There is not much difference with crowds, weather, etc. between the two and they will both have the Saturday blocked out and both will be busy (spring break mid-March to mid-April), so I'm going with the F&W dates.

I'm removing my vote officially from the poll.

If anyone wants to take over keeping track of the results, feel free. If not, I will continue to track the results. If you want to cancel the whole revote that's okay too.

I'm sorry I upset anyone. I was only trying to be fair and keep the group happy. Clearly I have failed at that. Then again, I don't know if it's possible to keep 45-50 different ladies happy. Maybe someone else is better suited for the job.

I will 'fess up' that I expressed my displeasure to Beth about this year's voting procedure and the re-vote. Especially since the "rules" indicated that there would be a re-vote in the event of a tie.

Beth--I was very careful in my message to you to indicate that you were not to take it personally, but in the future that we needed to avoid misunderstandings about the procedure and throughly discuss options before jumping to a vote less than one week after everyone got back. If you will all recall, I came back sick, with a load of work and I know other ladies had families and other responsibilities that took much of their time last week--so they couldn't perhaps concentrate on the decision-making process. Given some of the posts I have seen for the rationale for the votes some people have cast it does not appear to me to have been fully thought through.

I also wanted to make sure that if we are going to do things as a "Diva"-group that everyone's input on activities is considered before decisions are made. My personal opinion is that this has not always been the case.

Beth: if you truly feel that you do not want to be a part of this group that is your decision--I hope that is not the case because I know you are valued by the group. If it was my single PM that caused you to post the above message that is and was not my intention.

Okay Beth. Absolutely NO ONE can make us all happy. In fact, I bet not all of us have the capacity to be happy, and certainly not all at the same time.

I have certainly proven that I have the uncanny ability to really piss people off with little effort...so I am not certain we have anyone jumping up and down asking for a chance to run this group.

Last year I received grief for not doing a revote. This year I am getting grief for doing one. I cannot win.
I had more than one person tell me on the trip that the sooner the dates were picked the better for their work and home situations. If it felt rushed, I'm sorry.

I just think maybe it's time I stepped down and let someone else take over. I'm not mad, nor do I want to distance myself from anyone. I just don't seem to be able to do a good job of it anymore and I'm fine with anyone else wanting to take over and try their hand at it. :)

Golly, looks like it was a good thing I was otherwise absorbed last night. lol

I voted, before I read of course, and would like to humbly request that whomever is managing the tally add one vote for the April dates for my DD (19) who will undoubtedly want to tag along should the April dates win.

Oh and I want to mention that not all schools do spring break around Easter. Ours has nothing to do with Easter time. It's always in March because we get out of school in May and it's a break midway through the semester. :thumbsup2

Beth I love ya and I'm sorry that it has come to this.

I just wanted to point out that when I looked at the room rates yesterday it started out next week and went all the way through April. So the logic I was using was that if Easter THIS year is the first week of April and they are jacking up the rates almost a month BEFORE and AFTER the holiday. I don't think it is necessarily JUST for the weeks before and after the holiday but as someone pointed out pretty much for all of March and April because Disney probably pretty much figures that a lot of different states have breaks at different times. As WV just pointed out a lot of colleges don't tie their breaks to the holiday but rather to when school gets out etc.

I realize that easter is later next year but I am just figuring that since our trip dates are ALSO later that chances are the rates will be higher as well.

I remember Capri doing all that work to post all the different spring breaks for the major districts and they were all over the board and so that is what I based my info on. Not just on this years. I was just using that as a guide.

And I remember Stef saying she needed to know as soon as possible and a few DVC people saying they wanted to know early as well to book for next year so I totally see why the so called rush.

Again my only thinking was that if we were GOING to go during a high time and esp during a blockout time why not get the extra benefit of F&W but if NOT then why not go back to an earlier time in march or even feb when it would be cheaper. That was my only thinking.

I realize that the timing is good for some people on this march date but other than that I didn't see what the other draw was. It seems like it will be a higher season and we still have a blockout date. That was the only thing I was trying to point out when figuring out why and when to go. So I know for me I am not just basing my decision on hotel prices but also possible airfare, blockout dates, park crowdedness etc.

And I know for us we can't stay at the hojo because my mom has bad knees and can't walk that far. She always wants to stay as close to the park as possible so even if they DO manage to get a discounted rate we won't be staying there so for my own reasons I am looking at the other hotels in the area.

Anyway again that was just how I personally was trying to figure out the best dates but I wanted to reiterate that I wasn't just using hotel prices to figure on a date but all the different scenarios. And I hope that this doesn't tear our group apart or lead to hard feelings.

Nah, he doesn't fit the criteria...dang...it will have to be you Beth. Sorry.

I'm voting for the later dates because:

1. I want Marcie to be able to finally come on one of our trips.
2. I will most likely be done with my student teaching by then.
3. It's going to be crowded on either set of dates anyway, so I may as well enjoy some Food and Wine options.

But here's something to mull over so this isn't so stressful for Beth and the rest of us every year......maybe we should just pick a certain week of a certain month and stick with it for every ladies trip so there is no more debating and annual voting necessary. I mean, we all know that Thanksgiving falls on the last Thursday of November every year no matter what. We could set up something similar for the ladies trip.

For example, we could say that the ladies trip takes place during the first weekend of March every year (to start the Thursday before and end the Tuesday after).....and that would be that. Of course I'm sure whatever week chosen for the annual ladies trip to take place every year would take a vote, but you get what I'm saying. :upsidedow

(This is what we do for our annual family get together every summer up at the lake.....it's always the first week of August. Makes it simpler for everyone to plan.)

Anyway, just thought I would throw that idea on the table in my medicine head stupor.

I am still trying to figure out when I want to go. I am afraid that the earlier dates would actually be my kiddos spring break......looking at past years. Not sure if I want to head out of town at the end of their spring break. I am really pissed that we don't have a school calendar for next year! I am thinking about going to the school board meeting tonight and having my say about that. I really can't plan a whole lot until I verify dates for the kiddos.

I like the idea of setting a consistent timeframe in theory, but given how many of our lives revolve around school calendars and the ever floating Easter holidays/spring break schedule I am not sure that it's really practical in theory.

This year worked for me because of when Easter fell, but I had to do some major juggling to make it all work out (as did many other Divas).

If we go with the mid April dates I absolutely will not be able to attend as we have 2 programs each year that are all hands on deck, every staff member must be there from start to finish kinds of events--one at the end of August and one in April. Unfortunately, the date has already been set to be 16th. Even with a year's notice, I would not be able to get out of working that Saturday, and with the distance between Vegas and Anaheim, there is no point in coming for just Thursday & Friday or Sunday & Monday.

I don't like rain while at Disneyland, even if it does produce lower crowds. I'm so done with worrying about crowds, unless a major holiday is involved because then I simply will avoid the parks. When I'm with the divas we are so on top of fast passes that the crowds don't really affect us.

If we pick a set month/week for every ladies trip, keep in mind that mid-March through mid-April is typically spring break time, and with so many of us with kids in school, there will always be several of us who won't be able to attend because our own kids will be on spring break the same week as the ladies trip, if you know what I mean. And of course, there are the CROWDS.

I would recommend something on the outside of spring break season.....like the first weekend in March (right before spring break season), or the last weekend in February (fairly quiet during that time of year), or the first weekend in May (right after spring break season, and with Mother's day being that month, it's a good reason for our hubbies/boyfriends to let us go without too much grief - hee hee). ;) :goodvibes

It's not the lack of rides or large ques that bother me with the crowds. You're right, we are DLR professionals and know our FP collecting.

It's not being able to walk down Main Street USA without getting stepped on or pushed or feeling like you are being forced into someone else's personal space that really makes me anxious and uncomfortable. Crowds like that scare me. :scared1: That's why I avoid walking through Adventureland or Tomorrowland when at all possible.

I have to agree with Callie. Collecting fastpasses is no problem. We're all pros at that. It's the actual number of people around so you can't move. Even on quieter days, Mainstreet, Adventureland, and Tomorrowland is crowded and you find yourself dodging through and around people. But when it's actually during a busy time, like spring break season, you can't even dodge through and around.....you're stuck in the herd, inching along.

One thing we MAY want to consider is the block out dates. I know a lot of us have APS and I know that at least for this year and I am assuming next year will be the same that starting the 2nd sat in march every sat is blocked out from then on all the way through april and I think into may. Although I didn't go into may but I know all of june july etc is so I don't know why May wouldn't be as well but I know that the ONLY sat not blocked out in march for THIS year was this past sat the 6th.

I don't know how big of a deal that is going to be to people to have to pay for that day or if we just want to always make that sat an offsite day or whatever but just an extra thought to consider. :)

I've thought about that too Kelly, and I'm not sure about May for AP blockouts. Maybe someone can let us know. It's possible that late Feb may be the best time for everyone given all the variables. The only bummer part of that timeframe is the weather, although some years will be warmer and dryer and others could be downright cold.

Capri's right. The earliest Spring Breaks always occur the 2nd week of March (and those are normally AZ breaks). So the first week of March has always been a slow time (mid-week at least). Weekends are ALWAYS busy with locals. ALWAYS. But I enjoy the Thurs, Fri and Mon lack of crowds if we are there during off-season.

kelmac284

I def like the idea of an offsite day but not everyone can come for all 5 or 6 days. I know quite a few had to leave on Sunday and I know some couldn't get there till Friday so that limited the time they had in the parks to begin with. Perhaps it doesn't matter to them as they may be locals and don't really care but again I am just throwing that into the mix as a consideration.

I know for me for example I wouldn't mind paying the blockout fee during the F&W to go in for the special events but I wouldn't want to pay it in march just to go into the park. In that case I would rather do an offsite option. But I know there were some that couldn't get here till Fri eve so if we had to change the scavy hunt I guess we could do it on Sunday? I am just trying to think logistics. I like the idea of late Feb/early march only for the fact that it is cheaper, no spring break crowds, no block outs and then if we wanted to do an offsite day we could but if someone didn't want to do that they could go in the park and NOT have to pay the fee. That way everyone wins. But again just trying to think of options that would please everyone which of course I know isn't going to happen LOL.

I know personally that time frame is great for me because I usually have just gotten my tax refund and it is right after soccer and/or basketball but before swim so I have NO committments and can go worry free! :)

But I will go with whatever you guys decide just trying to put some more ideas out there.

That's the point, their Spring Break has nothing to do with Easter. If that's the case, they start the 2nd week of March and go through about mid to end April. Two of my kids Spring Break start March 12 next year; the other starts on Good Friday and goes through the following week.

If we always plan for the first weekend in March, we will miss the crowds and the APs shouldn't be blacked out on Saturday.

SEE? Now this is the kind of conversation we should have been having before ever even suggesting dates. . . right?

Some might find it frustrating, but I think it is very constructive.

For those of us who are considering using DVC points to stay onsite, Feb. 26th is the last day for Adventure season (i.e. the cheapest) and then it jumps to Magic Season (i.e. Spring break rates) from Feb 27 through April 14th.
April 15-30 is Premier Season and is nearly double the amount of points necessary for Adventure Season. (and is the 2 weeks immediately surrounding Easter).

Here's a link to the points chart for those who might be concerned with this.

Honestly, I just don't want to do the same weekend we did this year. Okra can't go, and I can't go to Disneyland on Marty's birthday two years in a row.
I also had the concern about blackout dates, but I really don't think that was addressed enough when we we picking dates. :confused3
Just my 2 cents.

Well, with how the discussion is going now, it doesn't look like it would be the same weekend as this year. It seems most of those participating in the discussion are leaning towards the first weekend in March (hopefully before any AP blackouts and before spring break season).

I am enjoying all the posts. I don't really care when we go. I know that there will be times that I can't go (like this year). But that is life. :)

Tina I agree with the others. March is good. I would hate for you not to be able to come to!! I don't think mom would want to come on her b-day every year. Not that she didn't have a GREAT time, she did but I think she felt bad being away from my dad. Feb OR March is good for me but I want to do it when EVERYONE can come so March works for me. :)

I guess it's up to everyone. We could either let the winning dates stand for the trip next year, or if we pick a fixed week to attend every year, we could start that tradition beginning in 2011.

Something else to discuss. popcorn::

Let's just stick with the winning dates for next year, we've already run two polls. Let's just leave it at that and then we can plan for a set date starting in 2012 if we must.

I wish that I could say that I'm easy and could go anytime, but for some of us that's just not realistic. I get a ton of vacation days each year compared to people who work in the corporate world, but the catch is that I have to plan them around all of the events that make up a college academic year--and that schedule changes every single year. Our spring semester has started anywhere from Jan. 8-21st and then Spring Break, Easter and other events on campus dictate what my calendar looks like from year to year.

I am just really frustrated that we have spent so much time and energy working to find a date that accommodates the most people next year and now that we are less than 24 hours away from the second vote ending, people are trying to negate the results and start over. We just need to commit and stick with it at least for next year. If the end of March dates win for a second time in a week's time, can't we just say that the Divas have spoken and go with it?

Im in a similar boat with Tina here. James father (who I have known for over 20 years), his birthday is 2/29. Becaue he gets jacked on a birthday, they usually take a trip and take us with them to celebrate. I skipped out this year, and dont' think I could keep doing that.

Well I was going to try to stay out of the debate but I just wanted to throw out a suggestion - would there be any benefit to alternating weekends? First weekend of March one year then the last weekend of February the next, then back to March, etc.? That would always avoid the spring break/blockout date issue. Would that make it possible for everyone to have a chance to go at least every other year, and people who don't normally get an AP or make many trips to Disneyland could get an AP every other year and use it twice? Or just pick two different weekends farther apart and alternate between them? But for this year maybe we should stick with the dates we are already voting on. Just some suggestions......I am still new and haven't been as involved as most of you.

I think for 2011 everyone is right that enough energy, drama and time has been put into picking the dates. We've had two votes and whichever wins should be our dates. We can't make everyone happy, we all know this.

And although a set date each year is a good idea (at least according to a half dozen or so of us that posted), if the majority thinks this is the way to go in the future, it would be imposed in 2012. And that's even a big "IF" at this point because as I said, only a few of us have validated the idea as a good one.

Just my opinion since we all seem to be thinking out loud.:goodvibes

Exactly, why have a vote, then a revote and then now skip the vote and go with the set date? But then again the first thread said that unless there was tie there would not be a revote. I must have missed the tie somewhere with the top 2 dates and the no preference date.

I absolutely don't want to negate the results of the vote for next year. Seriously, as I said, I'm going with the flow. :hippie:

Don't everyone get their panties in a bunch. This is just a discussion. Yes, I'm thinking out loud, throwing ideas on the table. That's all....for reals. :goodvibes

I also have to agree with Linda. At this point, it would not be a good idea to just throw out the votes for the dates for 2011. Besides, most of the ladies who voted don't even know this discussion is taking place, and it wouldn't be fair to them to say, "Oh hey, guess what.....we decided your vote doesn't count for next year." You know what I mean?

But to avoid all this for future trips AFTER 2011, I still think picking set dates is a good idea. Since we're discussion it now and it's on the table, we could choose those set dates now and get it over with, so the fun planning can take place from here on out. Or we could put off picking set dates until next year.....or we could just go through this every year (picking dates and voting).

Hee hee, I feel like we're in a little planning committee. :goodvibes

Edited to say - (Although, any discussions on what to do after 2011 should probably be done on the regular planning thread so everyone can be in on it, right?)

Here is our current tally of votes for next years trip.

March 31 - April 4th: 24 (that includes votes for Stacerita's mom and sis, Courtney's mom, and Tina's mom)

April 14 - 18: 21 (that includes a vote for Kelly's mom and wvnative's daughter)

I do have one concern about the AP holders and the scavy hunt though: The AP holders will be blocked out on Saturday, but the scavy hunt really can't happen any other day because many of the Diva's don't arrive until Friday and leave on Sunday. So.......any thoughts about this?

Maybe have the scavy hunt on Friday evening/night? (I think most if not all of the Divas coming on the trip should be there by Friday evening - right?) An evening scavy hunt might be kind of fun.

Too many of the Divas leave Sunday morning, so I didn't think Sunday was a good option.
