Tough question - but its seems that the answer lies in DF's ability to get that extra day off. If DF can swing it, then that is the option I would pick. If that is going to cause a hardship, then do the option with POP and ME. That will save you travel expenses.

Don't worry about flight delays on the way back. You can't control the weather.
