DS just told me they are not playing the chicken dance or YMCA at their wedding reception.

Told him I now have to reconsider about attending. :p :p :p

Shannon, you mean you don't have a band or a DJ playing music at your receptions after the ceremony? I know my BIL was married in Georgia and didn't but i just assumed it was just their choice.

No chicken dance, hoke-pokey or YMCA at my wedding either. But a rogue aunt smuggled in the Tarantella (probably in her support hose or that suitcase sized purse she carries) and all my little old Italian relatives had a great time dancing to that...and a contraband Jerry Vale CD they conned the DJ into playing.

Again...smuggling!

Last wedding I attended, we danced both the chicken dance and the hokey pokey. We also did the train (Come and ride the train, and ride it, toot toot!!!!) Hehe, I had a great time. SO's aunt was geting married. It was in West Virginia (no jokes please!) no she wasn't already related to her husband! HaHa. They were actually from Columbus Ohio but wanted to get married in Wheeling WV at some Olgleby gardens. It was very nice!

We had a band at our wedding. I actually paid them extra to NOT take requests! They told people that they didn't know the song when requests were being made. I didn't want to hear all those typical songs you only hear at weddings.....chicken dance, it's raining men, ymca, alley cat, celebration, etc...

Everyone had a great time in spite of being so culturally deprived by me, the control freak. BUT, I am still hearing from relatives that it was the best wedding they had ever been to!

I never knew about the chicken dance until we did it at my own wedding. I'd never seen it at any friends! :p And I do love the Alley Cat. :Pinkbounc But we didn't to the YMCA.
