Just curious how many would just not go or would not pay for the dining plan. We would go just not do the plan. I am an AP holder so I would look for a room only discount, for FD I stay at the Value resorts but with room only I'd go with a Deluxe resort (maybe).

We are going regardless. I'll just take some time and find another discount to apply to our trip. We've gone for 3 free dining trips, and have paid OOP for DDP another trip, so I would probably pay OOP for DDP again.
I'm not terribly concerned about them not offering free dining. They've already offered it to the UK visitors, there was bounceback for this year, and they've already offered some PIN codes. It may be different than previous years (possibly QSDP for the values), but they'll be some sort of discount to be had.

It took me a while to think what my most accurate answer would be on this poll. In that situation, I would probably pay for it anyway if I had been planning to use it on that trip, as I like the dining plan. Often times it is a better deal to take the discounted room rate and pay for the dining, if it is a good discount (and usually at least a moderate or up). There are only 2 of us so a room discout would be better value overall than 2 dining plans. A family of 4 may find otherwise.

Where's the option for "Be glad as it will probably mean smaller crowds)?

If there wasn't free dining or another really good discount offered we wouldn't go in August / September due to the heat/rain. It's free dining that gets us there at that time of the year!

Considering the results of this poll, Disney would be pretty stupid not to offer it again. The economy still isn't that great. They are competing with harry potter this year (around here that's all anyone is talking about). They even offered discounts for extremely busy weeks like Easter. If they don't offer free dining during hurricane season when most people have kids that just got back to school, I think they are not being very smart about what they are doing. lol. JMHO

I don't think I would ever pay for the DDP. We tend to stay for 10 days at a time so the cost would be rather high as my 2 kids are over age 10. Plus, we just don't eat that much. We have thoroughly enjoyed having the DDP but we don't eat all the food. Last year we had 28 snacks left over and 5 CS credits.

LOL Thanks for reminding me of that. We've always gone the week after Labor Day and though the crowds are not too bad even with FD, I can imagine them with no FD this year. Discounts on rooms during this time are always good. Sept 2004 (year of the hurricanes, Ivan was heading to the Panhandle) we got Poly GV CL for $300 a night tax included. Aug 2003 we got WL CL for $179 a night.
But I do hope they offer it even though I am an AP holder and will still have to buy a ticket.

We'll be going anyway (8/15-8/8/23), and are doing the DDP for the first time. We're excitied about trying some table service restaurants that we've never been to before. So, free dining won't determine whether or not we go, but sure would be a nice bonus!:thumbsup2

I will be going anyway because I have a conference that I am going to. But it will definately make me be very wise with my food money.

It's because of this question that we have booked the free dining bounceback promo the past few years.
We would go anyway during the free diing period. We would probably not pay for the full on DDP, but would probably purchase the QSDP and eat at a few of our favorite TS places and pay out of pocket (Boma and Brown Derby).
What the free diing promo means to us is it gives us the ability to spend more money on other things, as in Photopass CD's, Resort Photo packages, more souvineers, MNSSHP, etc. These purchases would decrease if I was paying for food.
