It still seems eerie that TCD has been unheard on the boards since back in December when he last posted about RC. Maybe they hired Tony Soprano to handle the demolition. He was, after all, into waste management as a profession. Did the Disney suits didn't kiss TCD's cheek and he now sleeps with the fishes. HEAVEN FORBID!! Maybe they made him an offer he can't refuse? Keep outta here?

I have met him on a couple of occasions, but nothing more than a hello and a few words in front of the camper or a pause while looping on the cart.

I met him once we were both on golf carts he was coming out of the 100 loop and I was going in. We talked for about 30 to 60 seconds on the night we checked in. Never saw him again. I do hope he returns to the boards he had the best trip reports.

The word I heard from the fort is that there were vagrants that had snuck into the Fort at night through the woods and were actually living in the dwellings in RC. Since this was a safety issue for all concerned, it was decided to do away with the buildings in order to make them go elsewhere.

you just booked?!! I've been on all night manipulating dates trying to get in for at least 3/26-3/29 and I haven't been able to find anything but cabins... if you had luck i'll keep looking, :) Or find someone that'll let us crash our tent on their site! :)

i haven't been on here since all the talk about the pool construction last spring, and I know TCD helped us out a lot during that time. I hope all is well with them. I will have to read up on some posts, to see what is going on in here! :)

No, TCD was not there. Apparently when TCD went in there, he saw all the damage done by them. They were going in there during the very cold snaps we have been having all winter. They would leave when it warmed up.

There is a link to the photo essay by TCD from Wikipedia if you search for Fort Wilderness River Country. The photos were beyond words. It shocks me that Disney is just letting it rot. I would have expected Disney to do a thorough clearing of the area after closing the water park. Maybe I'm naive and hold Disney in too high of esteem.

I have found that it is best to call to make the reservations. They can try a lot of different dates to get something to work. I have had to make reservations for a month and then call back and cancel what I didn't want.

Just a thought. Hope this helps.

I looked at that week also, but its so close to Easter we couldn't find anything either. I think the dates I found are just before Easter/Spring Break. I booked through the website in the Florida Resident section. Keep trying! GOOD LUCK! :)

All they did was tear down the old Pop's Place quick service and left the restrooms. The pool is still there and the new fencing is up right to the edge of the pool. The pool slides are still there, but they may have taken a scrub brush to them. The rockwork doesn't look completely nasty. I'll have pictures later tonight.

Restrooms stay and NOTHING will be done to RC according to a source that was correct about BLT long before anything was leaked out. I trust my source.

When we visited a couple of weeks back, there was no evidence that anything was happening to the water park section of RC. The area they are working on has become a part of Mickey's Backyard BBQ. I don't know why they would bother taking the boardwalk and gazebo out, but leave all those slides and equipment in RC for everyone to see, and for someone to potentially sneak in and get hurt on.:confused3

Someone had mentioned a while back that there were dump trucks with signs that said "River Country Project" or something, and heavy equipment in place tearing the place apart. Was there in fact anything of the sort, on even a limited scale?:confused:

I guess what I am really trying to do is work myself into a lather over this and find an excuse to make another day trip, looking for some answers. So, so.....there. :rolleyes: Whew!

There was no evidence of construction on the front side, except for one wooden flag stake left in the ground. On the water side, there were still a few posts left sticking up where (I think), the gazebo used to be and the yellow water barriers were still around that.

Those restrooms are used for Mickey's Backyard Barbecue which is in the nearby pavilion and there was a Barbecue that night because when I came back later that evening for the movie/campfire, I could hear it going on.

I attended the back yard BBQ on the 11th. They removed the showers and added more toilets (in the men's room anyway). It looks like they set the area up for use by the back yard BBQ. Some of the characters were greeting guests in the new concrete patio area before the food started.

The above mentioned improvements are the extent of up-grades. The multi-million$ needed for RC are not in the pipe line. My source.

At least there was some cleanup done. TCD's investigative report showed an un-Disneylike location left to rot and deteriorate. Anything is better than that.

Moved down to Fl. in '86 and about the only thing I miss from back north is waking up to freshly fallen snow and the bicyle rides from Hackensack to Bear Mtn. along 9W. Always pretty in the fall. :thumbsup2

I took these last week. I connected four pictures together and smoothed the edges for better viewing. The scale is very close to correct buy not exact. The thing I hadn't seen in other pictures were the blue containers at the right of the picture. These looked like 10-12 of those blue miniature swimming pools. I'm guessing they were for draining the river country pool but why so far from it. Also why not just pump water out to the lake. Any ideas?

If that water has been sitting stagnant all these years there are bound to be some very interesting "organisms" living in there - at the very least some nasty algae, hence the pretty green color. pirate:

Those are pretty typical sediment basins, they will most likely pump water into them and let the junk settle out before draining the water out of them.

I have used a system like that they are a filtering system and yeah you hit the nail on the head, the jist is the bad stuff is left in the bottom and the water is transfered from one to the next until it is safe or meets standards.

I went past there recently, but I didn't see anything going on. And it was a BBQ night, so they had ropes up at the entrance for checking people in. although it would be tempting to jump the fence out by the ticket booth...

We're here at the Fort now, but leaving tomorrow :sad1:. We went investigating around RC, but there's nothing going on. Its pretty quiet around the area, but there are green fences up. Sorry there's not more to report. I did ask a Cast Member, but she didn't know anything.
