Room tax

I can't seem to get my numbers to make sense. Not that it matters....but it's making me crazy with the calculator!!!!:confused:

Does anyone know/have a break down of the different taxes charge on your resort room? I'm looking for percentages I think.

When we stayed at CBR in March, the total tax charged was 11%.

I believe that there is an 11% tax on all the rooms at WDW.

Actually the All Stars are 12% as they are in a different county. All the rest are 11%.

That's correct! Actually the sales tax is different too. While the standard sales tax is 6%, at the A/S and AKL, as well as the AK, the sales tax is 7%. Took me a while to figure this out and had to ask during one of my stays.

I always thought AKL was 12% as well, but when I just went on the disneywold.com site and searched availability for AKL, the room rate was $150 + tax of $16.50 (or 11%).

So now I'm confused. Let's face it whether it's 11% or 12%, it really doesn't matter much.

It doesn't does it?! (Matter I mean...) It just always shocks me when I see and extra $220 on my reservation!!! Gulp! That's a lot of money (my husband would say, not compared to what your paying for the room, what did you expect!)

Most of the resorts have an 11% tax added to the room price. The first 6% is the FL. state tax, and the next 5% is the resort tax. I wonder who gets the resort tax money?!:rolleyes:

jldriscoll, I'm not implying that the tax doesn't matter, obviously, at $16.50 per day in tax, that can add up. But when you compare whether it's 1% more or less, that amounts to a $1.50 per day.

And while I might agree that I could find a better use for $1.50, if that's the determining factor in one's decision on whether they are going to WDW then they might want to re-think their vacation plans.

11 or 12 really doesn't make a difference!!!

We are in agreement!!! Tax would never determine whether we go!!! Once you are willing to pay $2010 for a room....$200 makes very little difference.


Funny thing about our trip, since I presented my husband with a budget for our vacation I've found out there's an extra $200 in tax, our fight will probably be $200 extra dollars and I probably under estimated our spending money by at least $200.

I see you are going in February, have a great trip. I'm hoping we see these kind of codes during that period as well, since that is when I'd like to go (then I can put a countdown clock in my message).

I've thought about splitting a stay between AKL and possibly WL. But finances may only allow AKL and a moderate, i.e. POR. Stayed there in '99 (Oak Manor) and really enjoyed the atmosphere.

I'm not sure when, but likely not during Presidents Week, sounds like that may be too crowded.

The concern I have with February, is not being able to go to TL or BB, and the pools might not be an option. You just never know what you might get, weather-wise that is, in February.

I'll add you to my "buddy" list and contact you if we decide on an actual date.

The resort tax probably gets split up to different agencies in Florida - the state and county, highway maintenance, the local convention and visitors bureau . . . There's no state income tax in Florida; the money to run the state has to come from somebody and as long as there are places like WDW I'm sure the feeling is "let the tourists pay".

11 and 12% is pretty average. Room tax in New Orleans is now 14%. Here in Las Vegas it's 9%. I believe in Anaheim it's 16%. It's a money-making operation for the counties with major tourist attractions.
