03-04-2010, 09:39 PM
Hello all! And welcome!

In September 2009, me and my boyfriend stayed at the Pop Century Resort for 14 nights with the free dining promotion. Let's just say that we ate a lot of really good food.

Let me introduce ourselves

Me - 33 years old and JF (my boyfriend of 5 wonderful years) 30 years old

It's our 2nd trip to Disney, and we will be back for a 3rd time this coming September.

Here are the restaurants we ate at :

A quick note : I did not get the pictures of some of the restaurants. Most of them will be there

Planet Hollywood
Columbia Harbour House
Liberty Tree Tavern
ABC Commissary
Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater
Beaches & Cream
Flame Tree BBQ
Yak & Yeti Restaurant
Sunshine Seasons
Le Cellier

And some snacks

We arrived at 11 am at the Pop Century Resort. We were starving. We heard that the food at the food court was good. So, we decided to give it a try. We were not desapointed.

Parmesan Crusted Chicken

Shrimp Lo Mein

And we both got the famous Tie-dyed Cheesecake

All of our food was very yummy. I would surely eat here again during our next trip.

03-04-2010, 10:03 PM
Yeah, I'm first. I LOVE food reviews. Keep them coming! :cool1:

03-04-2010, 10:22 PM
We ate here twice during our trip. JF loves this place. I think it's a little too loud, but the food is pretty good.

Crab Cakes - Two jumbo lump crabcakes served with mashed potatoes and fresh sautèed vegetables

Crab Cakes - Two jumbo lump crabcakes served with baked potato and fresh sautèed vegetables

The crab cakes were delicious. Another great dining experience.

We did get dessert, but I forgot to take a picture. And I really don't remember what we ate anyway.

03-04-2010, 10:31 PM
We ate here in 2008, and we just love that place. One of the best quick service restaurant in MK.

Me & JF

Anchors Aweigh Sandwich and Fried Shrimp Basket with chocolate cake and yogurt

Excellent food! We always eat on the second floor overlooking the Haunted Mansion.

03-04-2010, 10:44 PM
Another great food experience, Thanksgiving style. The only thing we didn't like was the mac 'n cheese. A little too "artificial" tasting. The rest was very good, we loved the turkey gravy. We had never had that before, so we loved that with turkey. The little rolls they served at first were TO DIE FOR. I couldn't stop eating those. :rotfl:

Tossed Mixed Greens, served with our special Tavern Strawberry Vinaigrette Dressing

Roasted turkey breast, carved beef, and smoked pork loin, with mashed potatoes, seasonal vegetables, herb bread stuffing, and Macaroni and Cheese

We will surely eat here again this year.

We were there last September too during free dining.....We stayed at Movies though.

03-05-2010, 02:11 PM
Thank you all for the wonderful comments! :)

Let's move on with the show...

ABC Commissary was one of the quick service restaurant that we liked the least.

Cheeseburger - with fries and Strawberry Parfait - no sugar added

Fried Fish - battered fried fish served with fries and Chocolate Mousse

My cheeseburger wasn't very good. But, JF did like his fried fish. The only good thing about my meal was the strawberry parfait with no sugar added. That little dessert was delicious. I doubt that we will eat here again this year.

03-05-2010, 02:25 PM
Wow, we both loved that place. We arrived 25 minutes before our reservation and we were seated right away. The service was really great, our server was super nice and she gladly took pictures of us in the little blue car. Our meals were fantastic. The only downside : JF ordered a side of onion rings instead of fries, and I think he got like 3 onion rings. But, he said they were pretty good.

Shrimp Pasta - Bow tie pasta and sauteed shrimp tossed with artichoke hearts, Kalamata olives, baby spinach and feta cheese

Hot Fudge Sundae - vanilla ice cream with hot fudge, whipped cream and a cherry

Smoked St. Louis-style Ribs - Basted with barbecue sauce served with cole slaw and onion rings

Brownie with Ice Cream and Strawberries

All was very good, and it was a fantastic atmosphere. We will eat again at Sci-Fi this year for sure.

03-05-2010, 02:35 PM
Great review so far. Looking forward to more:thumbsup2.

03-05-2010, 03:52 PM
Thanks so much for this review! I really love the pics too. Of course they always make me hungry lol.

Great review and pictures!

Can't wait for more!

03-05-2010, 06:30 PM
We ended up eating at Beaches & Cream around 8 pm as we were in Sea World all day. Let's just say that we were both tired that day, and we were glad that we chose Beaches & Cream as the service was fast, and that's what we needed that day.

The food was really good, nothing out of the ordinary. But, the desserts were TO DIE FOR!!! :rotfl: I've never had such a big sundae in my life.

Turkey Sandwich - Thinly Sliced Deli Roasted Turkey on Multigrain Bun

No Way Jose - A Peanut Butter and Hot Fudge Delight with Chocolate and Vanilla Ice Cream, Peanut Butter and Chocolate Morsels, Whipped Cream and a Cherry

Roast Beef Sub - Grilled Roast Beef with Au Jus and topped with Provolone Cheese, Grilled Onions, and Peppers

Strawberry Shortcake - Slice of Angel Food Cake, Vanilla Ice Cream, Strawberry Topping, Whipped Cream, Rainbow Sprinkles and a Cherry

You see, I didn't know we could take any dessert we wanted off the menu, so having heard so much about the no way jose sundae, I gave it a try. I just didn't know it was that big!!!:scared1: But, oh, it was heaven on earth I tell ya!!!

03-05-2010, 06:40 PM
I love the location of the Flame Tree BBQ. We sat by the water, overlooking Mount Everest. That was a great seating area.

We loved the food, but we had a hard time digesting all the spices they put on the meat!!! :rotfl:

I don't know if I would eat here again because of that. But, the food was good.

The menu

Smoked 1/2 Chicken - served with baked beans and coleslaw

1/2 Slab of St. Louis Ribs - served with baked beans and coleslaw

And for dessert, we both had the key lime pie, which was sublime. One of the best I had during our trip.

We might eat here again in September, we are not sure yet. We might give it another try, as the food was really good. It's just our stomachs didn't like it. :rotfl2:

03-05-2010, 06:52 PM
Another great restaurant, and I think one of the best table service restaurant in Animal Kingdom. I really have nothing to say other than the food was delicious and the restaurant is really beautiful.

Crispy Mahi Mahi - filet of mahi mahi, Japanese bread crumbs, Cantonese sweet and sour sauce, jasmine rice, stir-fried vegetables

Mango Pie - shortbread cookie crust, fresh whipped cream, raspberry sauce

Lo Mein - Lo Mein noodles, carrots, cabbage, green onoins, bean sprouts with shrimp

Fried Wontons - Skewers of fresh pineapple and cream cheese wontons, vanilla ice cream, honey vanilla drizzle

We will eat here again in September, and I will try the fried wontons. JF couldn't stop raving about his dessert all evening. The food was just fresh and really tasty. A great restaurant in Animal Kingdom.

03-05-2010, 07:00 PM
We fell in love with Sunshine Seasons. So much so that we ate here twice and came back a third time for snacks. :lovestruc

The food is fresh and healthy. There's a lot of choices, and everything looks so delicious.

Seared Tuna on Mixed Greens - with Sesame Rice Wine dressing

Key Lime Pie

Rotisserie Pork Chop - with mashed potatoes and carrots

Strawberry Shortcake

03-05-2010, 07:14 PM

Grilled Salmon - with Kalamata Olive Pesto sauce, mashed potatoes and carrots

Key Lime Pie

Rotisserie Half Chicken - with mashed potatoes and carrots

Strawberry Shortcake

And, we decided to spend some snack credits on some of their wonderful desserts:

If I remember correctly, that's the butterfinger cheesecake

And for a third time, the famous Strawberry Shortcake :worship:

Let's just say that we will eat at Sunshine Seasons again this year. I *think* we loved it!!! ;)

03-05-2010, 07:27 PM
If we had to pick one restaurant out of all the ones we ate at, Le Cellier wins without a doubt. That was the best table service restaurant we ate at. :thumbsup2

The bread

We both decided to have a bowl of the famous Canadian Cheddar Cheese Soup

Le Cellier Mushroom Filet Mignon - with wild mushroom risotto, white truffle and herb butter sauce

Chocolate on Chocolate Whiskey Cake - finished with Honey-Thyme Anglaise and a Chocolate-Vanilla Walnut Sauce

New York Strip Steak - topped with bercy butter and served with Gruyere Yukon Gold Potato Gratin

Chocolate "Moose" - Chocolate Mousse rolled in Toasted Chocolate Crumbs with Maple Leaf Antlers

It's on our list as well for our next trip. We loved Le Cellier. The service was excellent and the food was fantastic. It's one restaurant I recommend when eating at the world.

03-05-2010, 07:30 PM
I love your reviews:thumbsup2 I didn't know Sci-Fi would let you sub onion rings for fries. I will have to keep that in mind on my next trip.

03-05-2010, 07:35 PM
The Wilderness Lodge is a wonderful and beautiful hotel. It's worth taking the bus just to visit the hotel. We ate at the Whispering Canyon Cafe. The food was good, but I think it's the atmosphere that sets this restaurant apart from the others. If you have kids, this is a wonderful family restaurant.

We both had the skillet, and we had plenty of food for 2. I forgot to take a picture or our desserts that night. I think I was too distracted by all that was going on. Ketchup anyone? :rotfl2:

Fresh-baked Cornbread

Mixed Greens Salad with Apple Vinaigrette

Smoked Pork Ribs, Pulled Pork, Oven-roasted Chicken, Beef Brisket, Mashed Potatoes, Cowboy Beans, and Corn on the Cob

Sorry about the pic, we already had started eating when I took the picture. :)

03-05-2010, 07:38 PM
Great job!!!! Really giving me ideas!!!!:thumbsup2

03-05-2010, 07:42 PM
We ate here in 2008 and we knew we had to come back. The fish and chips are wonderful. And, that's what we both had. It's on our list this year as well.

Wonderfull cheese bread with Epcot butter balls

Fish and Chips - Battered fresh Cod served with English Chips

Chocolate Scotch Cake - with Chocolate Filling and Scotch Ganache served with Creme Anglaise

Fish and Chips - Battered fresh Cod served with English Chips

No Sugar Added Fruit Trifle

JF is not a diabetic, but somehow he loves the no-sugar added desserts. :)

This year, we would like to make a reservation on the same night as Illuminations and try to have a table outside so we can watch the fireworks as well.

03-05-2010, 07:44 PM
I love your reviews:thumbsup2 I didn't know Sci-Fi would let you sub onion rings for fries. I will have to keep that in mind on my next trip.

They charged 3$ or something for the sub. But, JF thought is was worth it, it's just that he didn't get a lot of them. :)

03-05-2010, 07:49 PM
We hadn't planned on eating at the Backlot Express in Hollywood Studios. We set out to go see Fantasmic, and we thought we would have dinner at Starring Rolls Cafe. We didn't know it closes at 3PM, so we ended up eating at Backlot Express. It wasn't too bad, but not the best meal either. Again, those no-sugar added Strawberry Shortcakes were really delicious. :thumbsup2

We both had the Grilled Turkey & Cheese - with arugula and red peppers served with French fries

03-05-2010, 07:52 PM
Okay, totally off-topic, but I LOVE YOUR HAIR!!! I'm thinking of getting it cut like that...did you find it easy to keep looking nice in the Florida heat? I've got naturally curly hair but am considering a cut like that and straightening it. Wondered if it was high-maintenance...

Thanks...sorry for the girl-talk interruption.

03-05-2010, 07:57 PM
Beautiful restaurant! The colors are vibrant, and the restaurant is really spacious. The pizza is really good too. We ate here in 2008, and we ate here again in 2009 and we will eat here again in 2010. :rotfl:

Unfortunately, I forgot to take a picture of our meals. :sad2: I had the cheese pizza with the apple pie and JF had the pepperoni pizza with the chocolate cake. Both pizzas were fresh and delicious.

03-05-2010, 08:06 PM
This is the only buffet-style restaurant we ate at during our trip. No, sorry. We ate at Chef Mickeys where I forgot to take pictures of our food.

So, this is the second buffet-style restaurant then. We have it plan for our 2010 trip. I loved all the food at Boma, and the restaurant is beautiful. I only took pictures of my plate, this year I will try to take pictures of the buffet instead.

First plate

Second plate

This soup was wonderful, I went back for a second bowl of soup after that plate. :rotfl: It had cheese in it and bacon, that I remember. But, can't find the name anywhere.

Those zebra domes we delicious!!! I went back for seconds after tasting these babies! :thumbsup2

03-05-2010, 08:12 PM
Okay, totally off-topic, but I LOVE YOUR HAIR!!! I'm thinking of getting it cut like that...did you find it easy to keep looking nice in the Florida heat? I've got naturally curly hair but am considering a cut like that and straightening it. Wondered if it was high-maintenance...

Thanks...sorry for the girl-talk interruption.

Thanks!!! :) It was hard to have nice hair in the Florida heat. Most of the time I have my disney cap on, because it was way to hot.

It's really not high-maintenance at all for me since my hair are naturally like that. I just have it cut once every month or two to keep them this way, but other than that I just use my blow dryer and a big round brush and that's how it comes out. I don't even put products in. They just come out like that :rotfl:

03-05-2010, 08:20 PM
We ate another dinner at Planet Hollywood. That's how much JF loves the place.

Shrimp Alfredo - Jumbo shrimp sauteed with garlic, fresh cream, Parmesan and basil served on a bed of linguini

New York Strip - USDA choice 12 oz. strip steak chargrilled to order. Served with baked potato and fresh sautèed vegetables

Dessert for 2

Ghirardelli Double Chocolate Brownie

That baby was oh so good!!! :thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

The first time we ate at Planet Hollywood, they did not give us the dessert menu, instead they told us we had 3 choices of desserts to choose from. This time our server bought us the dessert menu telling us that we could choose any dessert we wanted but it counted for 2 dessert credits. I don't know why we didn't have the choice the first time around. That brownie was more than enough for 2, and it was way better than the dessert we had the first time. Go figure! :confused3

03-05-2010, 08:24 PM
This is the small quick service restaurant right besides the Rose & Crown Pub. We just felt like eating another fish & chips.

The menu

We both had :

Very good, as usual!

03-05-2010, 08:36 PM
The Grand Floridian Resort & Spa is beautiful! We decided to eat at the Grand Floridian Cafe. I was a little desapointed with my meal. I didn't remember I didn't like horseradish and the sauce had a bit in it  and my salad and my bun didn't taste all that fresh either. :sad2: JF loved his steak. And his potatoes were delicious.

The bread

Grand Floridian Burger - Angus Chuck Burger, Lobster, Asparagus and Horseradish-Chive Hollandaise Served with Tomato Salad

New York Strip - with Red Bliss Mashed Potatoes, Haricot Verts and Red Wine Sauce

Dessert for 2

A Sweet Ending to Your Celebration... Dessert Sampler - Tiramisu, Chocolate Mousse, Key Lime Tart, and Lemon Cheesecake

Overall, I enjoyed the restaurant, it's beautiful and the service is great, but I would not order the Grand Floridian Burger again.

03-05-2010, 08:40 PM
What a great little quick service location. We finaly got around to eat at the Starring Rolls Cafe and the food was delicious.

We both had :

Turkey Focaccia - with chips

Breeze from the Keys & Strawberry Parfait

Everything tasted fresh, and we will surely eat here again this year.

03-05-2010, 08:50 PM
I enjoyed Tony's. JF did not. He thought his meal was bland. Mine was delicious. Our server was really friendly, but he kept checking us out and at one point we felt rushed. I don't think we will eat here again this year.

The bread

Shrimp Scampi - Linguini with Sun-Dried Tomatoes and Asparagus tossed in a Garlic sauce

Ice Cream Bomb - chocolate and vanilla ice cream covered in rich chocolate sauce

Chicken Parmigiana - Lightly Breaded Chicken Breast with Marinara sauce topped with Melted Mozzarella over Spaghetti

Tiramisu - espresso soaked lady fingers, whipped mascarpone and dark chocolate shavings

03-05-2010, 08:56 PM
I am in love with Wolfgang Puck Express. I just love that quick service restaurant in Downtown Disney. We ate here in 2008, and we wanted to eat here again this year. And we will eat here again this year. :rotfl:

Mediterranean Vegetable - A savory blend of fresh goat cheese, mozzarella and Grana Padano Parmesan, sautéed zucchini, mushrooms, eggplant and peppers blended with sun-dried tomatoes and rolled in warm, all-natural garlic focaccia bread. Served with organic mixed baby greens and parmesan chips

Frozen Yogurt with strawberry sauce

Rigatoni with Chicken Alfredo - fresh artisan rigatoni tossed in Alfredo sauce and sliced all-natural roasted chicken breast, topped with fresh Grana Padano parmesan

Creme Brulee

Everything was wonderful! :thumbsup2

03-05-2010, 09:04 PM
For our last meal, we ate at Chef de France. Let's just say that we will not eat here again. The service was perfect, but the food was bland. I was really desapointed in that restaurant. :sad2: The one thing we agreed we liked was that we could choose between 3 choices of a 3 course menu.

Soupe a l'oignon gratinee - the classic onion soup topped with Gruyere cheese

Gratin de macaroni - Baked macaroni with cream and gruyere cheese

Profiteroles au chocolat -Puff choux with vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce

Bisque de Homard - Lobster bisque

Demi poulet fermier roti, pommes rissolees et tomate grillee - Half of an all-natural roasted chicken, rissole potatoes and grilled tomato

Creme brulee - Vanilla creme brulee and a madeleine

03-05-2010, 09:18 PM
I like that you got so many pictures... I don't blame you if you missed a few. I've done the same thing! Sometimes you're just hungry... you don't even think about the camera!

I got a kick outta all that strawberry shortcake! I LOVED the strawberry shortcake at Sunshine Seasons... though I can't say that I've ever had more than one in a day! When I went to a conference last year, I got a piece of strawberry shortcake from SS to go, right before I left Epcot to go back to some workshops. I just needed to have a snack for between workshop sessions. Let me tell you, I watched others during our workshop break take out their cheesesticks and granola bars. I took out my strawberry shortcake, and there were quite a few jealous stares! Don't worry, I did my part... I told them where they could get their own. :rotfl:

There is just so much cream in that cheesecake... more cream than cake! That's great with the strawberries! While it tastes so incredible, it's also a bit on the lighter side than other desserts - which leaves a nicer feeling in the stomach than those heavy desserts that taste good but leave you feeling overstuffed.

03-05-2010, 09:18 PM
We had a lot of snacks during our trip and I took pictures of a couple of those wonderful snacks.

Kringla Bakeri og Cafe (Norway)

Sorry, I don't remember the names and I can't seem to find it on the Internet.

The famous Mickey Ice Cream Bar...I had 2 of these during our trip

Boulangerie Patisserie (France)

Chocolate mousse & Strawberry tart

Goofy Candy Company

Those were tasty! :rotfl:

Aloha Isle

Pineapple Float - pineapple Dole Whip with pineapple juice

Starring Rolls Cafe

Marble Cupcake

Breakfast at the Pop Century Food Court

POP Waffle Platter

Breakfast Wrap

That's it all! I hope you enjoyed my reviews and pictures. See you again for another dining review for our upcoming trip in September 2010. :)

03-05-2010, 11:22 PM
Loved all of your pictures and reviews!

We're going to be at Disney at the same time this fall. We arrive Sept. 3rd for 9 nights, also at Pop.

This is the only buffet-style restaurant we ate at during our trip. No, sorry. We ate at Chef Mickeys where I forgot to take pictures of our food.

Holy cow! I am drooling over this Boma food! Now I may have to rethink my ADR's. Darn it - and I was so sure of my picks!! :rotfl:

03-08-2010, 09:31 PM
Boma was soooo good! We will surely eat here again this year. The restaurant is also really beautiful, as well as the hotel. I'm sure you won't regret eating there at all if you make a reservation. :)

03-09-2010, 06:17 PM
We love Sci Fi too! It's the one DD6 asked for over everything else. Even the Castle! :scared1: I'm so excited to try the strawberry shortcake at SS. I LOVE strawberry shortcake and all the pictures I've been seeing of SS's makes me want it NOW!

03-09-2010, 08:26 PM
We're going to be at Disney at the same time this fall. We arrive Sept. 3rd for 9 nights, also at Pop.

Great review....thanks for doing it. I was questioning some of our ADRs but it seems we are spot on!
I also will be there in Sept at Pop but from Sept 5-16. Small world.....after all! :rotfl:

03-20-2010, 10:16 AM
GREAT REVIEWS! I loved that they were to the point and had incredible pictures! Thanks so much for sharing!

03-20-2010, 10:36 AM
Thanks for the pics and reviews.

I really liked your pics and reviews of the sugar-free desserts. I'm not diabetic either, but often prefer sugar-free desserts too (my mom and grandad are diabetic so that has made me more aware of glicemic index and all that)!

What were your snacks at Norway? Were they like a pudding or yogurt?

03-20-2010, 12:21 PM
Great Job!!! Cannot wait to try some cupcakes at Starring Rolls. Just have to get there before 3pm.:)

03-20-2010, 03:16 PM
Thanks for all the great pics! I had several food orgasms while looking through your posts! You definetly helped me make some decisions about where to eat next trip. Weird coincedence, my DH and I were there at the same time as you last year on our honeymoon and we'll be there this year at the same time too! I have to disagree with one review, though. We had an awesome meal at Chefs de France. I had the duck and DH had the steak. And we loved when Remy came and visited us.

03-20-2010, 03:30 PM
Great review!!!!!!!!:thumbsup2 Wonderful pics.!!!!!

We are eating at a few of the places you reviewed!!!

Thank you MellieluvsDisney! I really enjoyed the reviews and pictures.

03-20-2010, 04:54 PM
Loved your reviews!!

We will be in WDW at the same time as you in September this year!

03-20-2010, 05:48 PM
Thanks for the report! I loved all your pictures! Good job.

03-25-2010, 10:40 AM
Loved your pictures. I liked how you arranged them by meals per person - it was nice to view them by one person's complete meal, then the next. :) It was refreshing to read reviews from someone who genuinely enjoyed just about every meal - Disney's not always perfect, but I also have generally good experiences when I go. When it's not a good experience, it's due more times to service than to food. Thanks for the reviews. :thumbsup2

03-25-2010, 10:59 AM
Loved the reviews! I like how you keep it short and sweet makes it so much easier to get thru the whole review..and now Im hungry! LOL
