We just booked from 6/29 - 7/10 with the free QSDP with a pin received. We are staying at POR due to being the only mod. that can accomodate a family of 5. Not a sacrifice for us though, as we have done this on the last two occasions and really enjoy the resort. Would love to stay at a deluxe (did YC once), but we'd rather spend the extra staying longer! After crunching all the #'s, this pin saves us so much over any other discount for these dates!
I've noticed that a couple of the CS locations do not really have desserts. For instance, Yorkshire County Fish Shop in Epcot lists only shortbread if this is considered dessert. From reading the posts, I believe that we would have to get dessert at the same time as the meal. In that case I would be better to take a good look at the desserts on the menus, as well as the meals, before deciding which CS's to go to. Is this correct? Can't wait to take the boat DTD to Earl of Grey thanks to reading these boards!

Yes, you are correct. Dessert needs to be ordered at the same time as the meal, since the meal plan is applied by meal, not by individual component of the meal.
Have fun planning!

There would be NO WAY I would choose a CS restaurant based on a dessert. Honestly, I don't think that most of the CS desserts are even worth the calories. So many of them are just plain awful! To tell you the truth, I would take a shortbread cookie over most of them any day.

I would choose a meal that I wanted to eat over the dessert that came with it. However, I think (not positive though) that in MK for example, some of the counter service locations might have some of the same meals but different desserts. I don't normally have dessert with my meals at home, but we all seem to get hungry on vacation for some reason!
I'm not limited to any particular desserts when doing CS at POR am I? I do enjoy the desserts there. I briefly thought of upgrading to the DDP, but I don't want to plan a sit down everyday. We will probably do a character meal and a sit down meal or two, but that is it. Love planning, but am not enjoying the airfare portion from MA this year! Come on SW!

I agree. The desserts at most counter service locations are rather unappetizing. The one time my family and I used a dining plan, we wound up tossing them after barely taking a bite. I wouldn't plan my meals around the desserts. There are too many delicious counter service locations with lackluster to desserts to schedule that way.
The one exception to this rule is Sunshine Seasons in The Land pavilion of Epcot. The bakery section there is so delicious that it is worth spending at least one credit there during the course of your vacation. It doesn't hurt that the regular menu options are almost as tasty.
Good luck, and have fun!

Sunshine Seasons and the cs in France are both places we hope to use our credits. I also want to use a snack credit in Norway I believe. Hope I walk off the calories! Wish I could sweat them off like we will the beverages. popcorn::

Sunshine Seasons definitely has the best options for dessert. The strawberry shortcake is very tasty! My husband loved the peanut butter cheesecake and my son was devouring his chocolate mousse cake. :)
I also liked the chocolate mousse at Flame Tree BBQ. It was better than I was expecting. The carrot cake at Cosmic Ray's is also pretty good. I'm not a huge dessert fan so if I can I will ask for fruit or yogurt instead. My husband on the other hand will always take the dessert option ;)

AK is one place that we have never tried any cs or restaurant, so I will keep Flame Tree BBQ in mind. Cosmic Ray's or Columbia Harbour House (think this is the name) are our favorite cs's in MK. The chicken is actually good at Cosmic Ray's. I probably will opt for a yogurt or fruit on occasion also, but the kids will love dessert. We tend not to eat a lot between meals and probably will use our snack credits for a breakfast item on the run. Other days we will just have cereal in our room or I'll bring bagels to toast in the POR food court.
Anyone with suggestions for cs meal at DHS? We have only eaten sit down meals there.

Starring Rolls in DHS also has great sandwiches & delicious desserts.

We stayed at POR last summer and we were allowed to choose a tasty item from the bakery for dessert, or any of the snack items including drinks, large container of grapes, veggies and dip, etc. It may depend on the person at the register though.

I hope it will work out that way! I didn't mind the desserts at POR when we visited 2 years ago. I don't mind fruit, etc., but sometimes we just love to have something sweet, especially after the sun sets and it has cooled down a bit.
Thanks

At the water parks, you can order an ice cream with your meal and tell the CM that you want to pick up your ice cream after you eat your meal. That works really well. You just bring your receipt back and they give you the ice cream.
