I find rental cars to be expensive in France. Anyone have any tricks for getting a good price?

I've always used the Ryanair website and click on their cheap car hire tab and then click on special offers. They often have 20 -30% off if you book a month or more in advance. I've always found them the cheapest.

We were being charge €18/day a couple of years back for Super Collision Damage Waiver by Avis. I'd declined it before in Tenerife and then scratched the car door on a post in an underground car park - €650 mistake not to have it!

We used www.insurance4carhire.com to get a third party SCDW policy for £49 that covers you for the whole year.

Only really worth it if you hire for 7 days or more but their worldwide annual one is great for the USA where SCDW can double the hire price.

We hired a car last time using air miles which was why we had to use Avis. Might be worth checking if you can do it through Tesco vouchers if you have them as they can work out cheaper.
