Nassau stinks for shopping. Way over priced! Tell her we'll hold out together until 2012. No guarentees I'll make it! I'll probably need therapy by then!

Oh wait... I work right across the street from the diamond district, I can start taking orders now! LOL $$$$

I wouldn't worry about my guy in St. Marteen, he'll be just fine... We're booked with DCL for this August, but the price is crazy for 5 days. I can save $2k by switching to Carnival Dream. 7 night cruise, brand new ship and it's double the size of the Magic. Guess where it goes... St. Marteen!

Carnival doesnt let you bring on your own alcohol, so the 2k you save would only end up going toward your bar bill!

From CNN:

Fake front page brings paper Disney dollars, debate

Los Angeles, California (CNN) -- At first glance of Friday's Los Angeles Times, you might think the Mad Hatter has taken over the newspaper.

Johnny Depp's colorful character in Disney's new film "Alice in Wonderland" dominates a faked front page, which includes the paper's traditional flag and two stories that appeared in the paper last month.

Los Angeles Times spokesman John Conroy said the "cover-wrap" was an "unusual opportunity to stretch the usual boundaries and design an innovative ad designed to create buzz."

Roy Peter Clark, a senior journalism scholar at the Poynter Institute, said tough economic times and lower ads sales have forced newspapers to tear down the ethics wall that separated a paper's front page from advertisers.

"The wall became in recent years a fence, but the Los Angeles Times has created a swinging gate," Clark said.

"What offends my traditional sensibilities is the notion that you would be willing to deceive the reader into thinking that this was the actual front page," Clark said.

Although Conroy said readers would not be confused by the fake front, several journalists in CNN's Los Angeles bureau did not immediately realize that the real front page was inside.

A Times reader who works for a movie marketing company in Hollywood said he felt deceived by the ad. He asked not to be identified because his company, which was not involved in the Disney campaign, deals with the newspaper.

"We propose these kinds of ads all the time but have never gotten them approved," he said. "I don't always agree with what we do."

He estimated that the ad would cost "well over $100,000."

Conroy would not disclose the price, but he said, "Our front page section is our most valued real estate. The ad was priced accordingly."

The use of real newspaper stories, published previously in the newspaper, to make the ad appear to be a real front page is another issue, Clark said.

"I'm particularly nervous about them running fake stories that are really real stories," he said. "That seems like a misappropriation of the journalism in the newspaper."

An online search revealed that the article on the left column -- headlined "To take reins on health proposal" -- was a slightly altered version of a story written by Tribune Co. Washington reporter Noam Levey. It was published February 18.

The second article, appearing on the right column of the Disney ad, was headlined "Major Afghan Figure Caught." The original story was published February 19, with the bylines of Times foreign correspondent Laura King and Moscow bureau chief Alex Rodriguez.

"If I had written one of those stories, I would be pissed," Clark said.

CNN has received no response from e-mails and calls to the three journalists.

Although they may not be pleased with their work being used in a movie ad -- without the byline -- they have jobs while many of their co-workers have been laid off.

The Tribune Publishing Co., the paper's parent, has ordered several rounds of staff cuts at its newspapers and bureau in recent years. Some have left in protest of changes in editorial practices aimed at boosting revenue, Clark said.

"There's been one editor after another that's walked out the door because they didn't want to cave in to pressure from the top to do the wrong thing," Clark said.

What he might have objected to five years ago, he could now accept it helps papers survive, Clark said. But not if it confuses editorial content with ads, he said.

"Every time I see a big ad in my local newspaper I send up a little cheer," he said.

When HBO paid the newspaper for a wrap-around ad last summer, for the vampire series "True Blood," it was not mixed with the flag or editorial content.

The Los Angeles Times drew criticism in April when it sold NBC the right column of its front page, where a lead story is normally placed. The network used the space to advertise the debut of its "Southland" series.

Hey guys I have to vent.

I saw a 42" HD tv on sale on HSN Presidents' Day and had to have it. On 2/18 it arrives but it obviously it has been opened before so I call them and ask to return it. They tell me that manufacturer has to send a shipping label because the tv should have been new. HSN promises to hold a tv for me and will ship when I send the tv back to the manufacturer.

10 days and several calls go by before they pick the tv up. Four days later UPS says it has arrived back at the manufacturer. Now HSN calls and says that my tv is on back order and that it should come in after April 9th:scared1:

I can cancel if I want for a $5.00 coupon that I must use in 30 days:confused3

I called and cancelled taking this as a sign that I didn't need it:thumbsup2

The funniest part is that the tv that I was replacing stopped cutting off when I increased the brightness of the screen.

Wow, that does sound like a good deal. I've heard about these offers online. But, never tried one. I would avoid ebay!

We're going to WDW in August for a week before our cruise. I have no clue how much we're paying for tickets (I probably should check). I know we had to buy a one day park pass for the three of us to get a pacakge deal. If anyone is interested... we booked Wilderness Lodge Club Level for 40% off a night. Now, that's a deal!!!

If you've been thinking about a trip to WDW I would act soon. The deals and steals we've seen the last two years will be going away next year in my opinion. Last week Bank of America upgraded Disney from neutral to buy based on expectations for 2011. I don't think we'll see 4/3 deals, 40% off or free dinning again for quite some time.

p.s.... Joe, QVC has a tv on sale today!!!!:lmao::lmao:

Remember the mess Disney/ABC made of the Oscars last Sunday... maybe the time has come.

CEO Robert Iger decides to keep Disney's options open...

Walt Disney CEO Robert Iger caught company shareholders off guard with a surprise announcement this Wednesday. He confirmed rumors that an ABC “spin-off” is a possibility. While Iger assured investors that Disney is “comfortable” with its current range of assets, he admitted that executives are hesitant to prolong the relationship between ABC and Disney.

The Walt Disney Co. first acquired the ABC network in 1996, and quickly reorganized the broadcasting group. But despite Disney’s efforts at micro-management, ABC’s ratings saw several significant slumps over the years.

“There are no guarantees in terms of what will remain part of our company and what will not,” Iger said when pressed for further details at a shareholders’ meeting.

The announcement comes as no surprise to analysts who have tracked ABC’s rapid decline the past few years. Hindered by its struggling news division, the TV network has failed to move in a direction indicative of financial sustainability or groundbreaking creativity.

“ABC doesn’t add a lot of value to Disney’s other divisions,” analyst Michael Nathanson said in an interview with Reuters.

However, ABC News has soldiered on, and recently cut more than 300 jobs as part of a campaign to refocus and recapture viewers. The possibility of an ABC spin-off is further diminished by the somewhat fortunate timing of the cable dispute.

If the battle over retransmission fees ends with a victory for the networks, the value of ABC is expected to increase, effectively securing the future of the Disney-ABC relationship

My DMIL is great:thumbsup2 She kept 2 of my DD's in one of the connecting cabins while we had the youngest in our cabin.

We had other adults with our group so we rarely saw her except at dinner, shows and when it was time to go to sleep.

One night I took the kids to the movies and she went to the adult hypnotist show with the rest of the adults in our group.

She also loved the Cove and the adult area. Her only complaint is that the ship didn't have a casino.

She's traveling with her girlfriends on RCL doing the Mexican Riveria this spring.

Hey All!

Yup, I'm here. When I'm in NY I usually don't have time to post. Especially these last few days with health care. No comments!!! I've heard enough pundits on this subject to last me a lifetime.

Yes, Joe I agree, it was a beautiful weekend! NYC was beautiful Thursday through Sunday. Day off today!!

Booked our Carnival cruise on Friday. We're taking this year off from Mickey, too expensive. We got a great deal on the Carnival Dream. I guess I can always say I'll be the first one on the Dream! LOL

Busy week ahead, but aren't they all. I've got a killer schedule coming up... UGH!!!! I don't get a break until after Easter.

Let's hope we get more Spring, I'm sick of muddy paws on the dogs!

It has been a crazy few weeks here. DD hurt her shoulder awhile ago and PT hasn't helped, so she will be having shoulder surgery on 4/22. She will need to be in a sling with her arm immobilized 4-6 weeks:scared1: I will definitely be stocking up on the wine for this!!

I had a job interview last week- my first phone interview. It was last friday; the weather was so beautiful and the interview was with 2 women in NYC. Twice we had to stop because of the blaring fire trucks in their background- I swear they must have been interviewing me while having cocktails at some outdoor bar somewhere:goodvibes
It sounds like a great job, but for now they only want temporary staff- it may still be worth taking if they offer it to me, as you never know what contacts it can bring...and it will add to the vacation fund!

Leaving tomorrow to go to the Great Escape Lodge. It is a beautiful hotel with an indoor water park. Michele, have you ever been there? It is a fun time- going there makes you feel like you are on vacation!

Hope everyone is doing well!

We have a Great Wolf Lodge here in Washington, an hour outside of Seattle that is just like your Great Escape Lodge. DD and I are going there after she gets out of school on the last day with some friends. They have gone the last 2 years. They get there, check in, go straight to the water park and hang out there. They spend the night at the hotel and then spend the whole next day at the waterpark til closing time. They have to check out of the hotel, but have water park privileges for the rest of the day. Haven't told DD yet, but she has been asking if we can go.

Joann, sorry to hear about your daughter. Wishing her speedy healing after her surgery.

I have heard about the Great Wolf- would like to check out one of those as well. We all had a great time at great escape- the water was a bit chilly for my liking, though- it's amazing, though, how the kids don't seem to mind it. They swam for awhile, but seemed more excited about playing hotel tag! I am suprised we didn't get asked to leave!!! I will have to make future reservations under someone else's name!!

Disney Dream Update - From Another Forum

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Disney Dream to Feature Onboard Enchanted Art Program

An Enchanted Art program, a ship-wide detective game, virtual portholes and dinner “undersea” with Crush, the surfer dude turtle from “Finding Nemo,” are some of the new technology-based attractions in store aboard the 128,000-ton, 4,000-passenger Disney Dream cruise ship, which is scheduled to launch next January.

The goal is the same as that of Disney’s theme parks: “It’s all about storytelling,” said Bob Zalk, senior show producer. However, on a ship, “guests are living with us, so we have to provide more depth in the experience,” he added. To that end, the Enchanted Art program, which features 22 pieces interspersed with regular art throughout the ship, consists of framed pictures that are actually LCD screens with animation. The pictures come to life via an optical trigger, when a guest pauses in front of a piece to look at it. For example, an “oil painting” of the “Minnie Lisa” blinks while birds fly by in the background, and two side-by-side “paintings” of pirate ships engage in a battle with ammunition flying between the two. The program also features black-and-white photos, travel posters, animation cels and other formats. Guests also can control the animation in some pieces, like a picture of a cove with a ship’s wheel in front. Push the start button, turn the wheel and direct Captain Hook’s ship around the cove to trigger things like a rainbow.

The Enchanted Art program also plays role in the new Detective Adventure game, which challenges guests to solve one of two cases -- stolen paintings or kidnapped Dalmatian puppies. After signing in at a kiosk, guests receive a list of six possible villains, a ship map and a “magical” card called a “detective device.” Hold the card up to certain pieces, and the picture slides away to reveal a surprise, like a door with a key. Then, move the card around through the air in front of you to manipulate the scene; for example, to put the key in the lock and turn it to open the door for a clue or one of the missing items. The game, which is designed to promote family bonding and empowerment for kids, is self-paced, so guests can stop, and then pick up where they left off, whenever they want throughout the cruise. And they can go in any order they choose and play as many times as they want, since the game is different every time.

Imagineers also are putting a twist on Animator’s Palate, the main dining venue, with “Undersea Magic,” an interactive dinner show where guests converse with Crush the sea turtle. The show will be based on “Turtle Talk” from Walt Disney World and other Disney Parks, where Crush converses live with guests. Animator’s Palate, which will seat 700 guests (the Magic and Wonder each seat 400) will have 129 hidden LCD monitors imbedded into the walls. Approximately 20 minutes into dinner, lighting and sounds will make it seem like the dining room is underwater, as the LCD screens are unveiled to show an undersea world, as if they were windows. Crush and other “Finding Nemo” characters will swim from screen to screen talking with guests. Crush will even remember kids’ names from the children’s programs, since he will have met them via a large LCD screen in those areas earlier. While Crush and his pals are talking with people in one area of the restaurant, guests in other areas are entertained by sea creatures, like a school of fish that forms different shapes. During the finale, Crush teaches guests how to surf the East Australian Current, complete with surf music.

This looks great:thumbsup2 Looks like Disney is pulling out all the bells and whistles for their new ships. When these ships come out they will be heads and shoulders above any other cruise ships.

On another note,

I visited Duke University today while on my College Tour and the campus is buzzzing due to their participation in the Final Four. I got a T-shirt at the school and we will be visiting UNC - Chapel Hill tomorrow before returning to Philly tomorrow night.

10-year-old boy was killed this afternoon after he was struck by a bus near Fort Wilderness on Walt Disney World property, the Florida Highway Patrol confirmed.

FHP and Reedy Creek Fire Rescue are investigating.

Disney had no immediate comment.

This is the third bus-related incident at Disney in six months.

Are the bus drivers Disney employees or do they work for Mears like the DCL buses:confused3

That is a terrible thing to think that a boy going on Spring Break from school dies on vacation. I feel for his family and classmates.

Things have been quiet here. We have been loving this nice weather. We had family over for the weekend and got to BBQ ... It is not often that you can BBQ Easter weekend. Unfortunatly I was one of the people in need of a tan! I need a cruise to help my color along.
Kids are on spring break so I have the week off to spend with them:scared1:

What's up DCL Peeps!! Yeah, I'm alive... I know, i turn up like a bad penny! LOL

I have been going 110 mph, but what else is new? I did get a day off on Monday and took Mikayla and my Mom to NYC to act like tourists. It was so hot, Mikayla melted. She felt awful by the end of the day. But managed to spend plenty of my money. LOL

Weather is Beautiful here today, but the weather gods say it's not going to last.

Joanne, so sorry to hear about your daughter. I can't imagine being in a sling for that long, poor girl. Poor MOM! I hope you got to enjoy the Great Escape Lodge, I've only been there on media tours. Looks nice, but never got to play. I'm sure you had a great time! What was the job interview? Anything good? Any good news? Pour me some wine too!

I'm trying for a huge promotion at work, it would be jumping a number of slots, I seriously doubt I'll get it, but it's worth a try. Right?!

I found an interesting article for anyone crusising this summer... I love it when weather people argue about being wrong. It's the only job in the world you can be wrong 70% of the time and still get a raise and a promotion...

CSU Issues 2010 Atlantic Hurricane Outlook
by weather.com
The Colorado State University forecast team, led by Dr. Philip J. Klotzbach, predicts an above average 2010 Atlantic basin hurricane season.

The team has increased its forecast from December 2009 and now anticipates 15 named storms forming in the Atlantic basin between June 1 and Nov. 30.

Eight of the storms are predicted to become hurricanes, and of those eight, four are expected to develop into intense or major hurricanes (Saffir/Simpson category 3-4-5) with sustained winds of 111 mph or greater.

"We expect current moderate El Nino conditions to transition to neutral conditions by this year’s hurricane season.

The predicted weakening of El Nino conditions combined with a very strong anomalous warming of the tropical Atlantic are the primary reasons why we are increasing our forecast."

Here at weather.com and The Weather Channel we offer a position on hurricane season outlooks based on three points:

A few years ago, TWC senior meteorologist Stu Ostro wrote about his strong feelings on hurricane season outlooks. Stu calls them flat out "useless".

There there is the part of the CSU seasonal outlook that the general public are interested in most - where will the hurricanes hit?

Probabilities for at least 1 major hurricane landfall by coastal area:

Entire U.S. coastline: 69% (average for the last century is 52%)
U.S. East coast including Florida peninsula: 45% (average for last century is 31%)
Gulf Coast from the Florida Panhandle westward to Brownsville, TX: 44% (average for last century is 30%)

Unfortunately, this landfall probability forecast is HIGHLY unreliable and there is little skill in this area.

**Remember to be prepared equally each and every year.**

Anyone get a mailing from DCL today?

I got a Bon Voyage packet talking about Bahamian Cruise Vacations. All the basic stuff that folks who haven't taken a cruise need to know.

They also give you your reservation number and dates to remember.

Of course it was address to my wife, but I opened it since I'm paying the bill:rotfl:

I got my DCL mail also. It was nice to stop and think about our trip as it seems so far away. We are doing Universal Studios in August, but I would rather be cruising, that's for sure. We will be at Universal 8/12-8/16.

As for my job interview, it was so hard to know how I did, and I had not heard back from anyone so assumed I did not get it....but they called me on wednesday and gave me the job:banana: It's is a great opportunity, but only a temporary job for about 4 months. so things will be crazy at my house as I will be working two jobs. I am hoping this new job will lead to future permanent work in 2011. My job that I am in is only guaranteed until 2011, so I need to work on some back up options. I am going to be part of a new state organization called Quality Stars, that will rate child care centers- the higher the rating, the more funding they can get. It is a great program for child care centers- hopefully their funding will remain. ( I don't have much faith in NY's governor for some reason!)

Am hoping for a quick return of the nicer weather...it has really gotten cold out and we have gotten spoiled lately!

Enjoy the rest of the weekend...we have all been on a good run lately- up to page 5 already!!!

This is too funny... you'll be at Universal on 8/12-8/16... We're booked at WDW 8/7-8/14 and are planning a day trip to Universal... maybe we can meet up. We're spending our week with a family we meet two years ago on DCL, we've stayed friends ever since. It's so nice to meet people like all of you...

SOME JUICY DETAILS ABOUT POC4...

BEIJING, April 18 -- French actress Astrid Berges-Frisbey will join the shooting of Walt Disney's film "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" and play a mermaid named Syrena in the forth "Pirates" story, Sina.com reports.

The 23-year-old actress who is a Paris native has appeared in the French films "La Fille du Puisatier," "La Premiere Etoile" and "Un Barrage Contre le Pacifique" as well as the stage play "Equus." "Pirates of the Caribbean 4" is her first English-language film.

The first three "Pirates of the Caribbean" movies were directed by Gore Verbinski, who presented the mysterious and risky adventures of Captain Jack and his mates. With actor Johnny Depp in the starring role, the films were hugely successful at box offices.

The new film is scheduled to begin shooting in Hawaii in June, followed by Los Angeles and the United Kingdom.

The lead actors of the previous "Pirates" movies-Orlando Bloom, who played Will Turner, and Keira Knightley, who played Elizabeth, will not appear in the new sequel, which will focus on Captain Jack.

Rob Marshall, known for his direction of the films "Chicago" and "Nine," will direct the new film. Johnny Depp will play Captain Jack, while Geoffrey Rush will play Hector Barbossa. Spanish actress Penelope Cruz and British actor Ian McShane will play two new characters—Black Mustache and his daughter, while British actor Stephen Graham will play "Scram". No further details about the new characters have been released.

"Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" is scheduled for public release on May 20, 2011.

ZOMG, so am I... uh, ahem, I mean, my son is quite fond of Harry Potter as well and has been asking to go there. ;)

Unfortunately, we won't be going very far this summer as my DH is starting a new business venture. For anyone who did FE's last time we gave the kids a toy "Bean" and the adults a Bean keychain. Those are from the toy company my hubby co-owns. They pitched the idea of a potential tv show/movie/books to some "money people" last week and they said they wanted to do business. That's the reason DH said I could finally book this cruise. Well that and my constant badgering. "You know, the rooms are selling out." "You know, the price is going up." "You know, a lot of the great cruisers from our last one will be there." "You know, we could always cancel or move the date if things get tight." "You know, I'm not gonna stop til you say ok."

In the meantime we need to now work out contracts and development and other business buzzwords I can't pretend to understand. So my son and I might visit family out in AZ but otherwise we are sticking to the "staycation" this year. BUT if things go crazy with the Beans, I am booking us into somewhere in Orlando either before or after because dern it, I need to get me some of that Butterbeer from Hogsmeade. I mean, uh, my son... oh screw it. It's me.

The wristlet is $46 and the bags go up to $220. I'm sure they will have them.
We got our park bags through WDW merchandise. I called before Christmas and ordered them... I wonder if you can order the cruise bags the same way? I'm always seeming posts from people ordering stuff after they get off the ship. I'm sure they will have them when we sail next summer. But, I have to admit I would look like a major dork carrying that around NYC. LOL!!

Ok, I really have to work now... there's a volcano calling my name, screwing up DCL's med plans to boot.

Peace Out!

This is an example of one but I had a variety of them. They all have the same shape and a hat.

You guys had quite the run going on here and I missed out on it!! It is great to see some more people onboard!! At this rate, maybe we will hit page 20 by the time we cruise:rotfl:

Yesterday we were at the Bronx Zoo with Johnny's cub scouts. Luckily the rain held off. I was dreading spending the day around smelly animals and muddy, cranky kids....but thankfully it worked out well (no alcohol was needed!)

Gillian's surgery is the 22nd and my other job starts on the 26th, so the craziness will be starting soon. Thanks for the kind words, everyone!

I am getting really excited for Universal- how great would that be to meet up!! Because of the new job, our summer treat for the kids is that after universal we will be going to the Nick Hotel for 2 days (sorry disney) It looks like so much fun- has anyone ever gone?

Michele, I was thinking of you on Friday as I was on hold for 20 minutes with SWA's corporate office in texas. For the first time, we had travel credit vouchers, I thought I had until mid Aug to use the credit, but unfortunatley I have until July 19th and they won't extend it until my August flight. the credit is only $155- I could not believe that they would not give it to me.

So, if any of you know anyone that is booking a flight on SWA prior to July 19and would be willing to buy them off of me, let me know!!

Have a great day everyone!!

Hello everyone,

Hope everyone is well. I went to the Penn Relays today. Had a great time. Had to leave early when the weather started to get cloudy and chilly.

My oldest DD's phone broke so I bought a new I phone and she got my blackberry until July when her contract renews. That child can text:scared1:

Where is everybody?!?! I thought we were all gaining some momentum?

This seems to be a crazy time of year, doesn't it? Gillian's shoulder surgery was a success, and she is starting to feel much better- it was a rough week, but we made it through!

anyone have any good plans for Mother's Day??

Hello and Happy Mother's Day to all you Moms!

Story of my life, busy at work... I don't even have time to think about vacation, let alone my next meal.

Joe, the internet is a visual medium, pictures please from the prom!

JoAnn, so glad Gillian is doing well.

Mojo, too bad about donating all your money to charity, get your butt on this cruise. The heck with the kids!

Doing some surfing, on the company dime... the latest and greatest Disney news I could find... not much! LOL

Michele

So... you spend thousands on a cruise... this is how DCL keeps you entertained, with a paint brush???!!!

Cast and crew members working at Disney Cruise Line are always looking for ways to give back, not only by volunteering their own time for community service projects, but through inspiring others to do the same. Disney VoluntEARS, along with the Foundation for Hospital Art, did just that during the Disney Magic’s venture across the Atlantic Ocean last week, as our second season of Mediterranean cruises began. Some 300 guests sailing aboard the ship had a unique opportunity to participate along-side crew members at the first-ever “PaintFest At Sea.” Collectively guests and crew members gave nearly 700 hours of their time to hand paint a pre-drawn Disney character mural for donating to the children’s area of the Vall d’Hebron hospital in Barcelona.

Arrgh, Matey! You all know how much I love Pirates of the Caribbean... maybe I'll marry Eric all over again....

Do you find yourself humming the Pirates of the Caribbean theme song? Does X mark the spot? Then this unique take on a wedding reception might be right up your alley. Invite Pirate Mickey and friends to a pirate-themed wedding reception, complete with buried treasure, skull and crossbones!

Joe

Joe,

It's easy... I walk from Albany to NYC everyday! :lmao::lmao::lmao:

No, seriously... I began dropping the pounds in December when I started working in NYC. I noticed, hey, this isn't bad... walking 16 to 38 blocks a day helps... so do calories posted on menus... i didn't know how much crap I was eating.

It's nice to step on the scale every morning and smile!!

The only problem is my shopping budget... nothing fits and when I do buy new clothes in a few weeks they don't fit. Frustrating, but worth it.

Congrats Joe!!! Those are big accomplishments, getting the kids graduated and moving on. DD's last day of school is Thursday, till 11 am, not really sure why they torture us with these 1/2 days. Wed is a 1/2 day too. The fun part of the last day is the moving up ceremony where the kids thank their current teacher and let the next year's teacher know they are ready for her/him. a young friend was trying to say that they should have 4 months off. I told her that was way too long and if she added all the days they have off during the school year, they were only going to school for 8 months :rotfl2:

We are hanging out at home this year unless something changes. Trying to get a good deal for next mid winter break with kids sail free to Mexican Riveria. Prices went from $1500 to $3200 overnight!!! Gonna keep tryi8ng to see if I can get a cheaper stateroom, back down to $1500 would be great!! It would be me, DD, girl friend and her dd. They have never cruised DCL before. My DMIL did RCL Mexican Riveria in the spring of this year. She said that she would never do it again. While the ports were fine and the weather was warm, she said that the sea days were lousy.

It was so cold and windy that you couldn't go out on the deck. The pool was closed because of the weather and she couldn't use her veranda.

School ends for us next thursday...then the camps and outings will begin. We will be sticking close to home until 8/12 when we leave for the Hard Rock at Universal! Hello All!

Checking in with my Dis peeps!

School ends next Friday for us. I'm ready to spend the summer with Mikayla and she's so over 2nd grade. LOL.

We joined our country club, again and plan to spend our days by the pool, unless I'm working.

We're getting excited about our vaction. We'll be in WDW August 7 through the 14th. I just bought our airfare, $1100! The most we have ever paid!!! Prices are stupid!! Our Disney payment is due next week, that will hurt! I still have a ton of Disney planning to do!!!

The cruise is paid off. We sail August 14th on Carnival's Dream. Should be interesting. I've done some shopping for resort wear (sounds better than saying Target and Macy's). We're doing the Eastern again, but we love it!! Hopefully Carnival will meet our expectations after years of DCL.

I can't believe so many of us will be in Florida at the same time and won't get to see each other. How sad. Audrey and her clan will be with us at Disney and we're VERY excited about that. Audrey, we have to chat soon!

NYC is great, love the job. Hate the commute. I sound like a broken record. It's suppose to get hot this week, the city stinks, literally, in the summer. I want to hand out soap to the homeless people.

See you on the boards!

School is over for us this Friday. Poor DS has an Honors Physics final on the very last day of school!! Harsh! (that is a quote :) )

I wish our Summer break lasted 3 months, this year it is more like 9.5 weeks! I can't believe that I just got an invitation to a July 4th party and we aren't even done school yet!

Unfortunately for us, this is a Disney-free year! :( But we'll get to do it up right next year! We'll be doing day trips, and FINALLY visiting the Philadelphia Museum of Art (I've visited the Met, the Guggenheim, a dozen other large museums and living less than an hour from Philly for most of my life - NEVER visited the Art Museum!) Visiting family in New England, and a trip to Williamsburg, and a few Revolutionary battle sites (gotta throw in a little education over the summer - since DS loves history - NOT!).

Hello All,

We are home this summer. We had to cancel our road trip to Banf for right after school got out. I have 2 staff members that are out for cancer treatments. T keeps reminding me that I can't book another DCL cruise till we take the Holland America cruise that we bought at the school auction. Crazy but true, I can't believe I actually bought another cruise, must have been the free flowing alcohol.

We kept E out of camp for the 1st week of school and then went to hang with friends for a couple of days. She will be doing camp from school and other camps for the rest of the summer. T is hoping we can still get a trip in before we go back to school. Unfortunately it will be a Disney free summer

This heat is terrible! Can't imagine what your walk to work is like!! I guess we should get used to this, as this is what Florida will be like next month! Still can't believe vacation is next month...I feel like the summer is slipping away already. I am still trying to finalize my hotel for the last two days of our trip. Was going to take the kids to the Nick Hotel, but the more I look into it, I hear bad things about it. Any ideas on a fun hotel to spend the last two days?? The heat stinks and so does the city!!!

I am soooo N.O.T. ready for this vacation either. Working is really cramping my style. How the heck am I suppose to pack 11 pairs of shoes and commute to NYC? LOL I have done NOTHING!!! for our cruise and we sail in less than a month.

Have you considered a hotel along the coast? I hear the rooms on the gulf side are really cheap! Yeah, that's my news humor for the day.

The Wonder will be out. She leaves on Tuesday, August 12th. That's one reason we're not doing DCL this summer, only 5 night cruises.:confused3

However, on Saturday August 14th the Carnival Dream will be in port and I'll be getting on it!!!! :cool1::cool1:

I haven't done the NASA tour, but Eric did. He loved it. Last year we got to watch the shuttle launch from the beach at Wilderness Lodge the night before the cruise. Now that was awesome!!!

Sounds like we have a mini MSLSC reunion going on. You, Joanne, Audrey and I will all be in Orlando...

Joe,

I think your right. I did some web surfing today. Haha! Boy did I get a deal on that cabin. I was the first person to book the Dream for our cruise. I had the run of the ship. I'm so happy with my choice.

Too bad you'll miss us at PC. I'll take one Dream cruise this year and one next year. LOL

Here's something fun to pass the time... build your own cruise ship. It's the company building the Dream.

Cigy, see if you can add a stroller walking track?!?!

We are trying to buy a bigger place. We have our eye on a place that is 2x the size of your current condo and has a wonderful view of water!!! I can pretend I'm on the ship sitting on our verandah, but I have to block the trees out. We saw an eagle flying over the lake today when we went to show the place to my parents.

Hot off the presses... Gentlemen start your engines!

A major milestone was achieved for the Disney Dream this week when testing began on the ship’s five engines at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany. Several months ago, the engines were installed on the ship, and this week the team at the yard started the engines for the first time!

Tara,

The pictures of the children are beautiful! Except that big kid next to Pluto! :rotfl:

We leave for Disney on Saturday, August 7th. Dear Lord, I can not tell you how much my family NEEDS this vacation!! Big E has been working his tail off, Mikayla loves WDW and I'm burned out from running back and forth to New York. We "live" under the same roof, but never see each other for more than a few hours a day... sometimes, I don't see Mikayla for days.

I hope you enjoy Wilderness Lodge as much as we do. It's a small resort by Disney standards, but very charming. Being so close to MK and being on the boat system is very convenient.

The rooms are nothing to write home about, however, the CM's in the Old Faithful Club will go out of their way to make your vacation special. Ask for a room with a MK view. You can stand on your balcony at night and watch the fireworks!

Mikayla LOVES the pool with the waterslide, the surry bikes, the guyser, the electric water parade and movies on the beach. We're also renting a boat again this year to cruise on Seven Seas Lagoon and we're going to Ft. Wilderness to Chip and Dale's Campfire.

Being the planner I am, every day is scoped out, every meal, every outfit and every pair of shoes! :rotfl:

We will be at universal the 12th-16th and then will be going to the Bonnett Creek for the 16th-18th. It is right near Epcot. We won't do the parks, but will definitely go to Downtown Disney...I can't believe we are leaving soon! I need to get motivated!
..hopefully there will be no tropical storms in our future, Michele!

And that must be so hard being seperate from your family so much, even though I know it would be hard i do dream about being in that situation somedays. Hope you have an amazing vacation, you already have me tired with all those plans and my feet aching with the thought of all those shoes.

Hello All!

We will be leaving for Orlando on the 14th so I have decided that I need to firm up the gut for Typhoon Lagoon:rotfl:

It's either that or hang out in 5 feet of water so that nobody can see my out of shape belly.

Any who, Michele have a great trip and enjoy the other Dream ship:thumbsup2

I hope that you have great cruising weather.

Hey All,

Disney, ready or not, here we come!

We're almost packed... 5 suitcases=185 pounds!

Eric is doing his man stuff, you know, shutting off the water to the house, mowing the lawn in the dark... why do they put everything off until the very last minute?

You know me, I'll be posting from Disney! He can't take my BlackBerry until we sail. Little does he know I got a new one that's international so I can post anywhere in the world!!! HAHA!!

I'll be at sea when we hit our one year countdown to the Disney Dream! I will raise a glass and toast all of you!

Safe travels to everyone who's heading to Florida! Wish we were all together again!

If Danielle heads for the eastern caribbean (like she might) keep your fingers crossed for us!!!

Peace Out!!!!

So here I am, holed up in one bedroom with the a/c on, bribing my kid with his favorite videos so he won't notice we're not going outside into the stifling humidity, daydreaming of being on Castaway Cay in exactly one year....

And becoming very jealous of my fellow cruisers down there in Disney or at sea!! Congrats anyway... ;)

We will not be making it to Disney this year, and in fact had no plans for any vacation but through a stroke of luck DH's company was invited to the resort in upper New Hampshire called The Balsams (http://www.thebalsams.com/) over the Fourth of July. My son and I got a free vacation while DH just had to work about 4 hours all weekend. They have invited us back up for Labor Day so we really lucked out! But just between you and I, I would have preffered something Disneyish. :)

Michele, congrats on the weight loss! Before our last cruise I lost 20 lbs, and then gained it right back over the last year. I'm starting another go at it for "realsies" now (permanent) and have figured out that if I just lose a pound a week I'll be down 50 by the time our next cruise comes along!

Hello Everyone,

Went to KSC today. Had a great time at NASA. Went to the top of the tower to see if I could see the Wonder, but couldn't:sad1:

Left KSC around 4:30 p.m. and was tempted to dry over to the port to see the Wonder off but I didn't want to get depressed.

Coming home on Saturday. Middle DD wants to hit the pool around 8:00 a.m.:scared1: Then maybe AK and Rain Forest for lunch.

Good Night!

Welcome home to all the August travelers! I hate coming home! SWA lost my luggage on the way back. Only me! It didn't show up until Sunday morning at 1am on our doorstep. Too bad they didn't do the laundry this time!!!

Here's my review of Disney/Wilderness Lodge:

We love the Lodge. This was our second time staying there club level. The food offerings were very good, and the staff was very helpful, the pool/resort was well kept but the mosquitos were vicious. We love going to Disney, but you always remember the bad versus the good. I was disappointed our room wasn't ready for hours and housekeeping didn't make up our room one day until 2:30 in the afternoon. Other than that, the resort was outstanding. The lines at the parks moved quickly, were short and some rides we walked right on. Transportation was excellent. Fantasy Land was sad. One entire side is closed off by a construction wall. After 3 years we finally got to ride Soaring!!! I had a panic attack on Mission Space, now I know why people die on that ride!!! The wait for Toy Story Mania was 140 minutes and all fast passes were gone for both days by 9am.

Now the bad... remember when WDW laid off 1500 employees two years ago... it shows. The parks were dirty. Main Street was trashed after the parades. We closed MK down 2 nights for the kiss goodnight and were shocked with the trash on the streets. Cast Members are over worked. I stood at a register waiting to make a purchase while I had to listen to the two of them ***** about how stressed they were, wanting to quit WDW and go to Universal. Really? I know working stinks, but you don't have to air your grips in front of guests. Only one CM called DD Princess all week.

We did not use the meal plan, we paid for our food since we had the 45% room discount. Kona, Whispering Canyon, Beergarten, Garden Grill were EXCELLENT. Food has gone up about 20% since last year, $30 for a counterservice lunch. Chef Mickey's should be shut down. The place was filthly, the food was below par and unappetizing for $140! At Sci-Fi we waited 50 minutes past our ressie to sit down. Our server was top-notch and made up for it. I did complain to the manager about the wait. She was shaking like a leaf when I got done with her. LOL.

Funny story... my girlfirend and I wanted Dooney purses. We saw them all over MK. Waited all week to buy them Thursday night at Downtown. Low and behold, we get there and they're sold out!!! We get back to the hotel at midnight and have the concierge track them down. Only MK had the ones we wanted in stock. Friday morning she and I sent the men and children to Typhoon Lagoon and we went to MK. We were out of park tickets, so we got a SHOPPING PASS. Ladies pay attention... it's a little secret Disney guards like gold. You put a hold on your KTTW card for a park ticket and get one hour to enter the park for free without being charged. We waited at the gates at rope drop for the crowds to thin out and ran like two fools down Main Street. We grabbed out bags in 21 minutes and $400 dollars later, we had our bags!!! Then we strolled around picking up Christmas gifts for the kids, Disney Dollars at Main Street, etc. When we were in City Hall this woman was in front of us getting a pass for her "service" dog. Some little fluff ball she called Pumpkin. She claimed she was deaf and the dog alerted her to loud noises... really? I don't think so... you're deaf and your dog alerts you to noise? After she carried on a conservation with us I knew she was full of crap. She didn't want to put her dog in the kennel and pay the fee. Before City Hall we stopped at the Firehouse to buy our dogs toys. Being the ***** I am, I stood behind her in line squeaking the toys, driving the "service" dog nuts. I even followed her back up Main Street just to be a *****. That stupid little dog was ready to jump out of it's fur!! HAHA!

Overall, Disney has lost some of it's magic. No bounceback offers in the room. But, a slew of them hit the web while we were there. We will go back next year, but I'm not sure we'll stay for a week. Don't get me wrong, we had a great time... just some bumps in the road.

Next... Carnival's Dream...

Oh Michele, I have to thank you....
I am overloaded on work and thought I would take a peek at the boards, and your entry cracked me up! Oh, how I can picture you tormenting that dog!! You are too much!

I have to tell you all how pleasantly suprised I was at Universal. The hard rock was a fun hotel (although the rooms were rather small IMO- especially for the price). The pool was awesome. The best part was that we got the front of the line passes since we stayed on site. They worked for most rides (except forbidden journey in harry potter). What a time saver...we hardly waited for anything- and when it is over 100 degrees, it is such a lifesaver!
The rides were great, and the parks were nicely kept. I really enjoyed that didn't have such a "busy" feel that disney has.

Harry Potter was absolutely amazing! I am not a big fan, but the attention to detail with putting this together was fabulous!

It was a fun time. It is not a place that you feel the need to constantly want to go back to like disney. They can't touch what disney does with their shows, characters etc....

If you want something different to do-- a few days at Universal could be fun. we were there for 4 days with a 3 day park pass. I wouldn't stay there for a week, unless I went to sea world..

It is hard getting back to the daily grind....thanks for the laugh, Michele

Let me start by saying this ship is HUGE!!! 2.5 times around deck is 1 mile. Our cruise was soldout, but you never felt crowded. The buffet lines moved nicely and you could usually find a chair anywhere on the ship. I've never seen so many lounge chairs! With the good comes the bad...when you have that many people on board there's bound to be issues...

We sailed Saturday, Aug 14th. Being past Carnival guests they upgraded us 4 times. Nice. You know how rare that is on DCL. Embarkation was a breeze. Unlike DCL the entire family gets in line. We arrived at 11 am and walked right on the ship. We went to Nassau, St. Thomas, St. Martin and a emergency stop at Puerto Rico for a medical reason, but could not get off the ship. Too bad. Nassau is still a pit. We got off for about two hours to shop with Mikayla. She hadn't been there in years. Even she hated it. She won a digital video camera in a raffle and used the day taking pictures of flowers. St. Thomas never changes. We went to Meghan's Bay, as usual. RCCL's Oasis followed us the entire week. Between the two ships we had 11,000 souls on board. Security around the ships was really tight. It was quit a sight to see the two largest vessels in the world side-by-side all week. On Sunday night we raced out of Nassau. It was fun, Oasis won that round, but we wasted her later in the week. Obviously the Captains had a good time. St. Marteen gets better every year. We were on the beach by 9am and spent a king's ransom in jewelry by noon. Yeah, I bought more blue diamonds. Only 3 carats this year, we are in a recession after all! Eric bought a watch.

The boat has 15 decks. Laid out very, very well. But, in my opinion it looked like Wayne Newton and Elton John threw up on board. Vegas glitz and glam. I like the old nautical style of DCL much better.

Rooms opened up at 1:30 on the dot. We had a king room with a balcony on deck 10 forward, one bath. The room and balcony were much larger than on DCL. No problems with the one bath. It was very spacious. The bed... OMG I wanted to steal everything from the sheets to the pillows! Eric wouldn't let me! LOL You have 3 room stewarts. The room was spotless. We swore they had a camera in the room. The minute you left it was cleaned.

We spent about an hour exploring. Then it was off to the first buffet. Hands down folks, Carnival has delicious food. We sailed with them 10 years ago, twice and were very disappointed with the food. I don't know who they hired, but WOW!!! Presentation, quanity, quality...just great, great food. I've never loved DCL food and now I feel like Topsiders is on par with a high school cafeteria. The dining room menus had a lot of variety. We ate there 5 nights, once at the buffet for dinner, breakfast at the buffet or at the restaurants and once at the Chef's Steakhouse. A private restaurant like Palo.

I think we counted 15 places on board that served food. Not to mention the bbq they did every day on deck. In the evenings some of the food places turned over to evening appetizers, sushi, a tappas bar, etc.

Hands down our meal at the Steakhouse was the best meal Eric and I have every had in our lives. From ther Versace china to the 7 course meal. It was a culinary presentation of art.

Mikayla enjoyed the kids clubs during the day, but said they were boring at night. Eric and I didn't realize how much we missed a casino on board. We had a BALL playing craps!

There was always something to do. 3 story high waterslides, pools, laser tag, arts and crafts, mini golf, 14 hot tubs, gym, etc. Eric and Mikayla loved running around while Mommy soaked up the sun and plenty of cocktails. At night on the jumbo screen they showed first run movies which was nice. They had ICEE machines for the kids and REAL popcorn.

Ok... now the bad.

2 pools? Are you freakin' kidding me? The deck plan showed 3, but one turned out to be inside the spa. We did not use the spa, very expensive in my opinion. The pools were salt water. Really? In this technical day and age, salty pools. Yuck!

The kids and teenagers were OUT OF CONTROL!!! Parents would dump their little darlings at the pool for hours and vanish. You know me, I was tossing them out that miss matched socks. Besides, one brat kept getting my hair wet! LOL. One night at 1am we were heading back to the room. We had to walk through the Midnight Orgy of teens laying all over each other in the halls. They were getting more action than married couples. I sent E and M on to the room and took care of business. I chased those kids out like alley cats in heat.

The entertainment couldn't hold a candle to DCL. We sat through one show and laughed our butts off. The big dance performers were a street rap group. Yeah, I pass these kinds of acts in Times Square passing the bucket. Sorry, not our style. The bands were just plain bad.

If the ship made port in Walmart I would be concerned we would tip over. How do I say it... some bought a new package of wife beaters for this cruise. The dinning staff really had a hard time the first night telling some of them how to dress. Of course Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers took offense.

Those are my major complaints. Would we said Carnival again, yes. Consider it was $1200 less than DCL, hell yeah!!!

Ok.. now the funny story of the cruise...

This 400lb woman waddles into the Lido restaurant (one of 5 buffets). She puts an entire pizza down on the table. Yup, she's alone and that pie is going down her pie hole. She walks up to the buffet and comes back with not one, but two trays of food. 2!!!! OMG, some on call the cops her pizza is gone. She finds this poor little server and starts yelling at the girl you took my pizza, you took my pizza. Do you know how long it took me to get it? The poor server apologized. Miss Piggy insisted the girl go get her another one after spewing a slew of curse words at her. I went right after the server and followed her to the pizza restaurant. I told her I thought she handled two ton tilly very professionally. Then I went to the dining room captain and commended the server. When I walked back past Miss Piggy I stopped at her table and dumped a shaker of salt on her pizza. Then started singing Magaretville and walked away. She sat there in shock! The look on her face was priceless. She knew she was owned. I saw her later in the day at the pool in a bikini... oh god! I didn't know spandex could stretch like that. Eric just sat there and laughed his *** off!

Hey Michele,

Those were great trip reports:thumbsup2 I got my laughs for the day:)

Today was kind of sad:sad1: I took my daughter to College. We went to her room and it was so small that I think that her Cabin on the Dream will feel like a palace:rotfl:

She has a great roomate from the D.C. area and they both love Tinkerbell:lovestruc

Joe, you should be looking at this as not a sad day, but a day to celebrate that you and your daughter made it thru high school and now onto bigger things in life. Congrats!!! Still trying to figure out how I can stow away in your cabin next summer :rotfl2:

Michele,

I couldn't stop laughing from your tormenting the dog to the pizza lady. You are one of a kind lady and I'm glad I know you and I haven't pissed you off :rotfl2:

Sounds like it was a fun time.

If the Fantasy goes out of NY, you bet we will be on it with you!

Shopping Pass - that one is now stored away in my memory!!

I promised Mikayla we'll go next year to Universal... oh, wait... I also promised we would go to Sea World... oh, wait... I also promised we would go back to Disney...oh, wait... I also promised we would go on back to back cruises.

Oh crap, I need to keep my mouth shut or rob a bank!!! I better rob the bank...:rotfl2:

Let me know if you need accomplices!! :rotfl2:

How to get a free Disney cruise...

Disney Magic cruise ship rescues stranded boaters 18 given medical attention, staterooms

WINTER PARK, Fla. - The Disney Magic cruise ship rescued more than a dozen people who were stranded at sea.

The ship, which is normally based in Port Canaveral, is spending the summer in Europe.

Early Friday morning, the ship overheard radio traffic of two other vessels searching for a boat in distress, the cruise line said.

Disney said the Magic then decided to join in the search and located the boat almost immediately. Disney said the boat in distress had lost power.

A Disney Cruise Line representative said the ship used one of its rescue boats to get to the 18 stranded boaters.

The 16 men and two women were taken on board the Magic and received medical attention, Disney said. They were then given staterooms, and later disembarked in Barcelona.

So I will be returning the first one and waiting for UPS:)

Hey Peeps!

Nothin' happening here. Eric and I are working, so what else is new?

I can not wait for school to start on Tuesday. I'm thinking about putting Mikayla at the bus stop Monday night with her pillow and blanket.

Now that it's over, the summer flew by. Alas, my tan will start to fade.

Just think, we have our cruise to look forward to in a few short months.

Busy day here...

School starts TOMORROW!!! Do you think party hats and confetti are too much at the bus stop?

Just hung up with the overzealous soccer coach. Practice two nights a week. Games once a week. Now I have to dig out the soccer stuff!

3rd grade open house on Wednesday, to meet the teacher.

I put money in the lunch account.

Time to hit the ground running... so much for easing back into the routine.

School started today here....I am so sick of filling out medical forms, emergency contact information...with the computer age upon us, there has to be an easier way! Just back from hell...I mean Walmart, to get some school supplies. It was like a bomb hit it- hardly anything left and countless other angry moms with their kids searching frantically for the right color one subject notebook......:scared1:
